Here we go, was going to write something lovely and meaningful, but I'm not very good at it so I'll leave that to someone else.....

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Londoner · 12/01/2006 12:23

Thanks guys, yeah, I feel really weepy today, it's really sad when you can't protect your child, like you said Golden. And yeah, he's okay, he's not hurt but is so gutted to lose his ipod which we got him as a xmas and b.day present 2nd hand and was a big treat as it's more than we should have spent really and he's only had it a week. He took it to school just for 1 day to use some tracks he'd created in his music project...wouldn't usually carry something of that value around, don't let him as I grew up in London and know this kind of stuff just makes you a target. But he wasn't flashing it about it was in his bag and this guy got stuff from others in the train carriage too, the guy picked ds up by his hair and threatened him with violence if he didn't give him something, well maybe it's lucky he had the ipod. Ds threw up this morning so he's at home with me today. (he's only 14 JenJam). I really love my son he's such a gorgeous boy.
Sorry guys, thanks fo your support.

browniechick · 12/01/2006 13:54

Londoner - can't imagine what you and ds must be going through. Best place for him today, at home with you. Hopefully the police will catch the nasty pasty and he will get convicted.
I know that doesn't help get the ipod back, or restore ds's confidence, but it's a start. Could you perhaps claim on house insurance for ipod? At least that way it can be replaced?
Keep Smiling....

Diege · 12/01/2006 15:12

Londoner - what a sickening experience for you and ds1. Agree that home is probably best place for him today, poor mite. It's not perfect here, but take it forgranted that I can take valuables out without threat of mugging etc..I suppose this is the downside of London .
Cat is safely esconed at home today, wedged between sofa and radiator. Nail woman comes to my house, so no salon trip for Big Cat!
Enthusia: agree, I do think the more sleep you have the more tired you feel (having said that, I'd easily swop my 5 hours for 8!). Driving lesson went ok actually [surprised emotion!]and I thubk I'm finally gettuing to grips with roundabouts! LOL LONDONER re: dayb dreaming passenger. I am exactly like this, and just vassume the person driving knows where I'm going. The test route is close to home, but is like being in another country when I'm in the driving seat!
CBB house is as addictive as ever. Generally think Jodie has it coming to her, but think they have gone a bit far calling her 'wicked' . I can just imagine Jordan and Peter in their living room watching it!

novadandypowder · 12/01/2006 15:21

swimming is great for getting babies to sleep! Natalie was asleep before we even got back to the car and has only been briefly awake for a bottle since. It was a fun lesson and there were only a few tears at the end when she did her first submersion, but i think that was more because of the surprise of it. I was a bit shocked to find that the changing rooms were unisex - although it has been a long time since I used a public pool so it's probably the norm, is it? Also a bit tricky getting changed afterwards as everything is so wet and Nat had to be put on the floor whilst I was getting dry, but we managed.

novadandypowder · 12/01/2006 15:23

lol Diege @ Jordan and Peter watching CBB. Just you wait, Peter will be on it next year!

Londoner · 12/01/2006 15:55

...have only just realised you're not all referring to childrens tv when discussing CBB..... lol lol lol .....derrr, how sad is that!
nova, glad the swimming went so well... about unisex changing....have to admire you for donning a swimming cossie at this stage, would def need a changing tent and girdle myself.
Diege well done on the driving lesson, wonder if I should have another go at driving......hmmm.
brownie Hi! How're you? Sadly the insurance won't cover ipod. Think we'll just put it behind us now.. Thanks for all your support again!

hamster · 12/01/2006 16:03

Hello everybody
Glad to see most of you find time to come on, and thoses little babies aren't causing too much upheaval!

I honestly can't remember the last time I came on, the computer has had a pretty nasty virus, and worms(whatever they are), so I've been 'mumsnet-less'

Euan is now 10 weeks old-time flys! He's a big strpping boy, about 12 1/2lbs now. Waking between 4-6am for a feed. So I can't complain. Ds1 is taking it all really well still, I think he's too young to know what it's all about though.

