hi all firstly Happy 31st Birthday to me mad to think I was pregnant this time last year, homeless and Abbie had just started walking.

Rach - hi good to hear from you, glad to hear nursery is going well too. I keep thinking T is dropping feeds too but I suppose it sorts itself out.

Iris - many congrats to your DD with the trousers and cotton nappies thing I found Nxxt horrendous unless you go a size up, H&M and Tesco are really good. Well they are for girls Tesco trousers have elasticated waists you can let out too. Bamboozles are fab, I still lust after cloth nappies. My problem is the opposite now Abbie is in bog girl pants during the day all her skirts/trousers fall down (these are 12-18 months as well).

Hi to everyone else too

I only have the cold left here now, T's poos have sorted themselves out now which is great. Best get on ans start dinner I suppose. Take care x

Just had to abandon a trip to Sainsburys got about 2 miles down the road and there was the most awful graunching noise from the front wheel. Drove very carefully home (amidst more noises every time I went over a bump or turned the wheel & now there are ball bearings all over the drive!!!! Grateful that DH gets home today as I really can't be arsed dealing with this today (Dom was up on&off since 4 & i got a load of nappies out the washing machine this morning to discover that I'd loaded one complete with poo filled linergrrrrrr)on e lighter note though.....

Congratulations Sweetkitty!!!!! hope you had a fab day with lots of lovely prezzies. Did you do anything special?

WTWTA/Chuffed thanks for the nappy tips. I think I just like Doms clothes to be on the baggy side (well, baggier than they are anyway!)
.... talking of whom - i hear a grizzle from the playpen best go. Have good days all.

wherethewildthingsare · 23/08/2006 10:13

Happy Birthday Sweetkitty! Hope you had a good day and were spoilt rotten!

wherethewildthingsare · 23/08/2006 22:32

think i'll go and eat worms.

hope ur all ok!

Eshay · 27/08/2006 21:41

Hi Nappies,

Cluck cluck cluck Here's a hug from me for you. A very big one. And how about a nice hot chocolate with a bit of cinnamon on top? Would that help a bit? I think we all understand how hard it is to keep up with everyone's news and stories and I don't think it's expected or frowned upon if you don't so don't beat yourself up about not being on here every day. (I have quite a bit to catch up on myself but will do so another time.) Being a mum is hard enough as it is, especially when we're struggling to get a good night's rest. I'm afraid I can't give you an instant solution. A virtual hug will have to make do for now. Keep trying, things will get better. I usually find it helpful to remind myself everything is a phase and things will improve. Good luck. x

loomer · 27/08/2006 21:57

Oh Nappies, please don't beat yourself up... so sorry that you're feeling crap, remember we all have our textbook 'failings', I certainly know that I can't get Scarlett to do everything that she 'should' be doing right now. Big virtual hugs, leave the worms alone hun - try a nice big bar of Galaxy instead?

Rachey - loving those pics of Finn, he looks a right little character!

Nappies - big hugs honey (((((xxx))))))- I really do sympathise; I'm having similar problems with Dom at the mo (doesn't help that DH is away, DD working stupid shifts & Dom's a blotchy, itchy, miserable mess again). Be thinking of you at nights now . You've got other LOs too so no wonder you're feeling it! Be kind to yourself lovely xx

NappiesGalore · 28/08/2006 09:13

hey, thanks for that link Rach. ihave done lots of printing out and decreeing to all adults ever likely to be taking care of Gus thatBLW is now the only way i will have him fed. hurrah.

Gus is chuffed to bits with the development. (i did give him finger food b4, but didnt have the reasoning to bck up my approach and so, to convince dp that (often force)spoon-feeding was not the way to go.

hes agreat little crawler now, BTW (Gus, not dp) and v pleased with his ability to pull himself up to standing and sit in the bath with his (not so) big brothers. quite the little character.

no teeth yet tho. delights of teeting still to come

sheepish (coz i feel guilty for not keeping up with u all) hellos to you all and your various broods xxxxx

NappiesGalore · 28/08/2006 09:20

awwww, thanks girls, just read your messages and they brought a tear to my eye. shucks

poppiesmum · 28/08/2006 09:34

Hello. Am new to MN and just found this thread. My dd was born 12th Jan so I'll be watching this one from now on!

