Hi hattie,

I think a lot of it is White noise too! Isobel sleeps better in the day with people banging around. We had a small victory last night - she slept From 11.30pm to 1am in her crib. And then fed to 4 am on and off but we'll ignore that! She really does cluster feed at night,

with the puke, I think the worry is if it's projectile vomiting then you need to see a dr. Otherwise vomiting is normal, can be variable amounts I guess. Reflux could cause it too? If he's peeing and gaining weight then that's all good o guess. Izzy can vom like no bodyd business ESP over dad!
Right sorry for spelling, one hand typing!
Xx

Muser · 10/03/2011 14:00

I have a white noise app on my iphone and I think it helps my LO sleep.

Now, where are all the new arrivals? We need more mad March mums!

Hi - can I finally join this thread properly?!? Baby girl born on Tues. As expected she was on the small side - 6lb3oz - so only got home yesterday after she passed all her blood sugar tests. She's currently asleep in her Moses basket whilst I'm deciding whether to grab food or sleep to coincide...

Hope everyone is doing well. I am so in love with her that I forget how tired I am!

Quick question - anyone know how much blood in nappy is "normal" for baby girls and when it is likely to happen? First midwife visit is due today but haven't heard from them yet.

Muser · 11/03/2011 18:13

Welcome NowPanic, many congratulations on your little girl. It must be nice to be home.

We didn't have any blood in the nappy, I didn't realise that was a thing. Although I didn't change many nappies for the first 2 weeks, that was her dad's job. Grin

Hattie05 · 11/03/2011 22:09

Muser i'm amazed that you have a white noise app! is that specifically for sleeping new borns?

Now Panic i remember my girls getting blood in their nappies and it was just the one dollop - maybe teaspoon full? can't remember when i'm sure they were just a few days old though. Congratulations by the way!

Jenchandler - yes the midwife said the same - only worry if its projectile. ds getting weighed tomorrow for the first time so then i'll know for sure whether its a problem or not.

Can anyone help my pregnancy brain (think i'm still allowed that excuse) - i either didn't get or have thrown away the paperwork for registering baby. I know in the past theres always been some info about it in the pack - but is it essential? What do you need to take with you to register the baby? I'm hoping i can just track the number down and ring to make an appt. If i did need the paperwork i'm in schtuuumm!

Muser · 11/03/2011 22:25

You do get them specifically for babies, but mine is just for anyone having trouble sleeping. It has lots of restful sounds to choose from.

To register the birth you need the notification of birth that the hospital should have given you. I'm sure you could get another copy if you've lost yours.

Hi ladies, Coming over to join you as had a little girl, Charlotte Louise on Monday morning, weighing in at 6lb 2. Was 10 days early. Ended up back in hospital for 3 nights as she was not feeding and also needed antibiotics. All better but feeding still not great as only seems to feed for about 5 mins. Having the same issue as the rest of you with regards to her preferring to settle on me rather than in her moses basket at night!

Muser · 14/03/2011 13:13

Welcome niknan, hope you're all doing better now.

OP posts:
Jenchandler · 14/03/2011 13:57

Welcome niknan! Congratulations - sounds like you've had a tough first few days together. Hope things have improved now!

Hattie - we didn't need anything to register the birth except isobels nhs number.

Isobel is doing well, jaundice improving and continues to gain weight. If she's still jaundiced on Friday, shell need to see paediatrician and have blood tests - fingers crossed we won't need it. She will now sleep in her carry cot in the day but won't at night. Sigh. We're off to buy slumber bear later. Hubby goes bk to work on weds, I'm dreading it. Work haven't made it easy for us - he's working 7 late shifts in a row, then 3 days off then 3 nights...,grr!!

Hope everyone doing ok and there must be lots more new announcements soon!
Xx

Muser · 14/03/2011 14:49

Have you tried swaddling her at night Jen? We had so much trouble getting our little girl to sleep at night, but swaddling has worked a treat. We have a swaddlepod, which you just zip up so it's really easy.

Hope the jaundice turns out ok. I'm waiting on test results for jaundice, but the doctor wasn't overly concerned.

Hi ladies have only just found this thread!!

Glad i'm not the only one with a little person wanting to sleep on me at night!! Unfortunately i don't like doing it as sooo worried about smothering her with the duvet not so much me!!

Well, i am home alone now as DH deployed to Afghan this morning and sister went back to \Belgiun so really am alone!! Luckily mum and dad live in same town so am not totally alone really just feels like it at 3am!!

