tally go onto cow and gate website and order 5 step weaning guide, it's free and it's a really good reference and recipes are v simple.

I stupidly invited a friend from work over for lunch today with her wee boy so now I have until 1.30pm to get this house presentable! At least I've got a reason today so I WILL get something done lol

emmazed · 09/02/2012 08:31

ed thanks for the tip. Cow and gate guide ordered. So excited and nervous for weening. I love cooking so the idea of j eating lovely food I have made is so nice, but I know it will also be really difficult and stressful. Particularly as he is not good with milk (although he does seem to be getting better). I am going to try to wait for 6 months so also looking forward to getting lots of tips of you ladies with other kids.

mama cp sounds fab. I would LOVE a holiday. Going to jersey in may so not too long to wait....

J is so cute at the moment lots of chatting and smiling. He seems so aware of everything going on

He is 16 weeks so not looking forward to the sleep regression you all seemed to get. When did it start?

FuzzzyDuck · 09/02/2012 09:02

The 5 step weaning guide is good! Plus it's got some money off vouchers for the cereals etc. I'm excited to start! I had steamed some broccoli the other day for dinner and I gave her a bit to hold. She had a wee taste, picture on her face was funny Grin. I asked the HV about blw the other day but she admitted she didn't know much about it as they only speak about purée. I want to do the purée veg/fruit to start then introducing pasta etc but all the while offering finger foods.

S has her 4 month jabs today. She has a bit of the cold, but I can't remember if that's ok? No temp, just sniffly nose.

Scheherezade · 09/02/2012 09:11

Ooh I got that sent in the post a few days ago. I'm not really sure how we're going to tackle weaning, it seems like a massive hurdle. How long is it until they are onto just solids in the day?

I'd like to do blw, despite my MIL being funny about it Hmm

FuzzzyDuck · 09/02/2012 09:13

Well you take it day by day but I would expect them to be eating most things within a few months

Engelsmeisje · 09/02/2012 09:28

Didn't mean to jump the gun with weaning! We're only going to offer M a spoonful of veg once a day just to see how he responds (in a few weeks time). I'm not going to push it if he won't take it. I think they're a bit more relaxed about starting weaning here at 4/5 months.

quick question - had 2 large glasses of wine last night between 8 and 11 (finally made it out for dinner with the girls!). DH gave M a bottle of EBD while I was out, so when I got home at 12.30 I expressed a bottle from my very full boobs. Should I throw it away? (i think yes "pump and dump", DH says it can't be in milk so quickly so keep it). And should I also have given him a bottle from my expressed stash at 3am instead of breast? Confused

This is why I haven't been drinking anything the last few months - it's too confusing!

Glad you had a good time mama and J is back to normal.

Scheherezade · 09/02/2012 11:12

Engel, the midwife told me to wait 1hour per unit. It goes into your milk the same as blood alcohol levels.

PenguinArmy · 09/02/2012 12:47

I would dump tbh but I wouldn't have pumped in the first place

PenguinArmy · 09/02/2012 12:48

and feeding at 3 am would have been fine

PenguinArmy · 09/02/2012 12:49

we will do BLW to start again, we introduced spoon foods around 8/9 months last time when we started giving her breakfast and dal dishes as we moved into 'winter'.

Jnice · 09/02/2012 14:21

I think the main thing for weaning is that they can sit unaided, this makes it less of a choke hazard. I started at 4m with ODS and he wasn't sitting on his own, I wish I had waited because it didn't help with his weight gain or sleep.

BLW for us too, although I did it with ds2 and he is the fussiest eater I know now!

CheshireDing · 09/02/2012 15:44

Yeh! have proper internet again now. Have wrecked hands from cleaning our new house and no nails (I think this is something to do with bf).

Off to read thread and catch up, may be sometime. Collecting a Bumbo for P as well tonight :)

Is anyone elses baby completely wild?! She is a right yeller!

Oh and I nearly cried (and pooped my pants) at OBEM last night.

CheshireDing · 09/02/2012 17:00

Okay, have read and it seems as though normal non-sleeping-bonkers-babies are the norm right now so I will join you for lack of sleep. Since we moved we have been bringing P's bedtime forward so she is in her basket from about 8pm and we have some time on our own. She was much better at first and slept for 5 hours straight but now we are back to 2 hours and then waking, yawn!

I noticed today too that some of her head has rubbed off on the top of the moses basket :(

Are you def pregnant Super? I did a POAS yesterday but not convinced there was a line :(

How is everything BB3 and Strawberry now?

Scheherezade · 09/02/2012 17:23

The top of her head, or her hair, Cheshire ?!

strawberrypenguin · 09/02/2012 17:57

cheshire we're doing ok thanks just awaiting our appointment at John Radcliffe. If P isn't sleeping well in her basket and is running out of room in it may I suggest moving her to her cot? We got to that stage with W and he is sleeping so much better in the cot, I think he had got uncomfortable in the basket. As he's now in his own room we're putting him in a sleeping bag rather than blanket for our piece of mind!
Good luck for POAS hope you get the result you want soon.

Penguin didn't realise you were in Oxford, we are relatively close, I'm in Winchester.

Loving all the weaning talk! W is nowhere near yet, he's only discovered he can chew his hands in the last couple of weeks and is still very content with just milk (he's only 15 weeks tho) plus he can't sit up without capsizing sideways or backwards after a few seconds :o

Sorry if I've missed anyone, I'm sure I have but I can't remember who/what

TallyBear · 09/02/2012 18:28

Mama You're just down the road from me! It sounds really good. I think we can get a day pass (although perhaps in the summer!)

Sch no NHS classes have been mentioned. Might ask hv nearer the time.

Ed thanks for the tip - guide ordered (but saying that I've still not had my cuddly cow, despite asking three times!). I hope you got your house presentable in time. I had the nct girls over this pm so I too spent all morning tidying and hiding things in cupboards Smile.

Emm Seb is also really smily and chatty at the moment. He smiles and talks at everyone. So cute Grin.

Been trying to get a Stokke high chair off ebay but they go for quite a lot. Does anyone have one, are they worth it?

sassy34264 · 09/02/2012 18:48

sorry, ive not caught up yet and i havent read any posts.

Sad Last night here. Officially loving the pool and the dc had brilliant time. Saw magician today and ds1 and dh did high ropes and zip wire. Hoping to spend morning at pool tomorrow too.

FuzzzyDuck · 09/02/2012 19:31

Re highchairs (sorry I'm on phone don't remember who asked) I got a great one from ikea it's a metal frame and folds flat, but it goes up against the table just like stokke and was only £30.
Also mamas and papas sell one v similar to stokke for c. £70

I did manage to get the house sorted and tonight is dh's poker night so I'm really getting to enjoy my night with tv in a nice clean living room for a change Grin

I watched OBEM last night too it wa awful, did anyone else think it looked like the pead was ready to give up Shock

TallyBear · 09/02/2012 20:47

Sassy that's excellent news. Smile

Fuzzzy I found out today the 3rd injection was three....Seb will not be happy about that, I don't think he heard though... Grin

Ed it was me asking about highchairs. Thanks, I'll take a look at Ikea (I love Ikea...mmmmm meatballs....!!)

Omg OBEM was awful but when it was looking really bad I did say to dh that she (she?) would be OK otherwise they wouldn't show it on tv.
