As I so frivolously finished the last thread, I thought I'd better start a new one. Go!

thanks for all your kind words about my gran - it is comforting to think that she chose to go when no visitors were there - in fact there was only a short break between the last visitors leaving and us arriving.

happy birthday ivy.

today dd said 'boo' when we were playing peekaboo, does this count as her first word?

she is booked in for her MMR next week; I didn't want it just before Xmas in case of side effects.

bugsyclaus · 01/01/2014 20:08

birdies I'm not planning on stopping bfing just yet but have cut out dd's afternoon bf because I'm going back to work in a couple of weeks. I've started offering an afternoon snack instead.

I reckon if you cut out one feed at a time that would be easiest for both of you, although I'm no expert.

AngelHairAngielka · 01/01/2014 20:21

Happy New Year!

Happy birthday Ivy!

Pascha it took DD1 ages to accept doing poos in a potty/toilet and she always waited until she had her nighttime nappy on. A friend of hers asked for nappies to do hers, and I've heard about loads of kids who have a real problem 'getting it'. I guess if you've always had poo squashed to your buttocks once it's done, it must be a weird sensation to get used to it disappearing into a loo. Sorry, no advice, but DD1 is now totally toilet trained night and day, it just took a while. Good luck!

birdies I am also thinking of cutting down on bfing. I start back at work on Monday and although it's 80% it will be spread over five days. I know you can go staight to cow's milk after the age of one, and I'm planning to go one feed at a time. It was easy with DD1 as she was only having morning and evening by a year unlike Molly who would feed all day every day if I let her I'm still giving Molly about four feeds a day and sometimes a couple at night so will cut out the late morning one first (since during the week she'll be at nursery and getting a snack instead) then the afternoon, then tackle the morning/evening. I think it's the kind of thing that seems very daunting before you start and then it just depends on how the baby takes to it. Like I said, DD1 was easy but i'm a bit nervous about Molly...

I was relying on Molly to wake me for New Year last night as she has been waking at 11/12 every night for the past couple of weeks. Of course last night she slept until 5 with no wake ups. Which of course was great, and if she doesn't do it again tonight I will be well pissed off but how lame is that???

meringuesnowflakes33 · 01/01/2014 20:37

Enjoy the sleep Angie! We were at MIL's, the plan was to settle him in travel cot until after bells, then transition into car seat and go back to where we were staying. Unfortunately LO was up every hour before the bells and ended up seeing in the new year with us. Which was cute, but I am really sick of the non sleeping thing. He is one next week. I would like not to spend evenings singing nursery rhymes in a darkened room!

On a happier note, Happy Birthday Ivy! Cake

Pascha · 01/01/2014 20:37

Happy birthday Ivy Cake and Wine for mummy.

Happy new year everyone. DH is back to work tomorrow so we're getting back into a routine. Downstairs at 7am, breakfast, dress and out the door. No idea where yet but somewhere, even if its in full wet gear and wellies.

Dan's MMR and HIB/MenC booster are booked for 20th Jan. I've got DS1's MMR booster due on 10th Jan but I think he's too young so I'm going to put it off til the summer when he's nearer 4.

MMR used to be given at anywhere between 12-18 months. Then it changed to around 13 months when the HIB/MenC booster was introduced at 12 months. Now they give it together somewhere between 12 and 13 months. I reckon nobody will bat an eyelid if its given a bit later than a year if you aren't sure about it. Just ring the surgery when you get the appointment through and put it off.

DS1 did ok today with potty training. We managed the whole day at grandparents without any accidents but we are still prompting him most times to go. No poo today at all. We shall see.

lollipoppi · 02/01/2014 08:30

I've not booked in for the MMR yet but ds1 is due for his booster so will book them in together, that will be fun!!!

