Hello. Think i was first to deliver off the September EDD thread so waving to see if anyone else out there yet to join me :)
Had my 2nd DD on 26aug by C-sec. We now home but struggling with BF and baby lost 10% body weight in 3days. Started to top up with formula in syringe to try give cracked. Bleeding nipples a rest, but milk is starting to drip out now leaking everywhere! Hoping for a better night tonight after 3nights of hourly feeds and snatching 2-3hrs of sleep.
Anyone else struggling too?

Jojo _- hope jabs went ok. We've got 2nd lot tomorrow :(

Santageek - yes we're very lucky with NHS.

100years read somewhere that although too early for teeth they are starting to develp beneath gums now and hence the chewing, dribbling and red cheeks - all of which my LO has

My LO also quarter turning but doesn't like being on her front !! She's not sure what to do! So not sure shell want to turn onto her front!!

Banana cake made for tea and cake at dsd's school tomorrow and presents bought so far all wrapped. Yay ... Think I deserve a soak in the bath tonight to try relieve my aching back which is killing me!!

Obsidian · 14/12/2011 16:38

Hi there,

Can I join you? I've been lurking for a while, enjoying reading about all your ups and downs, but I thought it might be nice to join in the chat if you'll have me? I am a first time mum to a gorgeous little girl, who was born on 22.09.11 and is 12 weeks tomorrow. It's been the hardest three months of my life, but we're just about finding our feet now. Had a horrible time breastfeeding at the beginning (lots of pain, repeated mastitis etc.) but think that's sorted now. DD is quite predictable and usually (although not today!) calm and contented during the day, but the evenings are a little more tricky.. It feels like the right time to introduce a bedtime routine now, but we're really struggling to get her to sleep any earlier than 10 - 11 ish. She just doesn't seem sleepy and if we put her in her cot she ends up screaming, which is horrid. So we keep bringing her back downstairs with us. Any tips?? Would love to get her to bed a little earlier! We've tried bath, massage, story etc. but it doesn't seem to make any difference - argh!

Looking forward to chatting with you all...

the100yearsofchristmas · 14/12/2011 16:51

Yeah snowy, I reckon it's all just moving about in her gums. And yum to banana cake, we have a load of bananas that are very ripe, I need to use them up, cake and flapjack will be made tomorrow I reckon!

Hello Obsidian. Welcome to the thread. Sorry it's been a tough ride for you so far. Hopefully it will feel a bit easier now. Re bedtime routine, my LO was much the same as yours for ages. I just started doing the exact same thing each night, low lights, feed, story, put down, bit of music, feed again if needed, bringing it earlier gradually. I found bringing it forward too quickly resulted in crying. It took a while, and it was hard, but we did get there. She now goes down between half 8 and half 9 (at the latest) It took rocking her to sleep initially and putting her down as she almost dropped off, now we can put her down and she self settles. For the first few days it took over an hour from taking her through to her sleeping, now it's only about 30 mins if that. I found for me, sticking with (almost exactly) the same thing really helped. However we've just had a weekend away. The stuff I usually did was done differently, but she still went down fairly well, and it wasn't that much later than normal. I think it's a case of finding what works for you and sticking with it for a while and bringing it earlier very gradually, only 15 mins earlier at a time every few days. Hope you find something to work.

ssmileWithFairylights · 14/12/2011 20:16

Hi obsidian welcome hope things start to settle down abit for u now, the first 6-12wks can be really hard. Bedtime routine I echo 100 do what suits you and just repeat.nightly and Lo will gradually learn. Once its bedded in then if you miss something one night it doesn't make too much difference. My Lo doesn't have a bath everynight so on those nights I do couple extra minutes massage with oil so she still knows its windown time.

