Still hoping to go 4 days, so I can spend an extra day with DS, but my Director is so hard to read, I don't know if she'll say yes. Am biding my time....

homemama · 27/06/2007 19:48

Hi everyone, hope you are all well. Sorry I'm so bad at posting, maybe when I go back to work it will be easier.

Mabel, have you tried strips of chicken breast? DD loves them. They're chunky and easy to hold and she just munches away at them. Also, I've discovered Peter Rabbit garden veg sauces. They're made especially for little ones and have no added sugar or salt. They look like pasta sauce but are actually pureed veg with tomatoes so very good for them. Add a spoonful to pasta, cooked chicken or boiled rice, very tasty and both DS and DD love it. Great for making stew too. It's so hard. I constantly think I'm not offering enough variety. Good luck.

Oh and congratulations on your pregnancy, Bristols. Having 2 under 2 is hard but you'll be surprised how quickly you get over the really hard bit IYKWIM.

HenriettaHippo · 28/06/2007 12:30

just a quickie on the finger food question - I gave DSs liver on Tuesday - DS2 ate it with his fingers - really easy to chew and really full of iron and lots of lovely nutrients. We had it with mash and a sauce DH made with onions, sugar and red wine (cooked so the alcohol wore off!!) and peas. I think peas are hilarious, Fraser spends hours picking them up really carefully, then sticking his tongue out to catch each one before carefully gumming it and swallowing. He does seem to be digesting them even, as I haven't seen any whole peas the other end (unlike sultanas..!!!).

zmandaz · 28/06/2007 19:20

I have had the most unbelievably stressful few days. My ex-husband went to court to have his parental responsibilties removed. They told him that the only way that would happen is if the child was at risk...so he's made three direct threats to harm me and to snatch DD. I think in his own warped way he's trying to force the issue but I've been really scared as the threats have been very serious. The Police and my solicitors are involved and we're hoping that with the evidence we have he should be arrested tonight or tomorrow. We are hopeful that we have enough evidence to convict him so he will have a restraining order put on him but if not I will have to get an injunction (which would cost me £1000!)So, all in all it's been a really stressful and scary situation and I've no idea if this will be the end of it but DD and I go on holiday on Monday so at least we'll be out of his way for a week and hopefully things will have calmed down when we get back.

compo · 29/06/2007 09:42

So sorry to hear about that
Isn't it awful and shocking just how crap some people can be?
At least you've got the police on your side and are being well looked after, still it must be very scary for you. Here have a virtual {{{{{{{hug}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Hope everyone is doing okay this week. DD managed to roll off the bed last night when dh was putting her to bd so today is sporting a lovely bruise on her head.

It's tipping it down here and is very windy so we're all going a bit stir crazy staying in but I just can't face battling the wind as well as the rain!
Might have to get the dreaded play dough out

Coriander73 · 29/06/2007 09:53

Hugs zmandaz...

compo, it's psycho weather here...just had a huge downpour & now it's brilliant sunshine & rather warm. We've had the heating on the past two nights & put vests on the DC again...no wonder they've both got colds. Despite the prevailing wind I need to get out (going mad!!!) so we're off to Morissons to buy some olive oil...it's a whole pound cheaper than Sainsbury's...well, every penny counts now..

JingleBelle · 29/06/2007 12:57

Zmandaz, so sorry to hear about the problems you're having with your ex. How horrible, but hope you are able to relax on holiday and take a break from it all.

Weather is pretty horrible here too, but hey, it is Wimbledon fortnight, so we can't expect sunshine .

So, I keep seeing pregnant women around at work and have to admit that it makes me broody - I guess it's because after the first 16 weeks had passed, I had a really good pregnancy (v. lucky I know), but I also know I am very content just having DS at the moment - he is waking at 6.15am every day (latest) and lately been disturbing during night, I think from discomfort, so from a sleep point of view, don't think I could cope with another just yet!

Took delivery of piano from my Mum (brother had it until he emigrated to Australia) yesterday and is now DS' favourite toy, which is lovely - well until he can actually reach it without help, at which point, am not sure how much his "Creativity" will cause a headache
Wishing you all a pleasant weekend, as I don't know if I'll get on regulary.

bristols · 29/06/2007 19:01

Zmandaz, so sorry to hear of what you're going through. I hope things start to look up soon.

Awful weather here again today. Can't believe it's the end of June!

DS still having lots of trouble with his teeth. It's very difficult to watch. He chews on things and then shudders and starts to cry because it hurts so much. Poor thing.

Wonder what sort of weather the weekend will bring? I hope we get out at some point!

fairysnuff · 29/06/2007 23:40

Goodness zmandaz, I had no idea you were going through all that!
Poor you
But I guess if it does mean that he can't bother you or your DC anymore, thats good?
Terrible and shocking way to go about it though!

DD is walking now!
Well, she is pushing her walker thing in front of her without bashing her nose on it as she falls!
She can only go in straight lines though and just hits into things! If I catch her in time, I can nudge the front round so that she can keep going.
The grin on her face when she is walking though is just fabulous!!