Well DP finally took the plunge last night and proposed to me!!!!! I said yes of course and about fricking time
Ad it's my 30th birthday tomorrow so a pretty eventful week all round GrinGrin

meringuesnowflakes33 · 02/01/2014 08:31

Aw congratulations Lolli! How lovely Grin

TinselTugs · 02/01/2014 09:28

Congratulations Lolli!! That's v exciting! :) :) :) Three of my friends got engaged on NYE as well, must've been something in the air! Shame my DP didn't pick up on it Grin

Happy birthday Ivy for yesterday, hope you all had a lovely time Cake

I was in bed by 12.15 on NYE - just couldn't stay awake any longer. Think it was the fizzy wine. It meant I got a decent sleep and wasn't hungover for the 2 hour drive through v heavy rain and gale force winds back from my sister's so that's a bonus!

Cejay my DD isn't crawling either, or pulling herself up. She was 11 months on Monday. She's bottom shuffling a bit but otherwise quite content sitting on her backside wonder where she gets that from I was a bottom shuffler and didn't walk til I was 20 months, and my mum was too and walked at 18 months, so I guess it just runs in the family... The HV wasn't worried at her 10 month check up. It's just hard when all the other NCT babies are scrabbling around and/or walking already and my little pudding sits there watching them all.

CreepyCrawly · 02/01/2014 11:25

Congratulations lolli! How exciting :)

Pascha · 02/01/2014 13:55

Lovely news Lolli!

Dans present just arrived from Kiddicare. Its sitting there taunting me in its cardboard box. I'm dying to get into it later when the boys have gone to bed.

bugsyclaus · 02/01/2014 15:45

congrats lolli

dd only really started crawling a month ago, when she was 11months. she was quite chunky which I think made it harder to get going. now she is on the move all the time and has slimmed down, she looks more toddler shaped and less like a little round baby iyswim.

LetThereBeCupcakes · 02/01/2014 19:18

Congratulations Lolli! When's the big day? Are we all invited?

Pascha What have you got him? We're a bit stumped for DS now as he got so much for Christmas!

Tugs I think I was in bed by about 9! Was woken up by fireworks at midnight though so technically I saw the New Year in.

I have started a fairly major declutter and deep clean. So far I have managed to get through half of our bedroom - and the rest of the house seems to have turned into a complete tip. Hmm. Not helped by our washing machine breaking down - DH has now fixed it but I have a massive backlog to get through and there's laundry in various states all over the place.

Took DS to the park for the first time today - his nursery were there for a little outing and he was absolutely enthralled to see them! Bless.

Pascha · 02/01/2014 20:16

We went for this rocking zebra in the end because he seems to love sitting on stuff like that and we already have a million ride ons.

Lora1982 · 02/01/2014 23:26

Congratz lolli! I doubt anything so romantic would happen for me dp said he might look into marriage for saving money on tax... romantic.

So ive just got over my most recent obsession... researching and price checking highchairs. We have an old chicco mamma but I wanted one with wheels that turn so its easier to move. I was torn between the new polly and the oldish one with a parent tray I realise how boring I sound but I cant help it!! I got the dinofood one and im very excited.

Also good news for me, mat leave extended yet again because of extra holidays they 'found' so when I go back on the 26th I'll of had 1 yr 1 month 1 week and 1 day tremendous achievement :-D

Are you all jjustdoing mini family cake partys? We'll probably go out for an hour or two then have family round in the evening.

lollipoppi · 03/01/2014 08:37

Of course your all invited Grin there will be many celebrations this weekend as it's my 30th today, I don't think my liver knows what's in store!!!
No date setting just yet, I'd love to just bugger off and do it abroad bit I doubt that would go down well with the fam!

Pascha I love that rocking horse!

Cupcakes, I love a good de-clutter, but always find you have to make a huge mess to tidy Smile

Lora that's lovely about te extended maternity leave, your company sounds fab!!