Lo not rolling over yet but she not had much chance either. She doesn't like being laid down in daytime, everytime I try playmat that DD1 loved she just crys. So got the Moby Wrap out again today tried different position Lo happier now she can hold head up better. It meant I could get soup made with her strapped to me. We had DD1 nativity today, my mum kindly offered to look after babe for 2hrs. I've not left her that long before but she slept on my mum the whole time we were at school :)
Been different feeding pattern this week, more feeds at night :( but I think its because she more interested in what's going on around her than feeding, so she only snacking in daytime. I do remember this from before and it did pass but I'm tired this week and felt Lo sleep takin a step back, Hohum.
Hope you not all too cold, sleep well my bed beckons. Zzzzz

Obsidian · 14/12/2011 20:34

Thanks for the bedtime advice :-)

We're trying to do the same things each night, e.g. bath, bottle, cuddle/song, bed, but she's still fighting sleep if we try and put her down any earlier then after her last feed.. So frustrating! Tonight we gave her half the bottle before her bath and half after, which worked well and meant she drank the whole lot, and she was really sleepy. But, as soon as I put her down at 8pm she was wide awake and screaming - argh! She then settled a bit and just chatted away to herself, but then got upset again. DH is trying to settle her now, but I'm not holding out much hope. She's fed, changed, REALLY TIRED and in her lovely, cosy bed that she likes the rest of the time, but she still won't go to sleep!!!!!!! We've tried shushing, cuddling, singing, dummy, rocking and so far nothing is working. Sigh.

Hopefully she'll get the hang of it eventually, if we keep trying. Would be nice to feel we were making some progress though, and at the moment it doesn't.

So exciting to hear about your LOs learning to roll over (although a little scary!). DD is very kicky and pushes herself along on her tummy, but no sign of rolling yet. It's lovely seeing her learn each day though - the concentration on her face when she's playing with the toy bar on her bouncy chair is so sweet. After a while though she gets cross with it - too much like hard work!

Fingers crossed we have a better night..

Sleep well everyone, x

Santageekmum · 14/12/2011 20:50

Welcome Obsedian, I'm also a fairly new person on the thread, but they are all very lovely helpful people here so make yourself at home Wine. Have to echo what's been said above. We've got ourselves stuck in a routine where DS will only go to sleep whilst being bounced on the exercise ball, but otherwise it's not too bad.

Falalala I'm just west of London, the forecast looks grim - in fact they said that there are too possibilities for Friday, either really windy or windy and snowy in the morning. But should clear by the afternoon.

Jojo how did the jabs go?

Hope everyone has a good night tonight

jimmijam · 14/12/2011 21:40

hello all!!!
im ashamed i've been away for so long!
loving the xmassy names!
lo dribbling away, also coughing and wheezing which i thought was a cold, but after taking ds1 to dr yesterday with different symptoms, finding he has bronchitis and looking it up on the net am now thinking lo may also have it, so another trip to the dr 2moro me thinks.
not looking forward to the snow :-( mostly because of plans and needing to travel.
so much to catch up on so ive just scanned thru the last few posts

snowy our lo (strangely, esp as dcs 1 and 2 followed 'the book') has 2 molars coming thru, 1 of which is on the cusp of cutting thru the gum. lots of bonjela!
hello to santageekmum :)
obsediansorry, just scanned thru. welcome to the thread!!! perhaps once you've put ur lo down 4 sleep, dont take her back downstairs when she wakes? i keep our lo out of the bedroom during the day and once in bed he doesnt leave the room til morning. he wakes up 4 night feeds but only occasionally wakes up thinking its playtime (when he does i think i prob fall asleep well before he does) but (touchwood) doesnt cry at night

we dont really have a routine, tho i do rub his legs and tummy with a mothercare lavender baby massage oil thing. he loves it (and so do i)

ssmile our lo doesnt get much chance 2 learn to roll over either. he's not a big fan of tummy time anymore, so is either lay on his back playing with the toys dangling off his mat or is being cuddled

JoJoJoHoHoHo · 14/12/2011 21:59

Evening ladies
Jabs went well had a little cry but only lasted a few seconds then he fell back to sleep doctor prescribed some paracetamol but touch wood we haven't used it as yet! She also measured his head 24cm!!! big head!

Santageekmum I'm in west London where about are you?

My LO bedtime routine is a bit hit and miss he has his last bottle around 8-9 and then normally sleeps until 1-2 he then has another bottle and straight back to sleep until 5-6 then bottle again (little fatty) and normally wakes up around 8 all smiley and happy. He has a bath every other night and i leave the tele on for him as he likes some background noise but have the bedroom light off (got some fairy lights up atm)

Mum is looking after Lo on Saturday afternoon so i can go and meet up with the girls for a bite to eat and a Christmas drink woohoo cant wait!

Hope you all have a good evening i'm off to watch this is England!

the100yearsofchristmas · 14/12/2011 22:01

ssmile, we have a moby wrap, it's fantastic, the best thing we have to be honest. Used it loads one weekend while we were away and didn't even use the pram we had taken, so we didn't even bother taking the pram last weekend while we were away, I just used the wrap. LO sleeps loads when she is in it.

