So I don't think I'm going to catch up properly but glad the storm didn't hit you too badly Hugh (and anyone else if they were affected?)

We are taking weaning pretty slowly. DS really doesn't like being spoon fed - we are persevering with baby porridge in the mornings. But at mealtimes we just give him finger food and let him get on with it, as it's so much easier! We mostly just give him veg with the occasional piece of pasta or bread... or melty puffs if he's lucky! Haven't tried any meat or fish yet. I'm also a bit nervous about giving rice but I guess it's small enough that he could swallow it whole and wouldn't choke on it?

The last two nights have actually been pretty good! (Thanks for asking purple) DS slept from about 7.15pm to about 6.30am with only two wakings (around 11ish and 3ish) both nights. I fed him both times. If this pattern continues and the nights don't get worse I will probably try and cut down the feeds, but don't want to rock the boat just yet! Interestingly he has skipped his late afternoon nap the last two days. Don't know if it's a coincidence or if it helped him to sleep better at night - but we are tempted to drop that nap completely now.

Despite the better nights I am actually feeling exhausted for some reason, it's really weird. I think since I've had some decent stretches of sleep lately maybe I'm not in "crisis mode" any more and all the sleep deprivation of the last couple of months is catching up with me. I dunno.

Been thinking of you today purple, I'm not expecting an update as I imagine you're busy with your mum, but hope she is doing ok. Flowers

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/10/2017 17:23

sorry about your mum @purple

and maybe really whizz up meat, if you mix with veg it should be bitty

purpleviolet1 · 17/10/2017 17:30

Thanks all she is in surgery just now. Will update later

Glad we're not the only ones having slow progress with weaning and especially spoon feeding! I think he'll just have to learn how to use the spoon himself, but at the moment he just waves it about and the food on it goes everywhere Hmm

Carolann8584 · 17/10/2017 18:53

DD has refused all the bottles today but her bedtime one where she had 7oz straight off

She had multigrain berry Aptamil cereal for breakfast, baby rice (3oz formula) with strawberry and apple for lunch and cauliflower cheese with an apple and pear fruit pot for tea Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/10/2017 18:56

think i have a lazy dd Grin she is more then happy to be spoon fed, like a little bird opening her mouth

happy to gnaw on chunks of veg, toast, rusks but def happy to have puree

tho did refuse bedtime milk, not even a ml, kept shaking head and mouth closed, so has gone to bed with no milk :(

troodiedoo · 17/10/2017 19:30

Mine is the same @blondes loves the spoon. Bibs are usually clean.

I'm not brave/ organised enough to try finger food yet. Have some books on order to help kick me up the arse.

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/10/2017 19:59

It's just simple stuff. Semi cooked veg. Too soft and crumbles into a mess

Toast /crumpet

Rusk - messy

100yearsdotcom · 17/10/2017 20:22

Purple hope your mum is OK Flowers so glad ds didn't react to the rusk, that's very positive.
Will read back and catch up now x

100yearsdotcom · 17/10/2017 21:23

Properly pleased for you name! Well done and hope the improved nights continue!

I am having a bit of a tough time at the moment and am so busy that I can't even vent properly on here! :( hoping to keep up a bit better in the next few days but now need to go rest/sleep x

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/10/2017 21:29

Sorry you are having a rough time @100

coupester · 17/10/2017 22:36

@purpleviolet1 I'm sorry to hear about your mum, I hope the surgery went ok

@100yearsdotcom I'm sorry to hear you're having a tough time too. I hope it gets better for you soon

@NameChange30 I'm so pleased your nights are improving! Long may it continue!

@LazyDaisy6 we're not far along with the weaning! DS seems opposite to most other babies on here - we spoon feed mostly because he's not really interested in finger food. He loves his morning porridge but I think we need to bring dinner forward. His inability to nap well means he gets cranky around when we try giving him dinner and then just won't eat it.

Had my first KIT day at work today. Actually went really well, my boss seems happy for me to go part time and it was quite nice to be there - it sort of felt a bit like the old me, iyswim. DM looked after DS all day and he was good as gold apparently Smile

NameChange30 · 17/10/2017 22:41

Thank you 100 Smile Sorry to hear you're having a tough time. Hope you can get some good rest/sleep tonight and things improve very soon.

NameChange30 · 17/10/2017 22:45

Cross post! Thanks to you too coupester. Glad your KIT went well and your boss is happy for you to go part time - excellent news!

