Isles food porn please - what are you thinking?

We're having borscht, pirogi and venison (soaked in red wine and wrapped in bacon) served with roasted sweet potatoes for Wigilja on Christmas eve.

Christmas day we're actually having turkey which will be the first time I've cooked one as we have had goose, duck, venison in the past. Confused hope I don't fuck it up! Usual trimmings. Christmas pud and dairy free Yule log. Everything bar the Christmas pud will be dairy free - I don't like it so don't mind missing out Smile

Boxing day will be leftovers, a ham and bubble and squeak.

Anyone have any must try turkey recipes?

YellowWellies · 08/12/2013 20:07

PR my sis got her daughters Playmobil Christmas pressy direct from Playmobil and it was 40% cheaper than Amazon! Shock

I have, bar one fecking My Little Pony which I couldn't get anywhere else achieved an Amazon free Christmas. Tax avoiding barstards ain't getting my cash anymore Grin .

GT that's horrible Sad Sad Sad Sad

ValiumQueen · 08/12/2013 20:10

Sylvanians come in every animal imaginable now. The originals were brown bears. Worth a google PR as they are cute.

Not sure what we are doing for Christmas. It is my turn as my mum and I do alternate years, but with MIL being ill I have said we can go there instead. It would be a pain, but may be necessary. My mum is a cool dude and will be fine with whatever happens.

ChasingDaisy · 08/12/2013 20:16

Excellent news about LO PR. Fingers crossed for a good night.

Me and O will be at my dad's on Christmas Day. I shall be making Nigella's Yule log which I make every year. Usually make mince pies too but I'm the only one who actually eats them.

Am I fucking hallucinating or are there dancing Christmas trees on X Factor?

PetiteRaleuse · 08/12/2013 20:16

Yeah I just had a look. I think I'llbe avoiding collection toys like that as long as I live can.

I'm still working on my xmas menu. I think it will be just the four of us.

PetiteRaleuse · 08/12/2013 20:19

Thanks chasing. Yule log sounds yum. I buy mine from the local baker along with savoury mini tarts and quiches. Then I just need to do starter and main courses. They aren't expensive, they deliver on Christmas Eve along with the bread and are really good.

ChasingDaisy · 08/12/2013 20:23

I have Nigella's Christmas book. Christmas food porn.

I do love Nigella.

FlouncingIsles · 08/12/2013 20:26

Inspired by someone on here (yw was it you actually?) I am doing haggis stuffed turley. I have also never cooked turkey but found a great recipe eqrlier. Will link if I ever get the laptop back tonight. I am going to attempt crnaberry york puds to go with it. may need to trial that one in advance and a few other quirky trimmings.

Starters I am stuck. I am thinking of recreating a sharing starter from a restaurant I used to work in (baked camembert, pigs in blankets, pate and oatcakes, I can't remember what else....)

And desert. I hate xmas pudding so am totally stuck on this one. Ideas?

There will only be the 2.5 of us as my mum is weird fussy and doesnt eat other people's food and a crap cook prefers bland, 'well done' food so going there is off limits. Hmm

FlouncingIsles · 08/12/2013 20:27

not even going to attempt to correct all those typos....

PetiteRaleuse · 08/12/2013 20:27

I've never been a huge fan (find her shows annoying) but my sympathy for her has gone up so much the last few weeks I might treat myself to one of her books. Am going to buy a couple of French food mags too.

PetiteRaleuse · 08/12/2013 20:27

For xmas food ideas I mean.

FlouncingIsles · 08/12/2013 20:28

Plus I want P to remember this as the best xmas meal he has ever had from the woman he threw away. I am really fucked off with him tonight totally fuelled from looking atbhouses all day we could have had it all. Bastard. Angry Sad

Evilwater · 08/12/2013 20:38

Hello all, had a lovely day. This morning we have chilled at our new home. This afternoon and lunch time we went to the local garden centre with the best tree decorations for miles around.

It was packed to the gills! Oh all the wonderful delicate little trinkets. And the price. I popped n in to the tiny musical roundabout and he cried. Even the poor children on the roundabout tried to comfort him.

Tomorrow morning n is off to his dad. I'm. So angry! He's never really spent any time with n! but now we've split he want to spend time with him. Gr......Angry

By the gods!

It's enough to drive me to drink.