Your poor DS bristols, DD hasn't had painful ones yet. Dreading the day though

zmandaz · 30/06/2007 19:24

Thanks for the messages. Unfortunately ex-h is still at large but there is now a warrant out for his arrest so I'm hoping that they'll find him quickly as he's made some more, very serious threats. I've honestly never been so scared in my life. I'm still going away on Monday and am hoping they will have charged him by then so there'll be a restraining order in place. I just can't believe this is happening. Hope everyone else is well and I'll catch up when I get back from my holiday.

teafortwoandtwofortea · 30/06/2007 22:30

Hi everyone, sorry not to have been around for a bit but have been trying to keep up with you all - not easy!

mandaz - I'm so sorry to hear what he's doing now. I hope he's caught soon. I remember this time last year and you were just getting to grips with single life and the prospect of being a mum - you're so strong, don't know how you do it! much sympathy and hugs coming your way...x.

Cori - I'm stuck on the finget food front tooa bit, thanks for posing the question, it's given me some ideas

Will be back, hope you all keep well

Myrtle1 · 02/07/2007 09:06

Hello,
I've not been on for a while, have been addicted to Facebook as I keep finding old school friends on there
ZMandaz, sorry you're having such a tough time. I hope you have a brilliant holiday.
All the finger food tips are really useful. DS has just been having toast and veg sticks as finger food but I think I will try the chicken and homemade pizza ideas. We're off shopping in a bit and my new issue of BBC Good Food has just arrived too so maybe that will give me inspiration.
Mabel, DS has been in a lot of pain with teeth as well. All last week, he was up twice in the night and just busrting into tears for no reason during the day
Bck to his smiley best now though. Oh and he's started transporting his toys in his mouth while he crawls about, its soo cute.

HenriettaHippo · 02/07/2007 14:18

Zmandaz, you're away now, so I hope you manage to have a relaxing time. I hope he doesn't know where you've gone? Hugs for you.

Jingle, we have a piano too (funnily enough, also from DH's brother when he moved to Oz), and DS1 loves it. It isn't tuneful at all though...

We had a lovely weekend, it was my grandad's 90th birthday so we were all at my parents for a party weekend. BBQ in the pouring rain, but lots of fun. We bought DS1 a little brolly so he stood outside with my dad who was cooking under a golfing umbrella.

Weather here is really psycho too. One minute it's bright sunshine, the next it's tipping down. Have to take clothes out for all eventualities...

When you some of you meeting at Bluewater? is it this week? have fun, and let us know how you get on!!!

kreamkrackers · 03/07/2007 07:25

hi everyone

sorry not been on for a while but have been lingering though. we've all been ill, dd2 has been sick all over me 3 times last thursday, it was horrible, she managed to get it all over my sandals and between my toes, yuck! then dd1 got ill and we thought we were going to be in hospital with her but we're alright. then the two of them have made a full recovery and i'm ill and dp can't get a day off work.

mrsharrypotter - the nappies are finally due to arrive on friday as she's finally got around to sending them (abit annoyed about it but i will have to rate her well so that i get a good rating back). do you still want to buy some nappies? (have been working out that there's too many for me.) if so there's 7 of them in pale green for £28.45 which includes the postage. my email address is [email protected] if you are interested if not i'll probably sell them on mn anyways as they should go quickly.

zmandz - i am by your ex h (he doesn't deserve the d in front of it ) i hope you have a lovely holiday you obviously deserve it

fairy - congratulations to your dd. it's really good that's she can walk even with a toy in front of her. my dd2 has stopped falling backwards now, she stands up against things still but just cries when her legs get tired for me to help sit her down again.

hope everyone has a good week.

fairysnuff · 03/07/2007 12:24

What kind of nappies are those Kreamkrackers?

kreamkrackers · 03/07/2007 12:42

they're brand new swaddlebee pocket nappies (the ones that don't need a wrap). i got them really cheap from ebay and it feels like i've been waiting forever for them.

fairysnuff · 03/07/2007 14:08

hmm, had a look for info about them, they sound good.
I like the idea that they will be good for potty training. My fuzzi bunz will just be useless for that!
And you are right, at £28.45, that is a really good price.

Is it the large size that you have?

