Sorry I haven't been here for a while. Glad everything seems well.

I use naturebabycare nappies at night. DS never got on very well with washables at night. I always wash my nappies separate because of all the poo on them! Do you wet pail yours?

Cori - how very dare you!!! Am still up for meeting up, but a weekday would be better for us. Name the day!

Have the date for my dating scan: 20 July. Am quite looking forward to it as I am much more happy about the idea now. I seem to be expanding at a rate of knots. Up until about two days ago, I was exactly the same shape and size. But today... My hips seem to be double the size and my tummy is definitely getting rounder. I suppose the poor muscles have hardly had time to recover from last time. Am feeling more fat than pregnant at the moment though. It's horrible when people don't know, isn't it. They're probably thinking "she's letting herself go!"

Out to dinner with DH tonight. That probably won't help matters! Looking forward to it though.

i'm ill again

i can't believe it i keep getting ill lately, argh

got loads of things to do today but luckily one of the big things has been cancelled with people being ill so looks like i'm not the only one.

MRSHARRYPOTTER sorry for the big shout but the nappies are here if you want them.

personally i couldn't wash my nappies with clothes even if it is better for the nappies i just don't like the thought of my clothes being in there with them. i dry pail (have a nappy net and wash the bucket out and add a couple of drops of tea tree oil so the smell isn't bad). the problem at the moment is finding places to hang everything, rubbish rubbish weather.

so my big question is will we have a summer this year? i don't mind if i have to wait a couple more weeks but i can't go without a summer again (3 years ago was in hospital with dd1 having her 1st heart op, 2 years ago her second heart op and last year dd2 came 11 weeks early, i need a summer )

mabel1973 · 07/07/2007 14:01

H all

am back from my hols. t was lovely, although the weather was hit and miss, we did manage to get on the beach a few times which both ds's really enjoyed, DS1 is now at an age where you pop him on a beach wth a bucket and spade and he's happy for hours. We did a bike ride and DH got some surfng in. On thursday we went to Fifteen at Watergate bay again, it was fantastc. DS2 learnt how to clmb the stairs whilst on hols, which was a bit of a shock, we thought he was playng n the corner, then my dad came down and sad dd we know that he was halfway up the stairs

mabel1973 · 07/07/2007 14:03

p.s. my 'i' s stcking....you may have notced!!!!!!

KK - get well soon

Coriander73 · 08/07/2007 09:06

lol bristols....I love Catherine Tate... Will need to check the diary & get back to you..would be great to meet

mabel, SOoooooooo envious you were on Watergate bay..again! I rememeber having this conversation last year with you about how much we miss surfing in that part of the world! We used to go to fifteen before it was fifteen for yummy big boy burgers & chips before hitting the waves again....ahhh those were the days!!! We are actually on our way home from Devon today. We've been staying with my Aunt 25 mins from Sidmouth. Luckily we've had three perfect days of what can only be described as...SUNSHINE!!!!!!! Echo what you say about DS1...DD happy to run around with no clothes on & amuse herself with a bucket & spade. Took Jack's nappy off & let him feel the sand which he didn't like at first but then got into the swing of it & decided to eat the sand.....!! They both looked so happy....made me feel good & much happier altogether too..

A confession to make....J was sick in his travel cot last night & despite having the monitor on neither DH or myself heard him . Naturally I was very upset this moring when DH brought him into our room & his grobag & teddy were covered. My Aunt said she'd heard him cry a little bit but then all went quiet. We just didn't hear a thing....I do feel rather distressed about it as I can't help but think what if he'd choaked etc. The monitor is working (checked that) but I just can't believe neither of us heard.. DH tried to be funny & say "well, at least we've never left him in a supermarket trolley" but I do feel awful...poor little man...

hello,
Have had a busy few weeks here. I 'm trying to book us a holiday but DH is so unenthusiastic and doesn't seem to like any of my suggestions! First I said Lake District then Northumberland, then Jersey then west coast of Ireland. Next year I want to save up and go to the Austrian mountains but just want something cheapish and easy as its all a bit last minute. Has anyone been to Northumberland or Jersey?

