Hi there,

Know I'm now offically a October mum but wanted too keep up with you all so if you'll still let me be a 'Nov mum' that would be good.

Our 1st week has been remarkably good - DD (first time I've typed that one ) is a wee star. Feeding is going really well, she came out know what to do and apart from being a bit tired all seems to be falling into place. Had a good cry as my milk came in but otherwise emotions have been ok. Luckily DH is at home for the next couple of weeks - highly infuriating at times but invaluable for helping getting big brothers out to school and for making dinner.

Look forward to hearing all your baby news x

More congrats to everyone who has joined the "dark (circles under the eyes) side" since I last checked in.
My wee one is 3 weeks old today and pretty much an angel - if a sl. podgy one - weighed in yesterday at 10lb 7oz. Nights are ok mostly cause we are still bed sharing and feed lying down so don't need to move her once she has finally dropped off. She is generally awake twice for about an hour by the time she feeds and then squirms and sicks up. Was hoping this one might be less sicky and she is sl. but not that much less. Had the occasional marathon night feed but fingers crossed purely due to growth spurts.
On a positive note - always slept with my babies and never had any problems moving them into their moses basket/cot once they were more settled at night.
Not got much advice on the dummy front (DS1 had one but the others have never taken to them) but did have a friend that used to train her kids to suck their thumbs right from the off. Harder to get them to stop sucking but at least you don't (generally) lose a thumb or have to hunt the whole house and then send DH to the nearest 24hr Supermarket at blank o'clock for a replacement because its been mistakenly snatched by the dummy fairy or somehow else managed to disappear off the face of the earth!!

hi,

Happy cat, i have had this problem with Paige she refused to settle at night and has had me and dh up constantly. I asked the midwife for her advice as we were worried there was something wrong, she suggested topping up her feed with a bit of formula as it contains more calories (1 to 2 oz whatever she will take), it worked last night like a dream, however i would suggest you cup feed it to her, midwife used a bottle with Paige as she could'nt get her hands out of the way! she will now no longer go to the breast as it's to much like hard work, so i'm expressing and mix feeding from now on.

eeyoreuk · 18/11/2006 10:10

Hi all
where is the tim going Ava is 16days old already. If lo is sleeping should you wake them for a feed or leave them - when hv came on tue she was already over her birth weight, some times she sleeps for 2 hours sometimes as long as 6. She will sleep through the night one day and the next will be awake from 11 - 4 fretting and wanting to feed constantly. Last night bottle feed her formula and she slept from 12 till 7.30, then this morning she latched on straight away.

sorry for waffling will try and catch up again later.

oh and welcome to all the new additions

eeyore

Mummy2Toby · 19/11/2006 18:15

Hiya eeyore - I don't think there is a "correct" answer about waking a baby for a feed. My friend woke her dd every 4 hours for a feed when she was a baby but now at 2.5 yrs old, she still isnt a very good sleeper.
With my ds I wasn't sure what to do at first but in the end I decided that a sleeping baby is a good thing and if they were hungry they would wake up, so I sort of fed on demand - it meant that sometimes he would feed every 2 hours because he had had a long sleep BUT he did sleep through the night from 6 weeks, so I don't know if I helped or not with dd this time, I am mix feeding and find that she sleeps longer after a bottle than she does after being bf, so am trying to do a bottle last thing at night, but she still prefers sleeping in the day and being awake at night lol! Sorry just realised I am waffling, must be the sleep deprivation lol! take care and will try to catch up again tomorrow

Charleesunnysunsun · 19/11/2006 19:20

Evening all - just catching 5 mins while Harry is down, bless him he has decided if he is awake he must be snuggled into his mummy at all times otherwise he screams!

I'm sorry but im going to have a little moan - Sorry in advance!
I have a cold coming my throat is sore and im knackered, i have a urine infection so it bloddy hurts towee which i have to do every 10 mins so off to the dr's for me tomorrow unless i can get the midwife to test my wee here tomorrow and get the dr to leave me some anti biotics out.

Harry's belly button cord thingy came off a few days ago and has now started bleeding and looks all raw and yucky - poor baby i expect it really hurts him.
He also has an eye infection so he's having antibiotic drops 4 times a day, 10 days old and he's already on medication!
The midwife thinks his jaundice has come back so wont discharge us untill it has gone again although she does say it's very mild.

My boobs are leaking and soaking Harry and I all night long so were both getting changed at least twice a night!

