DD screaming off and on for about an hour, finally managed to settle her, 🤞 she's ok now.

Nothing would help, she was sobbing her little heart out, shes still a bit congested so couldn't catch her breath or started coughing.

She went down for bed fine, best she's gone down for a while. She had Calpol before bed and her teething granules as usual at 6:30.

Normally when she cries out, her dummy is all she wants and drifts back off but tonight. Dummy didn't work, teething gel, lots of cuddles and rocking, teething ring,
Thought she was still hungry so tried her with a couple of ounces she had just over one which meant I could give her Nurofen

Took a while after but now she's settled.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/10/2017 22:31

@coup. Take as long as you want

Dd is only well established as weaned at 17w as milk wasn't doing it for her and she has taken to food like a duck to water 😂

Apart from tea today. Was weird @hugh - did homemade cheesey veggie bake and she loves that - then tried chicken and veg jar which she's eaten many times

Refused both. Cheeks glowing a bit but still no further in growing a toothy peg 🙄
And been in a good mood and slept well

Who knows

Has pork roast dinner and veg for lunch tomorrow (we had tonight) tasted yummy all puréed up so hope she likes

@carol. Poor dd. So horrible and heartbreaking when they sob

I've given nurofen on empty stomach before. It's ok. My paramedic friend said it's fine to do Sometimes

esp if dc isn't eating or drinking and in pain

Hope you and everyone else have a peaceful night

Carolann8584 · 15/10/2017 22:52

blondes last time I gave on an empty stomach she threw up the DF she had about 4 hours earlier.

She's stayed settled since about 8:45. Due her DF at half past, not sure if I should give more Calpol then if she wakes for another feed I can give her Nurofen or should I skip the Calpol

coupester · 15/10/2017 23:18

@Blondeshavemorefun thank you for saying that. Sometimes I worry that we're a bit behind because I have no clue what I'm doing and I have to remind myself that DS will do things in his own time! So it's good to be reminded that we can take as long as we need!

DS cried out in his sleep a little while ago but didn't wake. Is now having df, will see how he is when I put him back down but am wondering if he may need some calpol...

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/10/2017 23:18

Prob a fluke /coincidence dd was sick and brought df up before

Yes I would give calpol then if wakes again you can give nurofen

My bed is calling. Hope you have a peaceful night x

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/10/2017 23:22

@coup. They say food is for fun under one / for sonebabiee this is true. If they are drinking milk and gaining weight and wet nappies then they are fine

Guidelines say 6mths to wean and our babies are all 6/7mths now

Take it slow and steady and follow ds guide

It's not a competition 😘 As long as you and dc are happy what you are doing it's got nothing to do with anyone else

Others (like my piglet) need to be weaned earlier then 6mths. Hence why she well into all foods now as has been doing it for 10W+

Don't doubt yourself 💐💐

Morning all,

Jealous of you ladies breastfeeding and losing weight!

Thanks for reassurance re weaning too. Coup I feel the same.

Last night was night 3 without milk and I feel this has definitely helped him take to the solids better. He is having millet porridge with a bit of an EK fruit pouch mixed in for breakfast. For lunch, I have batch cooked lamb meat and was thinking he could have an ice cube of that with veg which we already have puréed in the freezer. Does that sound ok? Do I mix the meat and veg together or keep it separate when feeding?

We’re only just introducing meat so what should we have for dinner? Was thinking of sticking to veg for a few days until I see how he is doing with the meat at lunch.

Last night was a bit worse than previous given that he first cried out at around 4am, I offered him water and he took 4oz. He then cried out again at 5ish but I let him resettle. I think he was definitely hungry as he didn’t take solids well at tea time. Should I be offering more milk during the day to make up for what he isn’t having at night? I’m offering milk after meals now so he can really get the hang of eating. Although Yesterday I never offered milk after lunch but I think it was too early to take that step.

When should finger foods be offered? Ds is gagging a lot and has made himself sick a few times so it can’t be with solids or milk.

Love this thread for all the support and advice!

DS overslept for his first bottle by two hours!! I'm now worrying that maybe he cried earlier but I slept through it Confused he's usually my alarm clock. I feel terrible Sad

coupester · 16/10/2017 10:07

Our Sky has gone a funny colour... @HughLauriesStubble I hope the hurricane doesn't hit you too badly 🤞

purpleviolet1 · 16/10/2017 10:09

Coupester am sure you would have heard ds !

It’s so dark and gloomy here too. I got into bed when ds went for his nap and I’m just snuggled up mumsnetting... curtains are still closed Hmm

@purple I mix veg and meat up. Now do little meals like spag Bol fish pie etc all cooked with veg and usually add pot of extra veg as well

Formula boxes say our age babies need 3 x 7oz bottles a day so 21oz tho I don't see the harm in splitting into 4 feeds or if they have a bit more

Dd usually has this but sometimes doesn't want all milk

We do bottle when wakes up 730 ish and mix and left with porridge etc

Used to have 6oz at 11 but refused for last few weeks so don't give it to her now but often offer rice cake

Lunch 12ish and milk 7oz 230/3

Tea 430/5 and bedtime milk 630pm ish another 7oz

Seems they almost have solids and milk every 2ish hours

If I give milk right after lunch she doesn't drink it as full. So either has before sleep if sleeps 2/4 as activity or if sleeps 1-3 has after sleep

@coup you would have heard ds so don't worry. Obv wanted sleep

@hugh. Thinking safe thoughts for you

Carolann8584 · 16/10/2017 13:56

Having mini meltdown.

