Hello. Think i was first to deliver off the September EDD thread so waving to see if anyone else out there yet to join me :)
Had my 2nd DD on 26aug by C-sec. We now home but struggling with BF and baby lost 10% body weight in 3days. Started to top up with formula in syringe to try give cracked. Bleeding nipples a rest, but milk is starting to drip out now leaking everywhere! Hoping for a better night tonight after 3nights of hourly feeds and snatching 2-3hrs of sleep.
Anyone else struggling too?

My first post on here since Kitty's birth... I have been lurking lots and enjoying the reassurance of all your familiar experiences.

Just wanted to let Jimmijam know that I have a GF who had undersctive thyroid diagnosed a few years ago, and it has been a revelation for her. She has to remember to pop a pill each day, but this is means that her appetite (and therefore waistline) is kept in check plus she has lots more energy and doesn't feel constantly knackered. Does your OH suffer with those symptoms? Hopefully it will be similarly effective for him.

Will post more when have access to laptop for proper typing, but suffice to say for now that we are enjoying and cursing lots of the same baby issues as you all!

jimmijam · 22/10/2011 09:03

Well after a night of v.little sleep last night lo fed @ 10pm, 2.30, 5.30am :-) strangely dont feel any better 4 jt but v.happy.

Dh @ appt nw. Tthbx loomer he has puffy face, always knackered, slow, overweight... I thought it was just down 2 his age, eating & excercise habits, sleep apnea & asthma. Bad wife not believing him :-/

Sounds like 100 & ssmile both had terrible nighta. Just remember often 2 nights r never the same, hopefuly 2moro will b much better :-)

Really need 2 get new phone with a bigger keypad!!

PrincessScrumpy · 22/10/2011 13:00

Loomer we have a Kitty too - she's 7.5weeks now and has a twin called Heidi. Someone tried to write dtd1's name down and wrote Hy (I stopped her there but part of me wishes I'd let her keep going as I'm interested to know how she would have continued!)

jimmijam - a week ago I would have called what you describe as a fab night - it's what we've been aiming for with the twins, but last night they went down at just after 11pm, woke at 3am then at 7am - feel truly amazing for it and hope it wasn't a one-off.

We were given a gf book for dd1 and threw it away - far too ridged for us, but we've got a new one this time called The Baby Book - How to Enjoy Year 1, it's fab as it seems to pretty much match what dtds are doing regarding sleeping and feeding, but is more flexible than others. It says they should be sleeping from 7pm-6am at 4 months if you follow it so we will try it and see!

jimmijam · 22/10/2011 13:18

princess by dtd do u mean dcs not doing the deed. Or am i missing spmething? Please let us know how u get on the next few nights following the book, im intrigued & may invest in 1 myself. I couldnt stand 2 do the controlled cryinv thing, tugs my heartstrings perhaps more than it should.
Wow twins!

ssmile · 22/10/2011 13:30

My 6wk growth spurt lasted 2full on days 100yrs then feeds really settled down and we started to turn the corner.
scrummyprincess sleep pattern sounds vmuch like we have here hope ur getting some rest &help twins with 3yr old must be vhard work.
jimmijam hope DH gets some help with thyroid probs and he feels better.
Well eventually got some sleep 5.45-7.45, hand over to DH and got 2more hrs so don't feel too bad. Poor Lo got green nose &cough wants to be held all the time sleep upright &now bit hot. Hopefully we won't need DR for her as she young to have proper cold. she has had two poos now after 4days so fingers Xed has arvo nap now. We have 8wk DR check on Mon and had been getting first jabs but I might delay them a wk if she not well.
Hope u have restful arvos. I've started photographing maternity clothes to sell on eBay. Not planning on having another Lo so time to clear out wardrobe then I can buy some cute baby clothes with proceeds :)

Can I join in on the 'I had a crappy night' moan. DS was colicky all night and just wanted to comfort feed and refused to be put down, cried if I moved etc. Am so knackered today and have felt really tied to baby today as he has not improved much and my boobs hurt from him wanting comfort food. Am trying to build up milk bank as have a night out booked and will be out for 5 hours but keep using it to give my nipples a break. Never sure when to express as he wants to eat ALL THE TIME! hope he turns 'that' corner soon. Sending sleepy vibes to all the babies out there for tonight.Smile

Jojo1983 · 22/10/2011 20:08

Jimmijam im off to minehead by the butlins! Hope DH gets the help he needs my mum had to have her Throid out as is now on daily tablets

I also want to join in the "I had a crappy night sleep threat" Well to be fair it wasnt that bad compaired to half of ur nights but bad compaired to what im used too! Was only up 3 times but when he woke up at 6 there was no going back to sleep plus we were out all day so not a chance of a nap for me absolutly running on low now!

