2010 - the best year of my life, for half of it I was pregnant and for the other half had my baybee. Grin

Backinthebox · 11/01/2011 08:30

Hmm, Alpy, was never my intention to kill a company. I rarely complain, but when I do - I really do!

Off to the osteo today. I am a cripple who has been having to rely on the heavily pregnant Clucky to look after me and bring me biscuits. I bent over to put my boots on on Saturday and my back went pop. Since I had two horses plaited up and scrubbed I finished off the horse show anyway :o (5th and 6th in case you were wondering!) and then hobbled off to bed, where I have been more or less ever since. except for hunting yesterday. I am my own worst enemy!

Just to add a bit more joy to my life LG is getting his first tooth and wants to feed all night to make it go away. I feed him in my sleep laid on my side, which is fine if you can roll over in bed and get into the right position. But if I'm not fast enough he wails and claws at me as though it is the end of the world.

Here's hoping the osteo fixes my back quick sharp, eh!

Cosmosis · 11/01/2011 09:00

Good advice re relatching, I think a lot of people forget to unlatch and try again. can't believe your mw said it just hurts!

We did that start in MB and end up in bed for a long time.

AlpinePony · 11/01/2011 10:03

honey I just wanted to send lots of love - because in my complete ignorance I only just found out what third degree tears are - and I wanted to say I'm so sorry and I really hope things are improving for you. x

SilverSky · 11/01/2011 12:25

Am screwed. My own fault too. MB won't take a bottle. Totally buggered.

We didn't keep it up when first tried him with it. Gutted.

Any tips or am I never going to be able to go anywhere or do anything for the next three months???

rollerbaby · 11/01/2011 12:40

Alps - thank you, that means alot. Happily my tears have healed very well and it all feels fairly ok down there. I've got a bit of leakage but I think thats common whatever your mode of delivery. I'm doing physio for next 3 months and got to record my intake of liquid and weeing for the next week. Deep joy. Although the tears were worst kind of 3rd degree before you get to the horror of 4th degree I was so lucky to have brilliant people looking after me and this has made the difference.

Box - sorry about your back - hope you get it sorted. I've had one luuging a 15lb 10 baby around and not feeding in the right position but getting better now thank god,

Silver - feel your pain... try every bottle, every temperature of milk and keep on every day. He will take eventually... we did it on saturday at every feed and eventually hunger did prevail, although we stopped after lunch as I couldnt bear the crying! NUK seems to work the best for us at the moment. Sorry I missed you last sunday. It was a major mission getting out to my mums - we have a large car thank fk as it was full to brim with pram, baby bouncer, dog crate and other paraphernalia! I think we shall have to plan a specicif meet up!

Pol - sounds like you are doing really well - particularly as you are on here! I suffered with sore nipples too and it did take a good 3 weeks for the whole bf thing to settle and stop being painful. My only tip is never forget to put lanisol on after every feed and let breast milk air dry on them too.
?
we are doing a little better each week I think. He is sleeping a longer stretch consistently but we are experimenting with the dream feed. Last night we didnt and let him go through til 1.20am but then he fed every 2ish hours at 4 and 6. so tonight we';ll go back to the 11pm feed I think. Its a bloody head fuck trying to figire out what will work.

I also need to get out more I think. feel a bit stuck in the house trying to get routine right so nights are better... today is going well but I do feel that I'm becoming a bit in a rut now. Oh well swimming tomorrow so thats good.

sw london lasses are we going to meet up again? I think we were trying to get a date...willask in other place.

CUNextTuesday · 11/01/2011 14:10

Yes we are - sorry that was me being crap. I will open my house again. See FB.

Cosmosis · 11/01/2011 16:05

keep trying silv, do it when MB totally calm, and don't do it yourself.

SilverSky · 11/01/2011 16:34

Thanks cos. I tried again this pm but didn't offer boob first just bottle and I stayed calm and relaxed et voilà!

Going to get HI to do a bottle a day. Only prob is he is not here at set times.

rollerbaby · 11/01/2011 16:36

Also works better for us when Babymoo fed in his bouncer.

He just projectile vommed his 2.30 feed! Argh. Didn't cry though... Me I mean!

SilverSky · 11/01/2011 17:26

box you is a hoss lass thru and thru ! Hardcore and committed to the core! What classes did you do?

We've just asked MIL about having MB one day a week when I go back to work. Let's just say we did not get the response we were hoping for. Eg no real excitement or desire plus the days I'd be looking at don't really work for her. Back to drawing board......

moo meet up would marvellous. Cake and frothy coffee compulsory. And gin.

