Nov 2006 - part 1 - sore boobs and paper pants

Hi there,

Know I'm now offically a October mum but wanted too keep up with you all so if you'll still let me be a 'Nov mum' that would be good.

Our 1st week has been remarkably good - DD (first time I've typed that one ) is a wee star. Feeding is going really well, she came out know what to do and apart from being a bit tired all seems to be falling into place. Had a good cry as my milk came in but otherwise emotions have been ok. Luckily DH is at home for the next couple of weeks - highly infuriating at times but invaluable for helping getting big brothers out to school and for making dinner.

I am glad that your 1st week has gone well and I know what you mean about dh being home - mine is spoiling ds something rotten so he doesn't feel left out

Well dd - Freya is 5 days old today and everything is going well here, am mix feeding at the moment as she seems soooo hungry, she would constantly be attached to me if I was only bf and I don't think that that is very fair on ds. My trick is to go to bed at about midnight and feed her then - that way, I only get woken once in the night and it is bearable last night we took her up at 12:30am and she didn't wake up until 6:22am! I am sure that this was just a one off though

Well must go - have left dh downstairs with both ds and dd, while I had a nice bath - heaven.

Will try to catch up soon. I hope there will be more of us soon.

You pleased to have got a girl? Think if I'd have got a girl 2nd time round I might have stopped but would not exchange my boys for anything in the world (well most of the time I wouldn't ). Can't beleive you got 6 hrs sleep Katie does about 3 hrs o/n but is just awake for a feed and goes back to sleep straight away - I'm bed sharing so no big hassle just looking forward to her being able to feed without me having to do the attaching so I don't need the light on.

Yes I am really pleased that I have a girl, I really wanted one of each - I think we will stop now - if I had have had a boy I would have been happy obviously but I think I would have been tempted to try for a girl How old are your boys, and how are they taking to the new arrival? Ds is 23 months and although he loves his sister - he is trying to pick her up etc and doesn't understand the meaning of being gentle yet. I am going to have my hands full when ds goes back to work because I couldn't possibly leave them on their own in a room. I can't believe Freya is a week old tomorrow - her cord fell off today and I really cried when dh asked why, I said that it meant she was already growing up - must be the hormones

How are you? Doing ok here. Just not finding the time to go online - seem to be to busy sitting on my bum feeding and eating chocolate (going to end up bigger than I was when I was pg at this rate). Katie is 2 weeks old today - can't really remember not having her - she's just so part of us now! DS1 is 6, DS2 will be 5 on 4th dec and DS3 is 16 months. The bigger boys are both completely smiiten with their sister and DS3 goes from being lovely and wanting to kiss and cuddle baby to whacking her on the head and calling her bad. Also got to keep an eye on the cats to stop them jumping up and eating Katie's puke (yukks).

Had my 1st 4 child moment the other night - DH was out at the school PTA meeting - Katie and DS3 were really unsettled and crying while I was trying to read bedtime stories to the other 2 - ended up all in reading stories while breastfeeding Katie and balancing DS3 on my knee.

Anyway keep well and let me know how you are.

Was really emotional on Saturday and spent most of the day crying - just hormonal but not very nice.

i know what you mean about no time, even though i feel completely human, javnt been needing daytime naps and am not sore at all really (oh except boobs, but theyr getting better!) but still havnt managed to get online!!! and one handed typing is hard! lol

Huge Congrats Stacey - really delighted to know that your boy is with you. How did your labour go? How is DD with him? If you ever find time let us know.

My little suprise is doing great, the midwife's just been he's a little jaundice and he's not feeding to well today, he latches on and feeds for about -3 mins then either detatches and wont ake more or goes to sleep! Im going to keep persurvering (sp?) but if his wieght's dropped to much after 7 days he will have to go on formular. Hopefully when my milk comes in he will be a bit more egar.

He's a whole day old now! he didn't sleep to badly he woke a few time and fed about 3 short times, he is having a dummy he has a big set of lungs so i have to pop it in when having his nappy changed in the night or he wakes ds1 up.

