Diege - Monday sounds good we have to put our existing weight anyway don't we? Or do we just put what we've lost?

Well Candi - he's already going 4 hrs between feeds so I don;t really think I should wait any longer! I do vaguely remember reading somewhere that 4-6mths or somewhere around now is the peak of spitting up though - or did I imagine that? Whatever it is he just keeps spitting!!

Gosh just tried to do PU/PU with Caleb doing a45 min wake up and he wouldn't even stop crying for 15mins in the end my arms got so tired I just put him down and came back out here for 5 mins for a rest! He still crying in there - he must definitely be a touchy baby I'm sure!

Candiemom · 09/03/2006 14:03

Oh and BoB, I envy you your hangover. Sounds like a great day, and Saturday sounds like it will also be terrific. I love the hotel -- are you sleeping over there or just having dinner? You have a lovely DH! Very thoughtful and perfect for making new mom feel good and special about herself again.

beartime · 09/03/2006 14:06

ok went in and he's all hot and sweaty from crying so I gave up!

Candiemom · 09/03/2006 14:07

bear -- Poor little thing. On the feeds, four hours between feeds is definately enough so that can't be it. I also read that reflux peaks at 4 months. Does he cry when he spits up? Do you think from his cry he is in pain? Leggies coming up? Or when lying flat more likely to cry? These are all reflux symptoms, and it is apparently more common in boys. Would like to hear more just because I'm living the reflux dream every day!

beartime · 09/03/2006 14:20

he doesn't cry when he spits up, and doesn't seem to be in pain usually, and legs don't come up, and is OK lying flat - just spits up and hiccups a LOT! Maybe there's a non-painful reflux?

Candiemom · 09/03/2006 14:32

yes, dd not always in pain. noticed any poo-like cramping after eating? there is such a thing as silent reflux but i think thats a kind where there is only a bit of spitting up. they worry only if not gaining weight or pain/dammage to oesophagus. you could try keeping him stiil/upright 20 mins after feeding and see if that helps.

londoner thanks for the website btw, have been meaning to try this.

Candiemom · 09/03/2006 14:44

does he spitup/hiccup right after eating? I think if it's right after that's pretty normal, but if it is like an hour or more that's a reflux symptom.

Busyalexsmummy · 09/03/2006 14:50

BoB-freaky knitting patterns-WTF??! LOL, where on earth did you find those!?! ......Scarey!

OP posts:
beartime · 09/03/2006 15:15

Normally its only the half-hour or so after, but occasionally a long time after.

Diege · 09/03/2006 15:26

Afternoon! Libby mesmorised by her new aquarium bouncer, so a few minutes freed up (though big cat is screaming the house down Angry. Driving lesson went well [surprised emotion!!!]; think I have sort of got the hang of reverse round corner, but will always be hit or miss with me Blush; not going to ever reverse when /if I pass anyway Grin.
Friend had just cancelled trip out tommorrow Sad, but am going to go out whatever the weather, as have had a quiet week this week, what with the rain...
BOB, what a wonderful birthday treat!!! You must be on such a high; how romantic!!
BEAR: I think it would make sense for us to state our starting weights, then it all apears more real IYSWIM!! I'm happy to do weigh in on here, bit easier than yahoo for my challenged brain, but would happily fit in with what everyone else wants.
Right, am going to get my rain things on and get some ingrediants in for a SW tikka masala!! mmmm!!
Speak later,
Diege.

Diege · 09/03/2006 15:28

BTW just have to share with you that I've picked out 24 hair extensions this morning; a great experience if you're a 'picker' like me! I need to get out...!!

BEKsmum · 09/03/2006 15:29

Hi girls

Bob how lovely, what a great present, hope you have a fantastic time on Saturday and your meal last night sounds very yummy, think I'll have to drag dh there one weekend.

Right does anyone want to swap children? You can have mine, I'll even pay you to take them off my hands. I have had the day from hell, as Thomas has had 10 minutes, yes 10 minutes sleep all day and Ben has thrown up all over my lounge, without any prior warning - I was upstairs and he walked all the way round the through lounge - arrgghh. I think my sil jinxed me last night by saying that at least he had been well for a whole week!

Diege, Thomas always has a "fart fest" about half way through the night and he has his last feed between 8pm - 10pm and this is normally preceded by a bout of crying and wriggling around before it starts, he does so many you expect him to look like a deflated balloon in the morning, so Libby could have had trapped wind last night.

Candi, sorry about today, will try to arrange another meet up for a week or so's time.