Xmas dinner is winding me up more and more.
FH is astonished that no one is offering us to come over in the evening.
I've told them that as FH is at work until three ill cook turkey et al in evening. Bil said ok, I'll have a lil bit then whatever Indian food you cook.
So they want Xmas dinner AND Indian meal alternative. Fml
FH says he will cook Indian food the night before. But that's not the point!
Why are we providing alternative meals?! When we go to their house we eat what we are given. When they come here, because its their parents house they do what they want.

Now tbh I kinda thought FH would cook an alternative anyway, as he is a very fussy eater, however am I being unreasonable thinking bil should not have assumed there would be? With no indication from FH that he was going to make something else.

Sad Again no idea why I am venting to you, FH has gone to work and I have no one else to talk to.

GTbaby · 08/12/2013 21:00

Mil -knock knock, are you asleep? The kitchen needs cleaning. I havnt done it. Then leaves.
If it was someone else posting this I would shout troll. Bth you can't make this shit up.

ChasingDaisy · 08/12/2013 21:03

Bloody hell GT you have the patience of a saint. I would have snapped a long time ago. Actually I did. I lived with the XIL's for 6 months and it gave me depression Hmm I really admire you.

Evil, the first part of your post was so lovely to read Smile Keep a note of that post to re-read whenever you are having a rubbish day. My advice regarding contact would be to get something formal sorted out. Some kind of routine. Will be better for all of you but especially N. He will cope better with a routine. Smile

YellowWellies · 08/12/2013 21:13

GT Sad Sad Sad you don't deserve to be treated like that. You're not a slave - you're lovely.

Isles one day you really will have it all. Your Mum's cooking sounds like MIL's - they really struggled with venison and crab and (shhhh sorry PR) oysters at ours last year but they don't cook 'interesting' for us so I wasn't going to cook bland for them! I'm gutted about Yorkshire puds they just don't seem to work with oat milk - haven't had one in over a year Sad . Enjoy those wee bad boys!

All the small critturs are happily asleep. The tree is twinkly and lovely. I'd have a Wine if I didn't go out on the lash last night! Four more days before DH flies off for darkest Peru the Falklands. Boooooo

flouncymcflouncerson · 08/12/2013 21:19

gt I don't know how you put up with that!

Xmas day Dh will be cooking... Should be interesting and most likely stressful. We have a ew scratched fan oven and I've never used one so I think we will have to do a test Roast chicken to test performance! Of oven and Dh lol

isles he's a lucky man and will realise this too late. I hope you can enjoy your Xmas without being too wistful. There are plenty of times for new memories to be made without him and with th at swanky new job of yours a lovely new home waiting I'm sure.

I loved Sylvanian when I was wee. Do has mine and my sisters old house for get first ever family for it. The elephants cos I loved them! She has hedgehogs now too as those were my sis favourite! I fear I've gone a tad overboard on Xmas, I never usually do but I've had so much time on my hands and I got so many bargains!

horseylady · 08/12/2013 21:24

My mums bought e loads for Xmas. But she always goes crazy. She's very generous. We had so much stuff for Xmas. But never anything throughout the year. She tends to buy loads of clothes and toys to see you through the year!!?

We've bought him a little tykes car thing, which he'll use in the summer. Some instruments and a few books.

Going to my sisters Xmas day.

Do babies have some kind of radar. Tells them mummy feels sad so they smile at you to cheer you up.
I gave up putting A to bed and bought him down. He is distracted by tv so gona clean the kitchen.
I'm an educated well traveled woman with a good managerial job. How am I in this situation?
Might sound like a stupid statement. But I'm not a traditional India woman who doesn't know any better. I don't even know what I'm trying to say Sad

YellowWellies · 08/12/2013 21:46

I loved Sylvanian families. I'm convinced my adult taste in interior design is pretty much an attempt to recreate my Sylvanian's house.....

ChasingDaisy · 08/12/2013 21:54

Oh teething hell. Poor kid has an incisor on its way.

flouncymcflouncerson · 08/12/2013 22:19

J has a horrid nappy rash, it's bleeding a but and very red. He's been drooling like a doberman today and has done 4 poos. Is it likely just teething and acid? Should we be doing anything else other than metanium? Dsis thinks we need to take him to Gp but that seems excessive!

ChasingDaisy · 08/12/2013 22:23

Oh and he ignored the Christmas tree - result!

Flouncy we have the nappy rash here too. Plus lots of dribble and poos. I think it is just the acid. I have just been using Sudocrem and changing frequently. Thanks for mentioning metanium, forgot I had some in a drawer somewhere so will dig that out and give it a go.
