Here we go, was going to write something lovely and meaningful, but I'm not very good at it so I'll leave that to someone else.....

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Diege · 11/01/2006 13:18

Just remembered something funny from this morning. The cat, 'Red' (or 'big cat' as the children call him!)followed us all the way to school (1.5 miles). It was funny at first, but then I became increasingly panicky as he really slowed us down, what with having to stop and 'scent' every bush we passed with his chin! When we got to the gates I was stumped as to what to do, as he wouldn't make it back alone. It the end (as I was cross by now), I just barked 'Wait here' (which he didn't)and went in.By the time we came out he had turned round and was walking back.
Thought maybe he was feeling neglected, but it turned out the cat flap was shut and he couldn't get his breakfast, and obviously couldn;t wait!
Like having 4 kids at times! Sorry if i've bored everyone, just found it quite funny (more in retropsect!).

novadandypowder · 11/01/2006 14:56

gotta love cats Diege - always thinking with their stomachs!

Nat had her second set of jabs today, and screamed the surgery down again. They actually gave her some ibuprofen while we were there to calm her down a bit! She's now sleeping it off across my chest.

Must say it's not me with the IT skills, it's DH. He threw a sickie yesterday and spent the whole day playing with the website.

We've had some fashion disasters with DH trying to dress Nat. I pmsl at what he put her in on saturday and promptly went to change her . Does anyone with dd's put them in dresses? I think they are so impractical - got some good tips for finding pretty dungarees on the style section.

Londoner · 11/01/2006 16:04

Afternoon all,

BEKs, fab, Monday at noon it is then.... thanks so much for offering me a lift you're so generous! I'll get the bus though, and meet you there as it's easy peasy. Now we just need to find out how many the table is for....
Looking forward to your pics btw...
Diege, lol at you and your cat, perhaps you could get him a lead....
nova lol at your husband's 'baby fashion disasters', can remember some real shockers over the years here as well!! You'll have to edit Natalie's wardrobe so it is a 'capsule wardrobe' (the one they're always banging on about in magazines....) where everything combines and you can't go wrong . Mind you, that still wouldn't stop dh's leaving buttons/poppers undone or done up wrong and leaving stuff untucked or tucked in when it shouldn't be.....

goldenoldie · 11/01/2006 16:25

Diege - got my health visitor friend to go with me. It was fine. Boys just had the BCG today and will go back in a couple of weeks for the 5 in 1. Asleep now, will see if the are extra grumpy when they wake.

I'm fed up of washing bottles too.........

Londoner - I'm waiting for the Nursery Nurse to call me back. She has agreed in principle - just need to sort out times/days/money.

Found another surestart group with a keep fit class and a creche - will try it out.
ChaCha - I was dissapointed by the first episode of the new ER series on C4. What did you think?

Boys were up every two hours last night so I'm feeling very sorry for myself today. Strange, because the night before they slept from 11pm to 5:30 am.

Nat is now 5.5, and Ezra is 5.3 kilos. Nat is back up to the 75th percentile and Ezra is between the 50 - 75 percentile, so I'm very happy with that.

Enthusia - good luck on the application. When does it have to be in by?

Diege - started my slimming world diet yesterday. Craving something sweet already. Did you watch celebrity fat club? I love Harvey - he is sooooooooo rude to them!

twinkle1 · 11/01/2006 20:06

twinkle1 · 11/01/2006 20:09

ChaCha · 11/01/2006 20:48

Hi Ladies,

Thank you all as always. I really have some great support on here. DS slept last night at 2am and woke up at 7 to feed. Slept again from 8am until 10am so I really did feel a lot better. Can't wait to get him weighed tomorrow so I can either continue b/f with the confidence that he's gaining weight and percevere with the constant demands or look at the top up option which will hopefully give us all better nights. Either of which, i'm ready!!

Had to go out today and again spent most of my time in a parenting room - this time it was Boots! Am certainly doing the rounds. Anyhow, met some other mums while nursing and exchanged numbers with two - one of them had a fab sling (much nicer looking than my huggababy) and gave me a demonstration and lots of good advice on parenting. Was good to talk to others in same boat - am glad i've met some other mums in my area (one lady lives in the next street, what a small world!!)

If any of you are looking for a good movie I recommend 'Mind Hunters' I quite enjoyed it, keeps the mind going. 'Spanglish' gave me a good laugh and was a bit weepy too and we've just rented 'Crash' - going to watch that later.

