As I so frivolously finished the last thread, I thought I'd better start a new one. Go!

Blimey cejay that sounds scary!

so a week after her first birthday dd finally has a tooth! I was beginning to think she would be gummy forever.

meringuesnowflakes33 · 04/01/2014 16:59

Cejay how scary, hope DD is better now?

Congrats miniBugs Grin. LO has six teeth and has just bitten me on the boob, again Hmm

bugsyclaus · 04/01/2014 17:26

Boob biting is one thing I'm really not looking forward to Shock

LetThereBeCupcakes · 04/01/2014 19:58

cejay how is your DD doing? Hope she is on the mend.

No boob biting here, but DS is a terror for biting my shoulder when I'm holding him - hard enough to draw blood. Not really sure what to do about it - if I say "no" he just laughs at me. I've been yelling "Ow!" and putting him down - he wails for a couple of seconds and then just crawls off to play. Next time I pick him up he'll do it again so it doesn't seem to help. Any ideas?

Sleep going haywire again, desperately hoping it's because we're off work / nursery and things will settle down again next week!

Cejay8 · 05/01/2014 20:51

S is still in hospital but so much better and we're expecting her home tomorrow; we cannot wait!

DH is on the night shift but she's more settled now that she's no longer on the iv meds and has been moved back to the ward - so he'll get a camp bed and a chance of some sleep at least. I had to try and sleep on a reclining chair last night as she was in the high dependency area.

They treated her for pneumonia as from the X-rays they can't tell if it's viral or bacterial. She's still a bit wheezy but she enjoyed a bath this afternoon and some peppa pigGrin

Meanwhile DS has been passed from pillar to post and he's back at pre school tomorrow. He's being very good though and seems to understand.

Cejay8 · 05/01/2014 20:55

Ps what's everyone doing for 1st birthday celebrations? I can't decide.... I've ordered her a very cute wooden pram (not that she's even standing ) as felt like spoiling her Smile

bugsyclaus · 05/01/2014 21:28

Cejay so glad your lo is on the mend.

Minibugs' birthday was two days before Xmas so we were a bit limited in what we could do. Family were supposed to visit but then their train was cancelled due to the stormy weather. Instead we took her to the sea life centre and she loved it, especially the big tunnel where the fish swim over your heads.

Lostbaubles · 05/01/2014 22:26

Pascha: Very Happy Birthday to Dan, hope he liked his present and you all had a good day.

Cejay, good to hear DD is on the mend. Fingers crossed she is back home tomorrow. As for those reclining chairs, whoever designed them should be shot! And whoever decided they should be used for parents in baby / children's ward should be double shot

glorious · 05/01/2014 22:28

That's good news cejay, hope it does work out tomorrow.

cupcakes I've never yet been bitten badly but I just say 'no that hurts mummy' in an even tone then put her down and ignore briefly (like 20 seconds). No idea if it'll work though.

angielka good luck with the grand milk plan. Sleep seems not to be improving though settling is mostly ok. I guess I'll have to get tougher on the feeds Sad

Pascha · 06/01/2014 07:48

Morning everyone. Dan had a lovely birthday yesterday, family party at home with lots of cake and toys everywhere. Lora is next I think? Happy birthday Dexter!

Back to the nursery run this morning. No time for more chat...

Birdies · 06/01/2014 07:52

Happy belated birthday to dan! Did he enjoy his zebra?

cejay glad she is much better, how scary for you all. Hope you do get to take her home today!

lost sorry to hear about DHs job. Very exciting about the walking!

Is anyone else's baby not pointing or waving yet? X is very sociable in a looking at me for approval way - so when she plays her xylophone she likes lots of praise and looks at me. And she smiles when I do. But she doesn't copy facial expressions either. Should be worried yet?

Birdies · 06/01/2014 07:52

And happy birthday to Dexter!

meringuesnowflakes33 · 06/01/2014 07:55

Great news Cejay you must be so looking forward to that.

Happy birthday Dan!!!!

Cupcakes I haven't figured out anything beyond "Ow!!!" either!

Settling in sessions all this week, that's assuming that LO is over the vomiting bug he's managed to pick up over the holiday :(

Think his birthday on Thu will be a quiet affair at home with mummy & daddy, presents, jelly & custard Grin

CreepyCrawly · 06/01/2014 08:42

Happy belated birthday Dan! And happy birthday Dexter!

How scary cejay, glad DD's on the mend. Fingers crossed she's home with you soon.

Sorry about your DH's job lost.

birdies, Nancy doesn't wave either and the only facial expression she copies is the screwing up of the face.

SIL has a hotel so we'll be having a tea party for Nancy there with just family. I've no idea what to get her yet. My plan was to see what she liked at Christmas but she plays with everything so a bit tricky!

