Pol26: Benjamin Geoffrey (Ben), born 7th Sept and was 8lbs 10ozs
Liquidclocks: Alexander James (Alex), 26th Sept 8lb 11ozs
Marls: Jameson Alexander, Sept. 3rd 7 lbs 11 oz, now 11 lbs 12 oz
Coriander73: Jack Christopher born 16th September 8lb 10oz....two weeks ago he was 11lb 10oz
Compo - Elizabeth, 14th September, 8lb 3oz

Have given up BF myself now, he started sleeping in his own room last nite - actually brilliant all round as I naturally wake for him to feed but its not so loud I wake up stunned into action - plus a good chance me and DH will cosy up again as we have our space back! Alex doesn't seem to mind a bit as he's got more room in the cotbed and loves his babygros.

Back in the old jeans since a while ago but looking desperately for a nice yoga class to tone things back to shape again....

Woodelf · 11/11/2006 20:26

Sorry for another post but as result of no longer bf have nice Medela swing pump and set of 6 habermann feeders going. May put on ebay but if anyone's interested do let me know...sensible offers considered etc...

Lysettes · 11/11/2006 21:42

just wrote a really long post and lost it!!!!!

cruise - jacobs due date was 6 sep so he was 8 weeks early.

bristol - welcome and re the pooing, we were advised a tablespoon of prune juice in a big bottle - we use it maybe once every couple of weeks as jacob never pooed as much as most other lo's do - it has really helped. but beware, you are due a huge all the way up the back poo!!!

has anyone any unexplained aches and pains - i've been gyming religiously 3 times a week and my knees are now totally shot to bits - the Gp suggested it's because my ligaments were all loosened when i was pregnant - and jacob is now 4 months! Couldn't offer any sensible advice except they may always be like this.....

pol - well done on the house - fingers crossed it goes smoothly.

have a great weekend everyone

Hi Lysettes, this is not one of my well referenced researched medical posts so can't guarantee total accuracy! However, as I understand it your body can take up to a year for all your hormones to settle down. In particular you're recovering from an abundance of 'relaxin' which as the name suggests 'relaxes' all your joints in preparation for lots of stretching into positions best left unmentioned! Give it time, I had loads of aches and pains after DS1 and same again this time but it does get better as you tone up again, pilates and yoga are good for that. The only thing I would say is that if at any point you are feeling unusually fatigued and your joints go hot and swollen then contact your GP again as the hormonal changes after pregnancy can trigger some type of rheumatic illness but it is pretty rare so don't worry. Because of all this though we are all more susceptible to back injury for the first 6-12 months so hope everyone's being careful lifting their little bundles!

Hi all, I'm new. Great to chat with people all in the same boat. Archie Alfred born 25th September, 9lb1.

compo · 12/11/2006 09:10

Hi Largs3 and congrats on your lo.
Well dh seems a bit better today so we might actually go pout and do something
Bottle feeding going well so far - on ibrupfofen while waiting for my milk to disappear (hope it's soon - ouch!)
Dd took a while to go to sleep last night but when she did at 9pm she went through until 5am!! Woo hoo. Hope it wasn't a one off

Hi all! I've added my details and resisted the urge to order the LOs in date order! What a control freak!

Good to read all the news. Welcome newbies, look forward to chatting! Pol - great to hear your house news.

Things are going well here. Lucy is now 8 weeks and is doing great. She gave us 2 weeks of sleeping from between 7 and 8pm to between 2 and 4.20am, but the last couple of nights has been back to being up twice in the night. Sure it's just a blip! Still exclusively breastfeeding and still not started expressing (think about it every Sunday as it'd be useful to leave a bottle of EBM in creche at church...).

Thought it'd be interesting to compare what our wee ones are into - dd loves her bouncy chair and quite likes the swimg if she's in a good mood. Not v impressed by the baby gym yet. Loves nappy free time and her bath (which she now shares with her big brother). Also likes the play arch thing that I attach to the pram.

Dh has bought me a ring for having dd and it's gorgeous. I picked it up yesterday (had to order it in the right size) and I keep looking at it!

largs3 · 12/11/2006 17:05

Tassis, my ds also loves nappy free time and I think he would stay in his bath all evening if I let him. I have seen myself running him a bath at 2am because he won't settle after a feed!!
He doesn't seem that interested in any play gyms yet but I'm sure that will all change.

