Sleep awful again Sad How come she didn't feed until 3 the night before last but spent last night screaming (and I mean screaming) if not perpetually latched on?

In the middle of the night we had to decide to give up on keeping her in her cot and trying to reduce feeds because it just isn't working and I'm in such a state. So resigned to who knows how long of being clambered over all night instead. Feeling like I might have to quit work, I just can't function like this any more.

lollipoppi · 03/02/2014 10:11

Shit glorious Sad wish there was something I could do to help.
Have you ruled out reflux?

Could you book of a day of work and catch up on some sleep for a day?

glorious · 03/02/2014 11:11

Awh thanks lolli. Actually I'm not at work yet but DD is settling in with the childminder so I've just had 3 hours sleep Smile

Do you think reflux would still be troubling her if she had it? I wouldn't rule it out. Until she started solids I'd often hear her be sick then swallow and she always had a white tongue. She used to feed very frequently in the day though so I thought that was why. And all babies are sick, right? I'll go and look it up...

glorious · 03/02/2014 11:35

I suspect it isn't reflux. But I wonder whether it's her allergies? She visibly reacts if I eat a lot of egg then feed her but I thought I could get away with a small amount like in cake. But the day before yesterday I ate none and she slept better whereas yesterday I ate lots of birthday cake and she slept badly. Hmmm. Time to try egg, sesame, plum and pine nut free diet for me I think. But I'm having some more cake first.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 03/02/2014 16:03

glorious sorry if you've said this before but is her cot in her own room or yours? How long has it being going downhill?

Allergies definitely could be the problem but food intolerance is linked to reflux so perhaps revisit that idea? DS wasn't diagnosed until 9MO and definitely still suffers. You can buy infant gaviscon over the counter if you want to try it.

DS slept right through until 3.30am before wanting a feed on Friday night, but then was up screaming from 10.30pm-2am on Saturday so I really, really feel your pain. Can you put back going to work for a bit if you don't feel ready?

glorious · 03/02/2014 16:15

God that sounds awful cupcakes . I didn't realise you could get Gaviscon otc, bit worried about constipation though as she had a bout a fortnight ago and got a small tear Sad I could try it I guess but I've heard it often doesn't work so not sure it'd rule it out.

She's in her own room which is downstairs from ours but there's a spare bed there too which I use from some point between 11 and 3 depending on how much she's woken and how exhausted I am. When she feeds for ages (I delatch whenever sucking slows or she gets sleepy but start again if she's furious) traipsing back up the stairs to our room is just too much when it's the second or third trip.

lollipoppi · 03/02/2014 16:20

Enjoy the cake glorious!
I would maybe visit the GP and discuss allergies, not actually sure if they will test them so young though?

Second what cupcakes said about the gaviscon, try it for a week, it does take a few days to make a difference, try sleeping her on her tummy?
Glad you managed to catch up on some sleep today you must be exhausted

Ds1 is likely to end up in hospital before the end of the night Sad his asthma has flared up today and no amount of inhalers are working Confused

LetThereBeCupcakes · 03/02/2014 16:21

Could you move her cot into your room? I often find with DS that he'll sleep if I'm in the room with him and I have a comfy chair I go and doze in.

How does she go off in the evening and for naps?

I keep feeding DS prunes and lentil fingers which seems to keep the constipation at bay. I think it effects some more than others though so perhaps we're just lucky (!)

glorious · 03/02/2014 16:31

lolli she's seeing a consultant for the allergies already Smile Perhaps I should ask her when we're next in. she rolls onto her tummy anyway. So sorry about DS1, poor mite. So scary when they can't breathe. He must be distressed too (I have asthma myself, it's horrible).

cupcakes it makes no difference and neither does cosleeping any more.

I'm not being dismissive, I really appreciate the suggestions Smile

I will perhaps try gaviscon and prunes then! Lentils keep her awake with wind...

LetThereBeCupcakes · 03/02/2014 16:32

Lolli so sorry about your DS. Hope something gets sorted out for him soon.

lollipoppi · 03/02/2014 16:54

I'm all out of suggestions glorious. Yes I remember now about the allergy testing. Hope you get sorted soon!