NappiesGalore · 29/08/2006 17:46

hello poppiesmum. welcome

sweetkitty · 30/08/2006 21:27

hi poppiesmum - welcome to our little thread, give us your vital stats, name of your LO, weight, birth story, what she's up to now etc we love to know.

Nappies - you sound really down honey you ok?

Sunday night was a bad one for me too, T's night went as follows: 9pm went to bed with a BF, 10.30pm woke up only BF would settle, then the night went like this, 12am, 2.30am, 5am and awake at 7am. I'm shattered the past few nights have been much of the same. She's refusing a dummy now too and only boob will do for the little madam! During the day on a good day we will get an hours sleep in total if we are lucky sometimes it's as little as 20 mins, she hasn't read all the baby books 14-15 hours sleep huh! she gets less sleep than her 2.1 yo sister. Good thing she is generally good natured throughout the day.

Had the two of them weighed the other day Abbie is 22lbs, Talia is 19.5lbs it's a good thing though as this morning I found Abbie sitting on Talia singing "row your boat" holding T's hands and T was laughing her head off.

Hope everyone else and their LOs are doing well. Take care xx

wherethewildthingsare · 31/08/2006 10:00

Hi everyone

Argh, back in work and its starting to pile up - I have to go away to Liverpool for 2 days in a couple of weeks, not sure what I'm going to do with my boobs

We went to see the Rolling Stones on tuesday - there were grannies there with their grandkids! I've never seen such an age range for a concert, i'm not a huge fan but thought it would be a great night out and it was fab, also saw the Kooks which should raise my street cred

Typically Finn woke up that day with a gungy ear and I'm annoyed with myself now that I let him have antibiotics just to give me peace of mind so I could go out and leave him (only second time with dp in the dark!) he was absolutely fine though, no temp, no tears.

Nappiesgalore - feel free to rant and rave on here! Don't beat yourself up. I think we all empathise, when Finn is playing up, I remind myself that we used to have 3 like that. Honestly BLW is the way to go, especially if you have other kids - just cook one meal, bang it on the table, sit round like a load of chimps and get stuck in! Finn loves roast chicken (chunks of thigh is good) with roast veggies - sweet potato, parsnip, carrots etc (keep the skin on and they kinda stuck the middle out).

Sweetkitty - poor you, I hope you are getting some rest in between (I can remember driving till the little darlings fell asleep, parking up and reading a book with a bar of chocolate!) Finn was 19lb 8 yesterday at his 7 month check, still on 75th centile for height and head and just under it for weight, I think he burns it up.

Iris - do you know what is affecting poor Dom?

Welcome Poppiesmum!

lilstarry1 · 31/08/2006 11:37

Hello! Long time no type - I've been coming on weekly to read about everyone but just not finding the time/energy to post my love, thoughts and musings!

Sorry to hear that some of you are down... I agree with everyone, it is so hard some days! I couldn't possibly comment on everything I've missed - but hello to the newbies, get well to the poorlies, and big hugs to those who are feeling down.

You'd think I'd have so much to update on wouldn't you, but I just don't know where time has flown! . Bee started crawling (well army-style commando shuffling) just before her 7month birthday, and is now exceptionally pleased with her mobility. She's started sleeping through the night, but we've realised that she is better when she gets enough sleep during the day. The other night was awful and we think it was because she was overtired... EEK. She's still completely toothless, much to many peoples delight/shock, personally I'm loving her gummy smiles and pain-free BF.

I'm fine too, feeling a bit run down these last few weeks, no idea why but the change in weather and the extra sleep seem to have taken their toll (odd, I know!). Am flying to Gran-Canaria in less than two weeks, which will be nice, albeit slightly scary! Have been giving serious thought to my future and whether or not returning to Uni is worth it at this moment in time, it seems so difficult to get her into childcare that is flexible and not full time. I've absolutely no idea where to start, and every time I think about it I get a little nervous. Am leaving it until after my holiday to sort out .

