Right ladies this is going to be used as a tip's, questions and answers etc thread for those of us who have had our babies and can't keep up with the chat on the other thread. (my word those ladies can talk)

And of course everyone is welcome to post on here the more advice etc the better.

So good to hear from you, Smole and congratulations again - am glad to hear you're back home, it must have been pretty stressful for you having so much happen straight after the birth. We've all been thinking of you. Jesse sounds just fab & I hope the feeding is easier now. I'd totally agree with you, re the DS - he's your gorgeous son, end of story!

claricebean · 22/04/2007 13:02

Smole - congratulations on bringing Jesse home. I'm so glad you've got the feeding sorted and that his infection was diagnosed and treated early. I think you are absolutely right about taking each day as it comes and not trying to anticipate every possible problem. It sounds like you've had a lot to cope with right after birth, but you sound like you and DH are doing brilliantly. Enjoy your lovely son.

octo · 22/04/2007 13:03

Great to hear from you smole

Been to midwife - stitches had healed and were pulling a bit so she took them out - they are supposed to disintegrate - she left one in which can now really feel!!

Ernie lost just a couple of ounces which is fine and had his heel prick test - she seemed really happy with his progress which is great.

She gave me a little sachet of lansinoh to put on nips - said they may have some more sachets in Bounty pack - so off to register for one! (we don't get them here)

Showed me how to massage his tummy when has wind and said the gulping was milk not air

Need to go and play with ds1 and 2 for a bit now - in need of some mummy time!

runnyhabbit · 22/04/2007 13:31

Hi all

Very quick message to all of you ladies in waiting -

KEEP TAKING THE RASPBERRYLEAF TEA/TABLETS!

It was my mw who told me off for not taking them, and I'm convinced they made the second stage of labour more "efficient" iyswim

If (and its a big "if") I have another lo, then I'll be taking it from 37 weeks exactly, and not stopping til it comes out

Sending lots of labour vibes to you all

xx

runnyhabbit · 22/04/2007 13:32

Bugger

Just posted on the wrong thread......doh

Sexonknackeredlegs · 22/04/2007 17:56

Hi ya ladies. Finally made the switch to post natal.

Hope everyone is ok, albeit tired and a wee bit sore perhaps?

I have such a bad back ache - I think from being hunched on all 4 hours during labour/birth for 2 hours. Every time I bend over it goes in to spasm.

All ok here. The in laws have visited today which was ok. MIL drives me mad with her soppy cooey voice though! Sorry, should be more tolerant, as they are lovely people.

Right, better head, as need to get yet more washing out of the machine.

Big love to all.

I have posted a couple of pics on my profile - not sure if it has worked or not.

See you soon. xx

Mossie · 22/04/2007 20:02

Oh lovely pics!! your dd1 is so cute as well!

Birdiemum · 22/04/2007 20:35

Boy this thread is quiet next to AN thread! Quite relieved, tbh!

Smole - good to hear from you and glad Jesse is on the road to recovery.

Well DD stil hasn't settled into a reliable pattern. Yesterday we had a lovely day in Sidmouth with DS2 and she slept ALL DAY - just being woken up for feeds. Today - no sleep at all without huge effort on all our parts. Hope we have more days like yesterday than today but at least she does sleep sometimes. Not much at night, sadly....

Off to grab 40 winks while she is asleep!

Eddas · 22/04/2007 21:53

SOKL, DD1 looks like my dd in her fairy outfit, very cute!!

Must try to post some pics or at least email some round, the dd and ds are very cute together.

Smole, glad to hear all is going well, I agree with not telling everyone about the down's. No need, doesn't change anything, he's still your lovely little boy.

Mossie, nice to see you're still lurking about!! My ds was 11 days late so know what you felt like waiting about. Seems like forever! DD was 14 days late, guess my babies just need extra cooking!!

Erm, can't remeber anything else.

DS seems to sleep alot, mostly in the day. MW says to play with him to keep him awake but what exactly do you do with a newborn? They just go to sleep anyway, can't seem to keep him awake. I was playing with his feet and kind of massaging him a bit earlier to keep him awake and he puked everywhere!! I'm sure it even came out of his nose!! Then within about 30 seconds he went to sleep!!!! Ah well can't expect him to be like dd who slept through from about 7 days

Does everyone else seem to be doing washing constantly and if you're bottle feeding making bottles? I'm sure dd didn't have so many bottles. Mind you mw did say that ds's yelowy/slightly green poo maybe due to overfeeding!! Trying to eeek his feeds out to every 4 hours now to get the poo back to yellow! We'll see

liath · 23/04/2007 08:16

Eddas, ds is sleeping a lot too. TBH I have a horrible feeling it won't last! He tends to be awake & fretful between 10pm and 2am at the moment then sleeps well from the 2am feed.