Also, how much milk should we be giving LO's now? DS has a bottle about 10:30 then one about 2:30 then one at bedtime and usually one about 4:30am. All 7ozs. Is this too much?

Hope everyone is well
Will check back properly later but must go and save dinner from burning now

fairysnuff · 08/07/2007 22:54

O wow oh wow
My FIL is taking us on holiday!!!!
He is booking tommorrow and we will be headed off to Greece, to a villa, at the end of August!
Sooo excited!
But also nervous. I love them but she drives me a little insane
I have planned with DH, already, that we will be taking a day to ourselves and visiting the local town for lunch and and evening meal, leaving DD with them. So, win win. I get to get away from MIL for a bit and they get sole custody of DD for an afternoon and evening, they will be over the moon.
SIL and BIL will not leave them alone with their DD at all!
Actually heard a story about her giving MIL a lecture cos she left their DD in her pram oustide the front door whilst she dashed off to get her gloves! She was only gone for a matter of a minute, tops! Apparently this was not looking after her properly. SIL has, apparently never trusted MIL since! MIL might drive me mad, but I would never have the gaul(SP?) to speak to her out of turn like that!

Anyway! Looking forward to the holiday loads now that it is booked!! Happier to go with them as it feels easier to have safety in numbers and to have a villa to ourselves

mabel1973 · 09/07/2007 13:16

Fairy - wow lucky you....although have to say I couldn't cope wth my n-laws on hols, at least you get a free babysitter and will get some time to yourselves.
sounds like you SIL s a lttle over protectve! always do that wth my two. Get them strapped n to the buggy on the front door step, then go back nside and sort myself out, it's the only way can organse thngs! it would never occur to me that wasn't carng for them properly.

Myrtle - went to Jersey wth DS1 when he was 5 months old, hadn't been before, thought t was a lovely place, very french n many ways, but then very englsh too. We did fnd it qute expensve though whle we were over there, for food etc.

On the milk thing, don't thnk you can gve too much mlk, as long as he s havng plenty of variety to eat as well. DS2 now has 1 BF n the mornng, then 5oz at 2.30pm and another 5oz at about 6.30pm before bed, that's it. He dropped the feeds quite naturally hmself and think he wll drop the 2.30pm one soon, as he's not really that bothered.

Well DS1 threw up ths mornng, not sure what's up with him, he says his tummy s ok, but he's gone back to bed now. Just when i thought i'd got on top of my holday washing as well!
Made a bit of a blunder last night....we are tryng to get DS1's dummy off him for good,(he is 2.5 yo, so really should give it up now) so promsed him that i would buy hm an Iggle Piggle toy if he could go to bed wth out it all this week. Well went on line to order iggle piggle.....apparantly they don't come out for another 3 weeks...OOOPS! So last nght DH and I sat making iggle pggle, opsy daisy, ninky nonk and macca pacca stickers, by printng images off the net on to photo paper and stickng double sided sticky tape to the back of them, t was lke Blue peter!!!! So he gets a sticker for every nght he doesn't have hs 'doo doo' until the bg day..28th july, when Iggle pggle arrves...lets hope there isn't a postal strike!!
The thngs us parents have to do!

compo · 09/07/2007 13:22

Morning everyone.
Glad all those holidaying had a good time.
Fairy - that sounds like a lovely holiday.
Myrtle - we got a self catering cottage in the Lakes last summer and it was lovely. Lodas for kids to do.
Cori - don't beat yourself up about the being sick in the cot thing. We don't use a monitor at all and I often get dd up in the morning and she has a dirty nappy and a sore bottom and I feel really bad but don't know what the solution to that is.
Re. the milk question - dd has 5oz first thing (if she has more she doesn't want her weetabix) and then 7oz at 2pm ish and another 7oz beofre bed. However at nursery she often doesn't finish her mid pm bottle and still sleeps fine at night so I don't worry.