Nova - Pics are lovely. I've done similar, each page is week by week, and I try to dedicate 20 mins of each day to upload pics and write captions (spoken by Z of course!) Have also done a Special Thanks page as I haven't sent out all thank you cards (still masses of names on list left to do!)a family tree and special occassions page. For anyone interested it comes with a sitebuilder so it's as easy as ABC. I've also paid a one off fee of 10quid to have it password protected as only want family/friends to view it on the net. It's really simple.
Can send link if anyone interested.

And Hi to you Twinkle. Congrats on job!

Enthusia - I want to work when he's older. But can't teach again. Want to work from home. Or do a couple of hours of an afternoon. Just don't know what options I have working from home. Any ideas?

Diege · 11/01/2006 21:37

Evening!Good to hear everyone's news. Big cat hasn't moved all night, totally shattered after his hike (ok, he manged a limp to food bowl and back - you are so right Nova!). Re: DH and baby clothes, I never let DH near them with clothes - his worst was dressing them in PJs for a play barn - the shame!!, Agree about dresses - I have one or two for Libby, but am always let down by the tights situation - a twiglet in a sock is the image that springs to mind, even with newborn size! .
London: your comment about a lead for Big Cat reminds me of something that happended to a friend of mine. She was detremined to give her cat some exercise, so put it on one of those extension leads. She was embarrassed beyond belief when it headed off up the nearest tree, leaving her to wait it out in the middle of Birkenhead .
Golden: so glad the injections went ok. Your surestart group with creche & fitness class sounds great! No excuses then! Wish we had something like that round here . BTW, has slimming world introduced you yet to the joys of the Muller Light yogurt?!! They may help with the sweet cravings (lemon cheesecake flavour isn;t too bad), though they do taste really artificial . I think they are 'free', or minimal 'sins' (don't you just hate the 'sins' thing - I don't count a rich tea biscuit as particualrly sinful, but then I am obsessed with them (my chosen sin this time). People think I'm mad, as they choose alcohol or cake, curries etc..and can't see the attraction .
TWINKLE/RODEO: Friday the 10th it is! Really looking forward to it . Twinkle: poor you with the jabs, and glad Josh is better today. Must have been stressful to say the least. Congrats on job offer - wow!! Are you going to take it do you think?
ChaCha - glad you had a better night last night and feel refreshed. Everything seems better after a good kip I think!
Well, must go and see how the BB house is doing!
Diege and Liberty

ChaCha · 12/01/2006 08:54

Morning all,

Guess who had slept from 1.30am till 7.45am this morning!!!!
(I didn't wake him up to feed him though - is this okay?) Have fed him now and am ready to take him for our 6 week check and register birth. Hadn't done that yet either as we were undecided on full name. We were going to make his surname my father and FIL's christian name but DH has now decided on my father's name and his family name - doesn't sound the same but we don't want to upset his folks either by taking away family name away. Hmm..

So hoping he has put on weight.

see yall later x

Diege · 12/01/2006 09:05

Morning! Wow, Chacha, what a great night's sleep!Bet you feel like you've been drugged! Good luck with check and weigh-in . Name business sounds confusing...hope you are happy with the outcome (sounds a potential minefield!). Driving lesson for me ar 11; getting nervous alrady, but lookign forward to getting my nails done after . Speak later,
Diege .

Enthusia · 12/01/2006 09:27

Morning all

Well done ChaCha on the sleep, bet you needed that. I always find I am more tired when I have had more sleep though. Not that I can complain Sam slept from 10pm til 8am yesterday and last night he did from 10 til 6 for a feed and is still asleep now. Mind you he has taken to have real screaming fits between 7pm and 9pm qnd I don't know why. There are times he just wont be soothed at all. Other times I just rock him on my knees and he startes spaced out, but won't drop off and if you move him he screams again. This is a new occurence for this week, although it has been building for a couple of weeks now. It makes eating etc very difficult. Anyone got any ideas or clues. I am going to try the hungry baby formula at the 6pm feed and see if it is that, as he always guzzles his 9pm feed down and we have to do it at about 8.30 becuase he is so distraught.

Anyway, good luck Diege on your driving lesson. I used to be so nervous beforehand too.

Beks and Londoner, don't spose you know the best way to Blackheath from Reigate do you. Multimap says the M25 to J3 then the A20, it says it will take about an hour, any other ideas? Also what's parking like?