Obsidian, I had a couple of nights crying before she started to settle down when I took her through. It's hard and to be honest I found trying to get a nighttime routine one of the hardest things I've done so far with her. But it worked and I'm glad I persevered.

Hey jimmi. :) Woohoo hi again. :( poo to LO possibly having bronchitis.

Santageekmum · 14/12/2011 22:18

hello! Xmas Smile

Just a quick message to say to Jojojo that I'm west of London ie. Woking! Sil lives nr earls court though. Whereabouts are you?

Might have to look into getting a moby wrap. Managed to get a nursing chair - was going to bid for one on eBay, asked a friend if they'd be willing to help pick it up as they have a bigger car, and they offered to sell me theirs instead! £40 delivered to my door on Sunday!

Anyway off to get some precious sleep before the nighttime feeds....

JoJoJoHoHoHo · 14/12/2011 22:28

Jimmi My Lo had bronchitis the other week was horrible so fingers crossed yours gets better soon!
Santa Im near heathrow so a bit far from you lol
100 where did you get your moby wrap from?

MinkyjjMincyPies · 15/12/2011 00:30

Hello and welcome to obsidian. I was west London until a few years ago too, now right on the south coast.
Lo really chewy and dribbly today. Have a really cool bandana dribble bib that I must get out to save soaked clothes.
Ordered turkey from waitrose today - 45 quid - tomorrow I will remortgage the house I think!
I hope the weather doesn't start getting silly with snow or I could end up with dfil for longer than intended over Christmas like last year ! (he isn't the easiest person to cope with and a week pushed the limits - well to be honest anything longer than an hour is beyond the call of duty !)
My friend had her baby today and I was right - baby girl - so thrilled for them as this lo was a long time coming.
Lo crying in his sleep alot tonight - not boding well for sleep.
Well, better see if I can catch a few zzzzs before they disappear from sight.

Santageekmum · 15/12/2011 01:21

First wake up of the night - fed and put down, has been asleep for 5 minutes now so just waiting for the wake up and crying bit, he nearly always does this...

Sorry to hear about the bronchitis sufferers Xmas Sad glad jojo's got better, hopefully yours will get better soon jimmi.

Minky that is an expensive turkey - I have never done the Christmas roast and am not planning to this year either, didn't realise the damn things were so dear! I'd be happy to be stuck at my pils place, big house and garden, but my parents' house is too small so would get claustrophobic very quickly! Then again I'm probably in a minority that gets on with my mil (have already asked if she will come with me to my paediatric appt, she's very strong and opinionated but I am lucky that most of the time I agree with her! I just avoid the topic of global warming though!)

Next year we might do our own Xmas meal, but when we have parents that are willing to cook for us it seems a waste of effort Xmas Wink

Some very loud sounds coming from DS- loud sighs and hiccough sounds or sudden intakes of breath - I'm waiting for one of these to wake him up!

Southeast forecast: snow Friday morning, clearing Friday afternoon. Weekend has widespread icy conditions in the mornings. Where is everyone else dotted around the country?

ssmileWithFairylights · 15/12/2011 07:00

100 what position do u use with your Moby? I've struggled to use mine.40% of time I get Lo in and it feels vcomfy but 60% of time feels v.uncomfortable. I had hoped to use it on school run when I drive but I've stuck to the baby bjorn as its easier to get Lo in out in hurry but its not so comfy to use or gd for my back. I so wanted the Moby wrap to be better, guess I need to practice more.
I got mine off eBay gd place to look as lots people like me, buy them then can't get to grips with them, I really need someone to help give me some hints n tips on using it. I tried looking on YouTube found some bits.
Feeling crap this morn, Lo slept bit better but been nursing migraine all night :( really been feeling hormonly unbalanced this week.

CosmicCloud · 15/12/2011 14:26

Just wondering if I can join this thread? Posted a bit in antenatal but not got round to doing so in postnatal. I have been lurking and reading some of the time and it's been good knowing others are going through the same (especially those middle of the night posts). DS2 is almost 12 weeks and the time just seems to be going so quickly! DS1 being a brilliant big brother (well most of the time).
Hope everyone is doing well and looking forward to all the LO's first Christmases :)

CosmicCloud · 15/12/2011 14:30

Ssmile hope your migraine is easing off. Must be horrible coping with that and DC :(

Santageekmum · 15/12/2011 17:34

Hi Cosmic, welcome to the thread! I think the middle of the night posts will continue for a while yet from us...