Lostbaubles · 03/01/2014 19:27

Happy Birthday Lolli and congrats on your engagement. ThanksThanks I would defo do it abroad if I was to do it all again. In fact I have a 10yr anniversary plan to renew vows in Vegas Smile roll on 2015 Wink

Good and bad news here, DH co has lost the contract he's been working on so will be given notice any day now. Hmm May have to go work abroad for 3-6 months while the contract goes to re-tender. HmmHmm

Good news DD2 finally cracked standing from the floor, so is now well and truly off. Very proud mummy moment GrinGrin

Birdies, I have already introduced a cup of cows milk once/twice a day and trying to reduce BF to just eve and very early morning and more often than not middle of the night
There is medication I want to try but can't until not BF so aiming to completely stop within next couple of months at longest.

glorious · 03/01/2014 19:51

wow lolli congratulations! I wasn't keen on my 30th (July just gone) so I hope the engagement takes your mind off it if required!

Well done minilost. No denying it now, they're toddlers!

tugs E was the pudding of our NCT group and then just got it all at once. I felt quite left out on her behalf in the end as she was always sitting with me and they were off having adventures. But she was happy... now she's frustrated to discover lots of things are out of bounds! Grin

Sleep still dire and I was starting to be no good in the day. Been doing NCSS stuff for months with little impact so started gradual retreat last night. I'm not keen really but it's been fine - 5 mins outraged protest last night then another 20 of intermittent grizzling. Tonight a tiny grizzle and asleep within 5 mins Shock Not night weaning as yet but looking to cut feeds back to 4 hourly at most. Wish me luck!

Cejay8 · 03/01/2014 19:52

Lovely to see your news Lolli; how exciting Smile. Congratulations.

Dd has been in hospital the past couple of days Hmm last night in there was probably one if the worst nights of my life. DH is doing tonight's shift so I can try to get some sleep and see DS. Dd was struggling to breathe, wheezing like she's smoking 80/day. She had bronchiolitis 3 weeks ago which resulted in an overnighter at hospital on a nebuliser so we thought this was similar. But the hourly nebuliser wasn't helping this time so she's been on intravenous steroids and antibiotics since yesterday and they seem to be helping her now. It's horrid watching her suffering and she's so overtired and can't settle.... But I think she's breathing more easily now so praying she can come home soon. 2 incidents in 3 weeks is too much; we ended up in the same ward, in the same bed! Hate winter!

glorious · 03/01/2014 21:36

Oh no cejay Sad Sending lots of get well soon vibes to DD.

I meant to say sorry about DP'S job lost. Do you know where abroad he'd be?

TheHollyandtheIvyCrumples · 03/01/2014 22:35

cejay poor dd. hope she is on the mend. hope you're ok that must all be hard going Flowers

Congrats lolli and happy birthday!

glorious Ivy is pretty frustrated too, defintely turning into a toddler ...complete with little tantrums when we stop her from going where she wants.

Little monkey keeps attacking ds1, think hes her favourite :) they do have a sweet relationship.

Lostbaubles · 03/01/2014 23:25

Gosh Cejay so sorry to read, wish her speedy recovery. It's just awful seeing them so poorly. Do they think is viral or asthma related? Xx

salt1 · 04/01/2014 06:17

congrats lolli xx

cant remember who was asking about reducing breastfeeding but i have found kellymom website to be helpful x

salt1 · 04/01/2014 06:59

poor you cejay. hope things are improving.

hope you are coping ok too lost

AngelHairAngielka · 04/01/2014 12:46

congrats and happy birthday lolli!

Poor you cejay and your DD - I really hope things get better quickly

Sorry about DH's job lost but well done to DD for the standing!

glorious congrats on the getting to sleep progress! Molly's still waking twice a night for feeding again, so I've decided to try out a bit of milk in a sippy cup during the day and after trying it this mornig, she was pretty accepting. I bf her on waking, but mid-morning when she would usually bf again I gave her the cup and a bit of fruit and she forgot about the bfing. I'm away with work two nights next week so the idea if that DH offers the milk in a cup when she wakes and that by the time I'm back she's sleeping through again Hmm Grin

Oh and Molly is also getting frustrated. Glad to hear she's not the only tantruming almost one-year-old!!

lollipoppi · 04/01/2014 13:45

Thanks everyone!

Cejay sorry about your DD how is she doing now? Hope you managed I get some sleep last night while DH was on duty

Lost that's crappy about your DH job hope he doesn't have to go and work abroad, but congrats on the walking!!