I hope everyone else is well, those of you with school children - I hope you enjoyed the summer holidays I will endeavour to post more! I'm often on my laptop, but just seem to do meaningless stuff! Silly me!

Love and stars to you all xxx

barrelrider · 31/08/2006 12:53

Hi all, also long time no speak!

Welcome to poppiesmum and Sal Lovely to see newbies as always.

Well things have been a bit strange here. I wrote last time that I was really struggling to control my alcohol intake. I took the plunge and spoke to my gp who has said I need to speak to someone if I can't sort it out in the next 3 weeks. So that was good, it's kind of given me a kick. I went to the gym on tues and didn't drink anything that evening. Major breakthrough!!!!! And am even contemplating doing the same tonight The doc says what I'm going through is classic PND, I don't like to label things but in this case it appeases the guilt. What a nightmare the past few months have been!! And yet how lovely, with a beautiful son.

Anyway, update on Dominic. Just turned 7 months. Has a tooth, doing very well on food but being sick a lot. He is trying to crawl, getting on his knees and rocking. Yesterday moved backward across the lounge by pushing with his arms. Looked so funny!! And he laughed all the way, he's got a great sense of humour!! Weighs around 20lbs, chunky but not fat, beautiful heart shaped face and crew cut! He is really really cuddly, really snuggles in. What a doll.

Can't believe how old the babies are getting! Dominic nowhere near standing yet, can't sit up for very long. I sometimes worry his physical devt is slow but he makes up for that with the da-da-blah-blah-ee-ee-tthhhhhh chattering, which I think is good for his age! And so sociable and happy!!

Rachel, Finn is lovely!!

SK, hi, hope all OK. Talia doesn't sound as big as D any more, they were similar all along til now!

NG, if you ever fancy a get together I think you're quite local to me..I don't know how you could leave me a message though?! Haven't subscribed to the private message thingy. On the sleeping issues with Gus, hope that gets better soon.

Love and hugs to allxxx

Well done Barrel and OMG gym?? I shuffel quickly past my gym trying not to feel too guilty lol!!

I wouldn't worry about any part of development . . it doesnt sound like its majorly lacking . . gues each baby just develops at different rates! On the same kinda note, I went into work last week to see old friends and a friend who had a baby 4mths after me was busy telling me how her son can fully crawl, sleeps right through, eats anything blah blah!!

You have any pics of Dominic? He sounds gorgeous!

Some pics of Imo here if anyone wants a peak! -s3.photobucket.com/albums/y59/llysa_r/Imogen/

Anyway . . guess I should go clean while she naps . . . or maybe just a quick lay down

poppiesmum · 31/08/2006 16:29

Hi - thanks for the welcoming messgaes!

Just a bit of info then ...

Dd Poppy was born weighing 8lb 4.5oz (I remember that half ounce!) 3 hours after we got to the hospital - so very quick but equally as painful! She now has 2 teeth and is considering crawling! (She gets on to all 4's and then goes into reverse!)

Started weaning at 17 weeks as she wasn't gaining weight, and she hasn't found anything she doesn't like yet! Am running a bit short on food inspiration for her, so any good recipes would be greatfully received!

HeyThereGeorgieGirl · 31/08/2006 18:40

This is going to be a power post and a half as i haven't a chance in hell of catching up with everyone. Hope you're sitting comfortably because here I go....

Me, DH, Moo, Libs and Ma and Pa spent a week in Brittany in mobile home. Supposed to be lovely Brucey bonus type holiday. Dear god what a mistake....Rained for 5 out of 7 days. Mollie complete stroppy madam for some reason. Campsite was full of scary looking chavvy teenagers (I am such a wimp). And some Frech w8nkers decided that it would be hilarious to slash our car tyre. We've got a Volvo 4x4 (yes, v bad I know) and trying to get damn tyre was just a joke. £500 quid and 2 new tyres later we were able to drive home.

We made the decision at the beg of summer that we'd try and sell the house as we want to move out to Weybrdige. Found great house (have already mentally decorated it ). Can we sell ours, can we buffalo! People are so fussy round here. Am going mad stuffing things into wardrobes and under beds every day because people want to come and see it. But am being very zen and what will be will be.

