Stunt- the cord should not hurt them, should just drop off. That said, Saul's hurt him when it came off because the clip caught on his nappy inside his babygrow and pulled it off a little too early. It had bled a bit. He cried. I felt awful.

StuntNun · 06/12/2012 22:41

He's got a big lump sticking out if it as well, it's about half an inch long. I've never seen anything like it. He's stopped crying at last and is in his cot but I'm slightly traumatised.

Thanks chunky and everyone else who has offered me brilliant advice on all of todays worries. I would be an even bigger wreck without all your support!

Had a bit of a cry to dp tonight as I feel so useless. He is doing absolutely everything around the house, inc. most if not all nappy changes, while I sit feeding all the time. And now this engorgement thing and my lack of knowledge is making me feel like I'm fucking this up too. Sad Matilda only ever cries with me unless I'm feeding her but she's so happy with dp. I am tired and sore and feeling sorry for myself. People have it so much worse than me so sorry for moaning. I'll be fine tomorrow Smile .

kirrinIsland · 06/12/2012 23:05

pikz first time round my DP coped with the lack of sleep far better than i did ok. He was less understanding about me being a blubbering hormonal wreck, but that sort of thing is not really his forte. How did your DP get on at the world champs?

There was a full length mirror in the bathroom at the hospital and I really wish there hadn't been. I had been doing ok before I saw myself in that - not a pretty sight. Thing is, weight wise I'm not toooo bad, but i just look so different, flabby tummy and chunky thighs.

MM I remember with DD1 breaking down in tears a few timesin the first week or so because it was all just so overwhelming. I had this tiny baby and no clue what to do with her. Throw in no sleep and hormones all over the place and tears were kind of inevitable. It's normal, and you will be fine. You are doing a great job. N cries more with me than with DP - I assume because I smell of milk and she seems to think time not spent feeding is time wasted! She's much more relaxed with him.

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 06/12/2012 23:45

MM its perfectly normal to feel overwhelmed & it seems like all you're doing is feeding. I find it so frustrating at the mo because all I do (or so it seems) is feed - I'm barely doing anything else with either DD or DS!!

My belly is almost back to normal but I now have stretch marks which I managed to avoid with DD. Not sure my muscles are back together though & haven't done any exercises for ages.

Got A's tongue tie appt tomorrow at Kings to have it snipped. Bit nervous but am sure it'll be fine. Should stop him gagging on my milk, gnawing my nips & feeding so erratically - I hope!!!

NervousAt20 · 07/12/2012 01:03

I'm sure everything will be fine tomorrow chunky hopefully it makes feeding times better for you both

How can I make LO feed for longer at night, she's just feed for 7 min and is sound asleep so I change her and she waked up then sucks for a minute or. two then refuses more but I know she'll get me up in an hour

GTbaby · 07/12/2012 01:31

Thank you for ur advice this morning. I actually only read it now. LO fell asleep at 2 till 4. Managed to eat, do some ironing n do A rough clean of bathrooms.

I feel bad as i know im getting alot more sleep then some of u. I'm used to having eight hours sleep, so struggling. LO is fast asleep now. But i am wide awake. Then I struggle to wake in morning and even at 9am feed try to put LO bk to bed so I can sleep more.

DH told me to speak to dr about sleeping pills. But I don't see how that would help as I need to wake to feed LO.

Thank u for suggestion about supermarket! We have a big tesco near by so will try popping to the cafe tomorrow.

nervous do u feed with light on, take her clothes off so she is cooler? If she is wide awake when u start she might feed longer? Also maybe try nappy changing first? So she is more awake.

Been 2 n half hours since LO last feed. Should I give him a "dream feed" now in the hope ill fall asleep soon and he will have a longer sleep. Or wait for him to. Wake. Hmmmm

Dixiebell · 07/12/2012 01:44

A few questions....

MW says Teddy has tongue tie, which I suspected. But feeding is fine, so no need to get it snipped but just wondered if it likely to cause any other probs for him when older?

Anyone else's tummy really numb? It was at end of pg, I guessed because of stretching, but still feels v weird, I don't like clothes/towels to brush against it.

Also my belly button has just disappeared. It got pushed out completely flat and now is just not there at all. With ds1 it came back a bit floppies but I can't imagine how it's ever going to look like a belly button again...Confused

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 07/12/2012 02:02

Dixie if Teddy isn't having any problems, such as excess wind, gagging, reflux, dribbling, troubling latching on, poor weight gain etc then it is unlikely to need to be done. In fact, here you wouldn't get a referral for it on the NHS w/out those issues, you'd have to go private. It's likely its a low level tongue tie if it isn't affecting his latch etc. which means its unlikely to have an impact in future and may well break/stretch naturally. Aaron's affects feeding, he has a very obvious tie almost to the front of his tongue, resulting in a misshapen "heart-shaped" tongue, which he can't poke out, which could affect how he manages solids (his gag reflex is very sensitive & far forward) or even his speech. Often tongue tie is cut by a spoon or toy going under the tongue when the baby is older/a toddler. Most babies therefore, won't have it into adulthood.

GT Why on Earth did you spend his nap time ironing/cleaning??!! You should have put your feet up & rested... Perhaps do some relaxation exercises or something to help you sleep at night?

