ChaCha · 12/06/2006 21:25

I'm heading to bed, these early morning and the heat knock me out.

A good night's sleep will make the world of difference. I don't know about you guys but when I'm tired EVERYTHING is a major drama in this house.

Weaning: Oh, brocolli and cauli pureed together was a bit of a miss and poor little boy 'fluffed' for England all afternoon. Was v.happy with his carrot and pea mix for dinner though. Is it ok to freeze fruit puree? Is a bit of a faff doing apples, pears etc.. every morning. I also noticed in AK's book that there is no snowflake for freezing carrot and pea mix so there goes my big batch!!! Grrr..

Got dentist tomorrow and DH's holiday shopping to do (double grrrr...) see you all later x

ChaCha · 12/06/2006 21:30

Cross posts - Yes you are right Diege. That is important too I'm sure, my social activities are limited to coffee mornings with other mums, the odd dinner out or get togethers at home. Still - is always refreshing to some extent.
Quick question pls, just remembered, what colour of headscarf matches light blue and brown. Light blue being skirt and shirt colour, brown being top, shoes, bag colour? Brown? Blue? Something different. Thanks

browniechick · 12/06/2006 21:33

Hello All!
Welcome Wrinkly - hope you stay around, we are a very friendly bunch - one of the nicest on MN it has been said!!! Wink Only have one myself, but as other have said, there are plenty of our other Nov Mums that have first hand experience of more than 1 lo.
BoB - I personally think you are well within your rights to have a darn good moan - and you go for it girl! How come men seem to think that the sacrifices always have to be made by the Mummies?! If you would both have gone to the concert pre-Oskar, then surely it should have been a mutual discussion and decision about which one of you went this time? (then the other one could have gone out next time) Just a thought.....
Nova Envy at you with an air con unit! It has got as high as 29 in Thomas's room this week, he sleeps in his grobag with justa nappy on and I have a floor standing fan in the room, which I leave going all night - he is managing to sleep which is something!
Am hoping we have cracked this sleeping through the night thing - he has stopped waking for a feed at least - he now wakes sometimes but goes straight back off if you put a dummy in his mouth.
He is sitting up quite well on his own now, and I think he is around 20lb (this is a rough guestimate, as can't get him wieghed regularly cos clinic is on Thurs when T is at nursery & I am at work!!) Did a quick guess today by standing on our bathroom scales, then holding T and taking the difference as a rough guide to his approx weight!
Anyone else started using the second stage car seat yet? i.e. not the infant carrier stylie ones?? I think T should be fine in it, as he looks too big for his infant carrier, and he sits quite well, and has supported his head and neck for months.
Anyway, am gonna get an early night tonight - these 6:30 starts are a killer!! Grin
Nighty night
Brownie & Thomas

LaylaandSethsmum · 12/06/2006 21:40

HI all
Well fish is now at peace!! DH put it out of its misery. Yuk!!!
Welcome Wrinkly stay around you'll find we're all great !!(BTW who was it said that we were the friendliest thread on MN?)

Seth didn't settle till nearly 9 pm tonight. Hoping its just the heat!Don't want to start that palarva (sp?)Thankfully L slept through it.

Brownie. SEth has gone into his big car seat today and seems fine much more comfy as he was getting squashed in his other one.

Off to have a shower as all hot and stinky!!Smile

Oh AF returned yesterday aswell yuk!! Forgot how the first one can be so messy ( maybe tmi sorry!!)Grinxxx

BEKsmum · 12/06/2006 21:48

Hi girls

Bob sorry you're feeling crap, but very wise words from Chacha there. If it helps everyone goes through this stage, when things come up that you would have gone to at a drop of a hat before. Just don't resent you dp too much as you'll never change him, as men just don't get it when it comes to this sort of thing in parenting, it's best to just try and reach a compromise.

Rodeo pmsl at Joe and the tampax - classic Grin

Nova glad the dr agrees with the chain of thought on here, your hv was definitely talking out of her butt - Nat is no bigger than any of the others on here, stick with us kid we know what we're talking about. Wink glad you had a great holiday by the way

Diege welcome back you jammy monkey, how fantastic was the weather while you were away.