I think the cluster feeding at 2-4am is when your milk is replenished or something similar so the midwife in hospital told me, very normal and common for babies to feed a lot then.

Sorry to cut short but Cassie due a feed and got to bath her first!!

hope we all have good stretches of sleep tonight!!

irishqueen · 14/03/2011 19:22

Hi mummies, can I rejoin the thread. Maeve is 14 days old tomorrow and a total joy. Easy and fast labour, smashin wee feeder and sleeping between 3 and 4 hrs at night. 7 pound 2 at birth and 7 pound 6 today ya dancer! Only real issue is my boobs. Really painful for first minute of each feed! Tears to the eyes stuff and then ok for rest All advice welcome
I'm so relaxed this time round and its def rubbed off (although its DP's first and he has pfb issues)
For those struggling getting babies to sleep at night Maeve has the slumber bear that plays white noise or womb sounds and she settles herself. Settles me too lol

Sam glad you found this thread - and many congrats. Hope all ok post Caesarian and I hope you're feeling ok with husband away. My dh left today to go back to work abroad but not army so at least communication is easy and not the worry. Dh did seven months in Iraq but can't imagine how hard it must be with children as well.

Lo managed to fountain me with sh*t an hour ago - two cardigans, one nursing bra, pair of jeans, two muslins, one vest, two baby socks and one pillow case now residing in the sink soaking. Am sure sleep when she sleeps is great advice but when do you deal with all the washing / normal little chores (I've got loads of support and am v lucky for it but I still make my own toast / cereal / do washing / get dressed / have a bath etc) if not when she is sleeping?!

Not really complaining - am far to in love for a soaking in faeces to bother me! Had first midwife visit today and LO had put on 70g in 6 days which I'm thrilled by - she was v little at 6lb3oz and I was worried it would fall. Also made all the struggle with breast feeding seem worth it!

Congrats Irish sounds like she is really thriving.

Hope everyone gets a tolerable night - mine tends to cluster feed - am glad she's eating but would love more sleep!

Xx

ckny1 · 15/03/2011 02:02

Irishqueen, happy 2 week b-day to Maeve!

Sam, am glad that your family is in town though very sorry about DH having to leave...I'm already an emotional wreck w/ DH here!

NowPanic, OMG regarding your faeces fiasco! :) We've only had 1 (maybe 2) little wees that went out of control, but since we're moving flats in 3 days, can't be too bothered!

Jen, I really want to have a word with your work place! Poor hubster! :(

Our sweetie, Franz Zaven was born last Wednesday, and was in good health at 3.3 kg! The word "love" does not do our feelings for him justice. CS went fine and I was walking about that eve (though I may have overdone it since we returned home on Sunday as am feeling numb above the scar/below uterus).

I absolutely loved the co-sleeping at the hospital, but we are too afraid to try this at home, so we swaddle him then cover him from belly down with a blanket tucked under his carry cot mattress.

After a cluster feed on colostrum on the 2nd night, I experienced severe nipple cracked-ness (!!!) and was feeding/kicking/cursing simultaneously, and then needed to take a hiatus. Now am desperate to continue and he won't latch! It's got me in quite a funk and don't know which support group to contact to help me now (next home visit is Friday). Can express a bit, but not enough! :(

As you can tell from the hour that I write this, LO was recently up for a massive feed, and thought I would catch up w/ all before our internet is cut in a few days! Next wake up for a feed I'll be thinking of all of you!

spaceal · 15/03/2011 12:45

Hi. Just marking my place for now. Too tired after another sleepless night to make much sense. But good (?) to hear others are up for long hours in the dead of night. My LO is as good as gold during the day and then just won't settle when we go to bed. Feeds and feeds and feeds. Unbelievable that she can eat so much!

Hope all are doing OK -

Medee · 15/03/2011 12:57

do you have Lanisoh, CK? That is meant to help with the sore nipples.

ckny1 · 15/03/2011 16:23

Spaceal, my LO also feeds constantly through the whole night, which was part of my initial problem.

Thank you, Medee, we purchased Lansinoh on day 2, and the hospital gave me silicon guards (which I've stopped using). What I find most useful are these Tommy Tippee cooling pads which I had samples of. My DH just bought me a box and hopefully we won't need them for too long...

Community MW made a 2nd visit today, which was super-nice, to help me with latching, etc., and gave me LOADS of support. I think I can do it, but it will be a slow weaning back onto the breast! My MIL said she had to combination feed my DH b/c he also had a huge appetite! Ugh, I wanted a chubby baby, but didn't realise at what cost! :)

Hope everyone's well! Off for a nap...

