Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
sam26oscar · 03/10/2011 20:36

Hi ladies, hope you have all been enjoying the sunshine!!
We are at centre parcs too me we're at the longleat one, how about you??
well, cassie started to crawl backwards and finds herself stuck under all sorts of obstacles!
we have a tooth Grin its just about to break the skin any moment soon!! I can see the ridges and feel the tip of it and boy was she cranky yesterday Sad. On the plus side though she slept 7-8am last night woo hoo Grin
Obviously that won't happen again as Oscar and her are sharing a room here...gulp!!
well, must go and talk with DH!!! What a result though can be on holiday and still watch Doc Martin..result Grin !!

pettyprudence · 03/10/2011 21:25

blimey our babies are being busy! A is rolling, sitting and can turn 180 on his tummy but can't go forwards or backwards yet, but he's only just 6 months now so not too bad so far. Still no teeth but plenty of hot flushed cheeks and stroppyness.

Just been to stay with my parents - A took full advantage of the warm weather and spent most of his time naked in the garden. I was a bit jealous tbh as it seemed sooooo nice. Back home though he took to waking in the night again, esp sat night when I was very late to bed and drank too much Wine. I swear the little bugger hears the bottle opener and stores up some energy - it happens every time (not an often occurrence, the wine, btw!).

A is also refusing to eat his mushed up food unless i hide it with pureed fruit (which he will eat all day long). I don't think its the lumps, as he is quite happy to tuck in to finger foods and purees, I think its the veg already. I blame DH for pulling faces when he has veggies Hmm

Right I'm off for a much needed early night and cross my fingers Arthur is in the sleeping through the night mood Grin

pettyprudence · 04/10/2011 19:56

ok A has become wise to hiding his chicken & veg in a fruit puree and is now refusing to eat anything except breadsticks and fruit. How the hell have I got such a picky eater already? Arrghhh hope its just him being off due to teething or something... at least he was a very good boy last night and let me sleep almost all night :)

Lozario · 04/10/2011 20:16

petty my DS was so frustrating to feed during the introducing lumps stage. But he didn't mind big chunks he could hold, like you said about A. So have you tried finger food veggies - eg fingers of courgette or carrot? Lara's current fav is roasted butternut squash - so easy, especially if you buy the pre-sliced packs, all you have to do is drizzle with oil and bung in the oven for 25 mins or so! shines new baby-led-weaning halo

pettyprudence · 04/10/2011 21:10

Lozario I have been thinking that I may need to switch to BLW - A quite happily tucks into anything he can hold. Bit if a bugger though as I have just made a freezer full of more food for him for whenever he can't have what we are having. Annoying as lumps were fine last week Hmm

Just bought some butternut squash today...

Medee · 04/10/2011 22:26

hello all, long time no post.

We too have our first tooth, and are getting on well with the weaning - mainly BLW, with one puree a day roughly.

I figure that with the BF if we have survived to 6 months might as well carry on. Not much choice anyway as she won't take a bottle, but it was suggested to me to try a cup. She likes cups - banging them about on her tray table, just not sure I want to see my precious expressed milk all over the dining room floor!

sam26oscar · 05/10/2011 01:06

hi ladies just here to rant really!!! as you know i am on holiday this week and so far its been shit and i want to go home Sad. feeling very sorry for myself, cassie got sick last night so was up for most of it finally giving up on sleep at around 4.45am and now tonight she is currently tucked up on my lap blowing raspberries at me after doing shush and pat for nearly 2hrs, DH bloody fecking useless as cassie won't go to him and DS sleep thru it all, as is DH now Angry. i hate this holiday!!! Days are ok as long as i have cassie but its a real strain cos she won't go to him at all, he then feels upset and thinks that she doesn't like him, god its like having 3 kids sometimes!! anyway, will try for the third time to put her down, seriously can see how putting head under a pillow and just letting them cry it out is a viable option!!!

haloflo · 05/10/2011 10:13

sam The middle of the night is the worst isn't it? I hope she dropped off when you put her down after your post.

lozario Pre-sliced butternut squash!? I have never heard of this but it sounds amazing!

medee We got our first tooth on Friday, second one is coming now too. I felt proud but sad when it poked through - my baby is growing up. I'm still bf'ing too, plan on carrying on to 1 year but DD might have other plans as she is a boob fanatic.

petty I hope Arthur gets the lumps soon. I guess you have to just keep trying? They are fickle things. One day Hannah hated broccoli, last night she scoffed some!