ChaCha - I would like the link to your website hoster please, sounds like a good one!

Still no word on Machester yet, will let you know!!!

Right better wake little one for his 9am feed or the whole day will e put out again like yesterday.

Byyyeeee

Londoner · 12/01/2006 09:36

Morning girls!

ChaCha, congrats on the sleeping....absolutely right not to wake him this morning...looks like you 've reached the top of a very steep hill to find level ground at last, and -fingers crossed-long may you go on in this way now. Good luck at Zayn's check, bet he's put on loads!
Diege, lol at your knackered cat!
Enjoy you driving lesson! (You will soon be a liberated lady).
p.s. - is the cat coming to the nail parlour today?

Grrr, horrid youth mugged my ds1 on train home from school, I am not a violent person but my insincts have me boiling and want to go and get son's property back. Of course this is not poss, transport police are taking a statement today and are very helpful bunch.

Londoner · 12/01/2006 09:43

Hi Enthusia...cross-posted there,

Sorry don't know the roads too well as don't drive and tend to be a bit of a day-dream as a passenger, but I reckon BEKs can help you out. There is pay and display parking by Blackheath station and also by the post office though. Multi map is great isn't it! Looking forward to Monday here.
ChaCha, would love to see your pics too.

LilJ · 12/01/2006 10:28

Hi all.

Had a lovely day in Oxfordshire yesterday with a great lunch at a fantastic pub that just got voted Oxfordshire's Dining Pub of the Year. They were very nice about having a baby in the dining room and apart from having to change Nathaniel on the cold bathroom floor everything went very well.

We then went shopping in Bicester Village where we bought quite a lot of stuff for him. I decided to brave trying on a pair of trousers at Nicole Fahri which was a massive mistake! I think I need about three months of pilates to even think of trying on trousers again. I've pretty much always been a size ten and really want to return to my pre-pregnancy size without having to buy 'fat' clothes in between, so I guess I'll be stuck in stretchy skirts for quite a while. I will say that the shopping centre had such great facilities for babies - very clean well fitted rooms to change and feed the baby - much better than a cold pub floor!

Chacha - I hope all goes well with the weigh in today. Nathaniel was still not quite at birth weight last Saturday and so having to monitor his food intake all week hoping he'll be very chubby by this Saturday when the midwife comes again (she won't discharge me until he's back to original weight). I've been expressing to find out out how much milk I'm producing and so he's getting pretty much all his food from the bottle whether it's formula or breast milk. I'm hoping that expressing will also up the amount of milk I'm producing so we can cut down on the formula intake, but I'm OK with sticking with how things are working right now which is about 50/50.

Well should hop in the shower while he's nicely asleep ...

J xx

goldenoldie · 12/01/2006 10:55

ChaCha - glad you had a good night. My boys went from 12:30 - 6am, but had to have one in bed with me for part of the night and the other in a car seat! Anything to get some sleep.

Enthusia - we get screaming fits at the same time. I've taken to just putting them to bed earlier - which means that I have to retire to the bedroom too. Seems to work. Maybe Sam is tired?

Londoner - Sorry to hear about DS1. One of the things you dread about being a perent is that you can not always be there to protect him. My DS1 makes his own way to school and back on the bus. Just feel it is a matter of time before he gets robbed/accosted/assualted...........where was your DS1 mugged?

LilJ - your day out sounds fab. I've started my diet - let me know if you fancy slimming world? I'm keen on doing a bit of exercise, but I am sooooooooo lazy unless I do with someone else. Do you fancy doing something together - badminton, power walking, exercise class?

JenJam and I are going to the cinema next Tuesday at the Rio (mother/carer and baby session). Anyone else fancy it?

Rodeo · 12/01/2006 11:09

Morning,

You poor ds Londoner What a grubby little shit What did he take from him? How is he today?

Good luck with everything today Chacha, I'd say if he's sleeping like that he'll be getting plenty from you

And remember that babies are much better at stripping the milk out of boobs than any breast pump, so the baby will get out much more than you can. I think we can get too hung up on how many mls we can produce with a pump, it doesn't reflect on the amount we have got in there

And that concludes my bf advice of the day

Diege your cat is hilarious! My cat barely has the enthusiasm to get her backside off the sofa (unless it's to try her luck next door)!