Have a docs appt at 5.30 for DS

glorious · 03/02/2014 16:58

Awh good luck lolli's DS1, sending airway opening thoughts.

salt1 · 03/02/2014 18:35

hope all ok lolli.

glorious my thoughts for what they are worth - switch to egglesss cake as egg allergy is hideous and try dates for lo rather than or as well as prunes xxx

glorious · 03/02/2014 21:07

Ok, no more eggs etc for me Shock

lolli thinking of your DS1 Thanks

lollipoppi · 03/02/2014 21:51

Thanks glorious, his stats were ok so we're home with steroids ect, will be a long night ahead!

Mum popped round to sit with DD whilst we went to the docs incase we had to go to hospital, when she left i said say bye bye to nana, she said bye bye! Her first proper words!

glorious · 03/02/2014 22:05

I'm glad he's not too bad lolli and passing you matchsticks for your eyes during the long night.

How cute, bye bye is a lovely thing to say! Bless, that's a good thing to happen today.

E got a Slinky Malinki book for her birthday which she loves and at bedtime she pointed at Slinky and said 'cat'. I hadn't even told her he was a cat so I was a bit surprised! She does love real cats though. She then kissed the cat on every page. Lack of sleep forgiven (for now!).

happyhow · 04/02/2014 07:33

Glad he's ok Lolli

My bro announced yesterday that him and his fiancée are expecting 2 weeks after we should've been. They don't know about us though so just crap timing. My mum then announced later that my cousin is expecting at exactly the time we should've been due! What are the odds of being told about two people on the same day?! Very reminiscent of my last miscarriage when I found out both my colleagues were pregnant on the same day 2 weeks after I'd miscarried. Grrrr! Now I'm very pissed off that we've wasted 4 months and everyone else seems to be having babies when we should be! Confused

Day off today so will need to find something fun...

glorious · 04/02/2014 07:50

Oh happy that sounds really difficult, I'm sorry Sad

Pascha · 04/02/2014 08:51

Salt Happy birthday to Floss today, she's the youngest of all our babies!

Lolli hope DS1 had an ok night. Asthma sucks. Byebye is very cute. Glorious Daniel kisses the gruffalo on every page! They are so funny aren't they?

Happy hope you find something extremely fun to do with your DS today.

BuntyCollocks · 04/02/2014 11:32

Hello all, happy birthday to floss and terribly sorry to hear about lolli's ds1 :(

How cute with the book kissing!

Dd has hand foot and mouth, so return to work is delayed another day at least. I've taken today off, was going to work from home but she is quite clingy so there's no point trying.

Had a lovely birthday weekend for ds, and have his party with his nursery friends this weekend. Attempting a gruffalo cake, so this should be interesting - be poised to laugh!

lollipoppi · 04/02/2014 12:33

Bunty we need pictures!!

Happy birthday floss!

Ds1 is still struggling, he fell asleep at 10.30am as he's been up most of the night coughing, at least he is resting if he is sleeping!

Tugstonia · 04/02/2014 16:26

lolli i hope your DS is ok now?

glorious how are you? how was your night? Hope things are improving sleep-wise Flowers Yay on E saying cat!

Happy birthday floss!

Got to see the gruffalo cake bunty! I had a meltdown over making a relatively simple chocolate cake for DD's birthday so v impressed.

That's really tough happy :( Hope you've had a lovely day with your Ds

We're down to one bf a day now - just before bed. How many bfs are others doing? My boobs seem to be coping ok so far.

Pascha · 04/02/2014 17:22

Four three. Early morning in bed, twice once in the day when its quiet and just before bed feeding to sleep.

Pascha · 04/02/2014 17:42

Aaggghhh - I've just spotted two upper molars in Dan's mouth! No wonder he's been a whingy bugger this last week or so. I put it down to the cold he had!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 04/02/2014 18:07

2 feeds in the day (morning and evening) and countles hours of sucking through the night! Don't think he's taking much milk over night though.

pascha Shock at molars already! I've barely recovered from his front teeth!

Going to have to have words with nursery again tomorrow. They have ds kiwi fruit today even though they have been asked not to as I am intolerant and DS had a mild reaction when I tried him on it. Grr.
