i only boil water for ds formula....he has drinking water straight from the tap and has done since he was 6 months too.

Nat777 · 18/07/2006 09:39

God you are far from bad parents! I just followed what a couple of friends did as I had no idea with this being my first.

Thats great, I shall stop boiling water now! Wish I knew before as it is a right pain! Thanks again. x

PanicPants · 18/07/2006 09:43

Really? Maybe I should stop then. Don't suppose there's much point when he eats anything off the floor.

Is anyone else still boiling?

On another note ds has just cruised the length of the sofa for the first time!

Nat777 · 18/07/2006 10:20

I feel maybe we are in the minority! Very true though, Missy puts most things in her mouth so not sure there is much point in boling the water.

I have just taught Missy to cuddle when I say 'Cuddles ahhhh!!!', we started doing it with her teddys and now she does it with me and puts her head on my shoulder and cuddles in. Soo cute! Maybe next week I will try to teach her to kiss!

Her favourite word at the moment is YES!! She has just started OFF, well I think that is what she is saying!

kipper22 · 18/07/2006 11:14

PP - the cows/rain/field proposal was kate not me - you've got muddles teacher head already! Mine was far more mundane - we had been with my family for Christmas and DH insisted on dragging me home for a meal. He sent me for a bath while he rang my mum to ask her permission, bless him. The proposal went something lik 'we've been going out for 5 years and we live together now so shall we get married?!' After that it took 2 years to actually get around to the wedding and just 3 months after that I was pregnant!

Tigerlion · 18/07/2006 14:33

Huge congratulations to Panicpants - what great news.

Is anyone else's LO struggling in the heat? I am giving DS so much water but he still sweats away like mad and seems to be quite a bit slower in all this heat.

He gets up, supporting himself on anything but has not yet started cruising. My dream would be that he is walking by the time that the new baby is born in just over two months. If anyone is thinking of having another baby, do try to be heavily PG in the winter months as it is unbearable in this weather. And that is exactly what I told myself last summer...!

Where can we add to the list of birthdays sent by Queenrollo? Can't believe they are all coming up so soon.

Off to go swimming - what bliss!

josey · 18/07/2006 16:20

congrats Panicpants

My dd has been very poorly ended up in the out of hours centre Sunday night had a temp of 103 hadnt eaten and had given up drinking hardly saw her eyes open all day sunday - the NHS24 were great got us and appointment for 8.30pm 2 hours after we phoned only for us to wait 2hours past the appointment for the doctor to turn up! yesterday she got worse temp went to 104+ no wet nappies just really pooy ones and she was sick but refused any fluid so im sure as most of you would have done i took her back to the doc to be told to go home what the hell did i expect her to be other than hot in this weather he didnt even take her temp arghhhhh!!
Thankfully she seems on the mend this avo though still hasnt eaten a thing since Sat.

on the bottles usually takes 9oz morning before breakfast has 2/3oz in breakfast then has the rest late morning or with lunch then 9oz at bed time - i have stopped with the boiling of water really beacuse she was given tap water by the nurse in the hospital the other night and was offered squash in it so i cant be all bad if thats what a nurse is offering i have given dd a small taste of cows milk and it went down well with no reaction but think i will wait till her birthday to give fully just incase though she is fine with cheese etc

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 18/07/2006 17:33

Congratulations PP!!!

Sorry to hear about DD, Josey.

Caitlin has 3 eight oz. bottles during the day. Sometimes she leaves some, other times she makes the sign for more. I never boil the water, we're not too concerned with that here in the USA. She gets some water or 1/2 water 1/2 juice in the afternoon.

Still hanging out in housing limbo. We went and got the keys to our new house this weekend. It looks like the kids and I will be there in about 2 weeks. Not good, though. MIL announced she had lung cancer this weekend, and it wasn't detected until it had spread, so we're going up to take care of her. Poor DH can't go up until mid-September, so he will be down here living with his dad and stepmom.