Nips a lot better today thank goodness. Combination of lansinoh and using shells instead of breast pads seems to be working so far. He's obviously getting enough as he's only lost a couple of ounces. BF is blooming hard work to get started, though - I keep telling myself it'll be easier soon !

By the way, any of you with little toddlers, this website is fantastic - very simple games, keeps dd entertained for ages. kneebouncers

Sexonknackeredlegs · 23/04/2007 08:36

Morning - already!

Eddas, pmsl at the mw telling you to play with your lo to keep him awake! A game of poker?

We had a rubbish night with Katie. The day started well, as she had a bottle at 8.00 a.m, 11.00 a.m and 2.00 pm, so every 3 hours, but after that it went a bit tits up and she was grazing really, so tons of bloody bottles to re-wash etc having only had an ounce or so. Did not sleep until 3.00 am and then awake at 6.30 am for a bottle. Now sound asleep!

I have to keep telling myself and dh that she is only 3 days old, so can't expect too much!

I am so excited today tho, as my brother is over from Singapore, and I haven't seen him since July. He is flying back today, but will come in and see us. Had Katie been born on her due date or after, then he wouldn't have been able to meet her. I just know I am going to be an emotional wreck - welling up now!

Right, need to get the washing on and then have a shower.

Lots of love and hugs to everyone.

Liath, lovely pics btw!!

Sexonknackeredlegs · 23/04/2007 09:50

Me again.

Quick question for those who are bottle feeding.

My boobs are about to burst, but I am not breastfeeding. What do I do? Do I ignore them and the milk supply dries up, or do I need to express some.

I cannot remember from when I had Becky.

I do recall cabbage leaves in the bra though!

Thanks ladies.

liath · 23/04/2007 10:04

Oooch. I stopped BF abruptly last time & took loads of ibuprofen, wore a very firm bra and a chilled cabbage leaf inside the bra is lovely. I expressed a little bit once or twice but I don't think you're supposed to. HTH

Eddas · 23/04/2007 10:56

SOKL, exactly my thought re playing with ds!!!

Re the boobs, i just took paracetemol(sp?!) every 4 hours or so. Doesn't stop the pain, but helps. Also wore a supportive bra. The pain only lasted for about 2 days now they feel fine. HTH

DS had a good nights sleep. DH stayed up with him til about 12.30 then he slept til 5, had a bottle then went back to sleep. Then he waited til nearly 10 for his next bottle. More because he had no choice as had to drop dh in town at 9 then dd at pre school at 9.30! As we were in the car he didn't seem to mind much.

Now dd's night was a bit worse! She had a sleep yesterday for an hour BIG MISTAKE. Woke her for her dinner, and what a moody madam!! Went to bed at 7, but was up at 8(hadn't been to sleep), put her back to bed, went to put washing away in her room at 9, she was still awake! Then at 9.30 she couldn't find her teddy so was still awake(although sure this was just a staying up ploy!) Checked on her at 10.15ish, finally asleep, teddy that she needed was at the bottom of the bed. THen she got up at 6 so dh and i have made a pact for no more daytime naps for her!!!

Birdiemum · 23/04/2007 12:00

SOKL - As everyone else has said - IGNORE - don't express! You can take all the painkillers you like and they should go down in a few days.

I'm still persisting with the bf-ing and I hope we've cracked it. This is a 3rd timer talking remember - sometimes it just doesn't get any easier!! Still bloody agony when she latches on but usually bearable thereafter.... We have been giving her on average 1 ounce of Aptimil per day as a supplement - usually in the middle of the night by Daddy and hope to do away with this soon. Feeling a lot more optimistic today!

WestCountryLass · 23/04/2007 13:28

Well ladies, the latest update....

My ironing lady starts tonight! I have had to admit defeat, I do not have the time or the inclination to keep up

Leo is as gorgeous as ever, he must be over 10lbs and his cheeks are beginning to bulge. He seems to be suffering from colic, we gave him a dummy yesterday as I could not put him down and he is getting too heavy to be carried in the sling ALL day. It seemed to help for a while so atleast he got a small sleep without griping pains.

