Welcome, welcome, welcome to the 10th Just Mumming thread...following the trials and tribulations of our babies, following the success of Just Shagging in getting us viroids upduffed!

For those that don't know, a 'viroid' is from the original JSing thread 1, where someone was trying to type ladies (in reference to all the JSing ladies), but their phone decided to call us all viroids instead!

The name stuck and we've been the JSing viroids ever since.

The 43rd grads thread is here

The thread we have graduated from is HERE in its 56th outing. WARNING: they're all a bit kerazy not to mention randy!

The previous Just Mumming thread is HERE

There is also a private facebook group (so it doesn't give the game away in your news feed!)... if you want to join to see photos of new babies etc, just ask in-thread!

And hello to all the new folks on here that I don't know, congratulations to yous with gorgeous new little bundles and welcome to those who have come over from FB!

Jcandy · 09/02/2016 17:08

Hi snap sounds like you've had a lot going on!

jelly you can bathe her now Smile give her belly button a clean with cool boiled water but don't be surprised if it bleeds a little (if it's bleeding lots get her seen)

I've got G booked in for swimming lessons starting on the 1st March. I can't wait!

Found my guinea pig dead in his cage this morning Sad I'm really sad about it but I know we did all we could for him and at least he's not suffering anymore

jellypi3 · 09/02/2016 17:19

jc so sorry to hear this :( they can take a turn for the worse so fast, but you did all you could for him x

RPopz · 09/02/2016 17:48

Hiya snap! Blimey. Hope you're recovering from your surgery ok.

La - I'd do the mini shredded wheats soaked in milk and just put some on the table for him to pick up. We've only just started using dishes and plates because minipopz is inevitably more interested in the crockery than the food.... Shreddies or big lumps of weetabix work well too.

Hugs jc Sad xx

Have you got a happy nappy pud? The pools round here won't let you in the pool without 2 layers on their bum (so disposable plus happy nappy) to prevent poo leakages!!

How'd it go pixie? Xxx

Hobbit19 · 09/02/2016 18:02

Oh no JC, poor guinea, and poor you. Flowers Like you said though he is not suffering anymore.

Jelly, you can take babies swimming at any time. They used to advise waiting until they had their jabs but that was for the risk of polio which isn't so much of an issue anymore. She has her first lesson on Friday, can't wait! RPopz I did wonder if we were supposed to have something over the disposable nappy! Blush We have like a neoprene nappy to pick up on Fri before her first lesson.

Hi Snap, sounds epic. Glad your DH is being a star.

purplewhale · 09/02/2016 18:06

Blimey Snap you've had a rough time. Hope things are improving for you

We've had 3rd jabs today. He's quite grotty and has slept on me all afternoon. DH is home now and has taken over. I'm really tired too, think it's the sertraline

I'm impressed that you flew with a baby La. I was panicking when I went out for the day on the train with B

We're still on purees but good tip on the mini shredded wheat. Baby cereals are no good here as they all contain cows milk. I've got ready brek and weetabix, and porridge oats for when he's a bit bigger

purplewhale · 09/02/2016 18:08

Pud we have a neoprene nappy that goes over a swim nappy for water babies. It seems to work although TBF he's not pooed yet in one

B is now cooing and smiling at daddy. He's been awful for me!

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 09/02/2016 19:41

Hello ladies, it's nice to be back!

JC, so sad about your little furry fella, really sorry to hear that.

Recovery from surgery was just awful. I felt like I'd been sawn in half. I've got a pretty high pain threshold, two analgesia-free labours, but I couldn't cope with this. Anyhow, nearly mended now, though I do still yowl when BabySnap kicks me in the op site. Poor DP had to do ALL baby care, night feeds and pre-schooler wrangling, as well as look after me. And he got a chest infection in the middle of it. Bad times.

Re weaning, here we're advised not to bother with purées at all and if you do, to move very quickly onto soft mashed textures. I've been trying to cook quite simple things and so far doing ok. It's been quite fun. Successes so far are porridge oats cooked with his formula and mixed with stewed apricots (high iron content) or stewed prunes. Chicken with leek, sweet potato and apple. Carrot and lentil soup with coconut cream. Rice pudding with coconut milk. And baked potato with a chicken, tomato and sweet pepper sauce. I purée the chicken so it's still got a bit of texture and the rest is just fork mashed. Favourite finger foods (more for gumming really) are strips of white toast, dried apricots, slices of cucumber and mango. R has a very sensitive gag reflex so there is a fair amount of puking if he sticks something in the wrong place but it's all part of the learning, his brother was the same. Sicky and Picky, as they are now known. If there are no finger foods I just let him dip his fist in the bowl and splat it as much as he likes, messy play with food is really important for avoiding texture aversions, etc later on. Not for everyone, though, especially if you have a nice kitchen/ clothes, prefer not to wear broccoli in your hair for three days.

I've got a nice weaning leaflet from our local health team if anyone is interested, I can post the link.

Purple, how are you finding going dairy free? I'm if finding it really hard as as a family we eat and cook with a lot of cheese, yoghurt, etc. Let me know if you come across any nice recipes!