Myrtle1 · 09/07/2007 13:47

Thanks for info on the milk. It sounds about the same as DS then. Is it around this age that they drop another milk feed? DS loves his food and he is a lovely little chunky chap. Its just funny cos both DH and I are slight and skinny.

Still looking into holidays....

Mabel have fun making the iggle piggle stickers. I've still not seen In the Night Garden. I must watch today.

Coriander73 · 09/07/2007 18:10

Just had manic 30 mins with the DC...really want to tear my hair out..arggghhhhhhhh...anyway did someone mention holiday's?!! Haven't been to the Lakes or Jersey but both sound nice..esp. the lakes which is a burning desire of mine We've been trying to book something for over a week. We tried to go back to the same place in Portugal that we took DD too but it's full, or rather we have too many children in one room now! I did try & book it in Jan but DH was being Mr Cautious with regards my work etc so we didn't & now we can't go...but having just been down in Sidmouth & the beautiful Jurassic Coast it's given me a taster & I want more!!

mabel, have fun with Iggle Piggly & co! DD loves it more each day. We did some colouring in today with pictures downloaded fro the CBeebies website. BTW, I need ideas to entertain the troops...there is only so much playdough, sticking, muffins, swings, reading that we can do. Does anybody have any cool crafty ideas I can do with DD as even I'm getting bored of the same activities.. ...

Bugger!
It all fell flat on it's face!
The flights had gone up so much we have had to call a halt.
Now I am back trawling the net!

Really fancy france myself, but FIL wants to go further and for hotter weather.
But also wants to fly from Aberdeen now, so choice is limited.
They say NOt spain cos they have been too many times, but I haven't been and, as long as we are not doing a package deal, I am sure it woud be a great destination.
Barcelona for me!!

Ah well, must get back to my trawling!

Coriander73 · 10/07/2007 08:24

Did any of you watch the Power of life programme last night on BBC1? I found it rather moving & cried at certain points esp with the section / cord wrapped round neck baby that was obviously not breathing when born. That is what happened to J......it really is a miracle life isn't it?....

Fairysnuff, Barcelona is great...

The most terrifying thng has just happened.

MY mil had ds2 ths mornng while i got some jobs done, and she came back to drop him off and stayed about 10 mins. DS1 was tired from pre-school and wanted to go to bed, so went upstars, took DS2 upstars to change his nappy, and then DS1 realsed that Nana had gone and went downstairs shoutng Nana... I shouted hm, but then it went quiet,I raced downstars, DS2 stll wth poo stuck to hs bum, DS1 wasn't in the house or the garden, ran round the sde of the house to see f he was round the front, or on the green, which is in the middle of our crescent...he wasn't there, I raced down to the main road and half way up the main road (whch leads up to one of the busiest roads n ths area) he was stood crying wth a girl who'd stopped, whslt she was walkng her dog. I have got him home and given him a good talkng to. But I feel physically sick, i rang DH and couldn't stop myself from crying down the phone. All you can thnk of what might have happened and what should have done.
I am now gong to ring the guy who fixed our fence and get a better chld proof gate put up.

tassis · 10/07/2007 14:14

mabel, are you OK? that sounds terrifying.

you cuddle your 2 boys and give them kisses from us all, so glad your wee man's safe.

tassis · 10/07/2007 14:25

Cori, not exactly sure how old your LOs is...guessing 3ish!

Other suggestions include:
water play - ds loves to stand on a chair at the sink and wash up. he has a toy teaset and likes to pour tea. Give him a teabag and he's in heaven! or let him wash his toy animals.

bubbles - those wee electric ones that you dip in a pot they can do themselves from about 2

baking/painting/playdough/park/pool/library/sandpit/paddling pool

cut an empty tissue box in half across the short side and you can make "houses" for animals or "garages" for trains.

