Penguin sorry you've had a tough few days. Can you get an evening off with a glass of wine and some chocolate (my answer for everything)?

Jnice yes bleb still there got swollen and painful again at weekend while away and went to doctors - only thing he could suggest that I wasn't already doing was cabbage leaves so have added that into the mix as well (olive oil and cabbage in my bra now...Hmm)

PenguinArmy · 07/02/2012 19:17

DS is a bottle refuser :(

Jnice · 07/02/2012 19:21

Yes - definitely have some blockages in there Sad

Trying to massage when L feeds but noisy awful pain. Will try heat, cabbage etc.

L was awful last night, can I blame a full moon too? So exhausted today.

Jnice · 07/02/2012 19:22

Forgot to say... ODS turned 9 today - 9 years ago I became a mum Smile you'd think I'd know what I'm doing by now Wink

MrsHende · 07/02/2012 19:30

Has anyone tried giving their BF babies expressed milk from a cup? L is also a bottle refuser and my HV suggested using a medicine cup - I think she means the kind that would come on the top of a medicine bottle?

PenguinArmy · 07/02/2012 19:32

they would lap it, takes a while to get technique down I hear. Now DS is 4 months (nearly) I plan to try a sippy cup and if needs be a open cup. I want two 6 hour days to myself in April.

FuzzzyDuck · 07/02/2012 19:42

MrsH there is a tommee tippee cup you can buy that has an inverted top with just a small hole to allow milk out (like a straw width). HV said they were good for bf babies who won't take bottle

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 07/02/2012 20:57

I jet bought bottle today from mothercare they are called "breastflow" bottles they have an outer and inner teat the outer one is really soft and flexible and shaped like a boob and the inner one controls the flow so baby will only get milk when they suck with proper latch so doesn't aide nipple confusion either. They were £15 for 3. I'll be trying them for the first time at the weekend do will report back then Grin maybe that is the answer to all the bottle refusers?

The cups the health visitors are talking about with the straw holes are given to you for free at your weaning visit. (although this might only be in Scotland I'm not sure?)

C was fine just a deep scratch. He was still quite happy to go to soft play and if anything was better behaved and ate all lunch/dinner without the need for persuasion bribery I think maybe he should bang his head more often lol.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 07/02/2012 20:57

just not jet

MamaMaiasaura · 07/02/2012 21:14

Hello Smile in centre parcs and. I haven't managed to catch up on thread but needed some advice. J nappies are very dry, she is still feeding and mostly very happy. Should I be concerned? X

Jnice · 08/02/2012 01:27

Hi mama I think the magic number is at least 5 wet nappies in 24hrs. Less than this and I'd get her checked out.

Enjoy CP!

Engelsmeisje · 08/02/2012 07:51

Is it significantly warmer in your accommodation than you have it at home mama ? Could be dehydrating her a bit (along with this horrible weather). We've put a bowl of water next to the radiator in M's room as his skin has really dried out with the dry air.

Engelsmeisje · 08/02/2012 07:55

scheh if you want to build up your supply so that you can have a stock of EBM then (I know someone else has said this before) I would pump first thing in the morning after first feed as you're likely to be most full (especially if C only feeds from one side), and then pump after every feed, even if it's only for 5 minutes. You should be able to get a bit each time. Better than emptying yourself out too close to another feed.

penguin get well soon.

Engelsmeisje · 08/02/2012 08:02

ed we use the calma teat by medela which sounds the same as the bottles you're describing (think it has the same name in English). If M doesn't suck he doesn't get any milk. He's never refused a bottle but then he has had bottles regularly since he was born (had to give him some formula the first few days after birth).

jnice happy birthday to DS1 (or as we say in Holland Gefeliciteerd! )

Had our 4 month check-up on Monday and we're going to start trying M on some pureed fruit/veg when we get back from England in 2 weeks. Our "HV" agreed that it sounds like he's ready (he keeps smacking his lips when he sees us eating - so cute!).

FuzzzyDuck · 08/02/2012 09:23

enj how exciting to be starting with some purée soon!! I'm waiting till S is over 5 months (start of march) then I'll be giving her some to try. Smile

We had a bit of a better night here. She was down for 8pm then I realized at 11pm that I hadn't put the right nappy on (I use a size up at night otherwise she is soaked in the morning) so had to change her. Gave her 5oz around the same time. She half woke up but settled back to sleep pretty quick. Woke at 4am so gave dummy, then same at 6 then was laying in her cot chatting and screaming (!!) from 7.30ish.

Hope everyone else had good night

Scheherezade · 08/02/2012 10:34

Fd, you could try dream feeding her every night at 11? That's what we do, apparently if you are bottle feeding you don't even have to pick them up, just tilt them up a bit and slide bottle in. But I pick C up to bf him, he doesn't wake up, feeds asleep and goes back down asleep.

