Our babies are teething, screaming and generally not sleeping, but we're still JS-ing - it's Just Mumming 10!

Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 10th Just Mumming thread...following the trials and tribulations of our babies, following the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 43rd grads thread is here

The thread we have graduated from is HERE in its 56th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

The previous Just Mumming thread is HERE

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

That's interesting about the Nutragimen, Purple and fantastic that it made such a difference. I wonder if Neocate would have done the same for us, if the little sod would have accepted it (it does taste completely vile, though, to be fair).

La, I wouldn't worry too much about BLW/ finger foods if that's not B's thing right now. When P was a baby he wasn't into finger foods, it was all about holding a spoon for him so he felt in charge. He learned to eat with a spoon super quickly and loved it. Now that he's 3.5 he prefers to eat everything with his fingers, including porridge. Sigh. It's like Armageddon here after meals.

Re. Cooking, I tend to cook up big pots of simple soup, casserole, pasta sauce, etc at the weekend and then freeze mini portions. I've been hooking out R's portions before I add any stock but he's still getting flavour from all the herbs, garlic, etc. It takes a bit of forward planning but makes things easier in that you don't have to cook everyday.

It has been pretty stressful but the worst thing is knowing that R is underweight and never has a full belly, poor little mite. It's the most basic of instincts, feeding your child, and it feels like such a parenting fail to not be able to give him what he needs.

Still, we're on first name terms with the pharmacist now, and she's hunting down another brand of Omeprazole for us in the hope that he might take it.

PS Gumming on food is good, it all helps them to get used to the taste and texture of food in their mouth.

RPopz · 10/02/2016 09:59

Yeah gumming is fine La. It's all steps in the right direction. Honestly don't worry about expecting him to eat 3 meals a day straight away either. It's too much pressure on you and him. Remember this is a totally new experience for him. Just offer him bits of food as and when it fits into your day. Some babies just don't do BLW so maybe just give it a couple of weeks and then try again. Gagging is scary but a good sign - he's learning about the sizes and textures of food and what he can and can't swallow. Anything too big will be pushed back out by his tongue thrust reflex. Its tiny pieces you want to worry about. I don't know about the science behind the "food before One" thing but I don't think the 9 months thing is strictly true either... Hmm I suppose you'd expect them developmentally to be able to deal with solid foods but I don't think that means they need them. Minipopz has only reliably eaten 3 meals a day since about 11mo. And he is far from starving! Wink Granted that is only a sample size of one.... Gill Rapley's BLW book is good for general weaning info, even if you're not doing BLW. Though obviously it is BLW biased.

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 10/02/2016 11:39

All the BLW/weaning discussion is v helpful, even though we are only at the very beginning of the journey. I did give him a stick of banana this morning which he did manage to get to his mouth a few times but it mostly ended up smooshed up in his hair and eyebrows. DH has a serious problem with mess so I think when he's doing mealtimes there won't be much self feeding allowed!

Major event occurring here now though, he is napping in the buggy in the kitchen. Doesn't seem like much but until now he's needed movement or slinging to do daytime naps. I boobed him to sleep just now and plonked him in the buggy and 20 mins later he's still asleep. I can't stop looking at him, it's weird him being asleep and not on me!

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 10/02/2016 11:40

popz, so glad to hear house sale all going through ok! That's wonderful news.

pretzelpieces · 10/02/2016 11:58

So sorry to hear about your colleague la.

Feeling very inspired by your cooking-for-weaning but also grateful I don't have to think about that just yet!

I met the health visitor today and she seems very nice (thank God, I just about managed not to burst into tears). She thinks M has a tongue tie and is looking into a referral. It would explain a lot.

I've got the GP for me this afternoon as well. Got the cramps and the shits and my lochia smells foul. Sorry for the tmi!

Hope everyone is doing ok today.

cookielove · 10/02/2016 13:30

Hi everyone :)

E will be 18 months on Saturday I am Shock how is he that old???

la the gag thing is meant to happen, I know its a worry but it is a reflux. E has never been a fan of picking up food to feed himself, if we did blw he would be a very hungry little boy.

jc sorry to hear about your piggy! Sad

I haven't really told people but I have a skin tag down below and it's being checked and maybe removed today! Eek!

Pisghetti · 10/02/2016 13:37

Sorry about your colleague La Sad

We did mostly BLW with B with occasional bowls of porridge or risotto which I spoon feed. She was a terrible gagger but that's normal. It's the silent choking you have to watch out for. She was having two to three meals a day and seemed fine but now she's in nursery they eat five times a day and she usually eats everything so I must have been starving the poor girl! She's chubbing up.

I'm struggling to catch up in work after being off last week. I'm on holiday next week too Confused my Facebook habit is not helping....

RPopz · 10/02/2016 15:31

Eeek pretzel Hope it's nothing serious. Perhaps just a bit of an infection and some abx will clear it up.

Hiya cookie!

DulcetMoans · 10/02/2016 17:11

Hi snap, welcome back! Stressful times over there, I bet it was hard to not pick the baby up for 6 weeks! Thanks for the leaflet.

Yay for belly buttons jelly! We kept it in his memory box - is that weird?

That doesn't sound good pretzel, glad you got docs appointment so quickly.

Don't worry about the weaning thing too much la, just take it as slow as he needs to. J has been good at finger food but rubbish at letting me feed him, they are all different. One of the babies in my antenatal group just won't take anything and is sick. I'm sure B will do it when he's ready?

You not quite ready to share brownie yet essie? Haha. I keep telling him it's poisonous to babies, that's my future excuse.

