Here we go, was going to write something lovely and meaningful, but I'm not very good at it so I'll leave that to someone else.....

LaylaandSethsmum · 01/01/2006 23:20

hi brownie whereabouts in Midlands are you? i'm in Derbyshire and so is Rodeo we are ( hopefully ) going to meet up at some point if we can get organised enough!! Are you near Derby?

Diege · 02/01/2006 10:50

Morning everyone! Jenjam it wasn't as much a shock to the system as you might imagine (apart from dealing with morning sickness and a 5 month old ). To be honest, getting pregnant with dd3 was the most physically difficult, perhaps because of age (ok, only 34 at the time of no.3 pregnancy), or more probab;y fatigue with a 2 and 3 year old, and working full-time. You can see why I'm thinking of changing my job! Just really enjoying being at home at the moment, and have another few months untilI'm due back.
All going out for lunch today before nursery/school reopens tommorrow (phew!).BTW, oh the irony about LIbby's feeds! (now seems to be going through a growth spurt and is draining the 5oz bottles and waking earlier in the night . Just when ypou think you've got it sorted! While I remember, read something bizarre a while ago that said babies are 'programmed' to test your limits and take control, but will stop when they reach a point at which it may be harmful to them I (ie. you might throw them out the window). This supposedly accounts for why they eventually sleep through the night, and colic stops (for some) at 3 months. Pretty dodgy stuff I think, but quite funny!

browniechick · 02/01/2006 12:02

Hi Lasm - I am in Warwickshire - am currently having pc problems - potential viruses! All stemming from dh trying to upload a gorgeous photo of ds from his mobile! So may be a bit of a stranger over next few days till confident that it has gone. ANyone else near (ish) Warwickshire?

Busyalexsmummy · 02/01/2006 12:10

Hi, apologies for being absent for the last cpl of weeks but its been so busy!
We had a good xmas, had MIL up for the day, it was really nice, ds1 found it all a bit too much this yr though and ended up throwing tantrums and having to be put to bed early!
Had my sister down thurs+fri after xmas, she was how she usually is but I bit my tongue and didnt cause an arguement! She sannoyed me though as supposed to be coming wednesday but her dp rang up saying she passed out and has the flu, then they travelled down thurs-the flu???? hahahaha, I had the flu when pregnant with ds1, not nice, was flat on my back in bed and couldnt move/eat/drink etc for 4 days! THAT was the flu! Wasnt impressed that she thought that it was ok to come down and infect my 22month old and 5 wk old turns out when she did arrive, she didnt look ill at all, I think she had a cold at most as now the boys have runny noses and sniffles....again.

Alfie is great, we now have some kind of rountine, he generally is awake all evening, I feed him till 9pm, then he has 5oz of formula, we manage to get him settled by 12 most nights(although last night was 1.15am!) then he goes through till 7.30-8am, which is fine by me, Id rather he did that than wake every 3 hrs!

Am fed up with all the bank holidays now! cant wait for some shops to be open! didnt spend too much on ds's at xmas so that I could get lots of new clothes for them after xmas! cant wait to go shopping now! hopefully am going tommorrow with MIL.
Also have my £200 from dp for xmas for clothes for me! yay! everything is either falling down/still a little too tight!

my new yrs resolutions-

  1. Learn to drive, get car by end of yr
  2. lose a few pounds
  3. Start being a little more selfish-start having beauty treatments at least every 2 wks!

well best go! hope everyones well!
ps twinkle-did invite work this time?

L & Alfie- 5wks

Busyalexsmummy · 02/01/2006 12:12

Oh, Alfie got weighed friday, hes now 9lb 4oz! little chubber!(not really!!-alex was that at 1 wk old!!)

ChaCha · 02/01/2006 13:15

Wish I had time to catch up with all the posts on this new thread. Managed to read only a couple, must try again later.

DS is poorly, blocked nose and has the mother of all wind. DH and I have the cold. Lovely! Is breaking my heart to see DS like this - he was also v.sick for the first time He's looking drained but sleeping well this morning so hope that's a good sign. Well the sacrifices have begun, cancelled our night out last night to bomb up the motorway home to make sure he was back at home and where I was near what i know. DH has been asleep until now from 8am as he stayed up with him. Hate to say that I actually fell asleep with DS while he was feeding - fortunately was in the middle of bed with loads of pillows round us .. that's scary! Must succumb and pop a DVD on or the like.