I read the final baby list too, I'm loving all the names! Esp Tigermoth

I hope I get time to pop on again soon. I miss everyone!

Hammy
xx

hamster · 12/01/2006 16:05

Oh, and please excuse my awful spelling
LOL

goldenoldie · 12/01/2006 18:12

LilJ - Sunstone in Stoke newington has a creche - but don't know if gym/creche is any good?

Londoner · 12/01/2006 19:16

Evening all,

Hi...
Hi Hamster.
Off to see ''Memories of a Geisha" tomorrow a.m at Greenwich Picturehouse, am v.excited.

BEKsmum · 12/01/2006 19:26

Evening, Londoner lol at Cbeebies reference I thought the same at first - shows what we do all day!!!
I'm dead of you going to see Memoirs of Geisha tomorrow, have you read the book? I loved it.

WElcome back Hamster we've missed you too.

Right got to go as Thomas has just woken up and dh is trying to get ds1 ready for bed, speak to you all tomorrow Beks

tessasmum · 12/01/2006 20:12

Evening!

I would have posted last night before going to bed but had to spend the time wiping toothpaste off the monitor - twice - thanks to Diege. First was 'twiglet in a sock', second was the cat up a tree story. Still sniggering when I got into bed and at various times throughout today

Really sorry to hear about your DS's experience Londoner, I hope it doesn't shatter his confidence too much. I think the picture of him and Elizabeth is wonderful by the way. Tender is the word that comes to mind. I keep going back to look at it as it makes me smile.

Nova - love the pictures, especially the really fed-up one with the reindeer antlers, I can almost hear what she is thinking! I just hope she isn't planning her revenge just yet
Agree about swimming and sleep, it does it every time. Tessa gave up her daytime nap about a year ago but almost always falls asleep after swimming and Ash was completely zonked out after last w/e's adventure.

Again I could be jinxing things but we have had 4 complete nights in a row 11-8ish! This morning he was up at 5.30am for a feed but went straight down again and I was feeling cheated, then I remembered how lucky we are and stopped thinking about complaining!

All this talk of cinemas might make me do something about finding out about what they offer here. I know they do something but I also know that toddlers aren't allowed in so it may not be possible yet. However Tessa starts at pre-school on Monday (I'm definately more nervous about than she is) so there may be hope.
There may also be hope of me getting some excercise as its a 15-20 minute walk. She will be going two mornings a week so I reckon that should sort me out, especially as the 15-20 mins will probably have to be done in under 10 due to my inability to coordinate getting 2 children ready to leave the house on time
Right, off to ring my Mum, maybe talk later.

browniechick · 12/01/2006 20:40

Londoner - am fine thanks - although Thomas's rash seems to be getting worse - it is all over his face and head . Has anyone else experienced such rashes (see previous posting for more details)? It doesn't seem to be causing him any bother - but it looks so awful, I feel really bad for him....
Sorry to hear about insurance not covering ipod....would have thought it would be covered - as items temporarily removed from house - think it is under accidental damage clause?
Any help from you guys about skin problems with lo would be appreciated. Am gonna mention it again at Drs when we go for jabs on Tues - have got the calpol at the ready!!

Diege · 12/01/2006 21:07

Evening everyone; good to have you back Hamster! .Tessasmum:you are so right about feeling cheated when you've had them sleeping through. Sounds like you might have cracked it though ...so jealous, though I can;t complain really as only one night waking at 4ish. Oh,and sorry abiout the monitor . There's this thing called the 'core night' theory that says once your baby has slept for a certain stretch, you shouldn't feed them earlier (but only if your baby is putting on weight, feeding well, no problems, etc..).Not sure I'm brave enough to try this yet, though the wake time is creeping back some nights to 3ish. Will get tough in a few months I think!
Brownie: had a similar experinece with dd1 who was always getting rashes. Ended up calling out the dr twice as I was really worried - a real head to toe one, with rough, raised pin prick spots. I was told it was one of many 'viral rashes' that babies develop, and that look a lot worse than they are. Rashes are extremely common, but I think you are right to go back to gp if it continues - after all, at least you will get ressurance which is so important with a baby.
Have a nice time at the cinema LOndoner - am very envious of all the great facilities and services that you have down there .
Well, it's time for action in the Cbeebies house......