Enthusia, think the screaming will be a touch of colic, Jess was exactly the same at that time of night. And the only thing that soothed her was to be rocked over my shoulder, which is horrible at that time of night. It has only recently stopped and I think it goes for most babies around 3 months. HTH

Ooooooooohhhhhh!!!!!! Did any one watch Lost??? I was scared to death (it doesn't take much) it was brill! Cannot wait for 2nd series!

And (sorry, my street cred takes a dive now) but is it just me or are they really horrid to Jodie in the BB house? she may be a bit of a slapper but they really gang up on her! Think Pete is just plain nasty, George is a tit and Barrymore is a pathetic paranoid wreck! It's just embarrassing!

Hi all, it's been a while since I've posted - computer virus has been fully banished - so hopefully will be able to post more regularly.
Chacha - could you send link to Web Builder site thing - might be worth a try, have been thinking about doing something like that for a while, but have never got round to it - prehaps cos am fundementally lazy!?
Enthusia - Thomas has sometimes had the screaming abdabs early evening - a couple of times we found that he was infact hungry - despite being fed only an hour to two hours before! We have now increased 6pm bottle to 8oz and this seems to help him go from 6pm till 12 - 1am, then he wakes for 4 or 5am feed then again around 7 or 8 - not too bad really! Alternatively he has had real bad wind after 6pm feed and only settles when it has gone, or he has sicked a bit of it up - then he simply quiets straight down and goes to sleep! HTH?

Had to take Thomas to Drs yesterday - he has a really bad rash on face, chest and back of neck - he doesn't appear unwell at all (no temp, and is feeding fine) he just has an unsightly rash. Skin has also gone vv dry where rash is not so prominent. Dr said it was an urticaria or milk rash and prescribed some ointment and a bath emollient. Ointment makes him vv greasy and at the moment it doesn't appear to be easing off at all. Anyone else experienced this? Will see how it goes, but if no better by next Tues (when we are off to have first set of jabs ) will mention to Dr again to see if it could be anything else or there is anything else we can do to treat it.
Question - do we give Calpol before or after jabs?

Thanks for help

BEKsmum · 12/01/2006 12:05

Morning girls one handed typing here as Thomas wakes up everytime i put him in the cot - sly little monkey looked out the corner of his eye to see if i was watching him last time - boy do they learn quick

Enthusia leave it with me & i'll work out some directions for you.

Cads can you make it on Monday? I woke up in the middle of the night feeling guilty that we hadn't mentioned you when you're in Godstone so officially a Southish london girl

Jenjam good to hear you're coming along on Monday too - we'll all have to leave by about 2:30 for the school run!

Londoner is your ds alright? What a little shit that thug was, hope ds didn't lose too much & that he wasn't too scared.

Diege lol at your friend & her cat how hilarious, your one sounds like a handful too!

Right best go & pay ds1 some attention speak to you all later Beks

novadandypowder · 12/01/2006 12:21

Wow, dd is sleeping in her chair. This may not sound like a big deal, but she never normally sleeps anywhere other than mummy during the day. I'm now too frightened to move in case I wake her up - lol!.

Londoner - how awful for your DS . All I seem to see recently around here are those yellow witness boards for muggings/gun crime/robbery/assault. I don't wear my rings anymore if I'm going out walking anywhere.

I'm off to the cinema on monday - was inspired by the tales on here. However I get the joy of a leather armchair and footrest in my local cinema

Bugger - she just woke herself up by hitting the jangly toy on her chair.

Browniechick - best to give calpol after jabs IMO, wait an hour or so - they usually sleep straight after and wake up a bit grumpy. Nat had her second set yesterday and was very difficult to settle last night.

swimming lesson today - my god I've got to take a HUGE bag of stuff with me! Am going to drive to the pool I think.

Chacha - glad to hear you've had a couple of good nights, long may it continue

Rodeo - I'm the other way around, I think Jodie is a very damaged girl and that Pete is great. We are soooo addicted to this years CBB, it's such a shame that the 3 most interesting people are up for eviction.

LilJ · 12/01/2006 12:21

JenJam & Golden - I'm definitely up for cinema on Tuesday and secretly love silly girly films. Meet in the lobby?

Golden - I'm definitely up for some exercise. I was thinking of joining gym in Crouch End where they have a creche, but I think he's got to be 3 months before they'll take him, also gym is expensive ... so any alternative would be good - let's strategise on Tuesday.