Can't begin to describe how much easier life is now he can settle himself off for sleep. Last night he woke up for a feed and didn't go straight back to sleep, so I put him down, he cried for 2 1/2 mins and was gone! Previously I'd have been up for an hour rocking and singing and doing things that ultimately just kept him awake. This morning he went down without any fuss, just grunted at his rabbit a bit, haha.

FuzzzyDuck · 08/02/2012 11:03

Yeah I might try the feed just when I'm going to bed till she is sleeping right through again. I'm away sat morning till mon night so she will be staying with my parents. Haven't really warned them yet about all the night waking that's ahead.... Grin

I'm trying the same with the sleep. During day if we are home, I put her on my bed to nap, but she just wants to hold or touch my hand. Normally I would stroke her head etc but just now I'm just laying next to her while she plays about with her bunny. The eyes are rolling.. She has her hand waving about looking for mine to hold, so cute Smile.

Right time to do some housework!! Iv got washing coming out my ears here!!! How can one little person generate so much!

SconesForTea · 08/02/2012 11:09

Morning everyone. I'm on my phone so won't do a proper catch-up as too laborious Blush

DD2 has started to take a bottle At the weekend she took 2oz then 4oz wielded by my DSis and then, miracle of miracles, went down without a bf A good thing too as I'd had rather too much wine. We've been giving her a bottle religiously every night even if it is only a couple of oz, and even if the poor baby is screaming in refusal Sad In that case I slide the teat in while she's at the breast, which seems to work. Have other bottle-refusers tried this?

Tonight we're trying a full feed and DH putting her to bed, I don't hold out much hope but I'm not too bothered so long as she takes the bottle.

Shock at the thought of weaning already!! DD2 is way behind most of yours, as a November baby. I hated weaning with DD1, she just wasn't ready until about 9m. This time I'll go with the flow and won't keep trying to stuff puree down her if she doesn't want it.

BB3 · 08/02/2012 17:43

Hello ladies, have taken the time while it's quiet on the thread to catch up a bit but cannot remember anything now!

Weaning [groan] I am not looking forward to that. Girls will be 5 months soon and I am definitely going to try and make it to 6+ months if I can! Oh the thought of double the food being spat, thrown and puked up everywhere!!! Grin

MamaMaiasaura · 08/02/2012 21:08

Thanks for advice. Ended up speaking to out of hours who said shed need to be seen first thing, but she had lovely wet nappy first thing and several today. Phew.

Re weaning planning on blw again like I did with ds2. J been mouthing when we eat but I think that's her imitating. I let her taste things like grape or banana on her tongue but not ingested. She seems to
Like flavours. There was an article about purree fed being more over weight but I don't know full details, on bbc site. I purée fed ds1 from 16 weeks as that was almost 12 years ago. It was hell. He would gag even on baby rice. Hv pressured he needed 3 meals a day and pushed me to cut down bfeeds to increae his solids. With ds2 more research had been done and instead of following what was done with ds1 I followed ds2 lead. He would mouth food (like chunks of melon, carrots etc). So much easier and less stressful for all. Blush sorry so long.

Loving CP. first time for j swimming and she's been loving it. Have had her snug in sling for walks. Been very cold but dry. Ds1 and dh on way back from outdoor pools now. Dh been cycling ds2 around in trailer and ds1 been riding his own bike and I've been walking. Live it here and we are having such a brilliant time, no housework either as have maid service Grin Will be coming back here soon!

Scheherezade · 08/02/2012 22:09

That's how I want to try it mama. Am so upset at the thought of him not being reliant on me for feeds, but would be nice to be able to go to stables and not be in a rush to get back! So glad J has wet as well, must be such a relief!

DP just welled up at OBEM and he's not normally like that at all, bless Grin

TallyBear · 08/02/2012 22:13

Looking forward to more lovely advice on weaning in the months ahead Grin. Not a clue at this end!!

TMI alert....anyone using gaviscon noticed that the poo is a bit more solid/thick? Is it supposed to have that effect? Had hv this morning and would have asked but he didn't poo until this evening Smile.

Mama where are you? Missed that...

Bad news here is that we are also back to night feeds as Seb doesn't want a lot in one go so I've had to reduce feeds and go back to 6 a day. At least he's not spewing everywhere (so far..)

MamaMaiasaura · 08/02/2012 22:28

Tally - J been waking at night too. I think partly because it's been so cold and she's felt cold and partly that she's needing to boost the supply as will be 16 weeks on Saturday.

Scheh - I missed obem this week, was it good?

MamaMaiasaura · 08/02/2012 22:28

Tally - at longleat centre parcs. Smile

Scheherezade · 08/02/2012 22:41

Tally- we had a free NHS class on weaning at 8weeks, do you have anything similar?

Mama, it was very good, though a bit upsetting, a baby got stuck and it was pretty traumatic.