Anyway I will catch up properly soon. I am still tired and Hannah is still very clingy so I can't just leave her to play. Argh gtg, another 40 minute nap.

ckny1 · 05/10/2011 12:36

Nice to see people back on here and sorry that some babies are unwell or becoming picky (though agree that this may change)! Sometimes I wonder whether BLW also offers some of our babies a chance to get to their sore gums! This may be the only reason why Franz is so handy with his spoon, or a piece of roasted parsnip.

It's been extremely distressing here these past 2 days as Franz had a high fever and has a terrible stomach bug and is not his usual active self! :( Diarrhea 7 times yesterday and puked all his milk into his pelican bib 3 times! Had blood and orange stains in nappies, though thankfully that stopped. Today he is quite weak and pale, and only taking sips of milk and water (HATES the electrolyte med GP prescribed and I know he needs it!) Fortunately he's eating a few bites of food, though I'm really sad to see him this way. I had a good bawl when he went down to sleep last night, which probably scared the life out of my DH.

Sam, can't imagine how you feel having a sick baby and being away from home! Hope things get better or that you are comfie and at home soon.

Congrats to Sam, Medee and Halo's babies' first teeth!

1catherine1 · 05/10/2011 23:40

Aww... poor unwell babies and poor poor mummys!

Well, the big news is Anya has learnt a new trick - she can now support herself on her knees and her elbows. She kneels there rocking backwards and forwards as if she is wondering what to do next. It is quite cute especially when she tries to move one of her knees forward only to fall onto her side. I was all excited when I saw her do this so phoned the DP who just said "oh yea, she's been doing that all day" :( I hate work. She's quite happy though and it is nice when I come home and she sees me - she gives me a big smile, rolls onto her belly, rotates so she is facing me and flaps her arms and legs excitedly until I pick her up. I feel loved until I realize she is just excited for booby! We gave up with the milk during the day as it was just being thrown away...

Anyway... will try to catch up properly at weekend but for now I must go to bed. A long day of observations tomorrow... [yawn]

Lozario · 06/10/2011 08:51

sam I feel your pain. I was up from about 2 - 5 with madam last night. I am so tired I could cry. Gave up and fed her to sleep again (she'd been on and off boob all that time but not feeding just suckling) and then at 5ish DS woke needing a wee! I just feel desperate today. Made DH promise not to be late from work.

Very very close to doing controlled crying to get her through the night - the thing is I don't think she needs feeding overnight anymore, when she does feed its minimal and seems to jsut to be get back to sleep. And she has slept through before a few times.... as soon as the light was on last night she was all smiles.

I couldn't even look at her this morning! :(

Cheeseandbiscuits · 06/10/2011 12:15

Hey all,

We have had a rough couple of weeks. I'm still recovering and Isobel has been up in the night. No idea why! She just wanted a pat on the back and would then go back to sleep. She would do this every 15 mine gave up in the end and let her cry - she would then cry for 5 min and then go back to sleep. Whatever it was, it's stopped as she slept 7-7 last night.

She is now constantly on the move too! When I picked her out of her pram yesterday, she quickly grabbed a tray of cakes in a coffee shop and pulled it down - cakes everywhereBlush. Crikey, they are quick now!
How lovely was the sunshine? We hotfooted it to the coast and had a lovely few days on the beach.

ckny hope Franz is better, lots of babies seem to have tummy bugs at the moment. Hope he is settling

Sam how was the rest of your hol? Have things improved?

lozario I was at the end of my tether with Isobel too, keep repeating this too will pass.

Waves to everyone else!

Purplefan · 06/10/2011 13:15

Hi all,
Sorry been a while since my last post, just been so busy with work and household stuff and of course the children!!! Wink

Thank-you to anyone that voted for Beth in her competition, she didn't win...Sad, but I appreciate all your support!