DS woke up once more in the night but I got DH to put him down after feeding, much nicer Xmas Wink

Ssmile, hope your migraine's better. I suffer too and they can be debilitating, I hope yours isn't too bad. Did your day improve?

I've been watching moby wraps on eBay, hoping to get one at a decent price...

ssmileWithFairylights · 15/12/2011 19:34

Unfortunately migraines run in my family but. I started getting them 5yrsago. If I wasn't breastfeeding I'd have taken two syndol and gone to sleep for few hrs and woken up refreshed. But instead I took couple ibprofen which knocked the edge, but 8am I feeling sick, shaky wondering how the hell gonna get DD1 to school then babe started crying she been grissling since 6am so I just burst into tears. Pulled myself together the school walk helped abit. Babe fell asleep as we got home 9am so I laid her on the bed and dozed with her for half hr did my visualize each part of my body relaxing from head down. It helped. Still feel rough now so once Lo asleep (she winding on my shoulder) I'm hoping some sleep will knock it off. Felt vunbalanced hormonal this wk and sometimes the build up of hormones triggers migraine in me and used to in my mum. She gets vbad flashing lights luckly I don't get that.
Night all

jimmijam · 15/12/2011 20:09

ds1 back 2 normal already, lo saw dr today and is fine :-)

ooh i'd not heard of a moby, wrap? will google it now.

blimey minkj with the turkey!!! tho i watched an episode of octors today, lasy brought 1 and burnt it, brought a 2nd at £120!!!!! then lost it so ended up eating sausages instead :-)

ssmile sorry to hear you're still getting migranes after all this time. years ago at school a friend of myn got lots of them, she had 2 cut out dairy products 2 ease them, from what i remember it worked

hello cosmic i remember you from the earlier thread, welcome back :)
thanks jojo hope your little un is ok now x

snowysebs · 15/12/2011 22:07

Blimey loads to catch up on... Will try to tomorrow when on laptop not phone . Quickly - hope LO doesn't have bronchitis, and ouch to the migraine. I get them very occasionally but haven't in a while. Mine are usually sinus related. Not fun and if I got one now I'd also worry how I'd cope with LO so, ssmile, really feel for you.

LO had second jabs today .- cried less than first set and seems ok since. Had OH home today - day off work - what a difference it makes. Finally put tree up - had to buy one as only found empty tree box from last year! But was reduced from £44 to £10 !! So DSD can now say she isn't the only one without a tree up in her class!

Got pil coming tomorrow weather permitting. Think we'll be ok but they're driving through midlands. We live north Wales so may escape it however we do live higher than the highest village in Wales (at around 1000 feet) so we get a lot of snow. The winter before last we measured 18 inches on top of the outside bin!!

Welcome to obsidian and welcome cosmic - I also remember you from antenatal thread.

Will catch up properly tomorrow... Night all and stay warm!!

MinkyjjMincyPies · 16/12/2011 00:15

Welcome back cosmic - remember you from antenatal.
Smile - with my neural aneurism (that has disappeared now - yippee) I suffered cluster migraines that lasted around 5 days. I couldn't see or talk and just wanted to die! One thing I found was migraine action association which publishes all the latest research and treatment - maybe you may get some helpful tips from them ? I use to get then every week but havent had one in nearly 2 years.
Santa - sad thing is, like you I got on so well with my mil but she died of a brain tumour at 60, 6 years ago and since then my FIL has really changed and become very self centred. When mil was around we did everything together but sadly things can change. Enjoy your mil, you ate lucky to have her.
We are kind of stuck with Christmas as we have a big house and dh and I don't have a complete set of parents between us so we ate kind of expected to take the lead every year. This year just 7 of us but normally twice that so easy this time.
Have decided that I am so knackered after last few weeks that I am declaring pj day on sat - we have these every now and again - rules are you stay in pjs all day (stops anyone feeling need to go out), watch films and snuggle up on sofa eating crap all day, kids and I love it !

snowysebs · 16/12/2011 11:40

Half way through cleaning house... Quick break!

