Hiya all,

KPidgeon do you know, I always had a feeling Lara would arrive on April Fools Day, poor girl! We did briefly toy with the idea of calling her Avril for a moment, but decided it would be too strange, mainly as DH used to have a donkey called April. (weird I know)

Sleep clothes - Lara's in a long sleeve sleep suit and a fairly thick grobag. She sleeps the same way as E! Her hands are so cold on me when I feed her during the night! She is still in her moses basket though - I put her in the cot the other day but I felt too strange about it. Maybe will try again in a couple of weeks...

me Do you have a sling, you could take Ethan on the bus in that, and then if he needs a sleep, he can sleep in that on you at the group? Lara's often in the sling at playgroup if she's having a clingy day, so I can help DS1 if he needs it. DS1 was a VERY sicky baby, puking here and there up to 10 times a day, our whole house stank of baby sick for the first 5 months or so! When I started weaning him it settled down. He was a clingy baby too, always wanted to be upright - I wonder if it's a reflux thing? He was also a tummy sleeper which I felt awful about, like I'd given in or something, but seeing how well Lara sleeps on her back now showed me that DS1 really was quite uncomfortable on his back.

As for playgroup conversation, like someone else said, it's always the same questions ("How old", etc etc) - a bit like when you start uni and everyone asks where you're from, what A Levels do you have etc! I love my groups, if we're having a bad day then there's always someone who's having a good day and can give you an extra pair of hands, and we meet up in the hols now when group is off. But I remember when I first went, everyone seemed to know each other and I felt like I'd never infiltrate the little groups there. But it just happened over time, so I'd really encourage going.

cherub first tooth, wow! Ah DS used to love that teething powder...

Well generally all is ok here - lots of visitors again and I often feel very under pressure when family are here because I want everyone to think I'm doing a good job - Lara is still quite hard to get down for a nap during the day so if there are people here then I get quite anxious. She's still doing well at night though with only one night feed at around 4ish thank goodness. I still have a dream of getting them both down at the same time for a lunchtime nap, they overlap sometimes but her daytime naps rarely last longer than one sleep cycle at the moment! Hmm

Muser · 24/06/2011 21:45

My gro-bag came with a guide for what to dress them in. Basically sleepsuit + 2.5 tog bag or long sleeved vest if it's a bit warmer. We do sleepsuit and bag, don't bother with a blanket.

hippo I googled for a dribble bib pattern but basically fold over a square of fabric. The widest part needs to be about 17" long and the 2 sides 13" long-ish. I have sewn on poppers to fasten. I used metal ones but I think plastic ones would actually be better. I have personalised them with big appliqued A's and stars on the front Grin. Using some left over scraps and £3.60 of material I have made 13 bibs! I will try and post on the fb page (I am chuffed to bits with them - Arthur looks seriously cool). I

I have also made a very funky cosy toes - its red corduroy on the outside and cowboy fleece on the inside. I haven't used it yet (got a couple of bits to finish on it) but show it off at every opportunity :) My next project is a red with white stars pram liner to jazz up my boring black stroller.

RE: sleep wear, Arthur wears short-sleeved vest, long sleeve sleepsuit, swaddled in a thin cotton sheet and then a kind of fleecy and cotton blanket over the top. We are still swaddling as his arms and legs are a bit crazy in the night if left to their own devices Grin

sam26oscar · 24/06/2011 23:05

LOL petty i have this image of Arthur doing some kind of break dance move Grin I'm liking the sound of red and white star pram liner... you should sell them Wink maybe you could post some pictures when you finished?? liking the sound of the cosy toes too!! Where do you find the time?? its bad enough trying to keep up with the washing, ironing and general housework!! I can't remember the last time i actually cleaned the bathroom with something other than a dettol wipe Blush (and having a 6yr old boy believe me you need to wipe around the bottom of the toilet ALL the time!!!)
Lozario how long is one sleep cycle is it 45 mins roughly as that is what Cassie will only do if left on her own to sleep. I have noticed over the last few days though that she has slept for 2-2.5 hrs at lunchtime, usually if i move her from me or if shes in the pram she would wake but she transfered from me to bouncy chair ( didn't want to tempt fate by putting her in cot) and also slept around town for 2 hrs without waking so fingers crossed she may be starting to need that longer spell through the day?? Well, should really be in bed as am sure i'm going to be up at about 2am!! Nite for now x

Jupiter118 · 24/06/2011 23:07

Second the guide the Grobag guide that comes with Grobag think you can also find on gro website. Our room is generally around 22 digs and doesn't cool that much (new build house) so E wears pjs or sleepsuit and 1 tog bag. Just long sleeved vest if warmer than that and have 0.5 bag for really warm weather. I worry about her being too hot she seems quite content though.