Londoner · 12/01/2006 21:08

Hi again, and thanks again to you all for your sympathy and kind support, it's really helped.
Brownie, I've been thinking about this rash but can't come up with an answer as there's no fever or apparent irritation, it's a bit of a puzzle isn't it? Was thinking also it could be a milk/dribble rash because of the areas affected but then you mentioned dry skin generally as well. Could it be due to a recent change in washing powder or bubble bath or his milk? Do allergies run in the family at all? What sort of rash is it? e.g. Small flat spots or raised blothes etc?
BEKs, haven't read the book but have heard it's v.good, thanks, shame you can't come too!
tessa- lol at you and the toothpaste! Thanks for lovely comment on photo of ds, that is ds2 btw who is 10.
Ooh, what've you got planned for monday? Or will you be settling Tessa at the pre-school?
Night all, being attacked by hungry baby!

twinkle1 · 12/01/2006 21:20

hi all,
Browniechick:Josh has had a bad rash on face and now on body.I have been rubbing him with diprobase which is a really thick lardy emollient makes him look like a spotty slug!!!! His face has now completely cleared up but it has taken since xmas!!! so hopefully his body will follow As for jabs i would give the calpol about a half hour before the jabs, it definetley helps.
Diege/rodeo i can't wait to meet up, diege you will have to let me know what time you are going to arrive up here??? are you bringing a car seat or do you want to use my spare graco????
Enthusia, are you up here later this month???? would like to meet up
I hope everyone else is well and getting some sleep!!!!
Twinkle & Josh

ChaCha · 13/01/2006 00:06

Hello everyone,

For those of you that were interested I registered my domain and built the site using www.fasthosts.co.uk. I started paying 3.99 a month but have just recently paid around 50 pounds for the full year so I don't have to worry until Jan 2007. The sitebuilder is very easy to use and I have unlimited space on mine (room for loads of pages/pics/etc..) I also paid ten pounds extra to have it password protected. Let me know if you need any help.

Londoner - How awful! How is your DS now? Did it happen on the underground? When I was his age you'd get mugged for your trainers! Hated commuting to and from school on the underground. I'm really sorry Londoner

LilJ - Bicester village is quite nice. Have been a few times. Seems we are in the same boat with regard to baby weight. When do you weigh him next?

Well, Health Visitor weighed DS first. Said he'd only put on a little weight but in light of his being ill could weigh him again next week to see if there is progress. Thought fine. Went to see GP, she didn't seem concerned, however, she phones me 4 hours later to tell me that she has had a think and a chat to paeditricain and would like me to go NOW to A & E with a referral letter to see him as she is very worried about his weight!!!!! Of course, worried myself silly, took him up there, went through the usual paraphenelia only to be told to come back next week to have him weighed again!
Did get some good advice from him though. Basically said that DS is latching on well but that his mouth needs to be over my aerola (sorry if TMI) moreso than he was (difficult as area is quite big) and he then explained why. Had him, DH, and my close friend all trying to help me use his technique to get DS's mouth open wider Oh and top it all off, left the hospital with shirt still unbuttoned. Didn't notice until friend stood giggling in carpark.

I think this was probably a super long post. Sorry. Shall go and practise my 'stuff it in his gob' technique.

Enthusia · 13/01/2006 07:57

Morning all

Brownie - Sam also has a rash, it started on his arms but soon progressed over the whole of his body, was quite red and very bumpy. HV and Dr said it was a milk rash but gave me oilatum for the bath (I was already using this) and doublebase cream. The doublebase is excellent, not too greasy and easy to apply. My cranial women also said that the rash could be caused by toxins in the body making their way through the liver, which can give rise to spots, wasn't sure about this at the time, but since having jabs the spots have reoccured so now wonder whether there is something in what she said. The rash seems to be clearing now though. HTH

Went to my first postnatal group yesterday, it turned out to be really good and full of likeminded people - very strange. Was the only one not exclusively bf which made me feel a little odd though. Still not half as good as being on here though

Nova - we are going away this weekend and the hotel has a pool, we are going to take Sam in itbut don't know what to dress him in, what does Natalie wear? The swimming nappies seem to only start at 15lbs, we may be big but we are not there yet!!!!