Petty sorry to hear A getting picky with his food... Beth went through that last week and wouldn't eat anything savoury for the childminder... she started eating savoury again for me on my days off and is now back to eating fine!!
She won't tolerate lumps in her food yet and gets really upset if there are some - also still not interested in any finger food! She's strong willed!!! Smile

Sam I hope your holiday improved and that you did manage to get some respite!

Cheese what a nightmare about the tray of cakes... I hope the coffee shop were understanding about it!!!

Catherine - I feel your pain re work Sad how did your observations go? I was also observed on Monday with my lovely reception class!! My lesson was classed as good so I'm happy with that!

It must be time of year for poorly babies... hope they are all feeling better now. Beth is full of a nasty cough and cold!! Sad and just wants Mummy today, nice of her to plan it for my day off though! Wink

Someone was asking about periods returning... mine came back when Bethan was just 4 months old and I was still EBF!!! boo!!! I have even been for that lovely smear test today too!!

Hope all well... xx

sam26oscar · 06/10/2011 21:47

Hi ladies,
Yes thankfully my holiday did get better Smile. Still here, its our last night and have been out for a meal and now watching new programme on BBC1 Hidden, i love Phillip Glenister!! And also log fire burning too! Ohh and a jacuzzi... am i making you all jealous Wink.
Back home and to the horrible task of job hunting Sad. Was made redundant whilst on maternity leave,as i am a nanny, there really isn't any kind of rights so to speak for us, also, i knew that i wouldn't be going back so it was a mutual decision. Still, i need to work so i must find a lovely family to look after and earn some money!!
Cassie seems to have another tooth pop up, which could explain why she was up for hours on Tuesday night? She won't really let me in to check!!
I am doing really well on letting her eat more chunky things!! I still won't let her hold things and bite them but i will give her pieces broken off bite size like fish fingers or blueberries, which she loved!! She also likes rice of any kind, rice pudding and paella and rissotto!
I left Cassie with DH this afternooon whilst DS and i went Roller skating!!! She was fine as she was asleep when i left yso when she woke i wasn't there to stsrt with. We had a fab time and and laughed so much at DS doing dance moves whilst on skates looking like Bambi on ice..hysterical!
\Well, must go as seem to be missing the plot on tele!!
Nite all x

sam26oscar · 06/10/2011 21:48

Ohh purple just had second one on holiday, not as annoyed as DH was though Grin

pettyprudence · 07/10/2011 13:58

Just a quick check-in here - got another one who is poorly sick - snotting, sneezing, coughing and feeling very sorry for himself. A has spent most of today sleeping.

1catherine1 · 07/10/2011 21:14

Think Anya might be the next poorly baby as I'm feeling a bit worn down myself and like I have a cold coming on. Quite normal for me though when the weather changes so quickly. It is soooooooo cold this evening.

Have typed a couple of messages in the last few days but deleted them when I've got distracted - so busy. Got another busy weekend and week ahead of me but I might skip my marking and spend more time playing with Anya this weekend, she's such a little giggler.

Hope poorly babies are starting to feel better and no more get poorly.

Oh, and well done on your good lesson Purple. The observer walked into the lesson our student teacher was taking so I wasn't observed at all in the end apart from when I decided to rescue the student from drowning from nerves. Confused It was apparent she was a student- the observer shouldn't have stayed so long.

Amyway. I'm going to bed - I need to catch up with my sleep. OH has promised me a lie-in on Sunday but I don't trust him to not back out or claim that Anya needs booby so I HAVE to get up and he "might as well stay in bed as I'm up already"...

highlandbird · 10/10/2011 08:52

oh dear, hope all the poorly babies and mums get better soon!! Sam glad you had a god holiday in the end, really feel like I need one now, preferably some kind of spa weekend to myself Grin...I can dream right?!

Quick question before we head out for the day....anyone still sharing their bed with their LO?? Its omething I never wanted to do but we're now on what we call 'survival strategy' until we see the consultant, so he's been sleeping in with me for the last 3 weeks......wondering how difficult its going to be getting him back in his own bed again Hmm

Also, those still BF, how many feeds a day now?? we have 4 but still then another 2 at nihgt, wondering if should try and feed him more in the day?