On questions tho - headhugger bitin Cabriofix when do you take it out??

Mastitis sufferers hope you are feeling better!
x

Jupiter118 · 24/06/2011 23:12

petty in awe of your creativity. I am 'plop' on my sewing machine am in midst of trying to change sleeves on a top I bought in peacocks (mat leave no money) it had horrid elastic sleeves so trying to remove and re edge but my seams are sooooo wonky - any tips?

sam I love dettol wipes with DS essential - yuck!!

pettyprudence · 24/06/2011 23:26

Jupiter I hand sew everything as I can never get the tension right on a machine so no tips sorry!

Muser · 25/06/2011 08:31

Jupiter I'd take the head support out when ever you think is right. We took the wedge at the bottom out first, and have now taken it all out. My LO was just looking too squashed and uncomfy in it. And she has good neck control now so she doesn't slump in it.

hardlyshreddinghippo · 25/06/2011 10:20

Ooh ooh ooh Bethany rolled over for the first time this morning!! 14and half weeks, from tummy to back. Proud mummy Grin Grin

cherub59 · 25/06/2011 12:55

No rolling here yet but we did get our second tooth overnight... Two teeth in three days explains the misery of the last few days! Much happier boy today but just wants to chew my finger all the time!!!

Off to see newborn baby nephew today... Born at same weight as ollie so will make him look like a giant baby now!!!! Gosh an getting broody again!!!!

1Catherine1 · 25/06/2011 21:45

RE headsupport pillow - I took the original one out and put another i bought in. She doesn't need it though.

Hippo - that's great! I was slightly envious when I read that this morning but then Anya did it [back to tummy though) too albeit down from the edge of the sofa to the back cushion so gravity helped a little Wink. She's nearly there though - she can get from her back to her side easily enough when looking for booby Grin. She is still completely stuck when on her belly. Maybe i need to make booby the motivation Hmm

Cherub - just remember the sleepless nights, you can't possibly be ready for another! Shock

pettyprudence · 25/06/2011 22:31

Arthur is making absolutely no attempt to roll over but is getting very frustrated that he can't move forwards when he's doing tummy time. Hmm perhaps I should motivate him with booby too....

cherub59 · 25/06/2011 22:37

GrinI am now giggling to self at thought of mnetters lying in front of tummy time babies waggling boobs to try to get them to roll over......

1Catherine1 · 26/06/2011 15:55

Anya did it!!! Am over the moon - Anya rolled over from front to back and I caught it on camera to show Papa when he gets home Grin I just knew she was going to do it!

When did I become so easy to please? Hmm

hardlyshreddinghippo · 26/06/2011 19:06

Yay Anya! Good going. Beth hasnt done it again since yesterdays effort...

Did a car boot sale today and made myself £75.00, so pleased. Was mostly DVDs and some baby clothes. They have done both my girls and are still hardly worn but desperately need clearing out of my cupboards.

With my earnings I am going to treat DD1 to a day out at Paultons Park next week when we go camping.
May also buy myself some sewing gear as am quite getting into it all at the moment.
petty I completely stuffed up my bib, am going to attempt another tonight. Please post your pics I'd love to see what yours look like.

me23 · 26/06/2011 20:20

Just wanted to say thanks for all your suggestions and sympathy following my last post. I'm feeling a lot more positive now, I have spoken to OH about it and he has been great and is really trying to help so I can have a little break (have just had a nice bath)
We also bought a stroller from mothercare it's very lightweight bs compact so will be great on buses! I'm making it my mission to get the bus to Starbucks tomorrow and look around the shops. Will also make an effort to go to baby bounce and try to find Some more baby activities.

Re caribo, we removed the foam insert yesterday so the head hugger is still there, wish I had done it sooner tbh as lo looks so much more comfortable.

It is so hot in our house right now the thermometer is reading 29 degrees! That can't be right can it? E is just in his pjs will not be using a sleeping bG tonight if it stays this hot will just use a thin sheet, as done want E to get too hot.