draw a sheep, get them to stick cotton wool on for its coat, stick cut up green tissue paper along the bottom for grass

paper plate - stick orange tissue paper round the edge for a mane and draw a lion face on (you could make it into a mask)

fold paper plate in half, stick craft feathers and a beak on and make a bird

use wooden spoons or old socks to make puppets

paint the patio with water, or draw on it with chalk, or wash the bikes and trikes and scooters with warm water and sponges

paint with cars - put toy cars in paint and make patterns with their tyres

get wallpaper and put LOs in wellies, step in the paint and do footprints on the wallpaper

make gloop - cornflour and water

let them play with shaving foam or shredding paper

make a den with chairs and a rug/table cloth over top - have a picnic in it or read stories or whatever

have baths in the middle of the day (we love bath crayons though some hate them!)

tassis · 10/07/2007 14:25

(not that I do many of these very often!)

compo · 10/07/2007 15:47

Mabel Hope you are okay xxx

Coriander73 · 10/07/2007 18:08

Mabel, lots of love & give your soon a big hug! You must have been scared witless- Nice to know however that there are decent people still around & he was safe...

Thanks for the tips tassis! Booked DD into a pre-school playgroup today starting Sep. It's much cheaper than the nursery she currently attends & has a better preschool section than the nursery so all in all I hope we'll all be better off. Did feel a little choked it must be said...just the change etc..she's been at the same place since 5 months old

mabel1973 · 10/07/2007 19:50

am ok thanks - just terrifyng

teafortwoandtwofortea · 10/07/2007 20:18

! poor you, jus thank God for the girl with the dog. Please don't beat yourself up, I've never had DS1 runs down the road but did find him in the front garden once after Id been upstairs changing DS2 so it's not just you. TBH you've reminded me how important it is that we get our front gate back on which has been off for 10 months now waiting to be re-painted - slapped wrists for me and DH!

Cori - the ELC have a little pack of 'ideas' cards for sale at the moment with a section for LO's and a section for older children - I was thinking about getting them as they'll last and might be a sanity save during long school holidays

Coriander73 · 11/07/2007 19:24

mabel, how are you today? x

OP posts:
mabel1973 · 11/07/2007 21:33

Just a qucky - am ok thanks cori, still shook up, but we have a man coming to do the gate now.. DS1 s well aware that what he did was wrong, and s very sheepsh when it is mentioned to him.

bristols · 11/07/2007 22:59

Hi all, sorry it's been so long. Mabel - what a nightmare! Glad things turned out well.

Tassis - great list of ideas. Must write them down...

Fairy - sorry to hear about holiday. Hopefully something even better will come along soon.

DS went for his first 'taster' session at nursery today. He loved it. We have to go again tomorrow, when I'll leave him for half an hour or so. Then, next Wednesday, I leave him for an hour and he starts properly on Thursday. I'm going to be a wreck! Have booked a hair appointment to keep me occupied. Not sure whether that was a good idea or not!

Am still feeling utterly exhausted. Hope to be getting over that soon. Am 10+4 today so maybe after the first twelve weeks. We'll see. Not sure if I mentioned it before, but scan is a week on Friday, 20th. Looking forward to it now. Tummy is expanding quite a bit. Those of you with more than one, did you find you got bigger more quickly the second time around?

Must go to bed. Really tired!

Coriander73 · 12/07/2007 08:39

glad to hear you're feeling ok mabel...

bristols, yep, definitely bigger quicker second time around! DS will be fine at nursery but I know that the first time you leave him is daunting! Are you going back to work? Are you going to find out the sex?! Names??!

We've booked a holiday..HURRAH!! Going back to Portugal (very close to the Spanish boarder) to the same place (but not same hotel) that we took DD too when she'd just turned one. The place we're going to looks nice, just a few individual villa bungalow style apartments with a couple of swimming pools & a playground for the children. The beach is a 5 min ferry ride from the hotel Can't wait...very excited to have guaranteed sun (fingers crossed) & at least 30c! DD very cute, rang her Grandma yday to say we were going on a hairyplane (!) to Portugal..

Is it me or is our thread very quiet at the moment?! Is it because it's the holidays etc?