Pascha · 06/01/2014 09:06

Ok back home now and eating the remains of birthday cake for breakfast.

cejay so glad your DD is getting better. What a horrible experience for you all.

Dan doesn't really wave. Lots of pointing though. He still doesn't really speak too much, plays around with vowels mostly, tries to copy animal sounds if we prompt him but mostly still quite random vowels and sounds here.

Creepy Daniel is a bit like that with his toys. We got the rocking zebra in the end because we don't have anything else similar here, he seems to like it so thats ok.

Birdies · 06/01/2014 09:12

Mmm birthday cake......

We don't have pointing either though. She says 'baa' when I ask her what a sheep does and 'bag' when I show her her bag, and she babbles a lot. But it's the gestures that aren't there. Have the HV coming out this week so will ask her....

merignue hope he feels better for nursery.

Another question! Does anyone have a hard floor in their lounge? We have a minging old carpet that we're thinking of getting rid of and just having a hard floor of some sort. But is it more dangerous for the LOs when they're still learning to walk?

CreepyCrawly · 06/01/2014 09:36

pascha, I love your zebra. My mum got a similar bee for Nancy but she'll only go on it for two minutes. Could quite happily press it's hand all day to make it sing a spooky rendition of rock a bye baby though Hmm

birdies, we have laminate floor and haven't had any problems yet with her cruising. She's got socks with the little non slip bits too. Hard floors also work well for dragging them back by the waistband when they crawl off Grin

How has everyone done in the storms? My cafe by the beach is almost inaccessible because the road is currently underneath the storm defence!

Pascha · 06/01/2014 10:35

We have hard floor in the kitchen/family room, means he needs help with the walker as it just goes to fast, otherwise Dan just removes his footwear within seconds anyway so no sock problems here. He does have some slipper socks with the moccasin suedey base which seem ok for grip (not that he keeps them on much either Hmm).

Not too much trouble here with the storms, just some fence posts but a lot of standing water, makes getting to town a bit hairy. I've taken to using DHs old Freelander because my little focus can't quite cope.

meringuesnowflakes33 · 06/01/2014 11:46

& happy birthday Dexter!

Another 40 mins of tears at nursery this morning :(

Back for more this afternoon :(

Birdies my parents have really hard tiles throughout and my mum actually got a thud protector helmet for LO (as seen on Dragons Den Grin). As you can imagine, it stayed on all of about two seconds Grin

lollipoppi · 06/01/2014 11:57

Happy birthday dexter and belated birthday dan!

We have carpets now but when DS1 was a baby we had hard flooring, it was never a problem really and you can always pop a couple of rugs down

Not sure what to get DD for her birthday, she is pretty kitted out for clothes and toys from Xmas, I was thinking maybe paying for a swimming course or something similar?

Hangover from hell yesterday after birthday celebrations Hmm it was my first night out drinking since I was pregnant from Darcie, I defo made up for lost time and fell over a wall head first whilst stumbling home Confused

AppleCrumples · 06/01/2014 12:45

Happy birthday Dan and Dexter. Cake for breakfast sounds fab pascha

cupcakes with all mine i have just removed them when they bite, said no biting ans if they do it again then no more boob. Ivy only got the mesage when she bit so hard it felt lije she had gobe through and i nearly shot through the roof!

We have waving but no pointing. she babbles a lot and definietly triesto talk to us but can onlt really say mama and what sounds like hey you Hmm Ds2 tought her to click her tongue too so we all she does that a lot!

birdies we have hideous swirly old lady type carpets throughout but mil has proper hard tiles and all 19 grandchildren seem to have survived it!

Dcs back at school so am madly trying to get house back under control esp as agent coming out to look at damage from the rain.

TinselTugs · 06/01/2014 13:47

Happy birthday Dexter! And Dan for yesterday :)

Cejay your poor DD, hope she is much better now and can come home today. Sounds v scary.

Am back at work today - working from home and really struggling hence on MN! And really missing my DD :( Childminder has sent me pics of her looking very happy though so I know she's ok. Anyone else back at work?

We're having a joint party with one of the NCT girls and then a separate family do. Think we're going to get her a baby keyboard - she played with one at another party the other day and couldn't get her off it.

glorious · 06/01/2014 13:57

We're having a pub lunch with family and local friends for E's birthday.

I'm wondering about a toy kitchen for her birthday as she enjoyed the one she tried last week and it'll be something to grow into. Or would I be mad to get a swing for the garden? She loves swings.

We have hard floors too which does worry me a bit and she does look to get sore knees but no great dramas.

BuntyCollocks · 06/01/2014 15:40

Happy birthday, dan and dexter!

meringuesnowflakes33 · 06/01/2014 15:52

Yay! Afternoon session went better. Still tearful much of the time but was settled on deputy head's lap when I arrived, enjoying horsey horsey.