Oh E slept in his cot last night for the first time, he slept well from 10pm to 6am.

Jupiter118 · 26/06/2011 20:54

me great news on cot sleeping and new buggy. Glad you are feeling better ;-)

Am being totally thick but how do you get the foam bit out and keep head support - E looks a bit head floppy in it without any of it but the foam bit making it tight. (had diff carseat for DS in case anyone wonders that I am totally bonkers (actually I am but hey)

Loving the sunshine and going to see take that tomorrow - sooo excited!

Jupiter118 · 26/06/2011 21:07

[comes back in, confirms stupidity - managed to take foam bit out. Common sense apparently not :-0]

me23 · 26/06/2011 21:27

glad you managed to do it Jupiter it can be tricky to fond where it opens. I only know fr googleing and it brought up a hilarious old mumsnet thread on the whole subject of when and how to remove the insert!

sam26oscar · 26/06/2011 21:41

Gosh we have some very clever babies Smile Cassie has done it once that was from tummy to back but she's a lazy girl i think.. just like her brother was Wink, he didn't do anything until he was 8 months old when he took off in a matter of 2 weeks, he went from lying and wriggling about to sitting, crawling and then pulling to stand in that time, i don't know about him but i was knackered for him LOL!!
we have had a wonderful day at a country park about 40 mins from us, we basically spent it under a brolly eating and drinking!! DS and niece were happy playing in the sandpit and wondering off to other areas it was a really lovely place and fairly safe for them to wonder. Cassie was so good just lying in her pram batting her toy arch!!!

Me my room is reading 28 degrees so i'd say yes!!

hardly i know the feeling about clearing out some space!! My sister gave me all her girl clothes when cassie was born and it was a lot she's a shopoholic i'm convinced!!! Now i think she just gave ot to me so it wasn't in her house Grin I tried to sell a lot of it on ebay but none of the clothes sold Shock i did however sell 6 Dr.Brown bottles and 4 little Avent for 99p i was a little peeved as it took me nearly 1.75 hrs to upload the lot Angry
Well, i'm losing the plot a bit on Scott & Bailey so best get back to it!!

Have good evenings x

P.S just lost it but saved it before and it worked yay..Go meGrin

cherub59 · 26/06/2011 22:19

27 degrees here ... Hot hot hot! Ollie sleeping under just a sheet ... Very miserable with his teething.

Ds2 spent the weekend throwing up and has temp of 39 degrees which the weather won't be helping... Spent today following me round saying "mommy mommy mommy".... Just waiting for ds1 and ds3 to get it now - that'll be fun...

Majorly stressed about organising christening and ensuing party for 30 on Sunday... What was I thinking!!!!!!!!!

Jupiter118 · 26/06/2011 22:25

me found other hilarious thread via googling and feel much less stupid now and have had a bit of a chortle!

sam26oscar · 26/06/2011 22:36

cherub oh you poor thing Sad that must be nasty, hopefully DS3 is too young to catch it. Crikey you are brave to contemplate a christening and party after, i can barely manage to do DS sandwiches for school 2moro , would rather be on here!!! hope he feels better soon and 1&3 don't get it ...and more importantly you don't Grin

Lozario · 27/06/2011 07:51

God, hot days aren't what they used to be when you have kids, are they!! DH and I spent yesterday listing the things we would have been doing... Pub hopping etc! Ah well we got the paddling pool out for DS1 and he had fun; Lara was a bit listless in the heat so expecting a hard day today too. Although DS1 only just woken up, and Lara still asleep next to me with only one wake up for a feed at ten to six! Little legend.

But she still won't take a bottle. Doesn't even try - just cries. Anyone else still having this problem? Or any tips? DS1 just took it straight away so I'm not sure what to do!

me23 · 27/06/2011 09:55

lozario Ethan really doesn't like taking a bottle we bought the meddle calma but he never took to it, then we tried tommee tipee with size 1 teats and still no success so we tried the variflow teats and he finally took some ebm, so I was able to go to the hairdresser and leave E with OH and he took over 6 oZs while I was gone.

Have you tried having your OH feed a bottle while you are out of the house apparently babies can smell their mums breastmilk from several feet away so if he knows you are nearby he's probably thinking "why do I want that horrible plastic teat in my mouth when I cam have the real deal"
