How exciting yw! Fife is my second home place of work

mm no silly questions, just silly answers. I pooed on the 3rd day I think. I pressed a maternity towel with witch hazel against my stitches to stop it feeling as though my innards were going to fall out. It was a bit tense and I did get a pile. Thankfully Dh is an expert on piles so I was treated in a flash! Subsequent poos were mostly fine actually. I wasn't and still am not getting enough fibre. During pregnancy I was eating tons of fruit and veg. Not now. I stuffed a grapefruit down my throat today to try to make up for it. Crisps and chocolate are just easier to eat on the hoof.

I have a bottle warmer which came from the tommee tippee starter kit. I just take the chill off the milk really. It isn't a great idea to heat it too much as they will refuse it once it cools. I am afraid to say that P gets it a touch cooler at 2am than she does at 2pm.

VQ the poo didn't get near the nappy actually. I think I put it on wrongly as it had leaked massively right through her cellular blanket. I will practice again tomorrow.

Talking of pumps, I have a spectra 3 used intensively for about 10 days which any if you ladies can have should you wish. It has two pumps and we bought extra storage bottles. I cannot think that any potential DC2 will be along so quickly that it would be worth keeping. PM me if you are interested.

ValiumQueen · 06/12/2012 19:48

I have it barely warmed so when out and about you do not need to worry if you do not have facilities for warming. It also saves time. If baby has it very warm they can get picky, and also with BM you do not want too much heat to keep the lovely nutrients. I always shake (tits and bottles). Why not YW ?

FatimaLovesBread · 06/12/2012 19:53

MM I think it was day 5 before I pooed. Pre-pregnancy I'd normally go a few days anyway, but late pregnancy I was going every day. I was v scared with the 3rd degree tear but it was fine. I actually had four in one day Blush
Far TMI but I did lose a bit of dignity as the 2nd one got stuck and I had to pull it out (oh the shame) but its wasn't painful and DH was very understanding Grin After that its been fine.

I'm currently enjoying my evening lavender bath. M is quiet for once, after a crappy night she's been v grumpy today. I feel like I've been constantly feeding or soothing her crying. It took 2 hours to get ready to go out but she did sleep I her pram for 2hours while we registered her and then shopped.
I've just done a bit of expressing in the bath and got 4oz!! So tonight DH is going to try give her a bottle at 11pm so I can get more sleep.
Those of you who've introduced a bottle alongside boob did you have any problems doing it? And when did you start? I don't want any nipple confusion but I'm so sleepy.

I want to meet up but I'm in North England Sad Although I'm not a million miles away from Detective.

FatimaLovesBread · 06/12/2012 19:55

Oooh pass off to google the spectra3

KissysUnderTheMisteltoe · 06/12/2012 20:07

Blimey 5 pages of new thread done already! Hope everyone who's suffering with sore bits and boobs starts to feel better soon. Also hope any poorly LOs get well soon

Managed to get a bit of Xmas shopping done this afternoon. Also we bought a baby Bjorn sling as DP got a mothercare voucher from his work as a new baby gift. LO looks so dinky in it!

We are looking to get a buggy board for DD1 too. Does anyone have one of the ones they can sit on as well as stand? If so would u recommend it?

YellowWellies · 06/12/2012 20:11

I recommend the spectra 3 though it is a bit harsh on the nips until you're used to it.

VQ apparently it causes wind if you shake the bottle? Could be an old wife's tale but J is farty enough.

I took 6 days to poo and had to ask the MW for some lactulose as they had me on iron tabs after the birth and the combo of rock hard stools and stitches terrified me. It kinda felt odd and not comfortable (a bit too close to the recently stretched birth canal!) but I didn't cry like I thought I would!!!! Good luck x

Catbag · 06/12/2012 20:12

Hmmm, good tip with the milk. When i finally get round to expressing again i shall not heat it quite so warm.
Think i need to buy one of the silicon inserts that go inside the spectra 3. It's supposed to massage the breast more and help with the milk release, but i just want it to try and prevent so much of my boob disappearing inside the funnel thing. It hurts!