He still doesn't have a middle name were still debating on wether to give him one or not, he does deffo look like a Harry though!

Hi, this is my first post - haven't been on MN much since giving birth last week but am beginning to get over the trauma of my birth and pleased to say that DD appears to be completely over as she's eating, sleeping and generally very chilled and happy.

Having IL nightmare at the moment - can't believe how angry they've made me and how much they don't seem to be bothered about their granddaughter - they're over from Ireland and staying for the most fleeting of visits which upsets DH. Their visit will total about 8 hours, seem to be spending more time in their hotel...... They held her for a combined total of about 5 mins yesterday and haven't asked about the birth or anything else, really.

I know culturally they're very different - FIL made comment about it being unnatural for DH to be washing bottles - I was very upset as I thought he was making reference to me not being able to BF, which upsets me terribly, but DH reckons it was more about it being natural for me to wash up the bottles - despite having stitches and being in considerable pain following forceps delivery (breastfeeding very rare in Ireland, apparently). Both ILs have made reference to me spoiling DD - too many kisses and cuddles - for my sake, I'm quite glad their visit is short as I don't know how long I can hold my tongue, but for DH, am very hurt as they really don't seem to give a sh!t.....

Rant over, sorry! Had expected less than enthusiastic welcome from their family, but not this lukewarm!!!!

Hi all just found the time to find this thread. can't believe that this time last week i came home with a new born little girl and she is already 8 days old. I am bf at the moment and have been okay but still unsure. Stitches are starting to feel better and my undercarraige(sp) is not so swollen now. My labour was 17 hours from start to finish and began with my waters breaking at 5.20 - due to blood pressure and cocyx i had an epidural around 2.00 and slept through till about 8.00 when all the fun began again. Will get dh to try and post some photos later

Delighted to have you over this side Charleesunnysunsun, squishy and eeyoreuk. Glad you all seem to be ok and to hear that your lo's are safely here.
Not envious of your IL problem squishy - last year when I had DS3 my evil (she really is) step-MIL was such a bitch that she never even came to see my baby (although my FIL did). She did come through to see DD but as it was day 3 and my milk was coming in I was quite "bluesy" so only hung around for an hour or so before retreating to bed with baby. Know its really hurtful esp for DH but its completely their loss - if they can't show some love for you all then hell mend them!!

Hiya everyone - so glad we are increasing in numbers this side now well - I can't believe dd is 2 weeks old tomorrow (where does the time go?) She is already 7lbs 1oz and is really feeding well (I am mix feeding) I even got a nearly unbroken nights sleep last night - she went down at 11:00pm and only woke for a cuddle at 4:00am then woke properly at 6:30am - I am sure I won't get many nights like this. My ds is 2 on Tuesday and it is quite sad really - they are not babies for long anyway, I am off now because my indian takeaway has just arrived - yummy. Take Care xx

Am very pleasedto post on the post natal thread! DS is now 12 days old it feels like we have always had him! He is still nocturnal, having 4 hour sleeps in the day and then waking every 2 hours in the night but hoping that turns around soon1

he really is an angel and I am so proud to be his mummy! DH has been absolutely fab and I am dreading him going back to work

We had quite a traumatic birth and even though he was 3 weeks early, he is doing so well, feeding like a dream.

right, will stop gushing now. hi to everybody else here and am looking forward to the others joining us!

Hello mummies and babies

Harry is 4 days old now! He is also a very nocturnal baby he sleeps all day and wakes all night!

I have the midwife coming today to wiegh him, he was very weak when he was born being 2 weeks early and he had completley knotted his cord several times and knotted it round his kneck so wasn't getting a great deal of nutrients in his last few days in the womb.

He is getting stronger now he's still only feeding a few minutes at a time but alot more frequently then before and he's going on both sides rather than just the one.
He has however decided all the time he's awake he WILL be picked up or scream i will have to get him out of that! DS1 was in our bed constantly from the time he was born and i don;t want young Harry doing the same although he's taken a disliking to his moses basket.

He's incredably cute (i am a little bias!) he's still yellow he looks like a little chinese baby bless him!