Hope you all have a good Monday!

highlandbird · 10/10/2011 08:53

that should have said a good holiday, my keyboard's knackered!!!!

highlandbird · 10/10/2011 08:54

.....as am I!!!!

KPidgeon · 10/10/2011 12:00

Hi all,
Sorry for no show and not reading through all I've missed. Elijah seems to have been snotty and unable to breathe easily for weeks now- partly colds and partly teething I think (still no teeth though) was sick twice over the weekend but not distressed by it- just phleghm (sorry!)
Cheeks were red hot on Saturday night so his teeth gave him lots of trouble- couldn't sleep Saturday but okay yesterday. We are down to one feed at night which is wonderful. Sleeps at 7pm, feeds at 1/2/3 am and goes through until 6.40/7am.

Highland I feed him at 7am, 11am (ish)3pm ish and 7pm. Then once in the night. He also has 3 "meals" a day.

Why do you need to see a consultant? Sorry if you've already said- hope things are okay. E has never co-slept. I don't mind the idea but my OH is big and such a deep sleeper we'd worry about him rolling onto E.

Weaning started brilliantly all those weeks ago here but recently E is spurning all my lovely purees so we too are having a lot more BLW here. Loved purple sprouting broccoli one day! Then wasn't bothered the next but wants his food real and solid and to hold it himself- very wilful but I quite like that.

Hope poorly babies and mums get better soon.

pettyprudence · 10/10/2011 22:45

highland under non-poorly circs we are down to 4 feeds per day, none in the night (but he does wake for various reasons). Feeds are roughly 8,12,3,6.

Weaning going further down hill - vegetables and savoury in any form, along with weetabix (he was on 1.5 for breakfast at one point) is no longer acceptable, only fruit in any way. I won't give in to fruit until tea time though when I stuff him full of banana to make him sleep Hope things will improve once he's over the cold Hmm

Sam & Purple is it the monday of half term we were going to meet? I have totally forgotten as I didn't put it on facebook straight away - oops!

Hope Mums and babies are feeling better :)

Muser · 11/10/2011 09:37

Highland I was going to say we're on 4ish feeds during the day but as I write it down I realise it's more than that at the moment! It was about 4 a week or so ago but she's gone a bit nuts. We were doing 7am, 11am, 3pm, 6.30pm. Then 2 feeds during the night.

At the moment it is 6.30am (I hate this new wake up time), 7.30am (because I put her back down after the 6.30am and she decides that another breakfast is in order when she gets up again), 11am, 2pm, 4pm, 6.30pm. I was trying to get some more into her to help with night wakings but it hasn't really worked. There is quite a lot of teething going on here. I thought she had one top tooth but it turns out to be two.

JoJoB77 · 11/10/2011 14:13

Hello everyone

Been a while since here last, lots going on I see and lots going on here too.

R is in the midst of teething and it's a nightmare. First bottom tooth emerged a few weeks ago after a couple of days of major grumpiness. Things settled down until the weekend where she had several meltdowns - the second bottom tooth is now emerging so that explains it, it must be so painful for her.

She always woke during the night prior to teeething but this has just messed nights up completely - sometimes she will wake at 3am and not settle again until nearer 6am. It feels like we've gone back to the newborn days!

Aside from teething, she is a wonderfully chunky little baby and is coming along so quickly developmentally wise. She is rolling all over the place and if it isn't her hands in her mouth it's her feet!

Re weaning, I'm taking it slowly - currently on 2 meals a day alongside her bottles (7am, 11am, 3pm and 7pm). She has the odd finger food which usually ends up on the floor somewhere.

Sorry to hear of the ill babes and mommies - hope it passes soon x

Medee · 11/10/2011 15:24

we're vaguely on 3 meals a day but only dinner, and maybe breakfast gets something substantial into her, so breast feeds are roughly when she awakes, late morning, mid-afternoon, sometimes late afternoon, bedtime, then once or twice in the night, so that is about 5-7 times.