Oh Diege - I am a sucker for Quorn Fajita's. Think this is the reason for DS's terrible wind. I make the Quorn pieces with the Discovery Fajita spice (I add peppers, onions tomatoes when cooking) and pop in wraps with cheese and sour cream. Am going to have to lay off them now though. I am a bad mummy!!!!

Thanks for listening, will catch up with more posts later.

ChaCha · 02/01/2006 14:10

Karma - There really is a great deal of support on the b/f thread. Was really, really worried this morning and thinking of packing it in.

What can I gave a 4 week old for a cold pls?

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 02/01/2006 15:07

Afternoon all.

Chacha, what's happening that's making you think of giving up? Are you exhausted with the long feeds? As for the wind, there is some dispute about mum's diet causing windy babes but I think there is a link. We've started using infacol but TBH she doesn't have much problem getting the wind up. When Ella had a blocked nose I used Nasosal drops (Boots sell it) which is just saline to soften the snot. She would also have a big sneeze which helped get rid of it. My MW recomended children's Olbas Oil even though it states child must be over 3 months.

BAM, what are sisters like, eh? Sounds like she had "man-flu"!! Your resolutions sound great, I may have to consider using your no.2 & 3, if you don't mind.

Well, we had the mother of all bad nights last night. Fed her at 7 followed by a bath & cuddle. Sounds good so far? Well, she decided that staying awake was far more interesting. One crying spell later (with much gulping of air) & I decided to give her some gripe water. I popped a tiny amount in then gave DP the syringe whilst I went off to the loo. Big mistake. When I returned, DP had given her the rest which made a spectacular projectile vomit all over the kitchen. It must have been a full stomach's worth too. It then took me till 2am to get enough milk into her for her to go back to sleep. I even swore at her which made me feel like a very bad mummy. After her 3 hrs of constant feeding, she's boosted my supply so I decided this morning that I'd start expressing. Whilst pumping (oo-er!) I was gazing down at her to help the let-down & she gave me the most lovely smile, so she was definately forgiven for her mammoth crying last night. I was quite chuffed with my first expressing experience, got 2oz off the boob she'd just fed off, then another 2oz just now. I just need to decide whethor to freeze it or get DP to give it tomorrow morning whilst I have a lie-in....! Hmmmm. What do you think??

Diege · 02/01/2006 15:09

BAM, your new year resolutions sound great! I am also hoping to pass my driving test, having had lessons sporadically over the least few years, but keeping on giving up! (I have actually passed my theory test, but have to take it again as it's 'expired' ). Also need to loose a stone and a half, but am going to take it slowly this time. LOL re: 'flu'! - its overuse being a pet hate of mine, along with the notorious 'manflu' .
Chacha: another quorn freak! I love the fahitas too - really yummy, and also like using it in cottage pie and the pieces in stir fries. Had a successful lunch out today in 'posh'(ish) restaurant. The waitress took a sharp intake of breath when she saw our entourage, but they behaved perfectly until the very end when dds started to get a bit 'silly' so we quickly left! Always feel pleased when we achieve something like this, although 2 hours there were peppered with a few 'if you don't sit down/stop shouting/take your hands out your knickers ' the lady will ask you to leave' .
Hope everyone else is enjoying the bank holiday, though agree about the shops!

goldenoldie · 02/01/2006 16:22

Happy New year everyone.

LilJ - my boys seem to go off to sleep better in car seats rather than cot, but I have them in grow bags/sleeping bags now which seems to help. (Tip - they are on sale in TK Maxx).

Sometimes putting them to sleep on their side (with arm sticking out so they can't roll over on face) with a rolled up blanket towel behind them works too.

Re: being sick. Mine always sleep on a couple of folded pillowcases. That way I just remove the soiled pillow case, rather than having to change the whole bed.