CurlyCasper · 11/01/2011 18:02

i have meeting at work tomorrow that should give me a yay or nay re childcare plans. Might be joining you at that drawing board. squeaks is only 15lb at 6months. Your boy certainly must be growing well Moo!

Sorry about your back Boxy.

Glad to see Pol here. Wheres MammyFC?

cunty the surprise was all the other fruit and veg I shoved in with carrots! Must try cinnamon. Though at mo she'd rather just rub gums on the rubber spoon.

She loved the little pieces of cheese i gave her at lunchtime, mind you

must try to catch up properly on laptop later, if i don't conk out straight after she does.

CUNextTuesday · 11/01/2011 18:14

if she likes cheese curls try some broccoli and cauliflower cheese. It's a real hit here, even though I accidentally used vintage cheddar Grin - just make a cheese sauce in the usual way with butter, flour and milk.

SilverSky · 11/01/2011 20:43

You lot are scaring me wrt to weaning. I think I am going to be rubbish at it cos I can't cook.

CUNextTuesday · 11/01/2011 21:01

Annabel Karmel. No need for anything else.

rollerbaby · 11/01/2011 21:23

Curls you are right. Is no wonder I am a fucking wreck trying to keep Giant Child fed.

Weaning seems like a long way off but I guess it isn't really. Am I right to think it could be from 4 months? When did you introduce foods? I guess I'd better prepare myself as I suppose his appetite is going to be ready sooner given size.

Off to sleep now Nighty night

Backinthebox · 11/01/2011 21:58

Pol here are my top tips for co-sleeping:

  1. Dr Sears has all the best safety advice for co-sleeping.
  2. co-sleeping is the best excuse you are ever going to have for buying a humungous bed. So go shopping!
  3. Learn to BF lying on your side. It's only one step further to feeding in your sleep.
  4. Develop a steely glare and rhino skin for people who suck their teeth when they find out you co-sleep.

Happy sleeping! For everyone. We resisted it to start with when we had TT but in the end we realised that was how we were going to all get decent sleep. LG has no other bed to call his own and we all slept much better right from the start. The only thing is that song - there were 3 in the bed and the little one said... - it's true!

Moo TT had her first food when she helped herself to a bit of carrot puree from my plate when she was 5 and a half months old. I'd been planning to hold out till she was 6 months but she was interested. I did baby led weaning with her and I plan to do the same with LG. There are many ways to skin a cat, and I'm not an Annabel Karmel fan, but she's sold a lot of books and plastic tubs so people do like her.

And Silv, little horse did 'odd coloured in hand' - hats off to all those who show in hand regularly. Some stupid stallion behind us kept trying to leap on my head. Just what I didn't need with a dodgy back and a baby horse on the end of a lead rope. Racehorse did the racehorse class. Majorly stiff competition but he didn't kill the judge and we were happy with that!

Thanks for the back sympathy everyone. Have been to lovely osteo and she has done some crunch-cracking of my bones and things are feeling a bit better now. I love my osteo!

PollyPoo · 11/01/2011 22:00

Evening all. I second Annabel Karmel. Someone bought me her book when Boo was born and I thought it was a bit strange as weaning was ages away. Or not!

I am having a bad day. I picked up prescription from docs today as I have thrush and my vag is agony. Sad Haven't had it for years and I don't remember it being this bloody awful! Also having trouble with right hand side latch and think I may have thrush in nip. BB has lots of white spots in her mouth so I'm guessing tomorrow is another trip to the docs. Has anyone else had thrush in the nips? I think that is what it is - latch on is absolute fucking agony and it gradually lessens and then nip stays tender for ages afterwards. Sound familiar? Of course, it could just be down to the general crackedness and soreness - it is just not healing. I know it will all be worth it once I get this cracked. I just can't wait to get to that point.

Boxy you are hardcore. Grin Silv well done on the hossie riding. Casp good luck with the meeting tomorrow, hope it goes well.

Ok, I'm going to try and get to bed early tonight, I am crap at doing that and it is not helping. Night folks.

Backinthebox · 11/01/2011 22:07

Btw Pol LG had me wincing in agony for the first 2 weeks of BFing. I was convinced I was doing something wrong but he just had a seriously chompy latch to start with. Then one day he calmed down a bit and it all settled down from their. I just assumed all BFing was the same, but TT and LG have been completely different int how they feed. TT was definitely easier, but LG is manageable now - I don't flash my nips in public any more!