Oh well Xfactor may cheer me up!

ssmile · 23/10/2011 02:01

My poor Lo she can't sleep lying down she all congested. I've had a read I didn't reliase obas oil is potentially dangerous for young children? I've used it on tissues nr my DD1 bed Blush in the past, they do a obas jnr which has something taken out of it which Lo react to and could stop breathing in small babies that's scary. There's nothing we can use to help Lo as all meds and kaval capsules say not for under 3mths. Managed a couple hrs kip Lo was propped against me hope it passes soon. My friends Lo ended up in hospital recently just for having a cold at such a young age. She been hot, just in no legs vest and 1tog bag tonight and still warm but not feverish I think. I guess this is to be expected having Lo in winters but time and with another one at school they bring home lots bugs hohum just hard when they get sick when you are, as I'm maxing out on paracetmal& ibrup last 2days assuming its ok whilst breastfeedin as took those drugs post c-sec in hospital
Hope your having better nights too.......

LoveBeingAWitch · 23/10/2011 04:04

Well tonight and last night he has taken ages to go to sleep in the evening, another cold dinner for me :-(. But I did decide after all that effort I was moving him upstairs cause he then wants to feed again so went to sleep downstairs till he woke for a feed then bring him up. At least I am getting a bit more sleep that way. So an hour later he's asleep, dh is still asleep downstairs and I think dd has gone back off too. She opened her bedroom door as I got to the top of the stairs to ask why the light was on.

Anyway a few more mins and I will try to sleep. Hope you are all having a goodnight. Fingers crossed my sore throat/ dhs cold doesn't make it to ds. Come on bf do what you are meant to do and stop him from getting it!!!!!!

Minkyjj · 23/10/2011 14:20

Oh ladies, feeling sorry for all your colds and illnesses and also for lack of sleep. I am still in bed at 2.15 in the afternoon as such a bad night last night. Trying to catch up as half term now so no catchup likely with dd and ds1 at home next week.
Managed to cook a roast yesterday and invite my mum and godmother round - very impressed that I managed it like clockwork. Getting into practice for the housefull I will no doubt have for Christmas. Finding slowcooker is a great invention for easy cooking as you prepare in the morning and have a really nice meal cooked and ready for the evening and it can be delayed if necessary and won't spoil.

summerpixie · 23/10/2011 16:03

Poor DD has caught DS cold. She is full of gunk and you can hear it in her cough. Luckily we never got a holiday booked up as I wouldn't have taken her. She just puked up her feed along with yellow stuff? Not sure what this is Sad. She's not really fed today either but is crying a lot and sleeping. It's terrible when they get ill SadSadSad
But, as ssmile said, this happens when you have a schoolchild at home. Thankfully gp is in holiday this week so 8week check n jabs are now at 9weeks when I hope she will be better by then.
Hope there are no more poorly sept babies.

ssmile · 23/10/2011 16:31

Hope Lo feels better soon summerpixie its horrid watching them suffer. My Lo is only managing to feed 1-3mins at a time every 45mins approx and won't be put down wants mummy hugs 24/7 so its utterly draining, my boobs hurting as they haven't a clue what's going on. I tried to pump but it didn't work, managed a tiny 15mls off by hand breast hurting from her not feeding properly. I feeling bit better today so hoping she will too tom, glad we got DRs appt tom for 8wk check so at least I can be reassured she is doing ok as she is not the happy little baby she had been. DD1 has been vgd today as she has cold too but was happy playing her dollys having tea party game on her own whilst I just laid down resting this morn.

LoveBeingAWitch · 23/10/2011 17:26

Any advice ladies think I'm heading down the mastitis route Sad. Hadn't realised a hot tender patch was a warning sign, feels very sore today so have been feeding loads from that side. Feel a bit achy but was starting to cone down with something anyway (sore throat) so don't know which has caused it Confused. Ds is feeding like a monster ATM and not settling very well at night.

Milliebow · 23/10/2011 18:52

Not much advice witch. But sounds like you are doing the right things. Keep feeding and you could try gentle massage of area in case blocked duct. If red patch and unwell then I would see a gp. Are you taking paracetamol and plenty non caffeine based fluids?

100years hope you doing better after your day spent at motorway services. Sounds horrendous, but you got through it. Can I give you a round of applause?

Had a terrible night/ day her with dd feeding every 45 mins to an hour and a half since 2 am. Feeding again now. She's struggling to settle in-between as well. Only managed 2 hour max sleep this aft as we took her out in car. Both me and DH are full of colds too like the rest of you, but she seems ok. What ages are growth spurts meant to happen? She's 2 and a half weeks now.

candr · 23/10/2011 19:28

Another awfu; night with no sleep. DS grizzled most ofthe night inbetween comfort feeds as stomach really hard and he was trying to poo. Did couple of massive poos ths morning but still wanting to eat like crazy if i hold him. Really hope he feels well enough to sleep tonight, is a bit sniffly too. Is it ok to burn scents like tea tree in oil burner or lavender candles around baby or is it bad for them to breath it in - does anyone know?

feralgirl · 23/10/2011 20:18

Oh dear! Colds, sleep deprivation, mastitis, growth spurts; sorry everyone's having such a grim time!

