Hi, I'm new. Have been reading the thread for a few weeks now but this is my first post. I'm mum to Zach Bernard, born 3 September 8lb. Now weighs 10lb 11oz.

Good grief! My ds seems like such a whopper. I miss his tinyness Lysettes - didn't realise your ds was soooo tiny. I do hope he is doing well. What was his due date?
Welome Bristols - i have not been a mumsnetter for long. Be warned - it is addictive!!!
Do you have any other cherubs? I have dd age 8 (9 in Jan)

ds just won't settle for nap today . Had a major breast fest yesterday didn't stop feeding all day! He eventually settled at 10:30pm and awoke again at 4:30am. Was disappointed as he had been doing over 9 hrs at night. I hope it will pass! . Gotta go - he has been asleep for 209 mins and is now yelling his head off........

ooops! didn't mean 209 mins. I meant 20! lol. 209 would be lovely though.....

Well, Ben seems to be a little monkey just lately... we have had several really bad nights starting from around 7pm and usually he gives in at midnight [very tired mummy emoticon] He will settle but wakes ten mins lately and roars and roars until you're pacing the floor with him just to stop him screaming. Last night was the first night he slept in his cot for all but one hour- from ten thirty til three fifty and then until five thirty when he came in with me until seven thirty... He has screamed all day though and eventually dropped off- prob because he is sooooo tired. It's driving me mad. Sleep deprivation is the worse and a friend told me they used to use babies crying as a form of torture during the war... It sure is enough to send anyone mad.

We have found a house!!! It is just round the corner from the other one and much nicer inside if a little smaller but not much. DP should be putting in an offer today but he is in a course so not sure if it's done yet! Eagerly awaiting news!!!

Pol - that's so exciting! Hope your offer gets accepted and you can be on your merry way to home ownership again by Christmas!

Lysettes - thanks for the new thread and gripe water info. Not having too bad a day feeding wise today but had a horrendous night feed with poor DH really upset about it all, going to have to do something to sort it out, can't go on.

Claire - Alex has hit about the same stage that you started struggling with the routine a bit and he's having trouble in the same areas. Trying not to get too stressed about it but it would be helpful if you came up with any ways to deal with it? He won't go to sleep now for example but it's raining so a walk is out of the question and I'm not driving round for an hour!

Hey there Bristols. Welcome to our thread!

Liquid, the only thing that works for us now is the dummy, or the car seat... I did read in Tracy Hogg's book that it isn't unusual for a small baby not to sleep for longer than 45 mins at a time in the day until they are bigger - but it is frustrating. We are still struggling with it really, F will always wake up after 45 mins to an hour, but the dummy will usually settle him down again. Mind you, today we were out in the buggy and he slept for an hour while we walked, and then another hour and a bit back at my friend's house (in the garden!).

Poor you and DH with the night feeds. I don't really know what to suggest.

Pol26 - our boys share their birthday! How much does yours weigh now? Congrats on the house front I but sorry re: Ben's bedtime hysterics . I do hope it's not age related! Poor you! Take comfort in the fact that all of these phases pass.......What is your usual daily/eve 'routine' with Ben? Dominic doesn't have one during day at all!

Pol - Poor you. As for babies' crying as torture, I believe it!!! Not to mention sleep deprivation. I hope you find a house soon!!

For you who are BF, kudos to you. Every time I read the word "engorged" I shudder.

Caught a stomach virus & was therefore running on hardly any sleep last night. J. woke at 1:30 am wanting to be fed ... Since I knew DH had just fed him (at midnight) I gave him a paci and a concerned look. He fussed for 30 seconds while I held the paci in his mouth, then slept. He next woke at ... 6:15 am!!

So ... we are cutting out that 3am feeding beginning tonight, then making the 11:30 feed earlier every night.
I'm staying in the same room with him though while "training" - think that'll make it easier for both me and J.

With this baby's temperament I doubt we'll have hours of crying. But will let y'all know how it goes ...

BTW, what is "Eastenders"? We get it on "BBC America" channel but have always been a bit intimidated - seems like the kind of show where you have to really know the characters to follow what's going on!

Eastenders is a soap opera we've had in the UK since 1984, and I think it's quite popular in the US. There are some characters in it that have been there since 1984... It's set in the east end of London, and prides itself on being gritty drama. It can be quite depressing!!! I think in the US there is a website devoted to understanding Eastenders, as the characters are all eastenders and many have have cockney accents that you guys find hard to understand!

Cruisemum- I noticed ours have the same b'days! Ben was 12lbs12ozs when he was five weeks six days but i've not had him weighed since. He was two weeks early (thank goodness...I think if not he would've been a good 10lbs...!) And only 35 mins in labour! Yeah (but no pain relief) boo hoo!

Well, the offer has been accepted!!! Yeah! And we are paying £250 more for the wardrobes, fridge freezer and cooker and bits to stay put as here they'll stay as we rent. All we need now is a bed! And sort out our moving date... Hooray!

Bad news is we are being graced with WB tonight which is annoying... as Ben is so unsettled the last thing I want is anyone else being here and making more work for me to do.

Congratulations Pol! Hope it all goes smoothly - shame you're nowhere near us, we've got a double bed frame going spare at the moment so you could've been all sorted!

Marls - that's a great night - hope you're feeling better and that tonight goes well.