YellowWellies · 06/12/2012 20:12

How long til the wee man is feeling better? - he is still in such pain as he tries to latch :( it's breaking my heart. But I am not going to quit BFing over this.... But owww.....

daisychain76 · 06/12/2012 20:33

Good for youyw. Sounds like you are doing agreat job.

Speaking of meet ups, there was some talk of an north west one at one point~ guess that might be easier for you fatima

Baby H had a follow up appointment at hospital today and is doing great so they?ve discharged him Smile. He still needs vits and iron every day, but he is where he should be for his corrected age of 3 weeks. Having a take away to celebrate and ignoring the slimming world file on my kitchen side..

Elizadoesdolittle · 06/12/2012 20:34

Right both DD's asleep so I can finally post. E is bit better today and keeping most feeds down but we have had one projectile vomiting episode, we seem to get one a day at the moment. Luckily none if then have been whilst we are out as its very messy!

Went to bluewater last night and finish off all the crimbo shopping. Met a friend for dinner too and E slept all through it which was great. I'd left DD1 at home so actually felt like a bit of a night out. Will deffo do that again, without the huge amounts of shopping first! I had quite a few gift vouchers from people as gifts to spend too so got stuff for both DD's.

Put up our Xmas tree this afternoon so it's starting to feel quite Christmassy. I love Christmas!

Re the staying in/going out topic, as much as I'd love to I can't ever stay in all day. DD1 would literally be climbing the walls so we are actually out and about loads. I need to spend more time at home really to catch up on household chores but as my friend always tells me nobody says on their death bed that they wish they had done more housework!

GTbaby · 06/12/2012 20:48

Channel 4 Kirsty vintage home is focusing on baby nurserys today. So if u want to get creative catch it on +4 on 4oD.

We haven't started LO room yet. Mil still hasn't emptied the cupboards n the room is full of all his gifts and boxs of all his stuff. Not even a cot on there!

MissMummy1 · 06/12/2012 21:16

My breasts are engorged. I think (Mr Google). Really sore and hot and rock solid. Did pumping earlier do this?! Or is my milk just coming in with avengance?? Going to try a warm compress and expressing a little off before our next feed. Owww I am so crap at this Sad Sad

Thanks for the pooh answers! Lots of weetabix and fruit I think. Half of the hospital MLU saw my fanjo on Monday, I really must accept I have no.dignity left and not feel embarassed about discussing my bowel movements with a midwife! And let her have a play with my boobs now too. Oh the glamour Blush

kirrinIsland · 06/12/2012 21:18

GT we didn't sort DD1's room till she was 18 months! I'm aiming to do N's a bit quicker than that but as I am the queen of procrastination I'm not hopeful.

The dummy last night was a huge success. She fell asleep on me as usual and then I put her in the Moses basket with the dummy and she just stayed there, nice and settled. She still wakes up at least 4 times a night to feed, of course, but one step at a time!.....

I'm not good at staying in the house all day - and neither is DD1! Its worse at the moment cos my poor old dog died over the weekend and the house feels very strange without her :( I even braved soft play hell today, rather than stay in!

YW I hope the meds kick in soon, I am so impressed with your perseverance, it must be agony :(

FatimaLovesBread · 06/12/2012 21:34

MM my boobs were like that when my milk first came in, especially my right one. I massaged them in the bath. Some feeds I had to squeeze a bit out before latching but they soon settled down.

M is actually awake and not feeding or crying for once! Shock

A north west meet up would be good

FatimaLovesBread · 06/12/2012 21:35

So sorry about your dog Kirrin Sad

jenbird · 06/12/2012 21:47

Wow this thread moves fast...
MM I would think that the engorgement is from expressing. I haven't bothered this time. I did with ds1 as was going back to work but did find I was constantly engorged.
I think I have the sleepiest baby ever. She will be 10 days tomorrow and will probably be back over her birth weight. She literally is only awake for a maximum of 4 hours a day. I am starting to get a little worried. She is full of cold though bless her.
I (very stupidly) went to the gym yesterday. I only did half an hour and only very light exercise but I can feel it today and my pelvis and abdomen are sore. i think I will wait a few weeks before going again. We did some Christmas shopping today and I wanted a few new clothes as none of mine fit. Everything just looked dreadful. I know it is daft to expect it not too but I feel like I have recovered and should look normal but then I look in the mirror and I still look pregnant. Such a stupid insignificant worry but I hate the fact I feel crap.
Just read your post Kirrin. So sorry to hear about your dog x