Muser · 15/03/2011 18:21

Glad you got some help ck, best cure for sore cracked nipples is fixing the latch. Lansinoh helps and you can also rub breastmilk into them.

Cluster feeding is very normal and is not a sign that you don't have enough milk, it's how your baby builds the supply up. It is exhausting at the time, I have nearly given up on many occasions. But if you just go with it in the long run it'll pay off. Now I just try to make myself comfy on the sofa and catch up on DVDs while she goes for it.

Hi ladies well i expect some of you may be reading this at some god forsaken time in the night!!
i seem to be fairly lucky (fingers crossed) Cassie seems to be able to go about 3-4 hrs during night, i have started to wake her up about 4.30pm and try to keep her awake until 6.30pm (well its only my 2nd day but hey!!) when i bath both of them and then feed her and put her down.she then wakes about10.30-11pm then again 3am then it tends to go tits up and she can wake after 1.5-2 hrs then!! But its so close to morning i don't mind.
i can totally relate to the toe curling feeling when they first latch on its almost enough to put me off continuing breast feeding and why is it always worse at night???? I can tolerate it much more during the day!!
Could i ask how long your LO are actually on you feeding for??
Am a bit concerned as Cassie only on for about 15 mins occasionally 20-25 but she does gulp andseems to feed constantly for those 15 mins not few sucks here then rest. \i know she ok really as she very content when not feeding and goes quite a while between feeds but you just worry don't you Smile

have got first health visitor tomorrow, can't wait to see if all this feeding has worked!!! She had put on 4oz in a week last time which was 2oz short of her birth weight , am hoping she has gone past the 7lb mark now as it will be 10days since she was last weighed. Does anyone know the average weight gain???
well, off to truffle in the fridge...again! Am sooo hungry what a fab excuse to scoff anything you like with the excuse of breast feeding hehe!!!

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 16/03/2011 01:09

Haha Sam you caught me - although as it's only 1am I'm hoping for a better night as she has just settled after a 35 min feed and a good burp! (but she does take her time and I have to nudge her into keeping feeding or she'd pretty much always fall asleep after five minutes.) Thanks to Muser for the body rubbing tip - midwife told me about ears and toes but my LO blissfully ignores those!

Fingers crossed everyone gets some sleep.

Jenchandler · 16/03/2011 02:14

Ckny- glad mw came and helped. Hope things are improved!

Sam - you made me feel bad moaning about my hb work. Hope your doing ok. Isobel feeds for about 20min, sometimes 30min max so don't worry!

Hoping for a better night tonight, she initially went down in her carrycot from 12-0130 which is a first! Hoping it's s good sign and not a one off. Am also really constipated and have a pile left over from labour. I shouldn't moan as it's the worst thing that happened to me in the postnatal period. But it really is sore, and hurts more than contractions when I need the toilet. Moan moan.,,!

Hope everyone is getting some rest!
Xxx

Muser · 16/03/2011 17:45

Very sad news from tooimmature over on the antenatal threads. I for one am going to be hugging my girl a little closer today. We are so lucky, don't ever forget that.

OP posts:
sam26oscar · 16/03/2011 20:44

You're absolutely right Muser, i was so upset when i read it, it really does put everything else into perspective.

Jenchandler I know ALL about the constipation!! I had 2 severe bouts about a week after my section, i thought i was giving birth at one point!! sorry tmi!!
i was so scared that i would burst my scar, in fact i think i did do a little damage on the inside. I spoke to the midwife and she recommended lactulose and within 3 doses i was relieved!!

Well, Cassie has put on 9oz and has passed the 7lb mark weighing in at 7lb 1oz yay, obviously boob juice is there and she is feeding just fine Smile
She is still a little jaundiced and we are off to the hospital in the morning to have blood test, am a little scared as they mentioned liver function??

I think she's having a growth spurt today as she has been feeding every 2 hrs which is unlike her, lets hope it doesn't go on into the night can't do every 2 hrs thru night as well!!

Hope you all have good nights off to bed now can't believe am in bed and asleep by 9pm!! Makes up for all the insomnia i had throughtout the pregnancy!!!!

Larty74 · 17/03/2011 10:20

Hello everyone! I think I'm starting return to the land of the living as am able to put a few more thoughts together in one go and re-mark my place here! I cannot wait to be even near a somewhat fully-recovered state.

I hope you all are doing well. Smile
