OMG we had a terrible night with our E. Jeez. He didn't sleep at all from 3pm until 8pm. (Usually would have had a serious nap in the pm then fallen asleep soundly around 6.30pm/7pm in his little chair) so tried to feed him and put him in the cot bed at 8.30pm and he raged! Couldn't do anything with him except kick hubbie out of bed and feed E/let him suckle with lying down and him at my side for 40 mins.. then he slept- woke up in another terrible mood 3 hours later. Gave him some calpol as he had his jabs on Friday so thought this may be part of it. Again, went off but only with me side-feeding and only in my bed.

He chose the hottest night to need body contact!

Woke again at 5.30am and fed then didn't sleep again until 10.50am. Poor little mite. I've given him some cooled boiled water and he's just in a nappy as it's such a hot day. He's not unhappy today, was just totally fighting sleep.

Odd. Bless him- he's generally a much easier baby to have around now as the magic 12-week mark saw a huge increase of smiling and contentment. It's really easy to make him smile now.

HOpe you're all managing to keep cool.

cherub59 · 27/06/2011 12:35

Lozario- can't get O to take a bottle either. Once my mastitis clears am going to try again but get someone else to do it with me in another room!

Lozario · 27/06/2011 14:09

bottles - well I hadn't expected a problem so the first 2 times I tried, I just left DH with her, a bottle and DS whilst I went shopping! I tried this wknd and could see what DH meant - she just won't even latch on to it, just cries. I'll try some different teats - I want to go out!! ;-) (when I say out, I mean maybe do the supermarket shop on my own?! sigh ...)

KPidgeon I bet it was the heat that got to him - I find it either makes them sleep for ages or not at all. DS has always been awful in the heat, as a baby he'd have really struggled on a night like last night. On the other hand, Lara slept her best night yet last night, 11 hours straight. Couldn't believe it as had been expecting the opposite. Do you have a fan? That really helped DS - and the noise it made kept him asleep for ages too as it's like white noise!! I think tonight is the last really hot night so it should improve for you, fingers crossed x

pettyprudence · 27/06/2011 15:12

KPidgeon we are having a very similar time here with Arthur. Everytime his eyes almost close for a nap, he starts crying :(

As soon as he finishes feeding i'm off to buy a fan!

KPidgeon · 27/06/2011 17:56

Thanks ladies. He's been in his nappy only all day. Heat is not fun for little people is it. Couldn't get out today as had people over but will send OH to buy fan tomorrow and keep everything crossed for a better night for us- and little Arthur and petty too.

Muser · 27/06/2011 18:07

My tip for the heat is to run a muslin under the cold tap, ring it out and pop it over the baby's head. Lovely and cooling. My girl was crying and as soon as I did it she stopped and just looked at me with delight.

We also had a shower this afternoon to cool down, that was lots of fun!

Crikey, it is hot!Its 28degrees in DD room...just the 0.5 growbag for her. She's asleep for now, phew. Hope everyone is in for a good night. We spent the day in the park under a tree. Izzy and her pal went for a paddle in the paddling pool and loved it, so lovely!

Enjpying hearing all the stories of Lo's rolling, its so cute isn't it!

Izzy still has diarrhoea, 10days on so has a sore wee bum Sad. I'm wondering if it is related to teething, but am going to take her to GP's tomorrow as its going on a bit long. She has 2 little teeth about to come through so that may be it.

cherub59 · 27/06/2011 22:45

cheese have you tried metanium for her sore bottom? Worked wonders on my boys though it is bright yellow so don't get it in clothes!

[drum roll] I have ollie asleep in his cotbed for the first time ever.... My bed feels sooooo empty!!!!

Cheeseandbiscuits · 27/06/2011 23:02

No cherub I haven't but I'll get some tomorrow, thanks! Congrats on the cotbed - what a big boy!

cherub59 · 28/06/2011 06:10

This is SO going to bite me on the bum tonight.... But ollie slept through till 4.20!!!!!!! From 8pm!!!!!! On his own!!!!!

[happy dancing currently around my bedroom]

Lozario · 28/06/2011 07:07

woop woop Cherub :-) is he still in your room or in his own room? We've only got 2 bedrooms so Lara will have to go in with DS at some point. She's still in her moses basket as I still haven't summoned the courage for cot!