ChaCha - cor it is just one thing after another isn't it? Did have to laugh at your 'stuff it in his mouth technique' though!!!! Hope Zayn is ok, and that your breasts don't go on strike with all the abuse

Londoner - sorry to hear about your son, I hope he is recovering now, pity you can't recover the bits, or more importantly find the and give him a reason to recover!

STILL don't know about Manchester - what is wrong with this company? Is someone at this moment going through the policy booklet with a finetooth comb??!!?? All we want to know is will they book a hotel room with a bloody cot? We will pay any difference in the costs for G's sake! Will let you know when I do!

I am up for Monday if I can get there, don't know Blackheath area at all!

Right better get on with some work. Sorry if I have missed anyone.

Oh yes it seems little man is hungry, gave him the hungry baby formula at 6 and he went through til 8.30 without a cry insight!!!!!!Right really better go

Enthusia and Sam 9 weeks 2 days

Diege · 13/01/2006 08:44

Morning everyone! Hope you've recovered Chacha - it's so worrying when there's concerns about weight (I'm having to get Libby rechecked too), and sometimes HVs/Gps can be a little insensitive I've found. My consultant actually rang me at home yesterday (suddenly developed posh telephione voice)about Libby's kidneys. Seems that the sonographer wrote down the wrong measurement, saying there was 11cm of fluid around her left kidney, whereas it's actually 11mm!!!The consultant thinks it must be a mistake because 11cm wouold be pretty casatrophic (ie, she would be v.v poorly), so is assuming I'm right when I said I thought it was 1 point something cms on the screen. But you know when you start to doubt yourself?? Have got tape measure out, and I'm sure it must be 1cm not 11, as 11 ius virtually her waist circumference! Bloomin sonographer . So, assuming I'm right, he's not worried, and has ordered a rescan for June . Very pleased!
TWINKLE: I can fit in with you time wise, though it would be 8.30/ 9ish before I could leave the house. This would probably mean I would get to Hadfield 10.30/11ish? Would this be OK? (assume we would meet Rodeo and anyone else who can make it around mid-day? Will this be OK for you to get back in time for school run? If not, I can get DH to drop mine, and get there earlier?? Re: car seat, had been giving this some thought, and trying to figure out my matrix car seat (the one with the dodgy velcro strap!), so if possible your spare one would be a godsend!!
Oh she's grunting!
Speak later,
Diege and Liberty

Londoner · 13/01/2006 09:48

Helloooooooo, good morning...

DS went off to school feeling fine today, so we're back on track, thanks. ChaCha he gets the overground to Dartford and back each day. Did you grow up in London then? Can't believe what you're going through at the moment with panicky professionals etc they really know so little about bf it's appalling, what do you think? IMO I think mum's instinct is the best measure, if you think Zayn is thriving then he most probably is, but I also know how difficult it is to hear what your instincts are saying when you have panicky people stressing you out like that. Hope you're getting on okay with the new latching on position? Can't be easy when you've already established your old feeding position so well. Surely the fact that Zayn slept through for almost 6 hours straight the other night points to his being fine? Is it a relief to have Zayn registered by the way, tricky family discussions over?
Enthusia glad you're coming on Monday. Wow you must be so cross at your dh's company, sounds like the're just plain lazy to me and are not prioritising your request....probably hoping you'll just not bother aren't they. Can really understand your predicament, in any other situation you could badger them until you got the info you needed - do you feel that doing that here might reflect badly on your dh? Glad to hear hungry baby formula is doing the trick.
Diege, can't believe that error at the hospital, inexcusable, usually those machines print out the results? Like you say, seems 11cm would be highly unlikely on child this size, and she would seem v.poorly. After the trouble you took to get new baby to the appt on time you'd hope they'd take more care, grrr. Am very glad Libby seems to be absolutely fine.
Can't stop kissing Elizabeth's fat little cheeks. DH convinced she can say "hello!" as every time he says it to her she goes "hey-ooo!" he's so funny, says we ought to call Guiness Book of records, he he.[
Hi everyone else, must get ready for my cinema trip now.xxx