Moo starts school next thurs. Went to get her uniform today and almost wept in the shop. I can't beleive she's going to be 5 in a couple of weeks.

Libs is a complete star. Wolfs down her food. . Made us all fishcakes last night and she ate more the her big sis . Not sure how much she weighs. Pretty chunky and long though. She's got lovely blue eyes (like her daddy) and strawberry blondish hair and the cutest little pixie chin. Shes sleeping from 6.30pm to 7ish am. Sitting up like a pro and desperate to walk. Will 'walk' for a short distance when I hold her hands. Still refuses to roll. If she falls on her back she just lies there like a beached whale and hollers! Trying to crawl. Prob another 3 weeks and she should have it.

DH and I celebrate out 1st wedding anniversary on Saturday. He's booked a room at the Met Hotel and a table at Angela Hartnetts restaurants (she's Gordon Ramseys wunderkid). Can't bloody wait. Will be all over that boy like a rash .

Once Mollie's at school am hitting gym with a vengance. Gone sporadically over summer but diff with 2 of them and trying to get creche places. All lumpy bits will be banished by Christmas.

Right. That's enough banging on from me.

SK - hope things settle down for you and T. Any thoughts what could be unsettling her? Just a phase I hope. And happy belated birthday. Hope you ar least got a cup of tea in bed .

Iris - yeeee haaaaa for DD. But boo for poor old Dom. He's obviously a senstive lad.

Rach - bless that little man of yours. How happy can one chap look!!

Hi to all the newbies. Nice to have you on board.

NG - hugs to you my love. Can totally empathise. And finally managed to get a bottle of Dior Plasticity. Wow. It DOES work!

B'rider - One day at a time. Labels sometimes do help. Had PND and remember feeling so relieved when I know what it was and that I wasn't just going barking mad (not that you are BTW).

Power post my arse

Laters, G xx

loomer · 31/08/2006 20:47

Jesus, where did you all come from all of a sudden?
Isn't it strange how everyone posts at once when we've been so quiet for ages?

Welcome to the newbies - Sal, we have some pics posted on a Yahoo group site, if you want to take a look or add yours - the link is here , but you need to sign up/in to view it, and I can't remember how you go about doing that - can anyone else? Perhaps not such a useful thing to point out to you after all! I did take a peek at your pics of Imogen, what a cutie! She looks like a happy little soul, I'm loving that long wavy fringe...

Barrelrider, glad you're getting on top of the drinking... you sound really in love with Dominic, not surprising really I guess. I have no idea what PND is like, but hope you can sort things out fairly painlessly (although I guess not likely if you're down the gym every night !

Sweetkitty, really feeling for you, I remember when Scarlett was waking every couple of hours (thankfully she seems to be over it now), and it is SO exhausting... I think there is definitely a link between good daytime naps and good nighttime sleeping, in my experience (limited though that is). Scarlett didn't really get sorted at night until I got her daytime routine set in place and 'trained' her into napping properly. Am still awaiting the first night where she sleeps for eleven hours however - wouldn't that be just fabulous?!

Georgie, I'm v. jealous of your anniversary plans - it's our 4th anniversary today and I am currently waiting on DH returning home from his workshop for a Ruby Murray, hopefully at some point before 9pm, oh and also awaiting the Tesco delivery - how romantic!! Still, we did have a nice day out at the beach, and lunch at a nice (but not prestigious) cafe... the crab was very fresh and very delicious, but I don't think it would match up to your meal somehow!

Since everyone is getting all developmental, here's Scarlett's latest news: Still only two teeth, but I think the top two are fairly imminent. Still not crawling, nor showing any signs of getting interested, she hates being on her tummy for more than a minute. But she does love standing up and bouncing in her door bouncer, so I guess she might just cut straight to walking. She has some very babbly days and some very quiet ones, but I love it most when she's babbling and trying to copy my mouth movements. She's rapidly losing interest in eating mush, and is mostly wanting to put big lumps of stuff (banana, pitta bread, avocado) in her gob for voracious munching/gumming. Most entertaining.

That's all for now then, hope I don't kill the thread again!