My job was already part time (3 days a week) and I'm going back to work next month, starting just 2 days a week and then 3 days from January. I'm looking forward to it actually! I know a lot of people like to take a full year of maternity leave so I sometimes feel a bit of a freak but I am ready to go back now. I think 3 days will be a good balance as I'll still have time with DS... just not all day every single day Grin

coupester · 17/10/2017 23:30

I'm planning to do three days too, I think/hope it's a good balance! I'm not sure I'm ready to go back properly, need to do a few more KIT days to get me back into the swing of things! I don't think you're a freak for looking forward to going back to work! Smile

purpleviolet1 · 18/10/2017 07:26

Morning all,

What a busy day yesterday. Mum was thankfully ok. Went to see her in the evening when she came around. Took longer than expected so I had a bit of anxiety. So glad she is ok I’ll see her this evening now.

@HughLauriesStubble glad you guys are ok !

@NameChange30 so happy for you with the nights - that’s a massive massive improvement! Hopefully his wakings were just teething related as he was cutting so many teeth. He just didn’t know how to settle back down.

@100yearsdotcom thanks! The only thing I noticed was that ds had little spots on his face again, but I can’t be sure if it was from that. I gave it him again last night..

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time Sad

@coupester that’s lovely you got it sorted with work. Must feel like such a relief. When are you starting back? (Did I miss that). So are KIT days when you discuss what you would like to do wen going back?

I would love to go back 3 days but not sure if that’ll work out. Need to discuss it properly with DH as well.

We’re not far along with the weaning either, had to give ds baby rice last night Hmm He didn’t like the lamb again so will try in a few days. Not tried him with chicken, pasta , rice or fish yet. Only been having 4 and 6 months + purees And home made puréed veg, baby rice and porridge.

Oh we moved onto the tommy yippee 7 months + spoons and they seem easier to feed from than the 4 months +!

Carolann8584 · 18/10/2017 08:06

Looks like we are going to have a repeat of yesterday. DD has had half an ounce of her morning bottle

purpleviolet1 · 18/10/2017 08:42

Oh she seems to be dropping her milk quickly. How much is she having in 24h?

OP posts:
Carolann8584 · 18/10/2017 09:06

Yesterday she had 19oz. But 12oz was bedtime and df. She had 4oz at 4am. Only had 3oz at lunch coz i mixed it in with baby rice.

purpleviolet1 · 18/10/2017 09:57

Apparently they need 16-20oz when 3 meals established so she sounds as if she is doing well Smile

coupester
Thank you! I probably shouldn't have said freak, I guess I meant "odd one out", as I seem to have encountered a lot of people who feel differently, but I'm sure I'm far from being the only one who is looking forward to going back to work!

purple
I'm so glad your mum is ok! Hope she makes a quick recovery.
A Keep in Touch (KIT) day can be anything really, you are allowed up to 10 days during maternity leave, and it could be going in for a meeting, working from home or going in for the whole day. I think you have to negotiate pay with your employer but you can be paid your normal salary without affecting your maternity pay. I am actually hoping to do some KIT days myself because there is a project I want to get involved in, because I would be managing it if I wasn't on maternity leave, and I'm the only one who can do it really - don't want to have to pick up the pieces when I get back (or worse, get back to a problem that's too late to fix and we'll have to live with)

So after two good nights in a row, last night was a step backwards. He woke up three times instead of two. Only 2 and 3 hour stretches (instead of 4 hours the other night). I do think his teething has flared up again as he's got red cheeks and is chewing ferociously today. I am really hoping that once these teeth finally cut through his sleep will be more consistently better - fingers crossed! One top tooth looks like it's nearly there but the other one is only just starting to cut through. I think we have a way to go yet Sad

WEIRD day

After df refusing milk last night she slept 12hrs and all done

Drank morning milk and had maybe 2spoons of weetabix and refused

Didn't want lunch or tea :( but has had her usual 3 bottles of milk

Hoping it's just teeth. Been in ok ish mood but just didn't want food and her fav meals :(

Don't like her being poorly :( so unlike her not to want food

Carolann8584 · 18/10/2017 19:59

blondes awww poor DD.

DD refused 7:30, 11:30 & 3:30 bottles but did a "I'm so hungry, feed me" cry at 1 just before her afternoon nap Confused she had her bedtime bottle no problem 7oz.

Tried her with weetabix for breakfast, don't think she likes the texture so ended up making her some porridge which she wolfed down as usual. Had baby rice(3oz) with strawberry and apple for lunch. Tried her with something new for tea. Chicken, sweetcorn and mash, was too lumpy for her but blended for ages. She just starts choking on the tiniest lumps Hmm

Still a little congested but a lot better than she was. Thinks that's why she's off her bottles She's holding her breathe while drinking so when she gasps for breath she chokes ☹