I have been feeling incredably dizzy since the birth im going to speak to the midwife about it just to get checked out.

I hope your all doing ok and adjusting.

hi everyone, well keiran is being lovely! he sleeps eats and poos, thats about it.

hes got over the feeding troubles that he did have, his jaundice has nearly gone and when hes awake hes a little strong man, holding his head up for ages, and watching dd run around like a mad child!!!

his birth went well acctually.

after being at cinema till midnight watching saw 3!! we picked dd up from my mum and came home, contractions were 20 mins so i thought it would be ages. at 3am i rang the labour ward as the contractions were unbearable but were 10 mins apart and they told me to stay at home, but i as insistant and went in anyway (it was gunna take around an hour to get there all together).

got into hospital at 3.45 and was directed to the birthing suit (which was so much nicer than labour ward) had 2 midwifes all to myself as i was the only one in there! wasnt examined till around 5.15am when they said i was 5cm, i insisted on pethidine but it came to the pushing not long after!! he was born at 5.57am weighing 7lb exactly! we had to stay in for 24hrs so they could do observations on keiran as there was meconium in the waters but he was all fine and we were home sunday morning!

i acctually feel like a human after having him, which i didnt feel after dd for about 3 weekss. i think it helps that i didnt have to have stitches! dh went back to work today and we still coping, dd getting used to being a big sister and jsut wants to hug and kiss little man, but she does need watching!

Stacey i know what you mean about feeling human! With DS1 i had an epidural, tons of G&A and 30 stitches plus i was layed on the bed unable to move through the whole 8 hrs needless to say i felt like shite for a while after!

This time however i didn't expect to be i labour so i just paced the ward and breathed through the contractions holding on to the side of my bed! So when they told me i was 4cm and dilating on her fingers [gross tim] i was shocked! When they took me to the labour suite i just walked around holding onto things when i had a contraction breathing and my bum didn't touch the bed untill i was 10cm and ready to push, i had a tiny bit of G&A to get me to that last cm and after he was born i had 1 stitch as he came out hands firts then i was up and washed and got him dressed and walked back down to the antenatal ward feeling 100% better! It was great!

Harry's doing fine his cord has come off and his jaundice has nearly gone. He's feeding alot better but has decided he is going to scream all night so i haven't slept since he got home! (little bugger!)

Hope everybody is well and doing ok? We went to our first baby cafe yesterday and had a lovely time meeting other mums and babies and seeing my ane natal midwife who couldn't get over DS's size!

Charlee - Harry is gorgeous! Am going to try and put a pic of ivan on here later but not quite sure how to go about it!

Ok, off to have a quick tidy whilst DS is asleep. We had a good night last night with feeds at 1 & 5 but the dreadful woman downstairs kept us awake in between with very loud music and singing so I am still shattered!

well i had lots of gas and air!! but i love the stuff! i ended up on all fours as when on my back rather than pushing i was curling up in a ball! felt much better once on all fours and hewas born really quick!

i didnt have any stitches this time, did tear slighty but she said itd heal quicker if left and i was high as a kite and didnt care!!! do feel much better 'down there' than i did with dd!

oh charlee i hope harry starts sleeping for you soon. i think im blessed with babies that sleep, i might strangle them otherwise! i dont do well without sleep!! dd slept from7-7 last night and lo slept 11-3.30, back down at 4 then up at 7 for a feed! i feel so blessed! sending sleepiness your way!

well keiran was signed off by the midwife yesterday although he's still slightly jaundice, so we got health visitor coming today to see us. hopefully she'll jsut give us red book and weigh him saying everything is fine! midwife said yesterday that hes put on too much weight (eh?!?!) as he was weighing in at 7lb 10.5oz yesterday which means hes putting on 50g (she didnt tell me that bit in ozs) a day and should only be putting on 30g........i dotn get it last week they said he wasnt eating enough and now hes eating too much and i should keep an eye on it and maybe restrict his feeds?!?! i dotn think so im gunna feed him if hes hungry, im not that evil!!!