DS started at his new school, not sure if I mentioned that. All is well on that front

That is all folks...

Hope everyone is doing well. Sorry not to be able to reply individually, time is in short supply at mo.

octo · 23/04/2007 13:57

Hello all

Have a urine infection so need antibiotics - will pick them up later and venture out for a walk! Nearly hit the practise nurse - she said I should reconsider Ernie's name before I register it - has really upset me - maybe just being hormonal!

Need to go play with the boys ... hope everyone else is well

claricebean · 23/04/2007 15:10

octo - at practise nurse's comments. Not surprised you were . I think it's a lovely name, FWIW.

WCL - hope the dmmy continues to help with Leo's colic. Not surprised you are trying to find an alternative to the sling all day!

BirdieB - I know hat you mean about the bf. This is my 4th time so I keep thinking it should be a breeze, but it is still very hard work. We are passed the agonising latch and onto the toe curling, grimacing latch.

SOKL - so pleased your brother will get to meet his niece.

Eddas - LOL re BIG MISTAKE. We have had many such moments.

Waves to everyone else.

We are having a good day here. Ruby is doing really well at night and still managing to sleep all day. Am sure that'll change soon - hopefully with the wakeful bits during daylight hours!

DH home in SIX days.

1becomes3 · 23/04/2007 16:04

Would you belive it just as things have settled down with the DT, now DD has got a tuumy bug and has been chucking up since 1am saturday morning, the poor little love has the trotts as well and a really high temp. So now not only do I have the demands of the DT's to meet I now have a sick toddler to boot.
Dh and I are taking it in turns to sleep in her room at night while the other see's to the DT's feeding so all my hard work with the BF is slowly going down the drain as they have been having some formula feed's
But I am to knackered to be bothered about it at the mo.
Anyone fancy doing some washing for me as I have buckets loads of the stuff, poor dd can never seem to hit her bucket.

On a happier note the HV came and zed has put on nearly 2 weeks worth of weight he has gone from 5lbs 9oz to 6lbs 5ozhe has even over taken the little piggie Lola!

Hope you are all well.
I am praying that I don't get DD bug, that would make life really intresting

OP posts:
liath · 23/04/2007 16:10

Reckon I'm at the toe-curling rather than agonising stage too - the things we put ourselves through!! Debating when to introduce a dummy here as ds would be latched on all day given half a chance & can be difficult to tell if he's hungry or just fancies a comfort suck. Midwife reckoned wait until the latch is really comfortable first. Have been really lucky with the two midwives who've been in as they've been fantastic for BF support.

Octo, I'd be fuming - Ernie's a lovely name. In fact I think all the April names are gorgeous.

liath · 23/04/2007 16:12

Oh, so not what you all need 1b3, will keep my fingers crossed it's short lived & not contagious.

liath · 23/04/2007 16:26

Gordon Bennett - so that's why you're supposed to make sure little boys willies are pointing downwards when you put the nappy on .

octo · 23/04/2007 17:15

well the doctor rang to check which antibiotics I don;t get on with and told him what happened and he said he would speak to the nurse - dh was absolutely furious when I told him - so not just my hormones!!

WCL - we went to the cranial osteopath this morning for Ernies colic/wind - he has been really calm since and the guy was very good - will wait and see what happens tonight before pass any more judgement! He also said to avoid all acidic stuff like grapes, tomatoes, citrus fruits etc

Must go - ernie awake!

nuttygirl · 23/04/2007 17:27

SOKL - I was told to "leave well alone" and take painkillers if needed.

Octo - @ practice nurse.

Well blood test came back and I'm anaemic (sp?) so now have iron tablets. Can no longer take ibuprofen for bad back cos it gave me stomach pains so have to make do with paracetamol.

Erin doing well although she seems to have a bit of cold...not surprising cos I was really ill with something fluey last week.

maveta · 23/04/2007 17:33

Popping in from tumbleweed city over on AN to say hi!! Sounds like you are all settling in well and getting lots of fresh experience ready to hand over to us leftovers when we finally join you.

Lol @ Liath re. willy!

Octo at nurse.. silly cow! It´s a lovely name and who the bloomin` heck does she think she is??!