NervousAt20 · 06/12/2012 21:48

VQ he's just being a nightmare because he's frustrated with not working but is driving me up the wall and end up arguing over little things

I think it was about 5 days before I could go to the loo and then it was a real struggle so had to get some lactulose that I still have to use now Xmas Sad

I applied for the breast pump but didn't get it, would love an electric one though. Does anyone find with expressing that they can only get milk when feeding LO off the other boob at the same time? If not I get about 1ml every 10-15min

daisy that's great news hope you enjoyed your take away

MM my boobs went like that when my milk come in, I expressed some off each so they weren't rock hard and I haven't had that problem again since

I normally have a couple of days in eah week and pop out to see my mum/friends/shopping onthe other days but now DP is off we're out every damn day, he can't stay in

Just out LO down and hoping to get a good few hours sleep so night all an hope we all have good nights

NervousAt20 · 06/12/2012 21:49

Aww kirrin I'm so sorry about you dog Sad there such apart of your family it's unreal, I hope y

NervousAt20 · 06/12/2012 21:50

Your okay xx

Titsalinabumsquash · 06/12/2012 22:05

I have my baby back from MIL and a beautifully clean house. J has also had a giant feed (which I love him even more for because I was starting to resemble Dolly Parton after a days not feeding) and he's slept by himself in his carry cot! We got him a Slumber pal light show, basically a frog teddy with lights in its back so they project stars and the moon on the ceiling, he was mesmerised until he dropped off.
I wrapped some pressies and watched actual tv. Just waiting up for DP who has gone swimming with his nobber friend.

DP is attempting to erect shelving tomorrow .... I'm hoping the wall will still be intact by the time he's done.

StuntNun · 06/12/2012 22:07

J's cord came off a couple of hours ago and he has been screaming ever since. I thought it wasn't supposed to hurt them. DH won't be home for two hours but I don't think I can take another two hours of screaming.

OP posts:
kirrinIsland · 06/12/2012 22:18

Thank you. She was a gorgeous dog and we'd had her 10 years. They really are part of the family.

Jen I feel a bit the same. I tried a dress on yesterday and it just looked awful - I have a real belly on me and I hate it. But I also have no will power so losing it is going to be a struggle.
Am I right in thinking that you shouldn't do abdominal exercises until after your 6 week check? I have it in my head that they will check then that the muscles have come back together correctly and if they haven't, then any sit ups etc could result in giving yourself a worse tummy bulge as you'll strengthen them into the wrong position? IYSWIM. Or have I made that up?!

pikz · 06/12/2012 22:25

jen and kirrin I cried the other day after mum took the baby long enough for me to have a proper shower and I caught sight of myself in the mirror. I know it's only 13 days since I gave birth but I have nothing that fits and even maternity clothes don't work as all the elastic waistbands sit on my scar. I feel like the biggest mess in the world and that my thighs will never actually get thinner.

Am having a bit of a wobbly evening. DP is back tomorrow after 10 days away at the world champs. However this means he hasn't actually really been at home with the baby. I'm worried at the shock it's going to be for him on lack of sleep etc. how did your partners cope with the shock first time round?

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 06/12/2012 22:27

Thought I'd share, not sure if anyone has said this already - MM they like to check your bowel/pelvic floor isn't in shock/is working ok. Think I went 5 days after DD and maybe 36hrs after DS. Try apricots, fybogel and plenty of water. Opiates really bung me up (had codeine with DD, hence the 5 days) so take lactulose if I have them.

kissy we've got the Kidsit buggy board which has a seat.

Catbag · 06/12/2012 22:28

Nervous, I struggle to get any milk off unless I have a baby on the other side. Once I do have a baby on the other side the milk comes out gloriously fast, but it is tricky for me as I feed my babies at the same time. Every time i have tried to express i have ended up with one of them screaming :(