A little trick you can try when you fly home is to give your dd the largest dose of calpol she is allowed before you take off, this will help relax her and get her off to sleep and keep her there for a good part of the flight. You can also get something called Fenigren, which is a childs sedative but I think she may be a bit little for that at the moment.

I know it sounds a bit wicked to give them medicine when they don't really need it but the air pressure in the cabin won't bother them so much either especially if she is starting to teeth too.

Right best go and sort out my boys, Thomas is yelling, Ben is complaining his tummy hurts and dh looks like death as he ended up working all last night after getting a call at 8:30pm, he finally logged off the computer at 6:30am to go into the office. His computer is our bedroom, so I got woken up everytime ht emobile went or he went up and down the stairs!!!

Sorry for the selfabsorbed post but needed to rant - hope you are all well. Beks

Candiemom · 09/03/2006 15:33

Well, unless it really bothers you or him, or you think it could be a bug and not just normal baby barf, you're probably ok just keeping track and mentioning next time you see your dr/hv. Also try burping more often (this doesn't work so well for us, but it's worth a try). They do say don't overfeed but I'm loathe to stop mine as I'm trying to allow her to set the pace.

As I say (now typing using capitals and punctuation as dd is asleep), they only really worry if there is not enough weight gain or the acid is harming the oesophagus. My pediatrician says the only thing I need to worry about is if she is in pain or discomfort and that's the reason we are treating her.

And they tell you over and over that even though you think it's a lot they barf up is usually isn't that much, not even an ounce. You're supposed to try this by spilling a small amount of water to compare.

I have a load of websites but check this one as it's written by a mom. www.cryingoverspiltmilk.co.nz/RefluxOverview.htm

Candiemom · 09/03/2006 15:37

Ok have added my album but I'm not sure I've done it right I know there was some talk of this the other day and I hope I haven't been the IT loser today! Let me know if it's all ok thanks for the invite BAM

beartime · 09/03/2006 16:30

Thks for the help Candi - some of the symptoms on the website look a lot like him - like being difficult to settle, pulling off during feeds etc. but he doesn't seem to be overly in pain, and is gaining weight OK so I think I'll just let it go and maybe try burp him more often - at the mo I do it about 3 times a feed, twice during and once afterwards - but usually I wait till he pulls off to burp him (cos I'm in the middle of a book usually!) -d'you think I should pull him off to burp him earlier?

beartime · 09/03/2006 16:31

Oh I forgot to say thanks for all the compliments on Caleb - its funny when peoplesay he's sweet i don't feel right saying thank you - cos it's not like its anything to do with me, so I just say yes he is isn't he! I totally expected to be ugly the firstfew months but was pleasantly surprised. Mind you looking back at some of my Nov/Dec pictures I would say love is a bit blind though!

beartime · 09/03/2006 16:40

Just looked at your photies Candi - your baby has a lot of hair too! Now see that's what I should have done for my pregnant photo - dark glasses and hair in front of my face!

Candiemom · 09/03/2006 17:27

They do say with bf that you should burp regularly. I can't remember if it's half way through the first and then at the end of the first, then half way through second and at end of second. But I don't find my dd burps on demand like that, so what are you going to do?? Caleb is adorable same hair as dd!! Now does he have a bald patch at the back? And dreadlocks? Ours does the dreads are because at the very beginning I didn't brush enough so now there are three giant knots back there and I just can't bring myself to snip them off! Our friend said, 'no offence but from the back your baby looks like a chimpanzee' which is TRUE, hairwise anyway. People tell me she'll wear it all off and the real stuff will come through. I keep hoping that she'll stop outing me as not a natural blonde!

The pregnancy photo is a totally posed joke though few have actually gotten it! I was SO exhausted that day but my family was bugging me to send pictures so that was it. Also I was someone told me that was the right pose if one was trying to look less bulbous. There are NO photos in the last month and very few in the first (of me).

Londoner · 09/03/2006 18:50

Beartime - mine spits up all the time as well, but I haven't thought anything amiss, just make sure I put a bib on and change it regularly. Really good to hear that this is peaking at 4-6 months, I didn't know that, v. helpful thank you! I wondered if it was because they're bringing back some of the more watery foremilk, as the tummy was full, and then asking to replace it with more high fat stuff... but don't know the facts, that's just what I was feeling it was.... Am shocked by your questions to find out how little I really know about bf, amazing considering I have bf for a total of 3 years and 5 months altogether so far! What is it that's worrying you, the spitting up?
Candi, great, see you at 11........... I have a big purple suede shoulder bag but don't know if I'm bringing the sling or the buggy.... I'll recognise you by your description though......... and I'll go and have a look on Yahoo as well.....
BoB - glad you had a great birthday, and fantastic news about your b.day treat coming up this weekend...... wow! Hope you have a fantastic time!
Rodeo, riding sounds wonderful........ must feel so good!

