hi again everyone - blimey - I've only been away for a week and this thread has grown HUGE! Probably won't get a chance to read it all - sorry - will try and catch up a bit. We've been to CenterParcs for the week and have just got back. Had an absolutely fabulous time - DH got a real proper insight into what it's like for me having to cope with DS every day! - and he had me with him to help him!!! It was lovely for DS to get to spend some quality time with his dad too. The villa was lovely, cosy real fire etc and the weather was fantastic! Shame to be back in London really! DS's cold is still really horrible , but he is getting really really smiley which is totally fabulous!. I hope everyone else is doing well and looking forward to thier baby's first xmas (not that they will know any different!!)

itschristmas · 03/12/2005 20:16

Hello again!

Took ds to see Santa - as wanted to know exactly what he does want for Christmas - other than everything! Ds really enjoyed it but Santa's little helper asked when I was due dd was with my mum. I know my tummy is large but really! Afterwards my mum said it was a compliement that he thought that and that I wasn't just fat! ummmmm RHXXX

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 03/12/2005 20:47

((hugs)) Itschristmas, I had that all the time just after DD, makes you feel realy self concious doesn't it?

NoahTheRedNosedBaby · 03/12/2005 22:04

Aww poor you itschritmas, funny you never really hear a woman saying anything like that!

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 03/12/2005 22:45

Conrad just rolled over.... Back to front over his right arm and then front to back over his left arm Poor daddy's at his this weekend... said to tell him when Conrad's talking - I said I'd get Conrad to call himself

Poor man - I know he feels keenly that he's missing out

RH - Nasty Nasty Santas Helper He won't be getting anything for christmas! Meanie.

Smiling - nice you're back, I'd love my dp to be able to spend a week here so he could see how time consuming the little ones are. Ho Hum, I hope he does find out sometime.

Hello to everyone else - I've had a glass of wine and I'm feeling decidedly squiffy so better go!

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 03/12/2005 22:46

Ooooh - just had wave of Christmassyness!!!

Night

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 04/12/2005 10:38

Morning all words of wisdom for the weekend (oops should of posted these yesterday)

Motherhood is a flame that once lit can never be extinguished.

Motherhood has a beginning but no end.

Ther is no limit to all the good a devoted mother can acomplish.

And my personal favourite - Mothers come with a lifetime guarantee.

Thanks for sharing your proud mummy moment Cabe.

itschristmas · 04/12/2005 11:32

Hello!

Thanks for your kind words regarding my belly experience!

Off christmas shopping!!

DD slept from 10pm until 9am !! ds(6) was however up 5 times in the night asking Mummy and Daddy to promise they would not leave! Think this a combination of going out the night before (very rare) and watching Harry Potter (scared him a a little!)

LadyLazarus · 04/12/2005 17:18

at santa's little helper RH!! that's awful! i hope they freeze in the snow!

can i pick everyone's brains? when i bought my steriliser pack, it came with 2 avent cups which have handles on the sides... they say from 3 months +.. i was just wondering, as elise IS now 3 months, do i start using them? they are only 140ml, so wouldn't get a feed of milk in them, but could use them for water or something.. will she get confused with the teet of the bottle and the cup top?

and when do babies start drinking more than the 2fl oz twice a day of extra drinks? (ie water)

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 04/12/2005 18:15

Hello!

The round table Santa's coming round is it really that close???

Mummyhill - they're lovely words of wisdom today... Thankyou I was so excited when Conrad rolled over yesterday... as you've seen he is quite a little dot and I thought it would be ages away

Oh RH - up five times? Poor little man must have been very worried, hope you get a better night tonight xx

itschristmas · 04/12/2005 20:09

LadyLazarus-hello

I started using cups with handles when ds was coming up for a year and was holding the drink himself. I rarely fed ds other drinks (just his milk)- unless he had a bad snotty cold or it was a very warm day - when he had a little water.

Rolling over Harktheheraldcabewillsing! - wow watch him on changing unit/bed etc. The first time ds did this on my bed whilst I was in the toliet and rolled off the bed he was fine but I nearly had heart failure!

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy - Mothers come with a lifetime guarantee - or your money back!!! RHXX

NoahTheRedNosedBaby · 04/12/2005 21:38

if only itschristmas!

at conrad cabe. How old is he now?

it was Noah's dedication (christening) today, really good day, he didn't sleep much so hopefully a nice long night sleep is on order for me.

night all

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 04/12/2005 23:16

NoahtheRedNosedBaby - He'll be 11 weeks on Tuesday

ItsChristmas - I know, I won't be able to do the 'I'll just pop you there whilst...' thing again

Hope we've all had good weekends... I've just finished the mamoth task of tidying out the cupboard-under-the-stairs [horror emoticon] I was half heartedly looking for Christmas decorations but no luck I'll have to look in the loft and shed next.