novadandypowder · 13/01/2006 10:23

Enthusia - I got her a swim nappy from blooming marvellous but it's not quite snug enough around the legs yet, so I put a huggies disposable swim nappy underneath. You can buy them from sainsburys for 78p each, the small size fits her well and she's only just over 14lbs.

ChaCha · 13/01/2006 10:30

Diege - Totally agree with Londoner. How could they get it wrong? If i'm not mistaken there's a pretty big difference between cm's and mm's Anyway, glad you and Libby are well.

Londoner - Oooh, I'm pleased that your DS is over the underground incident, great news! Yes, I grew up in London - Ladbroke Grove and later lived in Chiswick.
DH and I aren't particularly worried about DS's weight and it's like I said before, have no qualms about topping up if that's what's called for - but will be using an organic goats milk formula if i have to use any. TBH they've all made me a bit paranoid but life is full of tests and I'm sure there will be a million more in the next few years. New position is quite difficult, am having to tease him so that he opens his mouth really wide. He slept from 1am till 5am had his feed and slept again till 9 - I feel normal again! Registering him at 12pm today, we've decided on giving him both our surnames as his surname. It's v.different as my surname is foreign and DH's is typically Irish!

Enthusia - Well done on hungry baby formula. Wish I could get to the London meet up.

See you later x

Rodeo · 13/01/2006 11:07

Have a great time at the Cinema Londoner! I love that book!

Diege/Twinkle really looking forward to our meet up too! LOL at Jordan and Peter watching CBB!

Chacha, what a drama! At least they're keeping a close eye on him, he'll be fine Re your 'stuff it all in' method, that's the way I did it with Jess after seeing that Claire Byam Cook (think thats her name) on the telly and it really worked, after she said that the nose to nipple way was useless! And I never seemed to manage that way, their mouths were too small! Good luck anyway

Well Ive just been really naughty and have been reading the synopsis' to the second series of Lost! Had to force myself to stop! Wish I didn't love telly so much, all my faves will be on in the spring, 24, Desperate HWs, Lost....I'm never going to get anything done in the Evenings!

Did I mention I'm going back to work next Friday?! Only for 1 night a week 8-12pm so shouldn't be hard, but I've really missed them!

Brill news on your job offer too Twinkle!

Nova, you've inpired me to take Jess swimming this weekend, we've always waited until the babie's jabs are over but I don't think that's necessary now. Will let you know! Didn't know you could get single swim nappies, thanks for the tip

Are we still on for Tues S&Lsmum?

OP posts:
JenJam · 13/01/2006 11:40

you lot can talk!!!
since yesterday there's about 50 new posts! that makes me triple-behind! i have a quick question (sorry to be take-take-take) but am thinking of buying finn one of those chair-swing things to keep him quiet so i don't have to carry him around
what do you reckon.
has anyone got one, if so what one do you have and does it work? !!

gotta go again he's bawling in the 'not quite bouncy enough chair'

goldenoldie · 13/01/2006 11:42

ChaCha - scary dash to A&E for you. Glad little Zayn only has to open his mouth wider!

Enthusia - agree with you on the doublebase cream. I got a few free samples in my Bounty packs and have been using it ever since. Might buy some for myself as facecream. Wonder if it is cheaper then E45 - my usual beauty regime.

Londoner - let us know if the film is as good as the book?

Does your DS go to a school outside of your local area too? Completely rubbish state schools here (Islington/Hackney), dreading the secondary transfer for DS1 - will either have to move or stay in the independent sector. Don't even want to think about what we will do with the twins. Three in private education is def. beyond our means.