Claire - that makes me feel a bit better. I'm thinking about getting that book as the 'other one' just doesn't seem compatible with having 2 children of different ages even if he did get into the routine - not yet anyway.

Thanks for all your welcomes. You're right, it is addictive! Zach is my first child and things seem to be going well. I also have trouble getting him to sleep much in the day. He will only nap for 30 mins in the morning and 30 mins in the afternoon. He sleeps well at night (from 8 til 7 waking at 4) which is wonderful but I worry he's not getting enough in the day. Its also very hard to get anything done...

Still no gas..bloody freezing.. Plumber is coming week on Monday....we're looking at 3k so feel totally depressed & cold!!! Other than that things are OK I guess. Still very tired like most of you I'm sure. Jack is very into a 7pm, 10ishpm, 2am, 5am routine at present. The thing is at both the 2 & 5am feeds he doesn't actual take very much.....but then feeds a lot early morning i.e 7, 8.30 & maybe 9ish then settles until at least midday. We'll get there no doubt......just wish DD would stop waking too - every night since J was born...grrrrr. All in all, 8 weeks on & despite DD's hysterics (& my lack of patience) it's not as bad as I thought it would be...does anyone else feel like that?

There is also chickenpox going around at DD's nursery so just a question of when not if I think

Marls, I used to love EE but switched off a few months ago as I found it all so depressing. Do you watch Scrubs? DH loves it.....

bristols, that's a cracking sleep pattern he has at night....I wouldn't worry about him not sleeping in the day if you get a full nights sleep (almost!)...I wish!!!

BTW, I managed to do up my "bigger" jeans yday..I was so proud...yet DH just took one look & said "do you need a hoist to get you out of them?"....Look I know they still look dreadful & I wouldn't wear them out yet (aside from the fact I can't actually move or sit down in then.. ) but that's not the point...I did them up...men.

Hi everyone. Cori - I feel the same as you, 8 weeks on and not as bad as I thought it would be but still don't feel sorted just yet!! (will I ever?!!)
Dd is starting to get used to her bath, feed, bedtime routine although we sometimes have to go in with the dummy about half an hour after putting her down - anyone else have this? The days are not structured at all - don't feel up to battling with daytime naps as well as getting the nights sorted just yet.
Marls - Eastenders is the only thing I SkyPlus at the moment if I'm busy with dd. Loads of info here The 2nd series of Bones starts over here next week - do you watch that?

We'll get there I suppose! Jack is sleeping much less in the day & whilst it's frustrating he is at least more content in his chair or on the babygym so I can whizz around if the mood & energy take me! I have noticed he doesn't much care to nap in his moses basket anymore, so might have to pass that on! He does love his baths though...just as well as yday DD (in one of her "let me see how far I can push my parents" moments) threw a small bucket of water over his head..!!! He didn't flinch!!!!

Is Bones good Compo? Saw the trailer on Sky, looked good. DH is really into NCIS which is ok but I don't enjoy it half as much as CSI (the original!!)..trouble is it's on past my bedtime & I always forget to tape it.

Thanks Claire for explanation - LOL re accents; on our birth shows English/Scottish/Irish accents are subtitled! ... let me be quick to point out I have no trouble getting what they're saying & I think subtitles are over the top ...

One show I've started watching that I love is "Heroes" - it's on the sci fi channel ... the premise is fascinating.

Cori, don't watch Scrubs have had heard great things about it. That's EXACTLY where I am in my fattest fat jeans!! Doesn't do any good not being able to wear them out of the house ... When DH saw, he was excited & said I was making progress ... as my stomach bulged an inch and a half from the closed zipper ...

I'm quite into Bones. Dh is a real sci-fi addict and I hate most of the things he watches (Star Trek, Babylon 5, Atlantis whatever, Stargate etc) but Bones is one thing we do watch together. Also we've been watching A Town Called Eureka which is okay too.
Bit of a crapy day here - dh got a d&v virus so has retreated to the bedroom this afternoon, as if I could if I got it Luckily ds has just fallen asleep on the sofa - he woke up at 5.30am and wouldn't go back to bed. I think dd woke him up as she was sick all over her grobag etc. Have decided to pack up the breastfeeding. I just can't keep up with feeding on and off all day still. Really impressed with everyone who is still going

Compo - hope your people get well soon. Men are no good at being ill, are they??

Am hoping for some advice. Am still breastfeeding but started to give a FF at bedtime about ten days ago. All went really well (DS will take food from wherever its offered!)but he hasn't poo-ed for three days now. He previously went everyday. Have just tried to give him some water. He took a small amout. Not sure what to try next. Has anyone else had this problem?

Compo - well done for keeping up with it this long! I had a real moment today where I just thought oh s*d it!' but having just spent a fortune on my new breastpump I feel I should keep going a bit longer! Hope FF works out easier for you and you're all a bit less stressed. (and hope DH gets over his virus quickly, can't have him skimping on his weekend duties can we!)

• seriously, it's normal for the frequency of poos to go down substantially when you introduce formula, there's just a lot more of it when they do go.

We've just come to the end of Stargate, recommendations for the best new series to rent from tescos please... We like scifi but not horror and nothing too whacky or cheesy (hmmm, she says having just watched the whole of stargate and farscape...)