This is number three child for me and I'm amazed at how much you forget about when your other children started to do things, like smile and take an interest in toys. Does anyone else find this? Maybe I should have taken time to fill in the baby books properly.

Lysettes · 12/11/2006 17:37

tassis - don't worry once we're all on the stats my control freakish nature will be ordering in date order!!!!

jacob loves being on his baby gym now, although that's only been in the last 3-4 weeks. And he's 17 weeks now. he's had his eye on one of the hanging ducks for a few weeks and a couple of days ago started wacking it with his hand! He also likes sitting on my knee facing out and looking at newspapers, books etc when we are reading. we've just got the very hungry caterpillar, quiet cricket, and "we're going on a bear hunt"

we also love our bath, and wouldn't get out of it if he didn't have to - cue wingeing when he is lifted out

and we had our first laugh today! made my heart absolutely melt, especially as it happened when both dh and i were there.

welcome largs3

liquid - will go to see GP as have been displaying precisely those symptoms over the last few days - was only 4 x 200mg ibuprofen that helped me sleep!

bristols · 12/11/2006 18:09

Hi Largs3. I'm newish too, welcome.

We're still waiting for a poo here. Am now dreading it after all your stories of up-the-back poos!

We bought a Bumbo today and DS absolutely loves it. He looks so funny sitting so upright but he seems to find it really comfy. He's just started taking an interest in toys now. Likes the ones dangling in his pram. Also loves his bath. Took him swimming for the first time on Friday and he enjoyed that too. He was exhausted afterwards and slept for hours. Another good reason to go...

Hope you all had a lovely weekend. Enjoy the last few hours

compo · 12/11/2006 19:02

We've got a Bumbo too but couldn't remember when ds started using it. He loved it too and it was great for weaning in as well.
Totally agree wih forgetting when first children smiled etc. I wish I wrote down boring stuff like feeding routines too cos sometimes it would help to think 'oh yes ds did that at this age and he turned out fine'

liquidclocks · 12/11/2006 20:59

I think they can use a bumbo from whenever they can hold their own head up - we're going to borrow one from a friend soon. DS2 at the moment loves being sat fairly upright facing out on our knees and surveying his little world. He also seems to like thrashing about under his playgym but unfortunately he keeps being sick when he lies down! When he's tired he doesn't like lying down much but prefers to snggle on our shoulders - so cute! He's smiling lots now too and I've put a piccy of him on the yahoo group - waited ages for that smile but so pleased when I snapped it!

Tassis - love that scottich tradition - I haven't even been given a bunch of flowers... (mind you, DH does load and loads to help so musn't complain )

Lysettes - hope I haven't worried you. Do go to your GP, a lot of these post-pregnancy things are passing but it's best to get checked out. While joints are hot and swollen it's best to avoid doing too much and rest as much as possible (I know with a LO it's diffcult) as it's a sign the support structures around the joints are inflamed and prone to damage if you strain them. Ibuprofen's exactly the right thing to take though so keep up with that until the symptoms go or you GP says otherwise. Hope you feel better soon.

clairemow · 13/11/2006 13:17

hi everyone, welcome newbies!

Well, F slept from 11 to 6 am last night, almost there... Feel human! Still managing to bf exclusively, although with two bottles of expressed, late feed and mid morning feed.

Didn't know it was a Scottish thing to get a ring - must mention that to my (Scottish) DH....!!! Sounds like you're being treated great Tassis!

Here, DS2 likes the playgym and watching DS1 charge about. He enjoys the singing class we go to on a Monday morning as well, with all the toddlers running around. And he likes the baby bjourn as he can see out then.

DS1 has just come in to the dining room with biro all over his face and hands!! - my fault for not supervising!! Going to get flannel...

tassis · 13/11/2006 14:01

Largs (do you live in Largs by the way?) I've also forgotten when ds did things. I feel a bit impatient for dd to get to the stage where she's interested in toys and things...but love the fact that she's still got that floppy newborn look and she "scrunches" up into a wee ball on my chest - lovely!

Lysettes - glad you're a control freak too! lovely that you had a first laugh!

Bristols - we're looking forward to taking dd swimming too. I plan to do it weekly while ds has his swimming lesson...although at the moment I sit in the cafe, dd generally asleep beside me and I read a mag/book and have a coffee - bliss!

LC - I hadn't realised it was a Scottish thing.