Stacey - Surley you can't restric feeds when they are new born! I would feed him when he want's it if i were you. LO slept better last night, it's not so much getting him to sleep, it's getting him to sleep in his crib that he wont do! I gave in and put him in bed with us last night at about 10pm and he didn;t wake up untill 4.45am. The thing is we had som many problems with ds1 coming in the bed we couldn't get him out i didn't want the same thing to happen but at the moment i need my sleep so i gave in, plus he looks so cute curled up snuggled into me in the big bed!

We had the midwife in today, Harry's back to his 7lb 6oz birth wieght, he had the heel prick test and screamed blue murder before promptly weeing everywhere! (he does that alot!) He's got a little eye infection so we have some drops but nothing serious, he spends all day asleep still i have to wake him every 3hrs for a feed, still on the breast but not finding it painfull or anything so thats cool.

Hi all, well I made it over to the postnatel side! just finding it hard to get time on the computer! Paige is great although a little jaundice and has screaming fits at feeding time which means it takes us a good half hour to an hour to get her to latch on properly, my patience starts weighning sometimes mainly in the middle of the night!

Hi all - Stacey, I know what you mean about feeling more human this time around - I thought that how I felt after ds was normal but now I realise that I was suffering more than I needed to - I feel great after haveing Freya. She is doind really well, she fed at 10:30 last night and woke at 4:00am for 2oz (is it worth it?) and then again at 6:30am, and ds was up at 7:00am so not bad timing It was my first day on my own today, dh went back to work and I was dreading it but I actually managed to get us all washed, dressed and out of the house to a mother and toddler group for 10:00am (and I stopped at the post office on the way) I was very impressed. We got back home and we all had lunch and at the moment, I have 2 sleeping children I think I will go and join them when I have posted this
Well it was ds's 2nd birthday yesterday and he had such a great time, we took him to a wildlife park and he really enjoyed it, then both sets of grandparents came round in the evening and he got loads of great presents which he won't stop playing with - I just have his party to get through now, it is on Saturday and I have about 25 party bags to try to sort out before then - anyway - am off to sleep before they wake up Take Care all.

Hi. I was HopingCat but have changed name now. I don't seem to have much time at the moment to get onto mn but thought it was time I came over onto this thread.

Isabelle is 12 days old now and is generally a good baby during the day. At night though I'm finding that once she's woken up and fed she will not settle again. She will feed, go to sleep on me, then cry as soon as I move her. She then wants to feed again. Does anyone else have a baby that feeds for 2.5 hours at night like this? I'm considering introducing a dummy at night time to help her settle back down to sleep. Does anyone have any experience of this or know any reason why I shouldn't introduce a dummy this early? I know some people don't like dummies at all, but I'm not one of them now that I have a baby crying at all hours of the morning!

Happycat - You could be describing Harry! He does the same at night, i can't get him to sleep in his moses basket even though it's right next to my bed he wakes and feeds then won't settle for ages untill eventually he falls asleep next to me in mine and dp's bed it's not ideal and i know it will cause problems later on but i need m sleep!

The last few days he has fed 3-4 times in a row on one boob then the other for ages, he's a little piggy! Unfortunatley i can't give you any tips on how to solve it as i don't know! At the moment im just letting him do his own thing even though i had a hell of a time getting DS1 out my bed at night but i figure it's better i sleep at night rather than not as i have a toddler to contend with in the day.

We registerd Harry today so he is now officially Harry Lee. I also fed in publis for the first time and it was suprisingly uneventfull and fine no one batted an eye lid, DP was more worried than me about people seeing my boobs!

Oh forgot to add about a dummy - DS1 refused point blank to take one, Harry i have tried and he takes it and goes to sleep but beware becuase as soon as he drops it he's awake and screaming again! My sister got over this by giving her DD a cherry soother rather than a flat teat but Harry will only take flat. There is no reason why you shouldn't give your DD a dummy though it wont do her any harm and there all orthadontic now so shouldn't effect her teeth.

Problem with dummies is that newborns find it hard to keep them in - and certainly don't have co-ordination to replace them when they fall out. Apprently can also cause 'nipple confusion'.