Are any of your LO's at the point where they take 2 naps a day, but are trying to drop the morning one? Caitlin is there, and screams and throws things if I try to put her down in the morning, but turns into an absolute little monster around 9:30-10 because she's so tired.

queenrollo · 18/07/2006 20:59

Tigerlion......just post your lo's birthday on this thread....then they are all in one place so to speak and then we can just cut and paste into the list below for the new thread.

Tigerlion · 19/07/2006 13:26

Tigerlion's Alex was born on 6th August, 2005 weighing 8lb13oz.

Do you need any more info Queenrollo?

All fans blasting in his room at the moment and he thinks that I am playing peekaboo with him everytime that I put a wet muslin on his head to cool him down!

It is meant to thunder tonight which will hopefully clear the air somewhat for the LOs.

Trying to get things sorted for the boys birthdays this week. We're having a BBQ for some family and friends next Saturday. I ordered him teddy bear cake last night and I'm trying to think of ideas for people whi keep asking what to get him. The problem is, he has an older brother so he already has lots of toys and clothes, until he older and can tell me what he wants it's a bit difficult. That and of course what does a one year old really want!! What are others getting for their little ones?

It's a bit cooler here today, but now very humid, can't win can I, oh well. DS2 is waking early at the moment because of the heat, poor thing is not doing well in the heat at all.

C&Cmommy, ds2 is trying to drop off a nap too. Sometimes he'll be really grumpy in the morning and sleep then and be OK in the afternoon, other days he'll be fine in the morning other times he'll have a sleep morning and afternoon. Is it Colin's birthday soon too?

josey · 20/07/2006 12:57

DD has come out in a viral rash today so much for the doc saying it was just the weather!! HV came to visit and checked her while swearing under her breathe at the doc's!!! i asked her about boiled water and cows milk the answer i got was keep boiling water cows milk should be ok from a year on though there is now reason why they cant have from 6months as long as they are on a good enough diet and they are getting enough iron which is the main reason for the formula

Wow kate I cant believe its only a week till your lo is 1 dd will be turning 11 months the day after so still seems ages away to my until i saw the stats again!
Could you maybe as some people for donations to his bank a/c instead of gifts? I have such a gap and obviously diff sex so its no so much a prob for me we are planning a swing and a ride on type thing and i already have decided she will get her 1st pram for Xmas!!

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 20/07/2006 15:59

Thanks for remembering Colin's birthday, Kate. He will be 3 on the 18th of August. I'm really bummed about the whole birthday thing, as DH will still be down here about 300 miles away from us. I think we'll come down the week after for Caitlin's and celebrate both then with family, but don't really want to drive that long 2 weeks in a row. We were going to turn it into a birthday/goodbye party, but really can't if I'm not going to be down here.

Miaou · 20/07/2006 16:44

Hello all. Did I see a reference to a new thread? Can't find it though...

Well ds has now worked out how to stand up and has started cruising - bless. His face is a picture. He is very wobbly but fearless and doesn't seem to be bothered when he falls over! He is currently getting me up between 5am and 5.30am so he is not my best pal in the mornings! He has added "woof" to his list of words too

Thanks for the birthday list kate, perhaps I'll leave it to you to start a new thread!

kate100 · 20/07/2006 18:01

Shall I start a new thread on the 28th, then it will be ready for everyone to give a report of their little one's birthdays, seeing as I was the 'advance' party for the August ante-natal thread and my little fella is the oldest I suppose I should start it, but I won't get round to it on the 29th, hmmmm wonder why? Let me know if you agree.

Miaou · 20/07/2006 18:51

Good idea kate, go for it I say

suzi2 · 21/07/2006 20:14

anyone any advice about DS biting while feeding?

link to thread

I think it's the end of the road for breastfeeding, but really can't bear to stop!

Dazie · 22/07/2006 10:34

Hi all

Just checking in. I cant believe this time last year I was led on the sofa with all the fans pointed at me to keep cool and counting down the days minutes and hours until max arrived!

Max has started walking which has been great, first of all he just walked side ways with his hands in the air like a monkey but now he has mastered the art, only trouble is now he can walk he wants to run and his little legs cant cope!!

