I'm the Easter Bunny
My nose is cold and runny
Don't think it's funny cos it'snot.

Wilks can I have your email address again iv lost it

theUrbanDryadLovesCremeEggs · 28/03/2007 08:49

y'know, as soon as i saw the letters: BLW, i just knew there was going to be controversy.

to add my two cents worth....i was going to start weaning at 20 weeks, but now it looks like i'll be starting back at work then, so may have to do it earlier. having said that, i could exclusively bf until 6 months then do finger foods. i'm really dithering about the whole thing.

Jodie - did you go back to work and to BLW? i'm probably massively over-generalising, but i think it's fair to say that a lot of mums who do BLW are able to stay at home with their LO's, and supervise things like giving finger foods etc. i certainly wouldn't trust anyone else to give my LO new foods, not since the strawberry cheesecake incident with MIl when Zac was 2 weeks old!!

anyway, we had a good night here, woke once at half 3, had a feed then back down till 8. not sure what i'm doing but i think Zac is quite an easy baby. actually, to return to controversy, i had heard that the time to start weaning was after your LO sleeps through, but then starts waking up hungry in the night again. anyone else heard this??

2HappyEaster · 28/03/2007 08:50

No I agree, Wilikie, most of parenting is about what feels right to the Mum, she does know her lo best. I just sometimes think that "my mum did this to me and I'm ok" is ok so far, but not always (my mum put me to sleep under a labernum tree, I'm ok but I don't think I'll be doing that with my lo's ) - but I also agree that there's research and there's research, and a lot of it is less meticulous than others and we all have to find our own way through. What worries me is if HV (or any other professional, not having a dig at HV only) are giving out of date or frankly dangerous advice, and people are looking at this as professional advice and have no other source of advice, that really gets me riled. So it's good that something like MN exists where you get lots of different opinions and suggestions and you can make a balanced decision.
You're also right, that this thread especially is about support, and we can debate weaning elsewhere. I hope I didn't offend/sound preachy (I have a habit) I'm just still a little narked at yesterday's HV and haven't quite climbed off my soapbox yet!

Now. Anyone want to talk about the MMR

theUrbanDryadLovesCremeEggs · 28/03/2007 08:54

MMR?? Zac's having it. we decided there was more risk in him not having than him having it IYSWIM. especially since measles can kill small babies.

laughalot · 28/03/2007 08:54

Hee Hee 2happy

Omg im having a period whats that all about

ellieandhattieandchocolate · 28/03/2007 09:30

MMR - not sure. Prob will have it done, DH thinks we should, I would rather have singles.

theUrbanDryadLovesCremeEggs · 28/03/2007 09:49

we don't have the option of the singles in our area.

ah well i'm sure he'lll be fine!

ellieandhattieandchocolate · 28/03/2007 10:06

we'll do the mmr ellie had it at 14 months, we made the decision and then decided not to read/watch any programmes about it

RGeeSusIsCrucified · 28/03/2007 10:15

2Happy - now look what you've started MMR here. Shall we talk about chocolate again? DH is under instruction to buy me a Green and Black's Maya Gold Easter Egg. Nom nom.

PCF / 2Happy - are all HV just there to wind people up. I constantly feel patronised by mine. Can't believe they said that to you PCF, and 2Happy I'm intrigued as to what things were said yesterday.

Laughalot - a period?!! Still waiting for my visit. Maybe I'm pregnant. (Just kidding - immaculate conception!)

laughalot · 28/03/2007 10:20

Yep a period I am back on the pill though so it was expected.

Wilkie Wilkie Wilkie did you not read my post [waves finger emotion], sorry chick I just want your email address again I went and deleted it the other day.

Aidan had mmr jab we were really worried and dh wanted him to have singles but he ended up having it.

Who posted yesterday about not shaking bottles to disperse the powder, well whoever it was well done I tried it yesterday and maybe its fluke but she seemed more setteled after a feed cant beleive I never thought of it before.

RGeeSusIsCrucified · 28/03/2007 10:29

Right, off now for the day. Grannie (my mum) is coming to visit. She isn't that fussed about babies, but I know she is going to find Pippa adorable. Who wouldn't

EasterHattieOrShouldItBeBonnet · 28/03/2007 10:29

We'll be doing mmr as well. DD had the first one at 13 months and the booster a year later - they recommend that round here because of the low uptake of mmr and the associated resurgence of measles.

I can understand why you want singles PCF - some HV's are so bloody insensitive, or maybe just plain rude?

trixymalixy · 28/03/2007 10:44

Yikes, I have a night off MN and you go all serious on me!!

This baby business is a minefield!!

My SIL has sent me loads of books on homeopathic !!I don't think I'm going to read them as it'll just scare me as I want DS to be immunised. You can't win. You're scared for your LO if you do and scared if you don't.

Now G&B's maya gold that's my kind of easter egg!!

trixymalixy · 28/03/2007 10:45

homeopathic immunisations that was meant to say

Lizzzombie · 28/03/2007 11:05

Hi - ok, we have our first jabs at 2.30 today. Do I give calpol before hand or afterwards?
I am not bothered by injections myself, but for this, I am shitting myself. I think I will probably cry in the doctors too. Help!

Lizzzombie · 28/03/2007 11:09

also, divvy question - but where do they give the babies their jabs? In their arses or in their arms? (I am not sure what to dress my little cutie pie up in today)

WilkieBarEasterEgg · 28/03/2007 11:09

I gave after Lizz xx

WilkieBarEasterEgg · 28/03/2007 11:10