Welcome aboard Wrinklytum, love the name by the way, hope you won't be offended when we shorten you to wrinkly Smile I've got a 4 year old ds as well as my lo (another ds) and can sympathise with the tantrums as we're just getting over them. Don't feel guilty about not being able to give the older one enough attention, just try to make sure what you do give is quality time when you can give it i.e. make special times in the day if you can like when your lo is asleep for sticking, painting, playing etc - sod the housework it will wait and then perhaps at bed time make sure you read the stories or give the bath and try to get your dh/p to look after the little one if that's possible. Obviously I'm guessing about that until we get to know you better. Another one I've been working onis getting the older one to interact with the lo, our favourite game at the moment is blowing raspberries, it's now how the lo gets his big brothers attention.

Just remember this is the hardest few months and you are doing a fantastic job, your ds would be behaving like this anyway whether or not you had the baby as boys have a massive surge of testosterone at around 3 and think they can take on the world, so take heart and let off steam on here and repeat after me "I am a great mum" 20 times.

Just to make you all laugh, it's official my last remaining brain cell has finally trickled out of my ea. I got Ben ready for pre-school today, called the dad of his best mate wondering why she was late, knocked at their door no answer, thought hope nothing's wrong but I'm gonna be late only to get to the school and realise it was an inset day and it was closed Grin Blush Grin Thankfully I was in the car so could just pull away again - how embarrassing is that - lol

Right off to get a drink and to cool down as it's 30 degrees in our room at them moment - BRING ON THE RAIN. Hope you are all well. Beks

Diege · 12/06/2006 22:14

Oh BEKS I shouldn't laugh but HA HA HA!!!!!Grin; yes, your final brain cell has gone WinkAt least you could speed off!!!
Hmm CHACHA, re: scarf colours maybe white or (give it some thought), a sort of burnt orange colour really does go well with pale blue and brown, but depends if you 'do' colours Smilebtw you are good with your purreeing! I tended to use jars with the fruit, just because it can get really messy. Have to say it'sa relief that L is now mving onto what the rest of us are eating, though means we have to eat more healthily too!! BTW, d'you think quorn is OK for a baby? Am I mad to even think of giving her it??
Nostalgic moment this afternoon...clicked onto old thread, with discussions about baby movements (on the inside!!),and what foods we fancied!! Can't wait till one of us gets pregnant again so we can all 'live it' again!!! Come on girls!!!
Not heard from RODEO tonight - hope you and family are OK Smile

novadandypowder · 13/06/2006 09:38

chacha - you can freeze carrot and stuff with peas in so don't see why you can't freeze pea and carrot together. Don't throw it away!!! Fine to freeze fruit too, although I find the Organix pots save my freezer.

back later x

diddle · 13/06/2006 09:44

Beksmum - got your message on the due in June thread, thank you so much. Love the babydust comment, you're so right, we've done all we can to make this baby stick. Its definitly staying in, very comfy in there i think.
Hope you and your family are doing well, and thank you so much for remembering me.

tessasmum · 13/06/2006 10:19

Warning - rant alert - there may be swearing!!!
Stupid, stupid SiL. Took Tessa to her allotment yesterday afternoon. Saw me smother every available surface in suncream (and add hat) before thay went but let Tessa take her t-shirt off whilst she was there. Hence burnt shoulders and back Sad AngryAngry

Nothing said when they came back, Dh found the evidence when he gave her a shower before bed.
I was really angry last night but have calmed down a bit since. Am I over-reacting? DH, with his Mediterrean colouring, looked a bit bemused by it all!

Will post properly later.

Rodeo · 13/06/2006 10:58

Morning,

Just a quickie as I've got to do a bit of shopping before picking ds up from playgroup......
Nova, THANK YOU!!! They came today and are gorgeous!! Don't want to give anything away but there may be a package for you when you get home Diege Grin
Tessasmum, oh poor Tessa, I would be fuming too Angry, some people just don't realise the strenth of the sun.... I went on holiday with my best friend's family when I was 6 and got burnt to a crisp, it hurt for weeks.... hope it calms down soon, are you putting anything on it?
Bob, sorry you had a stressful day, I rarely leave our suburb on my own with children as it's too stressful, and avoid public transport at all costs if I've got children with me! Not easy for you living in London though. Hope you're feeling better this morning - hangover-free! Hope dp is suffering Grin
Diddle, great to hear from you! I did have a peek on the Due in June thread and noticed you were overdue :) Wishing you all the best! I'll copy this to your thread in case you miss it!
Wwlcome to wrinklytum! Hope you stick around, will speak more later! Bye! x x x

tessasmum · 13/06/2006 11:23

OK, not a good day here, just found things crawling in Tessa's hair ShockShock

For those with bigger ones, what's the current recommendation to get rid of beasties?