Max hasnt started talking much yet but yesterday he said juice when he needed his drink which was really sweet.

Suzi2- Ive had the same trouble with max, also he got quite aggresive if it didnt feed him so he would head but me and bite. I made the descion last week to start weaning him off of the breast and he has been really good he had one day where I think he realised that he wasnt getting any and he cried for ages but now he is fine. I still feed him at night/early hours about twice but he has forgotten this a couple of times so far so good!

PanicPants · 24/07/2006 21:28

Looking forward to the new thread Kate, so I don't have to keep scrolling up and down so much.

Went back to work today and actually enjoyed it (although I was only covering other teachers' classes today while they met with the senco) the trouble was doing a full days work, getting home at 6.20 after picking ds up, and then having to think about bottles and dinners.
Got to do it all over again tomorrow but then at least there's the holidays afterwards.

Ds has been a bit grizzly all week and is beginning to throw the most spectacular tantrums. I hoping it's just the hot weather AND he didn't bat an eyelid this morning when I left him with my sister and when I affived tonight to pick him up he looked at my sister as if to say 'who's she?'. Talk about out of sight out of mind!

josey · 24/07/2006 21:35

glad you enjoyed your 1st day back panicpants

well dd started crawling on saturday and my oh my she is into everything she isnt meant to be i dont remember having this trouble with ds nevermind at least i have escaped this long!!!

look forward to the new thread kate - hope all goes well for you lo's birthday on saturday and happy birthday Ben when it comes

Miaou · 24/07/2006 21:36

Hi guys. Ds is standing quite confidently now, and today has just about mastered moving sideways - strangely, if he is going to do anything new, he tends to do it in the ten minutes before he flakes out ready for bed! He is much nearer walking at this age than the dds were (they walked at 14 and 15 months respectively). He got a new word today too - "Ba" for bath - he was looking at dh and shouting "Ba! Ba!" for ages then I realised he was late for his bath

On a personal (and possibly tmi ) note - my periods have restarted! I am really pleased about this because a) we are very keen to have another fairly soon, and b) it means I don't have to stop breastfeeding entirely. I am down to one late night and one early morning feed now, and will now keep going until ds is ready to stop. I was thinking I would have to stop before I was ready in order to conceive, so I am mightily relieved, I can tell you!

kate100 · 25/07/2006 12:12

Miaou, I think that you are the only woman in the world who is happy to have their period!!! Very pleased for you though, I know how much you want another, you crazy lady

So much to do for the boys birthdays, ds1's cake is in the oven as I type and have to tke ds2 out his afternoon to get him a present for ds1. Ds1 has chosen a great present for ds2, wait for it, a TAMBOURINE!!!!! There will be no peace in my house, ds2 doesn;t need any encouragement to make more noise, but it was what he wanted to give him, so how can I argue.

Miaou · 25/07/2006 12:25

I know, insane is my middle name....

What a fab present for ds! Must sort out what the dds want to get ds for his birthday soon.

colinandcaitlinsmommy · 25/07/2006 16:58

We had Caitlin's eye surgery yesterday. I can't remember if I've said before, but she had 2 blocked tear ducts and never has not had really gummy eyes. She did really well, and it will take about a week to see if it worked or not. If it doesn't, she's going to have to have tubes in her eyes. It was strange to see her after the surgery, because I've never seen her without glop somewhere around her eyes, because she makes so much of it it is impossible to keep up with cleaning it off.

Congrats, Miaou. I know how much you want another one fairly soon.

We're really bored here. Everyone's so tired of the heat. It has been about 105-109 and is too hot to go outside pretty much ever.

kate100 · 25/07/2006 17:52

Poor Caitlin, hope she makes a good recovery and that the problem is fixed too

Very hot here too, but not as hot, between 92 and 95 degrees. Too hot to go out except first thing and last thing, having lots of drinks and ice lollies to keep cool. Still it's supposed to rain for 4 days now, all over ds2's ourdoor birthday party, oh well!!