Mrs HP you have first dibs though, obviously

kreamkrackers · 03/07/2007 14:30

yes it's the large size. at least i don't have to go finding somebody else to take these ones off my hands if mrs h doesn't want them

i got 22 for £80.26 with the hemp inserts and they'd never been used, couldn't believe i got them so cheap. i sold the 7 pale blue ones straight away (which mrs h wanted but i sold them to the first person who said they wanted them which is why i'm on here first offering them to mrs h) but i recently bought some fuzzi's myself and have preordered the new girly limited edition one that's coming out then i realised i've got too many nappies!

so i was thinking i'll keep the 8 pink ones and sell the 7 pale green ones on here. i'm not after making money on them i just can't justify having so many nappies when i do a wash every night as both my girls are now in washable nappies.

oh and i also ordered a minki huggle to try for dd1 at night time as these nappies just won't do for nights. the minki huggles look so cute but they're meant to be huge, hope she takes to it. also just got her a new sleeping bag, even though she's 3 she's about the size of an 18m-24m old but i ordered the 3-6 years to get the most out of it and it's arrived today. it takes up the whole of the cotbed. i'm probably going to have to be careful getting her used to it for a few days before letting her sleep in it as she doesn't adjust to things well. same with the minki when that comes.

sorry bit of a long post. been a bit addicted to buying lately as you can probably tell and after looking at my paypal account i've decided to take a break from internet buying (well at least for the next couple of weeks )

fairysnuff · 03/07/2007 14:55

You will have to let me know how you get on with the night time one.
That is where I fall down.
I bought a wambamboo but it just seemed so heavy and smelly in the moning that I have fallen onto using throwaways again

kreamkrackers · 03/07/2007 15:09

bambineos are good. i boost them with their own booster our put two nappies on at a time for nights. the minki huggles look really fluffy though and like i said before i've been abit addicted to internet shopping lately.

how do you wash them? i now put mine on a 40c with a prewash using fairy non bio and in the conditioner draw i put some white vinegar and about 7 (luck number) drops of tea tree oil in (can get tea tree oil really cheap on ebay). they don't have any smell and no stains.

compo · 03/07/2007 15:16

Afternoon everyone.
We all got completely drenched going to the park this morning! Ds is now asleep on the sofa (phew) and dd is taking the opportunity to play with al the toys he keeps taking off her
I kep finding myself on the Maddie threads I have to stay away from them as they make me so cross. People say the most insensitive things on them

Coriander73 · 03/07/2007 20:45

hello

Haven't been around much as had christening last weekend sans DH! It's such hard work isn't it just the three of you & no-one else to hand the reigns over too....how do you keep a 9 month old quiet in church & without people tut tutting...honestly so much for goodwill towards others etc...!

Feeling brighter this week...sort of resigned myself to the fact that I may not have a career for a while & just enjoy the children. Have sent loads of CVs out but not such much as a peep...so back to making more muffins & yummy Jaime Oliver dinners (did one of his casseroles tonight & it was scrum )....was going to try a Tania Ramsay chicken & mango casserole for the children tm....well, now I'm at home I have to cook (DH cooks 95% of the time & whilst I can cook I just haven't enjoyed it the past few years etc but am now getting back into it)

The weather is driving me insane...I got drenched picking up the children from nursery - poor DS was crying with the rain falling on his face whilst DD was to walk to the car (despite me saying run!) with her eyes closed so the water didn't get in... At least I got to use my new wellies that the children bought me for my birthday!

HH...no bluewater meet up compo & bristols whimped out (or cold feet?!) on me

HenriettaHippo · 04/07/2007 10:51

hello all,

compo, stay off the Maddie threads. It isn't worth it. It makes me upset too, and doesn't help anyone..

Fairy, I'm impressed you're doing washables at night too. I'm still on Huggies for night, but do washables 100% in the daytime. But they are often soaked after a couple of hours, so nightime wouldn't work with mine... Should really at least use the Nature Baby disposables...

Weather here is irritating too. You set off, it's bright sunshine, you get to the end of the road, and it tips down with no warning. Crazy.

Have I told you all I have signed up to do the Great South Run? It's 10 miles... . I'm doing it with a friend for Cancer Active. Her sister sadly died from a melanoma related brain tumour about a month ago, aged 33, so we want to try and raise as much money as possible. So far, I've managed 3 1/2 miles... but training programme in place.... As resident running guru, any tips Marls?!

fairysnuff · 04/07/2007 11:48

Not me henrietta, Kreamkcrakers.
I chicken out cos of the smell
must just get on with it though.
Although would now have to convince DH that it is a good idea. He likes the ease of disp at night.
Also, he understands how to put on a fuzzi, when I tried to get him to put on the wambamboo, and a wrap(!), he was flummoxed!

He does the bath and gets her ready at night, you see, so it has to be ok with him or there would be tears

I just wash on a 40degree cycle. No conditioner.
I liked the sound of what you do though KK.
Although, it would mean I would have to do a dedicated cycle just for nappies and I don't often do that I will have to think about it.
I must give them a good wash with nothing in the machine soon though maybe thats when I could put in a bit of tea tree?

HenriettaHippo · 04/07/2007 12:19

on washing, I wash my reusables at 40 degrees, in with everything else (generally just bung them and the children's clothes from each day in as soon as they're in bed), with very little powder and some vinegar in the softener drawer. It was a MN tip I got - the build up of powder can cause the cabbagy smell, so drastically reduce the amount of powder you use. And once in a while put the nappies through on their own without any powder at all. YOu'll be amazed at how many bubbles there still are... I had to run mine through a light wash three times the first time until there were no bubbles coming out!!!