Diege · 13/06/2006 11:34

Morning everyone!!! Smile ooh a package RODEO...how mysterious..Grin...will rush home even faster than usual!!!
TESSA: yep you deserve a good rant I'd say; def. mention it to them, even if just to stop it happening again!! Re: beasties, touch wood haven't had these with dds yet, though I hear that the herbal remedies are falling out of favour apparetnly (ie, tea-tree oil and the like). Friends say you need to physically extract the things too with a comb - you can get the electric shock ones apparently Shock, but thing normal ones will do. Good luck!!!
Right, best go and do some work - really gets in the way of life!!
Speak later!
Diege x

wrinklytum · 13/06/2006 11:54

Hello girls thanks for lovely welcome.Have to say reading the thread for the last couple of days has cheered me no end.Absolutely helpless with laughter at the tampax story.ds recently pulled my trousers down whilst we were walking down the street (me pushing buggy with dd whilst doing train noises and ds clutching onto me pretending to be a carraige).Oh the embarrassment esp as had horrid old granny knickers on!!!The joys of children eh.Also was on the bus recently and there was a amputee.Cue ds very loudly "Mummy wheres that mans arm gone?" luckily the guy grinned hugely whilst i tried to explain.

Tessasmum I do believe there is something called "Lyclear" you can get for the creepy crawly situation.HTH

Anyway just a quick post to thank you for your welcome.DD has just settled after all morning grumbling and grizzling and ds is safely ensconced at nursery so Id best get some housework done

novadandypowder · 13/06/2006 12:22

I'm back, Nat is sleeping in her buggy after swimming and I can't be arsed to move her into her cot so she'll have to make do.

I think it may have been us that claimed to be the friendliest thread on MN Wink. Think there may be a few ex-members who disagree Wink Wink

Diege - burnt orange for Chacha sounds great. You missed your true vocation in life Grin

Rodeo Grin

Re: car seats, think 'they' say to keep them in the rear facing ones as long as poss as it's safer for them. We're thinking about the next size up for naddy but she's ok in the other one for now.

BEKsmum · 13/06/2006 13:32

Hi ya

Tessa we've only had the threat of beasties before but I got some Full Marks moouse{sp?} for all of us as dh has really long hair and would not have been impressed - it's easy to use and pretty effective I think. If you can't get out today to get some the other trick is to smother the hair in conditioner and then comb them out on to paper, the conditioner sedates them apparently!
Angry for you re sil, I too had 3rd degree burns on my arm after going on holiday with a friends parents and being egged on by the older girls to put baby oil on so I'd go browner - I now have to keep that arm covered all the time. So I'd definitely mention it to her just so that it doesn't happen again.

Wrinkly Blush for you, kids don't you just love 'em!Smile

Chacha hooray it's been raining, I want more and more and more Grin Re the meet up on the 20th I think someone mentioned St James Park if it's nice - isn't that the one opposite Buckingham Palace? Man I'm rubbish at things like this - someone come up with some suggestions please, I might only live 12 miles from London but it might as well be the other side of the world.

Right I'm supposed to be tidying while Thomas is asleep, so I'd better go and get on with it. Speak to you all later Beks

yorkshirepuddling · 13/06/2006 13:34

Hi Girls

I'm so sorry I went back to work and haven't seen the inside of the house never mind pc for weeks it seems. Quick update Holly has two teeth and has started sitting up. I'm off to work now but promise to catch up with you all tonight.

Yorkshire and Holly

Rodeo · 13/06/2006 14:10

Afternoon! :)

Oh Tessasmum poor Tess! Bella got nits a few times last year and used a variety of products on her hair. The best by far was a brilliant comb which got everything out \link{http://www.nittygritty.co.uk/ng/index.jsp?page=/productInfo.jsp&productId=3\Look here!}. I usd it on her hair dry, as her hair is really fine and the other cheaper combs just didn't work or you can use it on wet hair with loads of conditioner. The full marks stuff didn't kill the eggs (don't think many products do anymore - they've become hardy little blighters!) so we had a 'reinfestation' (yuk!) 10 days later. But the comb prevailed! Sorry to go on about it, it's one of my favourite topics and consider myself an expert Wink
Funny the carseat subject has come up today - was looking in mothercare at them earlier, they're all so wide! Quite like the look of the bebe comfort 'iseos'(sp?) but haven't read a review, the maxi-cosi priori always get good write ups so will go for one of those if the bebe comfort one is rubbish!
Don't forget - First Fathers Days are coming up on Sunday for a few of our dads! Have any babies got their daddies anything yet?! :)
Diege - can you leave any earlier??!!