Nighty night

bEATieDRINKandbeMERRY · 05/12/2005 08:32

RTHRN-Zebra ~ My dd1 turned 3 two weeks ago and there has been no overnight miracle change in her behaviour. Should we look forward to age four?

I'm finding this age very difficult. Evryone keeps telling me what a great age gap 3 years is but I am not finding it so. Yes, dd1 is independent so can be helpful. She can get into her carseat herself, half dress herself, take herself to the toilet solo, feed herself etc... but the 'little madam' behaviour and constant commentary is something I could do without on a day to day basis. She was such a sweet-natured 1 - 2 year old that I had a feeling we were in for a rougher ride the closer to 3 she got. It is just a phase though........... isn't it?

Noah-TRNR ~ I know Sheppy well as my dad grew up there. My nan still lived there until she died and I have an uncle, aunt and cousin who still live there. Perhaps you know them! They're church goers too. Hmmm.... how many churches are there in Sheerness? Still, these coincidences happen.

Cabe ( to you being squiffy) and dtHILLSwboMummy ~ I'm pleased to hear you had a nice meet up. What did you do?

Cabe - Is Conrad a long slim baby? My friend had an early roller and at the time her baby was so much longer than everyone sels's the same age.

PartyPooka - I'm feeling much more excited about Christmas with dd1 getting into it. I love the idea of creating some of our own traditions, as a family, and incorporating some from my childhood and DH's childhood.

Carols from Kings and a champagne breakfast/brunch during present opening are definitely on the agenda this year. What time do you have your champagne?

RH - santa's helper! What did you say? What did he say back? I hope his red elfy cheeks went even redder.

My news now We've had too nights of very disturbed sleep as Alice continues to be blocked up with cold. She's still coughing a lot. Poor little thing.

The good news (I think) is we got her upstairs, sleeping on her own, at 8pm. I'm hoping that did not contribute to her screwed nightime sleep pattern. I'm hoping it's her cold and that once it has gone she'll sleep for more than 2.5 hours in one go [tired emotion]

Hope everyone is well.

PickasillyChristmasName · 05/12/2005 08:59

I am ill .

I have a temperature, sore throat and my whole body aches. I have no energy. Luckily DS is at nursery today.

DD and I have been out to buy me lucozade, painkillers etc.

I am not impressed .

partypooka · 05/12/2005 09:18

Pooryou PC. There'sno chance of you taking it easy really either, is there.
Beatie - 10.30am ish for the champagne and smoked salmon. Yum yum yum. We've also had more wakefulness at night. Think it may be a growth spurt, or may be as a result of me eating too much curry and having wine as well. Hope it's not that, though.
I'm in Bromley TMK, so not very near at all. Used to go to Sheppey with my mother for bracing sea walks. You were thinking of moving to Lewisham, weren't you though. That's MUCH nearer. Hope Noah slept well
Went to a fantastic adventure gym soft play place yesterday with dh, dd, and TOm. Foudn myself getting ridiculously JEALOUS of dh spending fun time with dd while I sat with Tom.On the one hand it was nice to have a relaxing coffee reading the papers. On the other hand I feel that most of my time with dd involves me barking orders at her in a sergeant-majorish way while she dawdles and generally not being a "fun mum", and I really miss the days of being able to just enjoy her, enjoying herself.
Ho hum - but I suppose it's only natural that at weekends dh wants to spend time with her, and vice versa.

jaydeelady · 05/12/2005 09:51

happy christmas one and all! love the xmassy feel, not posted all w/e due to ds 12th b'day - blimey i feel old.
have thought of a name but now to try how to change the profile. back in a tick

jinglebellslady · 05/12/2005 09:54

have i done it yet?

jinglebellslady · 05/12/2005 09:59

Finally getting the hang of this technology thing!!! Last xmas we had 26 for xmas dinner then 30 for tea. It was great fun and i cooked 4 turkeys!! decided that three wasn't enough so sent dh up the road on xmas eve to buy another and he came back with a frozen one so had to send him back for a fresh one! bless him we had turkey for weeks . This year we're having beef. Just us at home so no one to worry about with the op and all. Feeling a bit tense about the whole thing with taking Naomi up t the hosp. Still she is now sleeping all night usually 8-6 or 7. I hope the upheaval dosen't unsettle her. She is still not taking a bottle and i still can't express any milk . now trying a beaker - poor love won't know what 's hit her.