ChunkyTurkeywiththetrimmings · 07/12/2012 02:33

Dilemma. Been awake ~1hr now, with A feeding, then realised nappy full so changed him, then he woke up. Put dummy in but he spat it out after a few mins, 1min of boob & he's asleep BUT he has just farted/possibly done a poo. Do I check his nappy/change him or just assume it was wind & go to sleep? Decisions, decisions...Confused

FatimaLovesBread · 07/12/2012 02:54

Can you manage to look under one leg to see if he's pooed without disturbing him? I'd be tempted to think a fart but I suppose it depends what it sounds like.

GTbaby · 07/12/2012 02:56

chunky so what did u do? I try to check through leg of nappy before attempting a change.

I only realised that pampers ( don't know if others do this) have a yellow line on front which turns blue when nappy fills with wee lol.

Think I may have been emotional due to period. Hopefully my hormones will settle down now.

Don't like the new faces on app update. Which is confused and eye brow raised faces?

Wondering about tongue ties. LO feeds fine. But dribbles. Some times makes puking face n has colic. He can not stick tongue out at all and there is a bit of a heart shape to his tip. I just want it snipped rather then cause problems later. Got 8 week check on wed so will speak to dr about it then.

MadamGazelleIsMyMum · 07/12/2012 03:26

Hello, checking in on new thread and will try and catch up - congrats to new graduates and hope those with unwell babies are getting better.

DS doing brilliantly. 5 weeks old today and regularly only waking once between 11pm and 7am now. Flip side is that he feeds a lot between 6pm and 11pm, and is windy and colicky during that time and a bugger to get him down to sleep, but feels good to wake once.

On the subject of useless DHs, mine is generally wonderful but useless at night. DD has croup so feeling v sorry for herself and sleeping with DH in spare room. Last night she woke up crying - real distressed coughing and crying. I had to go and wake him up to deal with it. Despite me being in a different bed and room!

rowingdowntheriver · 07/12/2012 03:33

It's been a while since I posted as I'm finding I don't have time to get on mn during the day and then usually at night I am so tired I can barely keep my eyes open to read!

I've not caught up on the thread yet but will have a look through at the next feed in a couple of hours (surely L should be able to go longer than 2 hours between feeds at 6 weeks?!). Congratulations to all the new arrivals!

chunky, maybe this is because I'm a lazy second time mother but I don't tend to change L at night. I only would if there was actual poo leakage out of the nappy. Tbh he pretty much stopped pooing at night after a couple of weeks anyway.

daisychain76 · 07/12/2012 03:58

Aaargh, H has been up 2.5 hours, gazing round, wide awake. Very cute, but would like some sleep now.

NervousAt20 · 07/12/2012 04:29

My eyes are stinging so bad

Passmethecrisps · 07/12/2012 04:40

Need gripe water. P is 4 weeks on Monday. Could I give her it tomorrow,

GTbaby · 07/12/2012 05:04

Pass u can deff use infacol before 4 weeks. I only used gripwater after 4 weeks +2 days.

GTbaby · 07/12/2012 05:35

Yes but rowing what is classed as night? What time do u do last n first change?
I have done 11pm n now 5.30am as first of day. However THANK F£&K LO only does 1 poo a day usually mid afternoon. So by morning it's just a heavy wet nappy.

Can't believe I'm wide awake again I think I only fell asleep at 3 Hmm.

rowingdowntheriver · 07/12/2012 06:33

Last nappy change is just before we go to bed so usually 11 or 12. First change is not before 7am.

I know what you mean about what counts as night, hard to tell whe when the wake so bleedin often during the night!

I was hoping DS would start stretching his feeds out by now - wonder if I am part of the Robles though as I let him fall asleep on me after a short feed and don't keep him going to make sure he has had a good long feed. So hard to do when you just want to go back to sleep!

GTbaby · 07/12/2012 07:02

Omg. I'm still awake. Wtf.
I have slept from 3am- 5.15. That's it. I know it's to be expected when u have a newborn. But he has been asleep all night!
N now all I can think is that I'm hungry. DH will be bk from night shift. May as well get up n have breakfast with him.
Might as well write those Xmas cards I keep putting off!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 07/12/2012 07:08

Is gripe water better than Infacol? Please excuse my ignorance Blush

NervousAt20 · 07/12/2012 07:22

Aw GT that sounds rough, will you be able to catch up on sleep today? I do try all those to keep LO awake apart from taking a layer off so ill try that next time Xmas Smile

I'm not sure sophia I use infacol and its been great for us. Aren't you only ment to use gripe water when there over a certain age? Not sure if that's true or not I know nothing about the stuff but think I've heard it somewhere

DesperateHousewife21 · 07/12/2012 07:40

We had quite a good night last night. Only fed twice, got 4 hours in a row then a few more hours til 6:45 when she did a biiiig poo which leaked out the back and soaked her whole back inc her bodysuit, sleepsuit and sleeping bag!

We even dtd last night but I'm not really into it atm. Dd is 4 weeks today and it was our second go at it. We're having to use condoms til I can go on the pill in a few weeks. I don't know if its them but it just doesn't feel all that comfy, it's not painful though.