Claire - Fab sleep, well done F! Have you F facing out in the baby bjorn? We've not done that yet.

Ds adored the bumbo and we used it heaps. Don't think dd is quite ready for it yet.

My poor ds is sick. He has an ear infection, sore throat and is generally pretty miserable. It started on Saturday with him being sick. He's been screaming with the pain in his ears on and off since 4am this morning. Managed to get a doc appt about an hour ago and he's on antibiotics. Hopefully they'll kick in really quick. In the meantime he's never watched so much cbeebies in his life (1st timers if you've not got this yet, bet you do within a year!!). He's gone for a sleep just now which he never usually does.

cruisemum1 · 13/11/2006 14:07

Crikey - so many posts in so few days!! Hi to largs. Seems we are all at pretty similar stages sleep/feed and nap-wise (which us basically all they do I guess .

Bristols - had to laugh at you dd's bucket of water - little monkey!

Well, ds still taking ages to settle at night. Often bf's for around two hrs non-stop before settling. He'll then sleep for around 7 hrs till 5ish then sleep again till I have to wake him around 7am schooldays. I just cannot seem to get him off my boobs!

Compo, Cori and anyone who is still exclusively bf-ing: how regular are the feeds? ds still wanting feeding every 2.15hrs. Is this a lot? He absolutely will not stop until he gets what he wants. Have offered dummy (several times) which he hates with a passion. Also daytime naps are really hit and miss re: location/duration - anyone else?

tassis - I also have yet to express, tho the pump/bottles/steriliser are all there waiting....maybe this w/e?....

tassis · 13/11/2006 14:16

cruisemum - dd generally feeds around 7.30am when she wakes, about 11am, between 3pm and 4pm depending on when she wakes up and then at about 6.30pm. The first 3 feeds of the day I take her off after about 40 mins (say 30 mins on side one and 10 on side 2), but I let her feed for longer (usually about an hour though has been longer) in the evening. Up once/twice overnight for about 20 mins.

daytime sleeps are great if we're out and about - seems to like to have 2 sleeps of about 2 hours. if we're at home it's a bit harder to get her down and I may have to pop in a few times to resettle her or pop dummy back in. At home she ofter wakes after 40 mins and often can be encouraged to have a further hour or so if I have the time/patience to rock/pat/whatever. I have discovered that if I put her back to bed 90 mins or at the first sign of her being whingy after waking in the morning she's more likely to settle quickly. Ds was similar so I should have known this, but he was a quicker feeder and it seems weird that she's tired about 90 mins when she's spent 40 of it feeding with her eyes shut!

bristols · 13/11/2006 14:43

Cruisemum - My DS breast feeds about 3 hourly during the day. If we're out and he's in the car or pram it can stretch to 4 hours but not often. He was going 8 hours at night but has recently started waking 4 hourly at night. Hopefully its just a growth spurt and will pass soon
He has FF for his last feed before bed at 8pm but this doesn't seem to get him to go any longer. Its lovely though as DH gets to give it which they both love and I get some time to organise dinner in peace! As for daytime naps, we get a morning and an afternoon nap of about 45 mins.

Clairemow - hope the biro came off OK!

Tassis - Really hope the anti biotics kick in soon. Ear infections are miserable. I speak from experience

We're off to the docs this pm to get DS checked over as still no poo explosion..

cruisemum1 · 13/11/2006 15:20

Crikey. You all sound so organised sleep and nap wise! . I thought it would be easier this time round (dd age 8) but I am more confused than ever! More later, school run........

Hiya! Sounds like everyone here pretty much is having the same experiences as i am with ((my first child)) ds Fynn. Sleep seems to be the biggest issue. From what i gather, it's taboo to have your baby in bed with you..this whole rod in the back thing. but to be honest, i get waaay more sleep when he's with me than when he's in the basket.

We've been "weaning him" into the basket lately...but it only works for about half the night usually. My next attempt will be to use a grobag, which im awaiting very patiently to arrive in the post!! ok, so he's only 7 weeks, today... and a windy little bugger at that! ((a clerk at boots used the term Windy Pops. hahaha! never heard that term, but its cute so im gonna have to start using it myself.

nice meeting you all..i should take advantage of ds being asleep and get the dishes done!

MARLS001 - Im from texas & california but living in the UK...and to answer you, SNL isn't aired over here, although i sooo wish it was! Daily Show is aired here, but we get the day behine due to time difference. ((very grateful to have jon stewart!))