Enjoy swimming pud. Do you think you'll do dunking? Took me three trips before I would!

Such good house news popz! Will you push for an early completion date?

Good luck on the skin tag removal cookie, hopefully quick and painless.

Had second trip to CO today. Not much change after first one. He booked me in for next week but how much longer do I keep going with no change? It's expensive!

jellypi3 · 10/02/2016 18:07

I have a skin tag I need removing! I keep forgetting about it lol.

Question: how long can I justify eating like a pregnant person? And when did you start exercising / dieting after having baby?

pretzelpieces · 10/02/2016 19:13

Thanks viroids, I've been given some anti biotics so hopefully that sorts it out. I've a feeling the gut stuff is a separate issue so I'll probably end up going back. Walked into the appointment bfing one side with the car seat hooked over the opposite arm, felt like a boss! won't be able to do that once she's actually gaining weight

jelly M terrified me by losing her cord at 5 days but apparently it's healing fine. I wasn't expecting it to happen so soon and was a bit like "where the fuck is it?", found it inside her vest Grin also shush I'm still on the post diabetes cake and biscuit diet.

cookie I hope all goes well with the skin tag appointment. Smile

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 10/02/2016 19:46

Glad you've got some antibiotics, Pretzel, hopefully they'll kick in really quickly. I'm sure the GP will have noted your awesome breastfeeding skills!

Hi Dulcet! It was absolute torture not being able to cuddle my boys. Making up for it now, though, R makes sure I see him pretty much every hour through the night. Tinker.

Good luck with the skin tag removal, Cookie! I had one zapped a couple of weeks ago. Although it was not a skin tag. It was actually a wart, the GP said. I am officially an old hag. A haggard old hag with a wart and broccoli in my hair.

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 10/02/2016 19:51

Jelly, R is 7 months old and I still eat my own body weight in cake and biscuits every week. And I'm not even breastfeeding. I seem to be getting away with it at the moment, I presume because when you are awake 20 fecking hours in a day you need more calories to keep you going. I expect it will catch up on me soon. But I do think that a diet mainly based on sugar and fat is pretty much compulsory for the first 6 months.

ZylaB · 10/02/2016 20:35

jelly 4 and a half months old, I started couch to 5k, then joined slimming world after I lost half a stone. Have lost 3st 9lbs in total now! And she's just a year old. But I was huge before pg and same after :/

I am reading guys, just can't post as much because still got PILs here a lot to help as I've been told today I can't pick baby up still for another week at least :(. Stressing about results of big skin chunk on 22nd. I need it to all be ok now and the end of it except for lymph checks, if they tell me it was spreading I don't know what I'll do.

purplewhale · 10/02/2016 20:35

We had to put vanilla essence in the nutramigen to get him to take it at first. He didn't like it in readybrek tonight. Think I need to add fruit to it. He wolfed down the pear though.

I ruined my pancakes by using sweetener instead of sugar with my lime juice. They were minging! I shouldn't have syrup either. I don't know what to have instead. I should have just cooked some fruit or something.

cookielove · 10/02/2016 20:38

Well I had my appointment. No removal that will happen in June, my dr referred to it as skin tag but its in my foof so I need a local. The dr who saw it today said it was part of my hymen that was agitated during birth of E! So fun times!

purplewhale · 10/02/2016 20:40

Hope you feel better soon Pretzel

That's a bugger re picking her up Zyla. Gx for the results Thanks

I started walking after 6 weeks post section. I haven't done any other exercise yet. I did start weightwatchers in January. So far lost 6lbs but my head isn't in the game so I'm taking it slow. B was 4 months old.

jellypi3 · 10/02/2016 21:02

Thanks all! I guess I'll give it a couple of week before worrying about weight loss! My wedding is in August so I have that looming lol!

cookie could they not remove it then and there? My surgery loves chopping off skin tags!

RPopz · 10/02/2016 21:14

Aw jelly you've got AT LEAST 6 months of eating cake ahead of you. I only started exercising and eating properly a month ago, and only because I don't want to to back to work looking like a heifer!!

How many sessions do they recommend Dulcet? Don't be pressured to keep going if its too expensive!

Hope the abx do the job pretz. That is fucking epic Mumming right there! Have some Cake

RPopz · 10/02/2016 21:15

Hugs Zyla. Xxxx

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 10/02/2016 21:31

So sorry that you still can't pick up the bubba, Zyla, it's heart wrenching. I hope the 22nd comes around quickly for you and the results are what you hope for xxx

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 10/02/2016 21:43

Zyla, when I couldn't pick up the baby after my surgery my DP found a way to hold him so that I could still cuddle him without taking the weight, iyswim. It meant a lot. One of the hardest things was well-meaning family members whisking him away from me when I needed people to help me be with him. The first cuddle when you're able to lift her again will be just amazing.

jellypi3 · 10/02/2016 21:50

Aww zyla you poor thing :(

Jcandy · 10/02/2016 22:19

Hope it all turns out Ok for you zyla

jelly cake (and chocolate and biscuits) is definitely needed for the first few months, it's all that sustains me some days. Worry about that later on, there's enough to think about right now!

Glad the house is on track popz hoping it all goes through for you very soon

Er that sounds great cookie..... as least it's going to be sorted. Ive got an appointment with the gynaecologists in March to discuss the slight issue of pooing myself from my foof.....

G's got a cold (as do I) she's been miserable all day and didn't sleep well last night so I'm also shattered. I'm really dreading tonight, no idea how I'm gonna get through it if she doesn't settle