Soooooo hot!!

sam26oscar · 28/06/2011 09:26

sam26oscar · 28/06/2011 09:26

cherub yay well done Ollie Smile its so nice when they do it, bet you woke at some point though Wink, i know i do!! Its not so hot here, although says 26 degrees in my room it doesn't really feel that hot and its cloudy too Sad. You may find cherub that that was all Oliie wanted? His own space? Cassie slept from 8pm til 1am then slept til 6am then again til 8am i got up at 6am and had some lovely quiet time til Ds woke at 7.30am. i got showered , dressed had cup of tea emptied dishwasher put washing on...Wow its amazing what you can do without kids Wink Well, am meeting a couple of MN 2moro @ Cribbs in Bristol, looking forward to meeting them Smile. wer'e off into town to get a couple of pressies to send out to daddy for his birthday next week...left it a bit late but hey ho!!

edeluna · 28/06/2011 09:37

Congratulations on the long hours of sleep, cherub -- for both you and Ollie! That's great.

S has done a solid 4 or 5 hours from 11pm to 4am -- but not in a very long time now. Has regressed to getting up at 2am, then 4am, then being very restless pretty much the rest of the very early morning. So I feel like I've been getting up at 4am for weeks and this morning am very grumpy and feeling like this just can't continue and I must be doing something wrong if she won't sleep through more of the night. She's not sleeping much during the day (despite my efforts to get her to nap), so it's not an issue of too much daytime sleep. And she's gaining weight, so definitely getting enough food. Grrr.

I think today will require chocolate.

pettyprudence · 28/06/2011 09:58

Edeluna it could be too little day time sleep?

Arthur likes to chop and change how much he will sleep at night on a daily basis, which leaves me on ternder hooks unable to sleep - Grr. Some nights he will go 8/9 - 2/3 -5/6, sometimes 6-10/11/12 - 2/3 -6/7 and all variations in between!

I think I froze the poor mite last night as I had the fan on full blast next to his cot - I really needed to swaddle him so he could sleep. He slept from 8- 12.15 (and only woke up because DH had to move him from pram to bed - I was already tucked up!) then til 3.40 then 6.40. He has a thing for twenty to the hour Hmm.

Looking forward to the Bristol meet up tomorrow Smile

Cheeseandbiscuits · 28/06/2011 13:14

Congrats on the sleep cherub, maybe it was his cotbed?!?

Took Izzy to GP as day 10 of diarrhoea, although her cough and cold is better. Told it was prob viral and so will settle, but gave me antibiotics for her chest [hmmm]. That won't help her poor runny bum so will hold of giving her them for now. She is in fine spirits though!

There is a storm here, thank goodness. Much cooler. It measured 28dgrees in Isobels room last night. She didn;t seem that bothered though!

Purplefan · 28/06/2011 14:35

Hi all,

Not alot to report here. This weather is not nice for little ones especially at night - we have a ceiling fan which helps keep our bedroom cooler but it still took ages to settle Beth the last couple of nights!!

How exciting that some of our babes are rolling and that 1st teeth appearing -there are no signs of either here though!!

Looking forward to meeting sam and Petty tomorrow in Bristol Smile

haloflo · 28/06/2011 19:56

Hi all. Not much to report here. Hannah's sleeping is still mostly rubbish. I don't think its quite as hot up in the NW as we have only reached 24 degrees in our bedroom.

I am convinced she doesn't feed enough during the day. My boobs feel soft and empty in the mornings, full at lunch, empty again by evening. I keep offering feeds during the day but often she latches on for 2 minutes and thats it. Oh well, hopefully it will pass.

Naps are still hard to come by. I dread the day she gets too big for her bouncy chair.

Anyone gone out in an evening with their LO? We have been invited to a BBQ on Sunday afternoon/evening. I was thinking I feed her at 6 in a quiet room and settle her in her pram for 7 until its time to go home? We would then have to transfer her to the car seat and then into cot. Is it worth the stress or do we leave at 5?

cheese I hope Izzys diarrehoea clears soon.

petty Hannah likes to mix it up too.

edeluna Hannah is also much harder to settle after 4. Maybe its because its light? I usually end up cosleeping for the last couple of hours in bed.

pettyprudence · 28/06/2011 20:32

halo haven't done this yet but we are off to an afternoon/evening party a week on sunday. im not sure how long we will go for yet but as we don't really have a bedtime routine I figured I'm not really messing anything up? When i transfer him from pram to car seat he should go back to sleep in the car anyway and then I'll just leave him in the seat in the house until he wakes up (which knowing my luck he will do his first all nighter. I feel guilty when he sleeps for a long time in his car seat but he does seem to like it in there!)