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 09/02/2016 19:46

Hi viroids. Sorry I got left behind.

popz hope it's all progressing ok with the house again now?

snap you poor thing that sounds really tough. So glad your oh is being amazing.

jc so sorry to hear about your guinea. You did everything you could though. Hugs. X

Weaning going well here. He's had banana, pear and sweet potato. Loves all of it. Today I gave him a stick of pear and he noshed on it straight away. I was way more worried about choking than I thought I'd be. He really wants to self feed though and basically wants to eat everything I eat. I met a friend in a coffee shop earlier and ds opened his little mouth each time I had a sip of my drink or a bite of my brownie.

Hope everyone has a decent nights sleep.

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 09/02/2016 19:53

X posted with you snap. I'd love link to leaflet. That all sounds delicious. can I come and eat at your house

I don't mind mess and am inherently lazy so would much rather allow ds to self feed and not have to puree stuff. Plus as he is so keen to do it himself it somehow doesn't seem right to be spooning it in. Just need to get over the choking anxiety. I've not been pureeing things very thoroughly so his first tastes have been pretty lumpy which he seems fine with.

Sorry to hear your surgery recovery was so grim. Sounds awful. Glad you are nearly fixed.

pretzelpieces · 09/02/2016 19:54

pokes head in

Hiii

pretzelpieces · 09/02/2016 19:58

Definitely pressed post too soon, sorry.

Trying to figure out who everyone is and failing. I know a lot of you from ug/grads and fb though. Thought I'd creep onto the grad grads now anyway sorry in advance if I can't keep up

Hope the weaning link above works, am totally outing myself location-wise!

Hi Pretzel!

EssiesInvisibleLlama · 09/02/2016 20:33

Hi pretzel!

snap thanks that's really helpful. Nothing that useful from Oxfordshire nhs!

purplewhale · 09/02/2016 20:39

So far we're just doing purees. We'll do baby led when he's 6 months. I haven't really thought about what we're going to feed him. I am going to try him with bits of dairy after 6 months and see how he goes.

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 09/02/2016 20:46

You are most welcome, Essie.

Purple, really hope little Purple can have dairy, my first little boy developed a passion for cheese and yoghurt very early on!

RPopz · 09/02/2016 20:56

Hiya pretz

House move is back on track essie! Should have a exchange and completion date soon.

My son has made a liar of me again.... Made him pancakes which he yummed up last time.... Today they mostly ended up on the floor / in the dog Angry I've had 4 and now feel sick. So much for the diet... Blush

Hope your colleague turns up safe and sound La - what an awful time for his friends and family Sad

LaLaLaaaa · 09/02/2016 21:56

Hi pretzel!!!

My baby won't do BLW! He picked up a bit of cheese today for the first time! Woo...

Colleague is presumed drowned. We are all very sad today. He was just doing his job and it's extremely sad

purplewhale · 09/02/2016 22:15

Oh that's such a shame La, poor bloke and his poor family too Thanks

I was thinking a bit of butter on toast and see what happens. If he's ok with that then try him with some cream cheese, if that's ok then a yogurt and so on
My nephew had it but they weaned him with dairy and he's fine now, drinks cows milk at 13 months.

SnapdragonAzZ09 · 09/02/2016 22:26

Oh La, I'm so sorry to hear that about your colleague. How devastating for his family.

Sounds like a plan, Purple, fingers crossed. Why do they think your wee one has an intolerance/ allergy?

purplewhale · 09/02/2016 22:35

Not sure Snap. I went in because I couldn't cope. He had colic and screamed the house down every night. The GP prescribed nutramigen and we've never looked back. He referred us to a dietician who advised to wean on purée at 4 months.

LaLaLaaaa · 10/02/2016 06:38

Morning! B is a trouper! Despite being snotty mcsnottison he slept with only 3 wake ups and 2 feeds. I have been holding him since 5 though as he was too snotty to put back down. He's all warm and cosy

Read that leaflet snap it was really good, thanks! I have a job getting b to pick up found - he seems quite happy to eat off a spoon but jus wont put food in his mouth himself. If I put finger food up to his mouth he will gum it but that's not the point!

Pud definitely a happy nappy over the swim nappy - keeps things in place! We are meant to be swimming today but I'll not take b with a cold.

Snap that all sounds pretty stressful ! Are you ok?

JC I'm so sorry about your piggje ;( you did everything you could and at least he was lived and not suffering. Sending you a hug X

Have you tried him on milk yet purple? I thought genuine CMP allergy is quite rare - so might be worth a try?

I'm going to persist with finger foods today. B gags at pretty much anything lumpier than purée though, it's really freaking me out :(

OP posts:
LaLaLaaaa · 10/02/2016 06:48

Iy sounds like you've been through the mill snap! But still cooking amazing sounding meals for minisnap! We are struggling with weaning onto our own meals. We don't eat together very much and I just grab soup at lunch myself so we are going to have to make meals especially for B. Need to get butt in gear

I was told by a paediatrician that the 'food for fun until 1' is a bit misleading and that it's more 9 months or so - you'd expect them to be eating more solids by then

OP posts:
LaLaLaaaa · 10/02/2016 06:50

Ignore my question about dairy purple - you answered it already!

OP posts:
Hobbit19 · 10/02/2016 07:51

Is it possible that B is gagging on food because he is bunged up La? It's hard eat and breathe through your mouth at the same time!