Take care all!

p.s. notice how nearly all the sepetember babies listed are boys?? there must be something in the water!! ALL the women on my ward that week had boys! all of them. plus my sister n laws and neighbors, all boys. everywhere, boys! ((not that i mind)))

Coriander73 · 13/11/2006 19:33

Cruisemum, DS normally BFs every 3 hours or so. Some days it'll stretch out to every 4, others (like yday) it's every 2.5. He feeds approx for 35-40 mins....sometimes a bit less if I'm lucky!! DH is now giving him a bottle of formula at the 10-11pm feed (complete nonsence that it makes them go longer!!) to give me a break as the expressing didn't go as well this time (not that I couldn't just didn't have the time with a toddler in tow). I'm then up 2am, then 5 & 6 ish. He had his first jabs today.....& weighs a hefty 12lb 10oz, exactly 4 pounds heavier than birth!

DH has taken back a friend to Stansted airport tonight which meant me again putting them both to bed!! Unlike last time (clairemow!) I managed to get DS down at 6pm then DD in at 7.....all well except that she is teething & or chickenpox is looming so have had to make mercy dash with calpol...!

Liquid, thanks for that re aches & pains! My knees are really sore at present...as is the rest of me!!! Infact every time I look at the one wedding picture we have on the wall (taken 4 yrs ago) I want to cry at how young, slim & beautiful I looked.....(& no wrinkles!!!!)

clairemow · 13/11/2006 19:44

hi Munkibaby, welcome. Don't worry about co-sleeping if you like it, and feel happy with it. It's only a rod for your back if you feel co-sleeping is a rod, if you see what I mean.

Hey Cori, well done on the bedtime thing! I've got to do it again tomorrow... Extra element I've added is CBeebies while DS2 gets fed... . On quiet and in dimly lit room!

Cruisemum, my DS2 sounds pretty similar to Tassis' - he has feeds about 7/7.30 am, 10.30/11, somewhere between 2 and 3, then 6.15/6.30ish. Then a late one at about 11, then it's anyone's guess... somewhere between 3 and 6! But usually only once. As for naps, he tends to need one 1 1/2 - 2 hours after he last woke up. Today he napped 9.30 for about 1/2 an hour, 12 for 2 1/2 hours (with one mercy dummy run!), and then catnapped a couple of times this afternoon in the pouch.

Tassis, we do put DS in the pouch facing forwards, his head is quite strong and he likes looking around, but can also fall asleep in there!

Tassis and Cori, hope your older ones are feeling better tomorrow...

The biro only came off in the bath... DS1 thought it was really funny, and I couldn't be bothered to fight, so he kept it on all afternoon at the park. Ooops!

Bristols, are you in Bristol?

bristols · 13/11/2006 20:24

No, I'm not from Bristol (although originally from Gloucester which is near). My maiden name was Bristow and I've always had quite an ample bosom so I gained the nickname Bristols from some of my male friends. Charming, I know!

Great news, DS has had a poo

Your guesses were right, it was an up-the-back affair but hopefully he'll feel better now. Doc advised giving water with sugar or honey. Not something I'd do on a regular basis but I figured he needed lots of fluid so I went for it. He drank 4oz after his feed which seemed to do the trick.

Have a good evening everyone and wishing you a good night...

cruisemum1 · 13/11/2006 20:56

Cripes! I feel worse than ever after reading your threads! 3 - 4 hourly feedings, predictable naps, babes in bed by 7pm. Mine is still fussing at 8:55pm after a two hour feeding marathon (every evening this happens). He falls asleep, wakes looking for someting to suck, won't take a dummy. Will not be fobbed off by rocking etc. Eventually falls asleep only to awake during transfer to cot. I am getting very frustrated as my dd needs me at bedtime too! I am sick of spending two hours (sometimes the entire evening) holed up in our bedroom in the dark with the TV barely audible, with my t*s out! Any suggestions please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

cruisemum1 · 13/11/2006 20:59

Now resorted to letting him yell his head off upstairs while my dd is trying to get to sleep in the bedroom next door. Just reluctant to get my boobs out only to go through the whole scenario again. Am I fostering bad sleep habits?Love him dearly but getting desperate. dh always busy, never in, blah blah blah......
PS Will not take dummy , will not take bottle - aaaggghhhhhh!!!!!!!