sam26oscar · 28/06/2011 20:41

haloflofrom what i understand, softness of boobs isn't a problem as your body gets used to what baby needs and isn't a sign of poor or little milk production, i too was concerned but HV said it was fine if baby is content then no problem!! Cassie sleeps well in her bouncy chair too!! I transfer her after shes fallen asleep on me and at lunchtime she can sleep up to 2 hrs in it Grin.
Re BBQ, i took Oscar and Cassie to my sisters on sat and by the time tea had finished it was getting on for 7pm. I bathed them both and fed Cassie in the front room then put her in her car seat ( its a jane one which lies flat across the back seat) and she didn't wake up until i took her out of the car to go into the house at 11.30pm. Also i am going on holiday in 3 weeks and fully intend to go out each evening with them, i think its ok to have a good routine but i also think that its good for them to be flexible too!!
I'm glad i'm not the only one whose baby finds it hard to settle after 4am!! Cassie slept til 6am today and i put her back in her cot (i don't want her to think its ok to get up that early!!!) and bless her cottons, she stayed there cooing and gurgling away until she dropped off at 6.45am til 8am Grin
Spoke to DH this evening and Cassie was screeching away--- its her new sound!! He wondered what on earth was going on!!
Well, Holby is on so going to watch that and looking forward to meeting to tomorrow Smile

Jupiter118 · 28/06/2011 21:08

arse just lost post, but as only watching Holby will retype (in word tho so can copy and paste). sam glad I am not the only holby watcher - Madge Bishop from Neighbours seems to be in it tonight!!

halo go for it and go out. Agree with sam that baby flexibility is a good thing. We took E out every other night on holiday ? fed on arrival at restaurant, cuddled for a bit til drowsy and then carseat until getting home and then transfer to travel cot. And if they stay awake they might enjoy people watching? So much easier when they are small ? for DS had to trug colouring pencils, books etc to keep him entertained.

edeluna hope much chocolate consumed and sleep improves.

cherub yay for the cotbed success and fingers crossed for tonight

cheese hope the poorly bot clears up soon. DS used to have foul nappies for days on end when teething ? really vile smell also ? very acrid. DH and I wondered if as he didn?t dribble much if he swallowed all the excess drool and made himself a bit loose. e so far shows signs of being a dribbler ? wet necklines all round.

rolling we had one protest roll from front to back about 3 weeks ago ? dislike of tummy time and nothing since. She is much more interested in objects though and trys to grab everything including my hair ? ouch.

Not much else to report here. Went to take that last night which was ace and went to Buggfit today which was really good fun. Going to join weightwatchers tomorrow - groan but has to be done.

Envy of the Bristol meet up and London one to. Was pondering the London meet as only 1 hour 10 to Euston, but not sure if any cheap train tickets available.

Quick question - monitors any good recommendations?? Out first one was lent out and after four years multiple babies is a bit knackered.

Over and out for now.

Jxx

cherub59 · 28/06/2011 23:02

Jupiter bt baby monitor 150 is brill - we've used ours for nearly 4 years and I love it...

O in his bed again- fingers crossed! Took him swimming today- went brill for 10 mins then he got hungry!!!!

sam26oscar · 29/06/2011 06:56

sam26oscar · 29/06/2011 06:56

jupiter we have the tommee tippee sensor one, baby lies on senor pad under mattress and alarm goes off if no movement detected after 20 secs. Was a bit sceptical, but it did go off 3 times when cassie was tiny about 6 weeks old, and i couldn't be without it now..even taking it to Spain.

Even when she did her first 11.5 hr stretch last night...YAY Grin Grin can you tell i'm chuffed?? I know its a one off but even still!!!!
well, off to meetint petty and purplefan this morning Smile

Looks like a nice dat today here in North Somerset hope its sunny where you are too Smile

Cheeseandbiscuits · 29/06/2011 08:32

The sun has got his hat back on, hip hip hip hooray!

Sadly, its jab day in the cheese household.

DD still has diarrhoea, 9 times yesterday.....Poor her. Will discuss with HV today...Could it be formula?

jupiter we have the tomy digital one, its fab. How long did the diarrhoea go on for when he was teething? I'm doing Slimmingworld, its going well!
sam agree about flexibility too. We have a lovely routine but its very fluid!

Have a lovely day y'all!!