----Rant over ----

On the plus side his sleeping is quite good now im not stressing about co sleeping, i have decided to let it be at least this way i get my sleep!
And another plus side is he's gorgeous and fab and he's all mine!

chubley · 19/11/2006 23:30

Hi - haven't managed to get on MN for days!

DS2 - Alex is 9 days already, quite a good baby, waking up twice a night and going straight back to sleep after 40 mins (that includes a nappy change between feeds on each boob - he poos at every feed day and night!). He loves his sleep so much that he had a slow start with bfing and needed lots of coaxing at first. Now that he's waking up a bit more in the daytime we get more cuddles and chat!

M2Toby - I know what you mean about getting emotional about them growing up - I was like that when he reached 1 week old - and probably will be every week or at every milestone! He's also our last baby.

Charlee - sorry to hear you're feeling rotten. If it helps, DD also had an eye infection at 2 wks old and had drops - it cleared up in a few days. If Harry's belly button doesn't heal, mention it to the midwife - she should have some stuff to put on it to get it to heal. DD also had this, we thought it had healed but it started up again, HV soon had it sorted.

I like the idea of waking Alex up and not letting him go too long but often can't go thru with it, as it seems such a shame to disturb him, and he might not feed as well if his sleep is interrupted. And a bit more sleep means time for another wash load or extra time with the other children.

Alex was 9lb 1 on Friday so has lost 9oz, so hoping he regains by n ext Fri. Both my other two lost that amount of weight at first, I always seem to have sleepy babes for the first few days.

I'm still on a high - I love him, he's gorgeous and just as special as DS1 and DD were at that age, even as the 3rd child. Sooooo glad we decided to have a 3rd and we're all well chuffed to have another boy.

Charleesunnysunsun · 20/11/2006 20:30

Evening

I must apologise for my moaning yesterday rather ashamed of myself for moaning when really i don;t have a lot to moan about! I have 2 lovley, gorgeous sons who admittedly drive me nuts at times but are also the best!

The midwife discharged us today she only popped round for literally seconds while she looked at DS2's colour (fine) and belly button (still bleeding but she's says that's fine) so no more midwives for us, not that i minded but mine seemed to think i had suddenly become a complete moron since having 2 children i got constant comments of 'oh are you on your own dear, are you coping?' and the partonising tones of 'gosh arnet you doing well breastfeeding i can see the weight just dropping off!'

She was nice really just treated me like a kid sometimes, i mean yes i'm quite young to have 2 babies but not quite as childlike as she seemed to think.

The health visitor is coming on Wednessday for our first meeting and to get DS2's red book.

I got some anti-biotics from the GP very quick appointment in and out, i like that particular Dr he is very kind and i knew what was wrong anyway so didn't need to fanny about with examinations, tests and what nots. a 3 day course and i will be once again peeing freely

Harry had been a grump today, crying loads im not entirley sure why but i think it's because he refuses to give up his wind so get's belly ache, he's fast asleep at the moment so i'm going to go and get into bed for a kip beofre he wants feeding again. I dreesed him in a tiny pair of jeans and a little rugby shirt today he looked so cute!

Well your all quite quiet on hear i suppose your all fawning over your new bubbies! Well good on you i say i hope your all having fun

calsworld · 21/11/2006 13:53

Afternoon all, hope you don't mind me popping over from the 'other side' of the nov thread....but thought you guys might be best placed to help?

Have a typical first time question - how many nappies should I have in stock and in what size, appreciate DH can go and grab more but would rather be as prepared as possible. I currently have three packs of 24 x newborn size (4 - 11lbs), which at 12 nappies a day (?) should last a week...does this sound about right - should I be buying some of the next size up as well....does it matter if i don't...oh god....i'm worrying about the most stupid stuff aren't I....anyway, if anyone could let me have any kind of advice (apart from taking a chill pill) that would be appreciated .

Love to all! C

novadandypowder · 21/11/2006 17:54

Calsworld - I'm from the nov 05 thread, was just looking on here to remind myself what we were all like this time last year. re:nappies, I went mad and bought loads of newborn size, but DD grew out of them really quickly and I was left with loads I couldn't use. I would say you have plenty to be getting on with and every shop sells nappies, so aside from a sudden rush and a national shortage you should be fine .

novadandypowder · 21/11/2006 17:56

oh, and 12 nappies a day sounds a lot to me, I certainly don't remember getting through that many. It's also good to see how big your baby is, if it's at the top end of the scale (ie: 11 lbs) then you'll need the bigger nappies sooner IYKWIM.

calsworld · 21/11/2006 18:42

Cool - in that case will resist urge to continue purchasing nappies for now.....

