A new thread for us all

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SachaF · 03/07/2007 10:33

Thanks for the Tiso link BP, have now purchased a rain cover for old rucksack rather than buying a new one - Now I can see how much I'll use it and whether it's worth getting a new fangled one (if it ain't broke....)
Also purchased a couple of fleeces whilst I was there , BOGOF deal

accessorizewithbabysick · 03/07/2007 21:58

Think we really ought to have purchased a raincover for the ergo but dp said surely that won't be necessary dear? Yeah, right!
everyone's getting into it now, it's just like cloth nappies all over again

babypowder · 03/07/2007 22:18

AQ!

castlesintheair · 04/07/2007 11:13

Thanks for sympathy everyone. Still feeling quite odd. Meant to be taking car to wimbledon today (not the tennis!) to get rear window replaced and keep having to lie down to prevent fainting so don't think I'll be going!

Thanks for asking Sacha. No I haven't found a childminder but am actively on the case

All this talk of backpacks, is this what everyone gets up to up norf?! Down sarf, it's all poncey 3 wheelers & travel systems, preferably with the nanny pushing!! Or maybe that's just where I live

GlassSlipper · 04/07/2007 12:52

I decided to get a Hippychick hipseat instead of a sling or backpack. It should come tomorrow so I'm quite excited

castlesintheair · 04/07/2007 12:58

I had one of those for a bit GS. There are quite good but you have to hold onto your LO until they can hold onto you so you don't get 2 free arms IYSWIM. Saves your hip/back though.

GlassSlipper · 04/07/2007 13:41

I dont mind about holding on tbh. I just want my back & neck to stop aching

SachaF · 04/07/2007 14:57

Can't get much further 'sarf' than me unless you go westwards as well!
Have the cool 3 wheeler, the hippy ring sling and the hikey back pack - all have different uses - The 3 wheeler is difficult to get over kissing gates and stiles and yes, we have tried!
Oh to have a nanny! Well, only as I'm trying to get some accounts done before I get fined for being late with them! Internet went down whilst ds was asleep so couldn't get the info I wanted and now he is awake.....guess I should really be getting the stuff I need off the internet rather than chatting to you lot whilst he is placid!

spina · 04/07/2007 15:14

hello. sorry i will read thread. this building site business does distract a bit.

go back to work on 16th. hope i manage to find some time to visit my friends on MN on my "days off".

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 04/07/2007 16:37

Good luck with work Spina...

Olihan · 04/07/2007 16:40

Yikes, Castles, how awful. Have you got any way of being able to catch up on sleep?

Gs, where did you buy your hipseat from? babycurls is the cheapest place I can find but I've never used them before so not sure whether to use someone I 'know' iyswim.

So, sleeping........ he's doing okay. He'll now nap for a good hour to 2 hours in the day and is stretching out the nights to a regular 3 hours. Last night he went to bed at 6:30 and didn't wake until 11pm . I never thought I'd see the day when I thought that was good! He's also just waking to feed and going straight back to sleep most of the time, instead of fussing for ages. AND, he is almost falling asleep by himself, in his cot. I don't have to cuddle him until he's completely asleep any more but I can't quite just put him in his cot and leave, like I could with ds1 and dd. Honestly, I can't believe how many bad habits i've fallen into with ds2's sleeping. You'd think I'd know better with my 3rd, wouldn't you .

Olihan · 04/07/2007 16:43

Brain-like-a-sieve syndrome at its best today, forgot to say, good luck with work, Spina.

Who else is back/due back imminently?

We're off the the hospital tomorrow for ds1 to have his cast changed. PILs are on holiday (typically) so I'm going to inflict all 3 dcs on the Fracture clinic waiting room. I'm hoping it will mean they see us quickly, just to get rid of us .

SachaF · 04/07/2007 16:58

Depends on how you define work......Paid contractual work November, however also run my own company, and have been very slack keeping up with that in last few months but am now making concerted effort - 2 months ago I could get more done!! I blame dh for making us go away every other weekend

SachaF · 04/07/2007 17:02

And you can tell by the number of postings that I should be working and am procrastinating!