Ezra's reflux has been improved with the use of Gaviscon, but am having to give to him at every feed, not just twice a day as GP suggested. Back to GP for a review later this week.

Taking him to peadiatric cranial osteopath this week - will let you know how I get on.

New Years Resolution - to lose 3 stones! I am the largest I have ever been at a size 16 - was a 10 before this twin baby lark. Happy to just get back to a 12.

Will join Slimming World next week. Can't join this week as I need to eat all the chocs in the house first!

JenJam - I'm up for a local meet. Don't fancy my chances of getting double buggy into town without lots of hassle. I'm happy to host a coffee morning/afternoon if others are happy to come to me? I'm in N1. Nova, LilJ, anyone else?

Nova - parking is easy here, I can give you a residents visitors permit.

Only just finished opening the boys pressies, and my sister reminded me of another lot that are on the way. Overwhelmed by others generosity.

DH bought me a cam-corder thingy as part of my Christmas pressie, so I can get lots of film of the twins as babies and record them growing up.

I assume everyone has the 'jelly-belly'? But does anyone else have skin on the belly area that feels like sandpaper? I have an area about as large as my hand that feel really rough. The rest/surrounding skin is soft/normal. Any ideas what this rough skin is about?

Kristingle · 02/01/2006 19:18

Golden - we gave DS1 the infant gaviscon after every feed. As i was Bf him it was a bit of a pain to make up a bottle after each feed, so we made up one days supply in a bottle and gave it after each Bf - i think it was about 10mls - is that right? I guess you could also do it in a cup, but its such a pain to cup feed a small baby... [lazy mother emoticon]. I thought it was meant to sit in the top of the stomach above the milk and stop it coming back up?

I forgot to say last time - we were also prescribed a special formula for him called Neutramigen ( sp?). Smelled awful. I was meant to use it for when he was older but he grew out of the reflux at about 6 months so didnt need it

Kristingle · 02/01/2006 19:25

Karma - neither - get DP to give it to her in the middle of the night so you can sleep through. i alreday have 8oz in the fridge tonight for that very purpose........

....but then I am a VERY bad BF mummy who is already letting her baby have EBM in a bottle (from his dad though)

and your DP IS the one who wanted to be involved in feeding her!!!!!

How is your thrush? cant believe your GP is such a moron - I got all teh meds I asked for from mine

goldenoldie · 02/01/2006 19:46

Kristingle - thanks for the info. I will ask GP alternatives/additions to Gaviscon this week. I put the Gaviscon in with the formula so it's not a big hassle.

ChaCha · 02/01/2006 21:31

Just popped home to get change of clothes.
My little one is in hospital. Went to A and E, some kind of virus. He's on drip now being observed. Defintely overnight.

Think of us.

tessnutsroasting · 03/01/2006 07:05

Oh ChaCha, poor you and poor baby. Definately thinking of you all.

Kristingle · 03/01/2006 07:26

chacha - whats the news?

Diege · 03/01/2006 09:14

Oh Chacha, we are all thinking of you both, and hoping ds a speedy recovery.

BEKsmum · 03/01/2006 10:21

Oh Chacha sweetheart, hope you are doing ok and wishing Zayn a speedy recovery, let us know how he's doing won't you when you get a chance.

Rodeo · 03/01/2006 11:00

Oh Chacha, poor little Zayn Hope he is much better this morning. 2 of the December babie's were in hospital over Christmas with what seems like colds which got much worse, to the point they needed oxygen. They are a lot better now though, lets hope Zayn is the same.

Hope everyone had a lovely new year, we were miserable in the end Diege and did stay in, but it was very nice though. We watched the Jools Holland and then the fireworks on the telly too Lil!

Hope you had a lovely birthday Twinkle!

We took our tree down yesterday so Christmas seems like a distant memory! We taking it to be chipped later today All the toys have found 'homes' so they're not in various piles anymore!

Right better go I've got a cup of tea waiting for me downstairs.

Will be thinking of you Chacha

LilJ · 03/01/2006 12:36

ChaCha - hope all is getting better and Zayn is back to being a healthy bouncing boy. What an awful thing for you to go through.

