itschristmas · 02/12/2005 12:40

Hello!

Getting ready for Christmas here! have taken Christmas stuff out of the roof - looking for the fabric advent calenders - what alot of christmas cr*p we have! what a mess I've made!

Going for a christmas dinner this evening!

Rachel has a terrible cold too - she woke up in the night! - so did ds - 3 times!!! !! love rh!!

On my way to Christdingle service at the church -hope ds dosn't drop candle like last year!!! He's a fire starter.......

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 02/12/2005 12:53

Talking about fire starters at Christmas services... my dad once set fire to his beard at christmas mass

We put him out pretty sharpish!!!!

Love the christmassy feel this thread's getting

PC think you've got to take the Christmas name crown so far!!! love it

PickasillyChristmasName · 02/12/2005 13:21

Thank you . Although I can't claim the credit for it - someone else suggested it last year when I was stuck for inspiration. I wonder who it was - maybe I will trawl the archive and try and find out.

DS is having a nap. Hooray . I love him dearly but he is fairly intense (as all two year olds are I suppose). Alice is looking at me from her bouncer and making gruffling noises.

itschristmas, we're in Bedfordshire as well .

Beatie, I'm glad you will be able to watch your DD1. There must be lots of people who are in the same position as you - I hope I don't have a similar problem in years to come.

bEATieDRINKandbeMERRY · 02/12/2005 13:51

Sometimes it is such a relief to have dd1 in bed for an afternoon nap. She's not really done anything naughty this morning.... it's just the way 2/3 yearolds are. Sort of in my personal space ALL the time.

We attempted to make gingerbread men but the mixture went wrong and ended up in the bin so to compensate I let dd1 have a large bowl of ice cream after her lunch.

I took Alice to the doctor and he listened to her chest and back and said she was fine. He told me the signs that would indiciate a chest infection but said it is rare in a bf baby - not that I got the impression it is common in a non-bf baby. I'm still pleased I took her to the doctor. I'm usually the type to put off going.

So, is anyone feeling Christmassy? The only things I have out are fabric advent calendars and one real cardboard advent calendar to practice number recognition with dd1. Oh yes, and I sought out our Christmas songs CD (all our CDS are still in boxes since we moved, er, 4 months ago!) to help dd1 remember some words for her concert.

What is everyone's baby up to? Alice seems to have a very strong back and keeps pulling herself up out of a lying position when in her bouncy chair. It worries me when the bouncy chair is on the hard kitchen floor as I can imagine her flopping forward out of it.... even though she is strapped in. Roll on full head control then we can get a Bumbo chair.

PickasillyChristmasName · 02/12/2005 13:55

beatie - we moved here in March and CDs are still in boxes ...

Now I have the problem that DS (and DD for that matter) are asleep and also not in fancy dress outfits and we are supposed to be at a party that starts at 2, which is 15 minutes drive away.

Suppose I should gently wake him up and turn them into Christmassy people.

(Alice just woke up )

But it is nice to have some peace....and a party with LOTS of toddlers will not be peaceful

PickasillyChristmasName · 02/12/2005 13:56

Glad that Alice is fine. My Alice had a similar cough a few weeks ago and I also took er tp the doctor to be told she was fine (but it's good to be told isn't it).

Right, off to the party we go

teenmumkent · 02/12/2005 14:14

Hi everyone,

glad to see most people are doing great. Noah and i have colds poor little monkey just wants his mummy, i just want to sleep!!

Anyway a date has now been set for wedding and of cpurse i want all of you as bridesmaids and all your children as bridesmaids and paigeboys..they will hopefully all be walking by then.

partypooka · 02/12/2005 15:13

I'm with everyone who finds 2 year olds rather full-on. I think it's the contrast between dd and ds that I find so shocking - she's growing up so fast. At the same time, she's going through a phase of wanting to be babied, which is fair enough - she's still my baby girl after all. So lots of puttting her on my shoulder and winding her, carrying her and cradling her like I do with TOm. Dummy and "noukie" are pretty much permanently around ( to the dummy part). She likes to lie in Tom's pram with her feet haning out while watching Angelina. Bless her! I'm all for indulging this wherever I can, but am a bit sad that she's very anti a lot of "big girls" things - i.e. potty training. Haven't really got my act together and I think she can sense that I am rather half-hearted about it as well. Just feel that a few days of staying in to get the training going well would be purgatory at the moment - I do love our outings.
Glad you've set a date TMK. Whereabouts in Kent are you - might be near me?
Have chosen dull Xmas name.

itschristmas · 02/12/2005 16:04

Hello again

Appologies for Christdingle - obviously it is a Christingle church service and I watch too much Emmerdale ( a soap opera for our international friends)

Harktheheraldcabewillsing -Bet your Dad had a nasty fright setting his beard alight- love the new name!

PCN - let me know if I can every do anything to help as we are in the same County.