Londoner · 09/03/2006 19:01

Loving your photos candi - think I will recognise you nowSmile.
Also love your photos brownie and yorkshire...so good to put faces to names, thanks!

beartime · 09/03/2006 19:16

Candi - maybe I will try taking off to burp more. Caleb does have a bald patch at the back but its not actually bald, because where he lost his hair he started to get more hair pretty soon after and its growing quite quickly, so he isn't totally bald anywhere - and no dreadlocks! I actually cut his hair at the back and sides pretty soon cos I didn't like the look! And I gave his top a haircut this week - brave me Grin LOL about the chimpanzee!

Londoner - I have tried bibs periodically but I hate the look! Plus he puts it over his face so he can't see! It was the spitting up that was worrying me, but today I tried being really aware of when he might have had enough and stopped putting him back on, and he didn't spit up as much - so maybe I was force feeding him! I think sometimes I want to finish my chapter so I just shove him back on without thinking that he might be full Blush

Diege · 09/03/2006 21:26

Evening girls!SmileNothing much to report here, but thought I'd just come on to say hello Smile.
Thanks BEKS for suggestion about wind...you may be right, as we had same thing at lunch-time nap, and it was def. wind then. LOL at 'fart-fest' Grin, better out than in!
Dead jealous of LONDONER and CANDIE's cinema date tommorrow, have a great time!
Am back at work on 28th April, so am going to try and arrange a trip 'down south', hopefully with RODEO and other notherners, before then. You know what we are like up here organising things to death, so I won't start just yet, but be warned, we will be entering the capital!!!
Well, work to do, so speak later!
Have a good sleep everyone!
Diege Smile
PS: BEAR, I would be lost without my bibs!

Busyalexsmummy · 09/03/2006 22:20

Beks-Oh love, I totally sympathise with you, have been up to my eyes all day today in sick and poo, was confronted by an hysterical alex at 7.50am this morning who was covered in head to toe in puke(ewww) so had to try and strip him down and calm him down then tackle a cot full of sick, in the end, just chucked everything apart from the mattress in 60degree wash and scooped out the clean(!)sick chunks from the rubber seal after the wash had finished!!(with marigolds on of course!) I really have problems dealing with sick....! The only benefit being he was very quite and calm today, not running around trashing the place!

Well nearly got all the things to make my "thing" to sell now(!) Im just awaiting some things of ebay tomorrow...ribbon...cellophane etc...its very exciting, but im very scared it wont work and I'll end up losing precious money I could be spending on other things, oh well, You have to take risks sometimes.....!Wink

will check in again later....hi to everyoneSmile L x

Evening :)

Hello Diege! It's the easter hols in April, would it be easier to go to London in the hols? One day in the week? What is Libby's aquarium bouncer?? It sounds lovely!

Met L&Smum for coffee this morning (well, tea and crumpets!) which was lovely, but the bus journey to town was horrendous! About a hundred old people got on the bus and I felt really arkward taking up the room with pushchair, and someone close by stank of alcohol & cigarettes. Yuk!

Just got back from swimming, what with that & riding, I think it is some kind of activity record for me! Am aching from yesterday though, my muscles aren't used to exercise.

Beks, having poorly children is the worst :( esp. when it's dragged out. Poor you, you must be worn out - make sure you're taking care of yourself :)

Beartime - I am always covered in white patches! And don't notice half the time Blush Jess spits up after most feeds, and I keep a bib on her for a while after a feed and if I'm being organised I'll carry a muslin cloth around with us to mop up accidents (yes, this is the extent of me being organised!)

Candi, you and little Georgia look lovely, LOL at her 3 knots Grin have a great time at the cinema tomorrow with Londoner - what are you going to see?

Bob, brill pressy!! Have a wonderful time! V. Envy of the lie-in you'll get on Sunday!

Right, I'm shattered so I'm off to bed x x x

LaylaandSethsmum · 09/03/2006 22:53

V weird knitting patterns on the yahoo site also v bizarre, wonder if they actually get used.

Anyway off to have browse on e-bay , really shouldn't but I desperately want a Quinny Buzz pushchair and can't really justify the shop prices so keep logging on hoping there might just be a brand new one for a fiver!!Smile