Today is the first day DH returns to work so I've got DS all to myself , but haven't been allowed to have a shower yet ... but did sleep in until 10:30 am - after a 7:30 feed. Am perfecting my one-handed typing with wide awake baby on my lap - hoping he'll nod off soon so I can become a clean Mummy.

Expressed for the first time yesterday as I want to try and cut down on the amount of formula we're giving him. Once I figured out how to use the d*mned thing it was very easy so now I'm going to try and express once or twice a day to build up my supply.

JenJam & GoldenOldie - would love to meet up and am pretty flexible about where so GO if you know a place that is double-buggy friendly in Islington probably our best bet.

Oh oh I think I need to change a nappy so I'll sign off now.

J xx

Londoner · 03/01/2006 13:02

Hello all and Happy New Year to you!

Sorry to disappear like that, I just couldn't manage to get on here as well as cope with everything else. Sorry to hear ChaCha's son is so ill, and sending strength to them all that Zayn is better very soon.xx
Golden, am also size 14/16 from a size 10/12, but figure it's early days, took 9 months to get bigger so leave at least that to return to semblence of 'normal'?(Have finished all my chocs already and now eyeing up the kids' stash...).
Busy, like your n.y.resolutions, very good! Keep us updated on your progress please...
A belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO TWINKLE!
Had to attend a hospital appt this morning for discussion on removal of dd1 ear tag, should get op soon they reckon could be this month, hope it all goes smoothly, I know I'm going to find the whole thing really really tough.
Elizabeth doing well, lots of smiling and 'galloping' on the changing mat and 'chatting', so lovely. Must make appt for her 1st jabs, ug.. ds1 14th birthday this weekend, my little baby is now 6 foot and shaves!
JenJam good idea for the list and meet up, although term-time during the week is best for me as weekends are always so full...... I'm in Greenwich, London.
Hi to everyone else too!

novadandypowder · 03/01/2006 13:11

cyber {{{{{{hugs}}}}}}} for you Chacha. Was thinking of you yesterday actually whilst watching Grease xx I hope Zayn makes a speedy recovery.

NYE was great. Went to a friends house for dinner then got home to put Nat to bed at 8. Watched Bad Santa, which was very good, then crept into Nats room to see in midnight and watch all the fireworks from her bedroom window. I can't believe she slept through them all!

We hosted a dinner party on new years day, and it was lovely to have a house full of friends again (as well as lots of people to hold baby!)

However, yesterday was full of washing up (well - loading dishwasher ), and generally taking it easy.

Sad that DH has gone back to work. He did manage to finish painting the pictures in the nursery though and it looks fab.

I can recommend sleeeping bags, they are a genius invention.

Will def be up for meeting Golden, LilJ, and Jen, fridays are currently the only bad day for me, but i'm hoping to get her signed up to a swimming class at some point soon.

I had the joy of my period returning last week - it was sooo painful.

love nova and natalie xx

goldenoldie · 03/01/2006 13:46

ChaCha - thinking of you.

LilJ - I've been told that starbucks are child/babyfrendly? Or we could do Giraffe - again.

Londoner - I will be back to work next June, so need to lose the weight by then (she says after polishing off two toasted begels with cheese!). Can't afford to buy lots of new 'business' wear, and some of my work suits were bought just before I got pregnant so I've hardly worn them.

JenJam - weekdays, term-time is best for me too. Lunchtimes preferably.

LilJ · 03/01/2006 15:56

GoldenOldie, JenJam & Nova - so how about one day next week? I'm happy with Giraffe or Starbucks (except there seems to be about 15 Starbucks in Islington so we'd have to make sure we all knew which one was the right one). Or maybe Strada? I think they'd be child/pram-friendly and have good pizzas - but not so good for those of us trying to regain our figures maybe?

I'm free all week, but Mondays are always good for me so I can avoid getting in the way of cleaning lady.

J xx

novadandypowder · 03/01/2006 16:07

ditto monday to avoid cleaning lady. have now booked Nat in for swimming on thursday so thats out for me now.

golden offered to host it at her place, does that sound good to you rather than fighting for space in over priced cafes? I'm sure GO's prices are quite reasonable