Must go and try to beautify myself - christmas dinner this evening - I may be some time!

itschristmas · 02/12/2005 16:13

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy - I like "no surrender" it does feel like a bit of a war sometimes - and a war I'm not winning, but I'm not giving in!

zoezebra · 02/12/2005 16:35

Hi, Its been a rather long time since I caught up with the Sept Girls and bubs.
Bit confused, do we all have Christmassy names now??
Have read some of your posts and got the general idea of whats going on but think I have some catch up reading!! Jasper is now 3 months today. Can't believe how quick time has gone.
We are moving home, first week in Jan so I have tons to do, on top of Christmas which I have decided to boycott this year (except for Santa stockings for DD1)!
Will have a proper catch up when DH gets home and send another post and perhaps try and post a link to a pic of J. Not quite worked out how you do this yet. Also, do I have to change my name to be part of the Sept gang?? Can't quite get brain in gear to make zoezebra sound Christmassy .

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 02/12/2005 17:54

Cabe - Thanks for a lovely afternoon must do it again soon Conrad is beautiful.

TMK glad to see that apart from a cold you are ok.

ZOEZEBRA - Christmas names are optional but fun.

Itschristmas - The no surrender quote was for all mummies battling with an older child as well as a baby. It deffinatley feels like a war zone in our house most days at the moment I just keep repeating no surrender you are the adult she is the child she will learn that grownups make the rules and little people have to follow them or pay the consequences

rudolphtherednosedzebra · 02/12/2005 18:49

Have chosen silly christmas name!
Going through a nightmare with 3yr DD, she seems to have got more naughty now DS is part of our lives. Was hoping that once she turned 3 (Monday this week) that things would change. I was ever hopeful but skeptical as a friend told me the day hers turned 3, she changed and become angelic. LOL, did not work for us!! Have sympathy for all with toddlers and babies, at least we are all going through it together. Not that it makes it any easier to deal with.
Having sleep issues with DS, he goes down at 7pm after bath and feed and then sleeps til we wake him between 10 and 11pm. Then he will go til 2 or 3 and won't settle again. I have a big smiley face staring up at me and he coos and gurgles until I just give up and get up (usually around 5am). Due to this am very sleep deprived. He was doing great the first few weeks, as newborns generally do and now he seems to have slipped into this habit. I know that he can sleep through as he has done it twice. A friend suggested that he was getting too much sleep during the day, so today he was restricted to 45 mins this morning, a 2 hour after lunch and then 15-20 mins this afternoon. Fingers crossed for a good night but if anyone else is experiencing this or has any suggestions, please feel free to share .

NoahTheRedNosedBaby · 02/12/2005 19:09

Partypooka - i'm on sheppey when with my parents, but mostly down with df in ramsgate.
Wot bout you?

Couldn't help the name!

Everyone who's posted pix of Darling Children (DC) they all look so cute!

rudolphtherednosedzebra · 02/12/2005 19:13

Aggh LOL, we have chosen the same names - great minds think alike!! Will try to think of another in the next few days, sleep deprivation making brain not work!

rudolphtherednosedzebra · 02/12/2005 19:34

Darlingdaughter

deckthehillswithboughsofmummy · 02/12/2005 22:17

Zoe - As long as his weight gain is ok I wouldn't wake him, just let him sleep, you may find that he will go a bit longer.

Harktheheraldcabewillsing · 02/12/2005 22:31

Mummyhill - Had a lovely afternoon and felt very honoured that David continued his sleep in my arms. He's a lovely little man so sweet natured, you must be so proud

Yes we'll have to get together after Christmas and hit the sales!!!

When dad set his beard alight I think HE was the only one present not to be alarmed

Beatie - I'm beginning to feel christmassy - it's the advent candle and calendars, My sister found a lovely Jane Ray one for Noop and Conrad

Hope you poor sleep deprived ones get a good rest over the weekend...

Bubbles - your christmas name should definitely have Baubles in it somewhere! How many 'sleeps' is it now?

Night night all xx

jessinwa · 03/12/2005 04:15

Hi all.
No time to get totally caught up but I love all of the Christmas names and talk. I actually had to look-up the word "crimbo". I had never heard that word before. I looked it up on google and the first thing that came up was this . Not so sure that is the best representation of crimbo.
Must make dinner now. Have a great weekend all.

partypooka · 03/12/2005 08:12

I've never been particularly Christmassy - as a family we kind of eased off when my brothers and I were teens because my mother finds HER mother very stressful and as a result never looked forward to doing the family christmas thing. HOWEVER - now dd is getting to an age where she's actually looking forward to it I'm finding that some of the old excitement is returning. My mother is the same too! I want dd to enjoy Christmas the way I did, and the odd things we used to do when I was little that made it special.
Like: carols from Kings on christmas eve. Followed by very loud playing of Rolling Stones "SYmpathy for the devil" (my mother was a rocker!)
Bulging stockings.
Presents opened in strict rotation
Champagne and smoked salmon for brunch/during present opening (no Champagne for dd, though).
Special christmas bath (with candles and lots of bath foam - might leave out the "Father Christmas medicine - i.e. phenergen - that we used to take at bedtime, to make Father Christmas come!)
NOT watching the Queen's Speech.

LOL at you getting the Bo Selecta page up, Jess!

itschristmas · 03/12/2005 14:17

Hello!

Looking forward to christmas too.

3 weeks until Christmas eve!