Ta v much!

podglet · 22/11/2006 17:38

Hi all

Ivan is 3 weeks old today and it is his due date We had our first visit from our health visitor today and he now weighs 8lb 8 1/2 oz which is brill

Calsworld, I am using a mix of disposable & "real" nappies and I have 10 real nappies to use with disposables for days out and overnight. I haven't bought too many disposables as I don't use many and lo will grow out of them shortly.

Eeyore, the midwives in the hosp drilled into me that i must wake him for a feed every 3 hours. When we got home, I couldn't wake him up properly and he slept for nearly 12 hours we had the on call midwife out who explained that of course, he had also been through the traumatic birth and was sleeping it off. I now really feed "on demand" and leave sleeping babies be saying that, he was up between 8.30 and 12.30 this morning, just being awake and happy with occaisional feeds. he has now slept all afternoon

Charlee - what a lovely pic of Harry - he is a smasher - hurrah for you! Now, don't laugh but have you tried dripping breast milk in his sticky eyes? Apparently it is brill for clearing them up...

whoops, sorry for long post!

Hattie05 · 22/11/2006 23:00

hello! i've just discovered this board.

I had Chloe on Sunday, a wonderful quick home birth. Things seem so much easier second time around!! As someone else said on here, i have felt completely human since birth whereas i was floating with the fairies for sometime after having dd1. I had my 'baby blues' on Monday and now feel really great and in control of everything.

DD wasn't impressed when my milk came in as i was so engorged neither me nor her could squeeze any milk out! But a good warm bath and me massaging them seems to have sorted that.

DP and i can't quite believe how many poos she is doing, and no matter how long we wait after hearing her do it, she always takes joy in pooing more once we take her nappy off. Today we have mastered the art of cleaning it all up without needing a complete change of clothes for her each time!

Anyway i ought to be off to bed now really! congratulations to everyone and i lookforward to sharing poo and other stories

Oh one more thing- how often are your mw's weighing your babes? I'm upset because my mw's don't weigh them . I'm told my dd won't be weighed until day 14 by the health visitor. I am going to ask my mw to weigh her next time i see her though as i thought this is an important indication that she is feeding ok!!

Only a stone to lose mygirl? I'm really , I have about 2 to lose and as Paige refuses to breast feed we are going to have to do it the hard way! DH thinks its so funny that before I got pg I spent so much effort getting a flat tonned stomach and now I'm flabbier than I've ever been with strech marks to prove it - hey it's worth it though.

Paige is 2 weeks old today and is all settled in. HV came out today and said that if we need her or want Paige weighed then we should go down to the clinic they hold every week as we seem fine and don't really need anyone to keep coming out - discharged within the first session - can't be bad!

Hi all - I can't believe that Freya will be 4 weeks old on Saturday and also my little boy is 2 now as Freya will be my last, I am finding it all quite sad that they are growing up! I took Freya to the clinic on Tuesday and she is 8lbs already so she is doing really well - she didn't even lose any weight after the birth I am mix feeding still and it is going quite well and last night Freya fed at 12:30 and woke at 5:00am for a measly 2oz, and then went through until 9:00am - although it is frustrating at the moment that she only takes 2oz, I am hoping this means that she might drop that feed altogether sooner rather than later - as far as normal clothes go, I was back in my jeans a week after the birth mind you they don't look that attractive with my flab hanging over the top Anyway - am off for a bath - take care all mummys and babies

MeAndMyBoys · 23/11/2006 23:07

Hello ladies, i found you. hope you don't mind me sticking round with you guys even though Sam is offically an October baby.

Congratulations to all the ladies that have made it over to this side.

Sam's doing really well, just over 4 weeks old now and has put on 2.5lbs!!! his nick name is Sam Sausage cause he's a piglet.

Take care

Charleesunnysunsun · 24/11/2006 08:16

Morning

I am feeling a little sorry for myself today, just a little down must be the baby blues not serious though i still love my 2 little squidge's to bits!
Harry has been feeding for hours at a time and im really sore even though his latch is great i think it's just pure over use! He's waking about every 3-4 hrs a night for a 30-60 min feed, just as i got him settled this morning Jack woke up and started crying to get up. Im shattered!