Well my mil is coming this afternoon... We get on ok but she's not exactly a warm person - picked up LO once in a few days during her last visit but told my dad she wasn't a baby person. DSD is a little frightened of her (she's an ex head of a private girls school... And dont you know it...) so LO will unfortunately miss out on a loving grandmother as my dear mum passed away 10 years ago. Still my dad makes up for it like he has with me and brother for many years (mum had early onset dementia for 11 years). So please cherish a good mum or mil.

Minky - your pj day sounds heavenly!! Enjoy!!

About 4cm snow here - from this morning but very light now cso hoping it's stopping. Pil still on their way I think and kids still in school so business as usual so far

Right Hoover beckons again...

candrcane · 16/12/2011 12:39

Hi all and welcome (back) to others, Looks like everyone has a lot going on, sounds like there are ups and downs all round. We are also teething but not yet holding toys so it is fists and my shoulder being chewed on cue lots of soggy shouders. He has rolled from front to back a few times now and is desperate to crawl - he will push of your hand or leg and scoot forwards but can't quite do it un aided which he finds annoying. STILL has colic which is crap as we really thought it would go at 12 w and he is now 13+1 so sleep training is still on hold though wh have started going to bed at 8 (me and him) so can't wait till he will sleep without mext to him.
So how many people liked the snow? Love it but worry it will stop us going to family for xmas. LO seemed quite amused watching it.
Snowy, I Consider myself very lucky as love my family and MIL who will be joining us at my folks place but wish DH dad was still alive to meet grandson.
Have a great weekend and hope you all get some sleep.

Obsidian · 16/12/2011 15:00

Well, aren't you a lovely lot? Thank you for all the welcomes. It's been lovely to hear about all your Christmas-y plans. And, thank you for sharing your bedtime routines - you've given me lots of ideas to think about. Although last night we went out to a pub for a meal for DH's work Christmas do, and DD was an angel - spent the whole night either looking around happily or napping. It was really lovely. Perhaps we should go out every night!! Although she then woke up at 3 and 4, hungry, and didn't settle well, so am currently propping eyes open with matchsticks.

Went into work today (primary school) to show her off for the first time, so had to trowel on the concealer this morning and put on a brave face! It was lovely to see everyone and all the kids, but am shattered now. Just trying to persuade DD it's nap time, and she's wide-eyed and blowing raspberries at me! How often and for how long do all your LOs nap during the day? And have you found that the amount of sleep in the day has any effect on night time sleeping? DD has a sort of feed, play, sleep pattern during the day, and probably sleeps somewhere between 4 and 6 hours - not sure if this is about right or not?!

So relieved it's Friday! DH finishes work today (also teacher!) thank god, so will have more time next week to wrap presents etc. Plus my mum is coming up to stay, so will have lots of pairs of hands to help out - hoorah! We have, rather erroneously, decided to drive down to London tomorrow to visit friends. Really looking forward to seeing them, but a bit nervous about our first long car journey with LO. Hoping she'll sleep all the way there!

One more question for you all - are any of you breastfeeding mums giving a bottle at all, either of EBM or formula? We've started giving one bottle of formula early evening, which seems to be filling her up more, but we're finding it difficult to persuade her to take a full feed of 180ml. Any tips, other than practise? We've got a MAM bottle at the moment and she's okay with it, but it's a bit of struggle to get her to take between 100 and 150ml, and ideally I'd like her to have more to fill her up for a longer sleep!

We had some snow yesterday, but it's all melting now - boo! I love a white Christmas, however impractical! xx

ssmileWithFairylights · 16/12/2011 15:00

minkyj thanks for migraine tip glad your aneurism has gone must be huge relief. My dad&brother suffer from cluster migraines they are miserable. Mine are mild at mo just hang about for day make me feel sick&shaky. I've had two glasses of wine since babe and each time its triggered headache :( so I'm teetotal for now. Just hope chocolate not gonna trigger them as they do in my dad.
Welcome back cosmic more the merry ere. candrcane my Lo spent most of this wk on bed next to me but last night did SIX hrs in her cribb, oooh heaven I had lovely sleep. I'd just keep trying they do get there eventually it just feels like one step forward one back again at times.
No snow ere in devon but icy rain. Last day at school for DD1 I'm waiting in car now, and I finished wrapping last present at 2.30pm phew. Wanted it done before she broke up as my quiet days are now no more for 3wks.....