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 05/12/2005 12:27

oht - so apologise for no caps.

beatiedrinkandbemerry - we went to a cafe it would have been nice to have explored the cathedral but i was a bit late and it was rainy... we had lots to talk about and babes to admire - time went very quickly! DecktheHills is organising a Post Christmas meet at the Botanical Gardens, I'm looking forward to it already!

yes long and slim baby here! i'd wondered if that was making rolling easier for him.

PaSCN - you poor thing {{{{hugs}}}} do you think you need the docs?

Jinglebells - at 16 for cristmas dinner! has dd2 had to go for surgery before? i think you are being amazingly calm (ohh that's better - hands free for a moment ) Will you have a parents room at Great Ormond Street? Any idea how long you'll be there?

Not surprised you're opting for a non-Turkey christmas dinner this year!!

PartyPooka - I think it's easy for mums of little children (3,4,& 5) to feel like the Sunshiney Play-times have been taken over by barking orders - I was always sad at how everyone else seemed to get all the chuckles and fun with Nandy and I got the reluctant, sullen, tired little girl. It goes with the territory But it does change as they get older Me and Noop now have the sillyest times together - our senses of humour are just the same

DecktheHills - hope you're having a good day, give your lovely snuggly boy a cuddle from me xx

OK - I had a sneaky peek at the Oct babies thread and liked one of the questions being asked...

What has been your 1)best buy for baby 2)worst buy?

Now I'm bogging off to think about it!!!

Sorry this is so long. No one to talk to

itschristmas · 05/12/2005 12:44

Hello!

PickasillyChristmasName - sympathy for the cold - still got mine and really miserable! Try to have a sit down and drink and much as you can (hot toddy!!!) xx

Beatie - did not answer Santas bleeding awful helper just laughed nervously!!

jinglebellslady - 26 for dinner!! - glad your quieter this year! I'll be thinking of your dd as her op gets closer - bless herxx

Cabe - best buy - worst buy?? umm have to think about that!

milward · 05/12/2005 12:46

hello to all xxx - will catch up on posts. Hope everyone is doing well xxx

PickasillyChristmasName · 05/12/2005 12:51

Just slept for longer than I managed last night and woke up drenched in sweat. Temperature has gone down and \i feel rather more human.

Alice has been lovely, either sleeping or just being quietly in her cot while the poorly mummy slept. Hope this is just going to be a 24 hour thing.

bEATieDRINKandbeMERRY · 05/12/2005 14:58

PaSCN - hope your illness is short lived.

Cabe - I have answers for your questions

1)best buy for baby

The Tigex ergonomic baby bath support (borrowed actually) It allows us to easily dunk Alice into dd1's bath. We're hands free for washing her and we can still have the water level high enough for dd1.

2)worst buy? My changing bag. I got a new one for Alice and you'd think I'd have learnt from the first time round. It's too big. Mostly I need to leave the house with a spare nappy, wipes, body suit and change of clothes (bodysuit/sleep suit. I don't need a massive great big bag with pockets and bottle holders.

I expect it'll get more use on weekends when DH and I take the girls out for a whole day or to pack for Alice for overnight stays (long into the future she'll stay at grandma's) but at the moment it is just annoyingly big and cumbersome.

jessyandabbysmummy · 05/12/2005 15:46

Hello all! Love the christmas names. Have been lurking on DH's handheld for a while as PC finally gave up the ghost but those things are impossible to type more than one sentence on so now that we've got a new PC (could have been doing without the expense while on mat leave and just before christmas) I can finally post.
Trouble is i can't remember who posted what so sorry if i don't respond to everyone.
jaydeelady - happy birthday to your ds.
noahtrnb - happy dedication day to noah!
dthillswbomummy - like the inspirations!
hrhcabews - your little man is growing up so fast...but then aren't all our little people?
Comiserations to everyone suffering from colds. We're all lurgyed up here too, icluding abigail whose first jabs had to be postponed this am because of it.
After having had little or no social life for months, it's all happening this week. Tomorrow christmas lunch with girls that i met through dd1's baby massage group. Followed by A-ha (remember them?) concert tomorrow night. Day of christmas shopping with mum - more of an anual day out than a shopping expedition on Wed and DH's Christmas do (masquerade ball) on thurs. Recover fri and then off to visit party mad aunt at weekend. think i might regret all this activity next week but hey, it is christmas!
Off to think of hilarious christmas name. hope all are well. tootles...