GlassSlipper · 04/07/2007 17:40

olihan - I saw babycurls but I've never used them before so got it on ebay for £24 plus £6 P+P. The seller is here

GlassSlipper · 04/07/2007 17:41

btw, it was brand new from a shop, rather than 2nd hand. Cheapest I could find.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 04/07/2007 18:41

la la la I'm going to be an aunty! My sister is pg! due 28th Feb

GlassSlipper · 04/07/2007 19:33

Congrats margo. Lovely news!

accessorizewithbabysick · 04/07/2007 19:52

That'll be great for cousins growing up together. I wish my 2 could meet their cousin, but she's in Australia and we can never afford a trip!
Did I say welcome back Oli?? It's always good to have you around
Am due back at work August 6th. DS2 will be 8 months that day. Only 2 days a week tho, and I've negotiated to do a few hours from home. May return for a 3rd day later in the year (I was working 3 days when I went on maternity leave).

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 04/07/2007 19:57

Yes I am glad they will have cousins near in age too - I love being with my cousins (I am the eldest of thirteen cousins)

I just dug out all of the things I hadn't used so she has gone home with some anti nausea spray, a wall chart and a pg diary. I've held off giving her the nipple cream and arnica tablets just yet.

weirdbird · 04/07/2007 20:26

Hi all,

Have just read about 2 weeks worth of posts and all I can remember is that I hope you DS is sleeping a bit now Magnolia

Castles - How scary! Is there anyone you could have to stay or go and stay with to get a bit of a break?

Jabber- When do you want us???

Just havnt been able to face trying to catch up on MN, Hannah stopped sleeping and has only just started again and I have been beyond exhausted to the point that on Monday my DH just couldn't wake me up I woke up finally when he got back from the school run but I just felt like I had flu so he stayed at home with me.

Have had a bit more sleep the last 2 days and am starting to feel a bit more like myself but I hope she doesn't do that again in a hurry!

Magnolia have you tried Medised? Though I suppose if you have tried a sedative and that hasnt worked its not likely too. How did leaving him with your DH work out?

Hope all those moving are settled in ok!

Have missed you guys! Anyone else want to join me and Calm for a meet up? in Richmond area?

I have just spent the last 4 hours dealing with e-bay account theft. Why is it that the victim has to do all the running??? Am truly .

Right. I shall now read the thread. Apologies for just coming in and sounding off!

Calmriver · 04/07/2007 21:23

Oh my goodness....

Still not caught up on posts in ages...remember me all of you!???

I have had a shocker of a day. Just got my car last Monday and I have a massive dent on both doors as I tried to get through between a van and a wall and ended up a bit 'tight' for space! What was I thinking??? I feel so crap!...then DH comes home and says....THATS HUGE HONEY!!!!

babypowder · 04/07/2007 22:31

Calmriver, how marvellous to see you again!

DH's are shocking in these situations. I remember misfuelling our brand new diesel car, then driving (get this) 40 miles, wondering why it was making such an awful noise. DH's reaction was 'well, that's £10k down the drain, then' Like we don't beat ourselves up enough about these things.

So, let me say it on his behalf. It's only a lump of metal, it doesn't matter about the dents as long as you can close the door, you were very brave trying to get into that space, I'm so glad you're all right. If you want to fix it, the insurance will put it all back to normal. If you don't then that's OK too. Do you want a large glass of wine and a block of G&B?

WB, nice to see you back as well.

Good luck Spina!

jabberwocky · 05/07/2007 03:32

Goodness, lots of chatting going on

Let's see

calm - it's just a car and these things happen. Your dh will get over it and all will be fine. Reminds me of the time I forgot my parents had parked behind and to the right of me in my own driveway and bashed in their doo

wb - come anytime The weather is still quite nice for the most part. Lots of days in the low 90's and had a nice breeze for much of the day.

spina - good luck with work. I find even 2 - 3 days a week a challenge but then sometimes it is nice just getting out of the house.

congrats on the coming family addition! My nephew and his wife are due in October and I'm so excited that the dc's will have a cousing close to their age. Although still a bit that I will be a great-aunt.

bp - very on your behalf about your ebay account. I'm glad you did get it all sorted though.

olihan - our sleeping is up and down here, too. Naps are quite good for the most part and nights were at least 3 hours until last night. He was up at least every 2 hours. I have been exhausted all day and we had a huge day planned with friends over to watch the 4th of July parade and have a cook-out. I managed to mess up getting back in touch with them about the fireworks tonight am hoping she chocks it up to a sleep-deprived goofball.

What else? Oh, just ordered some cloth nappies! You all have finally convinced me to try and my success with g diapers has enboldened me.

Is anyone else's dc crawling yet? Ds2 started last week - still perfecting his technique but he is definitely mobile now.

I have mixed feelings about this...