Ssmile I know that it says on the bottle that you can't give calpol under 3 months but I bet if LO is really suffering (i.e. a temperature) and you went to the dr then they'd recommend a tiny dose. DS had paracetamol on the post-natal ward when he was only a few hours old because they pulled a big chunk of skin off his head with the ventouse and he was in lots of pain. Medicines all say not suitable for babies because they can never be tested and the companies don't want to risk prosecution. Obviously I'm not suggesting doing anything without checking with a dr first but if things get desperate then it might be worth asking.

Re green poo, that's really interesting as DD has pesto poo quite often but DS never did (his was always pure English mustard Grin). I bet it's too much sugar in my case as I am bloody uncontrollable around cake atm Blush I've got
(late) 6 week check tomorrow so will ask then as I only get one HV visit at ten days and then not again until 3-4 months Hmm

YY to whoever asked where the time is going. It's scary! Went to a garden centre today and it was rammed full of Christmas tat Shock

Minkyjj · 23/10/2011 20:51

You poor things - really hope you all get better soon. My friend recommended a saline baby nasal spray from the chemists that helps clear their noses - dint know what the name is but sure if you ask they will know.
Re green poop - there are many reasons why you can get spinach coloured but I can't remember them all. Off the top of my head apart from breastfeeding fore and hind milk imbalance it can also be due to illness, infection, teething and other reasons - breastfeeding counsellor told me but it's worth speaking to someone to get advice as I don't think it's something you want to have long term. Lo had it very early on and it's was due to my nipples bleeding and breastfeed imbalance.
Mastitis - need to get to drs ASAP for antibiotics but keep feeding as stopping will make it worse.
Apart from putting books under the cot or crib on one end to slightly elevate cot I would also recommend the following. A humidifier which steams the room helps the baby breath much easier - really good for toddlers too and chest infections/croup - we put baby albas oil into it and it helped. You can also buy plug-ins for the wall but can't remember what age.
Re calpol - you can give it to babies at 8 week injections so I would think if needed you could with illness - call the gp (even out of hours) and they can advise.
I think you can use lavender oil but unsure about t tree - again hv would know.
Growth spurts happen around 3 weeks 6 weeks 3 months and 6 months. Not sure how exact this is though as I think my lo is going through growth spurt at 5.5 weeks and it all started at 5 weeks - I guess all babies are different.
Hope that helps some of the queries. Sending you all get well wishes.

ssmile · 23/10/2011 20:51

witch if u suspect mastitous get check asap by DR, as you may need antibiotics. I had it 5x with DD1 first time at 10d old babe I went from fine to full on flu symptoms in 3-4hrs but 2hrs after taking dble dose antibios on midwife advice I was different person. After that I had to call out of hrs DR twice as kept happening at weekends and got antibios dispensed by local hospital. Keep feeding and massaging off the breast. It could also be thrush so do get it checked out. Touch wood not had mastitous this time but I've been super vigilant on massaging out any lumps.
millie growth spurts at around 20days and 6wks normal if breastfeeding, does sound like what your Lo is doing. Should ease off a bit in 48hrs.
candr no idea about burning scents in babe room. Personally I wouldn't at this young age but each to their own. I was shocked to read about obas oil link to poss breathing probs in young babes.
I hoping for better night, I've felt better today and babe slept 2hrs in her bouncy chair this afternoon and now just crashed out in my arms, so fingers crossed she actually has some sleep in her cot tonight.

Keep meaning to say also that lo was really suffering with wind/colic. We were using infacol and then colief and gripe water too. Finally I decided to just stop it all because it didn't seem to stop the problems. Having stopped it all je is so much better and calmer - is farting much less, in less pain and burps really well. Also getting much less possetting - I think the meds were making the wind removal too aggressive for him and making the problem much worse.

Minkyjj · 23/10/2011 21:01

Ssmile - that made me giggle - we are obviously great minds thinking alike ! Glad you are on the mend.

ssmile · 23/10/2011 21:12

Babe has settled in cot for first time in 48hrs so fingers Xed i need to crash now to after a few pages of book "time travelers wife" I'm really enjoying it. Night all x

Great - lo just threw up whole feed all over my duvet - why do they do that when they are on your bed - would have been so
Much easier to just change the Moses basket sheet. That was straight after decorating a vest and babygro with an up the back pop !
Just found more info re green poop - worth googling if your lo has this. Another cause for bteastfed babies is iron supplement in mummy or antibiotics or other meds in mum.
Off to sleep in my milky bed - cannot face a bed change at this hour ! Hope you are all sleeping well. The positive in the above posts was lo then gave me a beaming smile which he has been doing on and off for last two weeks - so cute.

feralgirl · 24/10/2011 14:41

Hee hee, Minky, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's too lazy to always change sicky sheets! I just turn the duvet round or over until I've got a dry bit Blush

I enjoyed Time Traveller's Wife ssmile Smile It was quite a good read I thought. I am loving my Kindle for reading and BFing at the same time; so much easier than balancing a book on the baby and trying to turn pages!