I can't guarantee your Bfing will get easier, but the chances are it will. In the meantime try and look after yourself - Moo is right about the Lansinoh.

CUNextTuesday · 11/01/2011 22:20

Moo we started on first tastes at 4.5 months but just at lunchtimes and v simple tastes, e.g. apple, pear, mash, carrot, banana, followed by a full breastfeed. Once we were sure he would have no problem making the transition we started him on one solid 'proper' meal a day at 5 months and we are now on our second day of 3 solid meals a day, with breastfeeds first thing in the morning (5am) and last thing at night (7pm) and one around 3pm. The rest are formula feeds. He is a hungry child, and big as you have seen, so I had no qualms at all. I try him with all sorts of things which I batch cook and then he has them in rotation every day Grin

Currently, and no doubt blatantly against government guidelines, he has porridge with apple and strawberry puree for brekkie, cauli & broccoli cheese with chockingly strong cheddar puree, and cumberland sausage with apple puree. The latter is far too salty and fatty but they needed using up before they went out of date and I did take the skins off Grin. Shoot me dead

Backinthebox · 11/01/2011 22:42

Pol without being too gross, are you still using pads? I have, erm, issues with most types of sanitary products and maternity pads were no different. I got some organic unbleached ordinary nighttime pads from Waitrose and that sorted things out. I also swear by tea tree oil and lavender oil, either in a bath or in a little spray bottle with some clean water.

Can't help with thrush on nipples but I know others here have successfully battled it. Are you sure it's thrush? I got White bits on my nipples but it was from being crushed by chompy baby!

SilverSky · 12/01/2011 01:42

If thrush polly send a PM to rots on fb she is the biz!!! but basically You need Daktarin gel for BB (doc may or may not be happy about it as sposed to be suitable from 4mths due to choking which is stupid as you use a Smear each time not empty the tube in their gobs). Use 4x a day. Daktarin Cream for you. Use after each feed. Don't get the two mixed up!!!!! Does work.

It is confirmed FESHs PT work here we come! Yeah baybee!!!

AlpinePony · 12/01/2011 05:39

moo I'm sorry, didn't mean to make you try! Wink HV/docs here recommend starting with weaning at 4 months (or 16 weeks, whichever you prefer). At first it was only fruit or veg puree once a day - we get jars here for 4+ months - I know they do them in the UK too because someone brought some for me. At 5.5 months I started with fruit & "petit filou" in the morning and in the afternoon a jar of meat/fish based puree which is a bit chunkier. I also give him a baby biscuit to smear over himself/the chair/me, squeeze under my bra straps and ultimately get stolen by the dog. Hmm I tried him with porridge and he told me he wanted to be adopted, so am going to try cunty's recommendation and add fruit.

I considered making my own dishes for him but i) I'm working full-time and ii) I can't be arsed. Within the next 8 weeks or so I expect him to be able to start sharing a bit of our stuff, e.g., bolognese before the salt, puree, bisto type stuff is added. :)

He will not tolerate cauliflower though - he actually audibly said "bleeurrrgh" when I tried! Grin

Congrats silv - that's great news! Tbh I think most employers expect it and I'm sure it'd already been discussed behind closed doors.

AlpinePony · 12/01/2011 05:41

pol Yes, we all got thrush on our nips I think. carrots knows an awful lot about it but in her absence I think cossie might be your girl.

OP posts:
AlpinePony · 12/01/2011 05:41

Actually I seem to remember silv having problems too. :(

OP posts:
SilverSky · 12/01/2011 08:06

Yup, see earlier post!

Am so happy about going back PT and I'd rather struggle a bit money wise and spend time with MB whilst I can before he goes off to school rather than work full time and pay a nursery to have all the fun with him!

Will check out this Annabel chick re weaning.

This morning we have had a front explosion on the poo front. Quite an achievement and then whilst sorting him out as he had to be bathed he got the placeshe hadn't already covered covered. Think he was quite proud. Think had something to do with the veg stir fry for dinner last night which had curly kale aka cabbage!!! You've been warned!!!

MB is finding his voice. Screams in particular.

MB also is waking around 3 each morning no reason so the White noise goes on and sends him back to his zzzzzzz's. However around 6ish he wakes and then spends all his efforts grunting and trying to escape his swaddle. Usually gets one arm out before screaming blue murder for his brekkie, which this morning (my boobs were abou to burst) he took his gob off mid suck cue milk shower for everyone in the vicinity!!!

Bloody hell marathon update.