DD woke at 6:50 today which was great after a rough evening. She was practically falling asleep in while having her porridge so put her down for her nap around 9. Wouldn't sleep. Gave up around 9:30, thought she would sleep in the car if went out. She finally went to sleep at 11 but for only 25 minutes then DB and SIL came round DD had 2oz of her bottle then the rest went into baby rice with pear. She again was sleepy after lunch which is usual she normally goes for nap at 1, today shes still awake, doesn't want rocking but if I leave her like I have now I can hear her chatting and pulling herself round the cot. Clearly I'm doing something wrong! I can see she's tired but just doesn't want to sleep.

Now am sat at the top of the stairs stressing and having a moan that she's not sleeping!!

purpleviolet1 · 16/10/2017 15:18

Aww carol don’t stress, sometimes these babies have their own plans! She seems happy ? Nothing else you can do apart from put her in her cot and let her nod off if she seems tired. I know the feeling though - I have it too especially with nap times

Yeah she happy and smiley from the moment she wakes til the moment she falls asleep, sometimes she even does a cheek smile during her DF.

She's been a lot more settled this afternoon since her nap and she hasn't woken up since she went to bed at 6:45, gave her DF at 11:30 and she's still snoozing peacefully.

purpleviolet1 · 17/10/2017 00:30

@Blondes he didn’t really like it 😧 but seemed off his food as he didn’t take much of the pouch he normally likes either. Had a grumpy morning followed by a mostly cheerful afternoon. Unusual for him as he is mostly a happy chappy. Just woke up now crying. Gave him nurofen and anbesol and he seemed to perk up. Watching the projector. Will prob have a little moan when resettling to sleep 💤

Happy night everyone

P.s. namechange how are nights going for you now?

Shame he didn't like the taste of meat tho may take a few attempts before likes

It's a strong flavour

@hugh glad you are ok and lucky about leccy. My friend was left without power for 8hrs and no phone signal either

Blondeshavemorefun · 17/10/2017 09:42

Scoffed a whole weetabix this morning with a little fruit purée

purpleviolet1 · 17/10/2017 10:08

Aww lol what a cutie!

Yeah Blondes - I gave it with swede mixed it altogether it didn’t seem too strong but although puréed think he didn’t like the texture of the stringy bits. I must admit I’m a bit funny with textures too Blush I only eat chicken breast, chicken mince and lamb mince. Determined to make him eat more variety!

Gave ds a quarter of a Farley rusk last night in his bottle - it didn’t make it any thicker than his milk already is, as we add carobel thickener for the reflux. Couldn’t tell that it had anything else in it - I just put less thickener in. Afterwards I had a massive panic as I remembered that 100 mentioned he might react to it. But thankfully I don’t think he has (yet). He stirred at midnight and I remembered we had left projector on so when dh sneaked in to turn the projector off he woke properly and cried a lot for a few mins - unlike him but was happy enough when I applied anbesol and gave nurofen. Put the projector on and he settled back to sleep. He then slept through and woke at 7.20ish so no water offered last night! I imagine it was the quarter rusk?

Had some bad news during the night my mum is having emergency surgery today and I can’t get to the hosp to see her as ds only stays with her apart from me and dh. Dh taken a half day though so I will go as soon as he is in. Don’t think hospitals are safe places for babies and they probably wouldn’t let me take him in anyway.

Really sorry to hear about your mum, hope the surgery goes as well as possible Flowers

I'll catch up properly later x

LazyDaisy6 · 17/10/2017 12:28

Wow you all sound much further along at weaning than us. DS will still not take a spoon - will take the first spoonful, spit out the contents and then refuse to open his mouth again. He will sometimes have puree straight from an EK pouch but is still really fussy with those - generally just apple/pear based purees.
Have tried lots of BLW foods but they have been a bit hit and miss. He will eat the EL melty puffs but thats about all he will actually swallow. Other foods we have offered he picks up, puts in mouth, spits out and then won't try anymore Sad feeling quite frustrated with it all. Lots of other mums around me started at 4.5/5 months and seem a lot further along now so I'm regretting waiting till 6 months a little!

Hope all babies are over their bugs and colds! DS's cold seems to finally be getting better but we have six (yes SIX) teeth cutting. I went to the pharmacist this morning as we have been giving nurofen and calpol for more than the recommended 3 days and when I told him he laughed, told me to keep giving them and good luck!!

Hope the surgery goes well @purpleviolet1. My Gran was in hospital a few weeks ago and I left DS with my mum in the coffee shop downstairs. Not just for his sake but also the sake of all the people on the ward! Flowers
