I don't think they do any developmental checks here as standard. From reading Mumsnet threads the health visitors in our area seem very hands off compared to other parts of the county - even though we are supposedly on enhanced service due to dd's prematurity I have barely spoken to an HV since she was a few days old

glorious · 12/03/2014 22:16

When E had a non blanching rash we were told it's actually one of the later symptoms of meningitis so very unlikely to be that if they're not unwell. E was unwell but improving before it appeared so they weren't worried.

DH on the other hand just collapsed on the way home and got taken to a&e in an ambulance. He's fine apparently, just a funny turn. I was resettling E when he kept ringing me and answered the fourth call with 'I can't talk, surely it can wait'. Erm no. Sad Feel terrible.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 13/03/2014 08:18

Oh no glorious - hope he is OK. You can't have known, try not to be too hard on yourself.

Tugs no idea if there's a test - we're just limiting his dairy for a bit and seeing what happens. Fingers crossed it will help. Not that I want him to be dairy intolerant - I just want something to work!

Polyethyl · 13/03/2014 09:22

Yes, the rash is a late stage of meningitis sign. By the time the rash appears you are very ill. So one needs to be alert to all the other signs and symptoms flu/neck/light etc in order to diagnose it before the rash develops.

mrsbug · 13/03/2014 10:25

Oh no glorious, hope he's ok.

I'm waiting for dds appointment to have her tongue checked. The receptionist has just told me there are 'long delays'

on the plus side dd is having a nap in her pushchair while we wait

BuntyCollocks · 13/03/2014 10:44

Hello all, dropped off for a bit as I've been puking and shitting for Britain wallowing in my bed.

fourlegs so so sorry. You and ds are better without him, although I imagine it doesn't feel like it ATM.

juniper looks like you had a lovely time away!

glorious don't be too hard on yourself, you weren't to know - poor dh :(

mrsb and apples I hope both dd's are better now?

Sorry to anyone I missed, catching up quickly on phone.

C finally went back to nursery yesterday, she was still throwing up at the weekend rather spectacularly (weetabix vomit is disgusting), but we think it's the reflux now rather than the bug as it's (tmi) mucusy and not just sick.

Asked dr on Monday about fast tracking her referral to paeds - told no chance and waiting list 6 months!! Shock

Luckily we have private healthcare through work, so I phoned them, and should have appt either 29/3 or 7/4. Thank god.

Oh no Glorious, how is your DH now? What happened? Hope he is ok Flowers

Bunty 6 month waiting list is ridiculous. Good you can get an appointment sooner privately.

DD is doing my head in a bit today. Just really whingey and tantrummy. I've also got PMT so it's not a good combination.

Mrsbug hope you don't have to wait too long.

glorious · 13/03/2014 17:43

He's fine thanks, still feeling washed out but nothing sinister. Bit of a shock for him I think though, especially as he's never passed out before.

tugs for those kind of allergies where the reaction isn't immediate there aren't really tests, diagnosis is through exclusion and reintroduction.

Angielka · 13/03/2014 19:27

Hi all, just quickly on allergies... DD1 has lots of allergies and the doctors we've seen have all said the best way to get rid of it long term to to completely avoid it. We've done skin prick tests and blood tests and now we exclude dairy, soya (which she developed after we substituted soya for dairy so watch out for that), peanuts, kiwi, mustard and eggs. Any slip up and we get eczema and runny poo. It's been stressed to us though that even if you don't see a visible reaction, the little bodies are under strain from any allergy so best to get it checked out properly at any hint and then take the necessary steps. It's a hassle but ignoring it doesn't make it go away unfortunately.

Oh fourlegs what a shit. I'm so sorry. Wine

glorious · 13/03/2014 19:45

I will bow to angielka's greater allergy knowledge Smile This site is useful www.allergyuk.org/diagnosis--testing-of-allergy/diagnosis-and-testing

lollipoppi · 13/03/2014 21:17

Oh glorious you wasn't to know, hope he is ok

Mrsbugs how did the appt go?

Bunty hope your all feeling better, must have been tough if you were all ill Thanks

Fourlegs how are you doing?

DD has been in a foul mood today, After almost 3 hours of constant crying/whinging, I put her in the pram and went for a 2 hour walk, she was absolutely fine all the way, until the moment I walked to my front door and she started again Hmm

Lostbobbles · 13/03/2014 21:28

Hello All

Been missing in action for awhile. Both DD's been ill again, ears, throat.... always something . Fingers crossed on the mend now.
Also dusted off the kindle and got engrossed in 'I am pilgrim--

Wish anyone else on the sick well.

Four legs truly sorry to read about your situ, must be such a tough thing to go through.ThanksWineWineWineWineWine.