Diege · 13/06/2006 14:27

LOL RODEO, wish I could but I've already skived out for a subway Grinand was 'caught' reading my book earlier too ('Diary of a manhattan call girl', really good!)so am being 'watched'!!. Feeling really itchy now after looking at comb link!! Wonder how long my lot can get away with it!
BTW, wish I could come to London meet-up!! Fond memories of the last, though still shudder at memories of crying baby on train!! I'm actually in the big smoke that week for work (22-23rd)(in Kensington somewhere?, some big hotel (Regents??). Pity it's not the 20th Sad.
Right, better look busy,
Diege Smile

Rodeo · 13/06/2006 14:48

Isn't Nova somewhere near Kensington? I bet she'd like to meet you for a coffee :)
Beks - stop with your raindance!! I can't get any washing dried! How's the tidying doing? I've just finished for today, Joe's with his cousin, and Jes is having a nap - it's strangely quiet round here, better make the most of it - hometime soon :)

Rodeo · 13/06/2006 14:50

Oh and wrinkly tum, glad your sticking around! What are your children's names? And whereabouts are you from? I'll try to find a list of us all for you too :)

Rodeo · 13/06/2006 14:54

Here you go Wrinklytum - here's a link to our stat's list - add yours if you like :)

\link{http://mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=2330&threadid=151972&stamp=060330071536\November 05 babie's stats list}

Diege · 13/06/2006 15:09

Right, last post this afternoon or I'll get sacked! Just checked where I am in London - in Euston from afternoon of the 22nd, and in Kensignton (Queen's Gate?) in Regency hotel from 10am on 23rd. Not knowing London, could be that I end up sitting in a cafe somewhere 5 mins from one of you!! long shot I know!!! Just looking forward to a good night's sleep actually!! Blush, poor dds!!!

Karmamother · 13/06/2006 18:20

Hi all. Once again, unable to read all the posts since I last visited MN.

Just read a few & had a good laugh at Rodoe's Joe & the Tampax episode. Top hoots all round!

Couldn't tell whether Enthusia was pg or not in the end.

Tessasmum, it's inevitable that nits will descend upon your house at some point. If you're worried about using pesticides you can do it the long way...put loads of conditioner & comb them out with a nit-comb. But remember to tie your hair up out of the way whilst you're doing it, just in case!

Beks, you'll be glad that rain is forecast!! Oooh, actually it's just started raining here. Must get the guinea pigs in before they drown!!

Welcome to wrinklytum. Great name, by the way.

Short update. Ella has a tooth & can sit unaided with just the occasional wobble. Favourite pastime is bouncing & swinging in her door bouncer. She bounces forwards then lifts her feet up to swing back, whilst giggling very loudly.

Hope everyone else well. Sorry I can't make it to the meet on the 20th but I'm sure you'll all have a fab time.

Karmamother · 13/06/2006 18:22

By the way, has anyone else noticed that when you mix pureed carrot & broccoli, it looks just like baby poo??

BEKsmum · 13/06/2006 18:53

Hi all, just a quickie as off to a new parent evening at Ben's primary school [proud mummy emoticon] Think I get his book bag tonight {sits sniffling in the corner, wondering where her baby went}

Karma good to see you, Ella sounds fab and glad to see you left us with a nice image in your last post Grin Are you up for a chat one night this week.

Diege, shame you can't make the 20th, would have been good to see you again. Bet you can't move your work forward can you?

Rodeo I'm dancing round the bedroom as we speak, bet I get soaked walking back from the school tonight - will serve me right I suppose. My brother came back from two weeks with my mum & dad today and I've been telling him how great the weather has been, he thinks I've been winding him up Grin

Got all my tidying done so house now looks less like a bomb has gone off. Generally lasts two minutes as Ben thinks a clear bit of floor needs filling with toys asap.

The boys have bough their dad, dvd's and pj's so far, might come up with something else yet, well see.

Right off to put some slap on, speak to you all tomorrow Beks