I can smugly say though i actually lost weight being pregnant somehow????? I was boardering 13 1/2 stone beofre i concieved now im dead on 12! And i look thinner, must be all the breast feeding! DP has kindly given me the go ahead to get myself a new wardrobe full of clothes as all mine are maternity clothes, to big or stained and horrible!

I really need to get some xmas shopping but it's so hard with both the DS's Harry's no problem in the buggy but jack is 2 and walking is a challenge how i wish i had opted for the double buggy!!!!

Harry is 7lb 10oz now so has out on 4oz since birth which apparently is good for an exclusvley breastfed baby. His eye is slowley clearing up and his belly button seems to have healed.

Poor buggers im a real grumpy mummy today.

chubley · 25/11/2006 01:10

Hi All

First of all, congratulations to all the new mums!

Alex is 2 weeks old now and has regained his birth weight so the midwife discharged us - the end of an era for me - no more midwives, as Alex is our last baby. He's fitted right into the family and so far it's been easier going from 2 to 3 children than from 1 to 2, though that might have something to do with DH having been off work! Next week I go it alone.....

Haven't tried on my jeans yet, might do tomorrow. I put on 3.5 stone this time and lost 1.5 stone when he was born and a stone (of water) over the 1st week, and a bit more since, want to lose another stone but there's plenty of time for that, not rushing that as breastfeeding.

Charlee, we got a tandem pushchair this time - Alex in the back and DD (20 months) in the front - it's great, except it fills most of the boot and is a lot heavier than our lightweight single buggy. It keeps DD safe on pavement walks and when shopping. DH doesn't like it but he's not the one who would spend much time trying to control her and push a pram! When DD was born, we didn't get a double buggy and DS1 was a nightmare at 2.5 to control and we couldn't go for walks, so I didn't get fit and stayed flabby. This time I want to go for walks in the afternoons when DD is tired and happy to rest in the pushchair. We bought the Cosatto duet lite from kiddicare.com.

Night night, hope you all get some sleep. I'm late tonight - am going to have just 1 late night a week to catch up with emails and paperwork - and Mumsnet! The other nights I'm trying to go to bed at a decent time, after Alex's last feed, which is usually around 10 or 11pm.

cheritongirl · 25/11/2006 18:29

hello.. is it ok to join this thread? There's not an initiation ceremony or anything?! I had my first baby - isaac - on 11th Nov, it sounds like you 2nd + time mums are all a lot more chilled out which somehow is reassuring! Things are going OK so far apart from not being able to settle him back to sleep at night after feeding, have resorted to a dummy which i am not that happy about, but glad to read others experiences.. any other tips v welcome! Am looking forward to reading all your experiences of your Nov 06 babies too..

Charleesunnysunsun · 26/11/2006 09:47

cheritongirl welocme feel free to join.

I have resorted to a dummy with Harry, don't feel bad i never used one with my first baby but he slept like an angel at night, all babies are different and sometimes it's easier if they have a comforter my DS1 never had any sort of dummy/blanket/secial toy and at times i really wish he had!

Harry does sometimes not want to settle after a night feed but he is still sleeping alot in the day so ifigure he probably just not tired, i just tuck him under my arm in our bed with his dummy and doze while he lays there quite happy [sometimes!]

Just been on the due in Nov looks like Ladyanne will be joining us she went to the hospital in labour last night!
The more the merrier - come on ladies pop those babies out soon!

Harry's doing well, this eye infection is taking a long time to clear up but it's so hard to get the drops in sometimes.
Having problems bringing up his wind so we have turned to infacol to help things.

Anyway can i ask you gals about your postnatal bleeding? Mine seems to keep stopping then starting again, just when i think it's stopped it comes back again the next day as heavy as a period again? I know it can last up to 6 weeks so im not to worried just wondering if it was just me?

Mummy2Toby · 26/11/2006 11:59

Hi everyone - it's my birhtday today!
I had quite a tearful day yesterday, I felt like Freya cried all day but it took me a while to work out she was hungry - I forgot about these sudden growth spurts but on the up side, she fed soooo much last night, I gave her the last feed at about 10:45pm and she didn't wake me up until 8:30am this morning She must have known it was my birthday and decided to give me a lay-in ..... even ds didn't get up until 7:30am so am feeling quite refreshed today. Hope the rest of you are doing well. Take Care.