DD2 is turning into such a little character strong willed little madam though. She constantly babbles but hasn't really come out with many new
actual words recently.

DH is away on stag trip until Sunday just a little bit EnvyEnvy

mrsbug · 13/03/2014 22:39

Hi all, the Dr said dd's tongue was healing fine. We had to bribe her with raisins to get her to open her mouth. When when did our helpless little babies turn into such strong willed little people?

Lost hope your dd feels better soon.

Dd only has a couple of words but has suddenly taken off with her baby signing, yesterday she was signing rabbit at me and dp said that it was because he had taken her to the pet shop earlier and they saw some rabbits there.

Four legs have some Flowers, Cake and Wine from me.

lollipoppi · 14/03/2014 08:14

Mrsbugs that's so cute Smile

Lost hope everyone is better now!

I popped into my accountants yesterday to hand the vat return in, the lady said to me "Ohhhh still a lady of leisure then" AngryAngry I smiled and nodded! Hardly think running a business and looking after a 1yo and 3yo is leisurely!!

fourlegstwolegs · 14/03/2014 11:06

Thanks for the kind messages. I'm still in shock, no appetite, feel sick all the time and now have a horrible sore throat. I'm sure it will get better with time....

AppleCrumples · 14/03/2014 14:32

fourlegs look after yoursel
mrsbug glad dd tongue better. Wish i kbew where the helpless babies went, its giung by so fast!

glorious scary! hope he is ok.

Here Ivy is causing madness! She got hold of my glasses and bent thrm, tried to fix and snapped the buggers and can't find my spare pair! Am blind! Specsavers tomorrow but its quite a stromg prescription and am bumbling around :(

Re tge rash rationally i know its one of the later symptoms but i still panic at the idwa!

LetThereBeCupcakes · 15/03/2014 08:00

Apple hope you get some glasses sorted pronto! DH also has a very strong prescription - it's a nightmare if he loses his glasses!

Well, we are on Day 4 of the Dairy Free Trial. Yesterday saw the first solid poo in six weeks. Nappy rash is almost completely gone, and amazingly DS is SLEEPING! We've gone from 3-4 wake ups per night to just one, which is a quick feed then back to sleep. Previously I'd frequently end up sleeping on the floor with him as he wouldn't settle. Obviously I don't want to get too excited as it could all just be a massive fluke, but I can't help thinking we might be getting somewhere at last.

Lolli I think I might have slapped that woman! She can't have had children herself.

lollipoppi · 15/03/2014 08:37

Glorious do you have family close by for some support?

Apple hope you get some glasses sorted soon!

Cupcakes yay on the sleeping and solid poo!
And no, she doesn't have any children, so she is forgiven for her stupidity comment

JuniperTisane · 15/03/2014 10:17

Cupcakes its amazing how quickly taking dairy away can settle a tummy isn't it? DS1 is so much better with minimal amounts.

Lolli did you see someone gizoogled your thread from tuesday on a thread last night. Made me laugh. www.gizoogle.net/index.php?search=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mumsnet.com%2FTalk%2Fam_i_being_unreasonable%2F2022655-To-have-smashed-an-egg-on-his-windscreen%3Fmsgid%3D45687180&se=Gizoogle+Dis+Shiznit

Apple I live in fear of my glasses breaking. I only have one pair and some sunglasses, must get round to ordering a spare.

Glorious hope dh is ok now? Must have been scary.

Fourlegs Cake We're all here for a chat if you need it.

lollipoppi · 15/03/2014 11:46

Oh.dear.god Shock that thread caused quite a stir! Think I prefer the gizoogle one Grin

AppleCrumples · 15/03/2014 12:27

juniper do it now! Dp has managed to sellotape the 2"sides together but any sudden movements and they're a gonna. Needed new ones anyway just hope can get them quick!

cupcakes that does sound promising, yay on the sleep and sokid poo

JuniperTisane · 15/03/2014 14:24

Yeah I should really. I looked on Glasses Direct to order some good price ones but my prescription is too strong for them. They didn't want to know me Sad

AppleCrumples · 15/03/2014 18:21

At this point can highly recommend specsavers! Not only did they shave down my old lenses to put in new frames, only charged 1/2 price for frames they gave me code from website for free eye test. whole thing only cost 40! That said i do need to get new lenses as my prescription is even stronger noe so they were obviously after me returning for the new prescription :) Whatever...am just glad i can see again Grin

glorious · 15/03/2014 19:39

Hooray for specsavers! Grin

DH is absolutely fine now. Thanks for the support.

We were planning to visit the city farm this afternoon but E slept in her cot for nearly 2 hours (with a feed in the middle) Shock So there wasn't time.

glorious · 15/03/2014 19:40

Oh and fourlegs I'm sorry. It will get better. Is he still there? is there anyone who can keep you company?
