Nope, never had thrush in my life.

silv re weaning, nhs guideline is around 6 months, or meeting following criteria:
sitting up unaided, pincer grip, and loss of tongue thrust (the action that pushes solids back out of mouth). I'm guessing that you wait till they have the first two and try them with food to see if third has gone.

Plenty of people wean at 4ish months stll as per prev guidelines which were 4-6 months (they changed to 6 months about 7 years ago iirc) but itcan be linked to allergies, ibs etc, so if you have any in your family it might be best to wait.

I'm planning on blw as cant be arsed to puree so will be waiting, also I have eczema & asthma & hayfever.

SilverSky · 12/01/2011 08:57

cos we'll wait too as we have similair ishoos as you and if waiting reduces the chances of MB having the same problemos then it's worth it.

Cosmosis · 12/01/2011 09:05

besides, surely feeding actual food is harder work than just hoiking up top, no?

CUNextTuesday · 12/01/2011 09:42

Oh but it's great face-time for the two of you and you can have lots of giggles. Plus daddy can do it and make a huge mess.

Backinthebox · 12/01/2011 09:44

Cosyou have it spot on there. I find stuffing baby up the tshirt dead easy, but was reduced to a blithering wreck by weaning. Whether you do Blw or purees you still have to figure out how to feed a whole new person. BLW worked better for me because I just put less salt in everything (oxos are the worst for secret salt) and then gave TT lumps of it. She was far more adventurous as a baby than she is now. But what can you expect when you have a father who goes ' urgh, cauliflower - poison!' TT seems to mainly subsist now on cheese strings and salami sandwiches cut into animal shapes. I fear for her future palate. Hmm

Check out the BLW forum though, they have good ideas for food for babies and toddlers.

AlpinePony · 12/01/2011 10:03

cossie I didn't mean that you were riddled with thrush Blush - just that you know an awful lot about the boobs these days! Wink

cunty Yep, get these men in on the act too!

Lol, I am a pox ridden hag, that's what you meant innit? come on, fess up!!

Cosmosis · 12/01/2011 10:58

Speaking of weaning anyway, what highchairs have you all bought? want one that can pull up to the table as well as be used on its own. Thanks heaven for laminate flooring when thinking of weaning!

AlpinePony · 12/01/2011 10:59

No cossie, 'tis I who is riddled. Took the dogs in for their annual jags end Dec, everything fine - declined flea & tick stuff as they've never had fleas, in all 10 years of big dog's life. Monday night I noticed swollen vulva on little dog - and upon closer inspection a flea - which I thought was a dog flea (so don't bite people). Fucking contrary dog. Dragged dog back to vet last night - jb said he was scared the vet was going to say "what did you do to this dog's vagina?"! Grin Apparently her "vagina is too small" - for what I hear you ask? Fucking mutts. And Bear got bitten on the face this morning by a rogue flea so I guess they're cat fleas and not dog fleas. Ugh. Ugh and thrice ugh. Fucking awesome timing what with the dogs supposed to be going in to kennels on saturday. Who loves their animals?

OP posts:
Cosmosis · 12/01/2011 11:02

lovely. Gotta love a dose of the fleas. Itchy ankles always a give away, but now we get him injected so no more fleas.

Backinthebox · 12/01/2011 11:08

Alpy how exactly have they decided her vagina is too small? Confused

The ONLY high chair to use is the Ikea Antilop. Especially if you are blwing. No crevices to get food stuck in.

OkieCokie · 12/01/2011 12:41

Surely the change in poo (foody poos bleurgh!) is enough to delay anyone with the weaning! We have been asked to take part in this which would involve introducing small quantities of known allergens (like milk, egg, wheat, fish, nuts) at 3 months. I am still undecided on this as I don't really want to offer anything this early but I know we can only learn more on food intolerance/allergy and links with ezcema, hayfever and asthma if more research is done.

I started BLW with mini Oke and gave up. I found the Gina Ford book on weaning very good for timings and what food to introduce when and how to fit this in around breast feeds and the annabel karmel book good for food ideas. I did read the BLW book from cover to cover but in practice it just didn't work for me.

  1. I have an Ikea ANTILOP - very good for early days of weaning.
  2. Stokke Tripp Trapp - I love it more than any other baby purchase and still in use daily - I will be buying another for Peppa.
  3. a Phil and Teds Mee Too - good for holidays and out and about
OkieCokie · 12/01/2011 12:50

Pols sorry to hear of the sore nips. If it is thrush you need to persevere with the treatment. Peppa still has it in her gob but my nips seem to be fine so I am a bit useless and applying the nip cream which means she still have thrush issue . There is also Nystatin drops which you could get prescribed which in our case don't make Peppa gag as much as ramming my finger in her gob to get the daktarin gel in.

I did get pain behind nip during and after feeding but this has gone now.

Had appointment about my arse this morning and it is official I have damaged my coccyx during childbirth. Hence I am still unable to sit on hard surfaces for very long and have pain when going from sitting to standing. Looks like I just have to sit it out as there is nowt than can be done which is a massive PITA (ba bum...!). I have drucks for the pain but it could be like this for 6 months ffs!

CUNextTuesday · 12/01/2011 13:17

Acsherly, I almost prefer foody-poos, cos although they smell bad (I breathe through my mouth - but I'm not a mouth-breather before anyone labels me), they are generally contained in one place rather than being, say, all up his back and down his legs Grin

CluckyKate · 12/01/2011 14:35

KNow what you mean about the poos Cunty but dont you worry that breathing through your mouth will mean you can taste it Confused Wink

BAH! flexi work fail Sad

They actually accepted two bits of my proposal, but not the key part. So from now I shall mostly be online looking for a new solution.

SilverSky · 12/01/2011 17:29

Ah that's shite.

AlpinePony · 12/01/2011 17:47

Oh curly, that's a bit shit - I hope you can work something out!

We now have Two TEEF! Grin He keeps touching his teef with his tongue as if trying to work out what the fuck is going on! Wink

I'm with cunty on the poos, I'd much rather deal with poo than mango puree.

Boy mummys - have your little boys found their winkies yet? Bear has discovered his bits and grabs them with glee at nappy changing & bath time! Grin

boxer Too small to be examined with a speculum and she even cried when he stuck a cotton wool bud up it. He says she's particularly small. I think this has something to do with the fact she's never been gang-raped in the park like big dog has. Wink Anyway, test results came back and nothing was found - not even bacteria which is quite unusual! However, I think the culprit are the fleas - she's nearly 5 years old and has never had a flea bite, so I think it's just an immune system response.

Anyway, we de-flead the dogs & house and went out for a couple of hours and it hit me like a brick that he still doesn't feel like mine and I'm still waiting for someone to take him away. I was wondering if this is a common feeling or maybe this is the result of not having a vaginal birth? Confused I'm probably reading too much in to it.

olie Blimey - how did you manage that?

OP posts:
SilverSky · 12/01/2011 19:07

pitponio ditto here! ESP as everyone says how much MB looks like a not so Little SilverSky aka HI. I think having cs you don't have that sense of belonging/ownership that a Vb does. Vb being vag del and not Vikki Beckham!! This is purely my own thoughts.

SilverSky · 12/01/2011 19:08

MB was weighed today and he is just shy of 15lbs. No wonder my bloody back aches!!!!

CUNextTuesday · 12/01/2011 20:23

I dunno, it's only very recently that I've realised Rastus is my own - for a long time I felt like the babysitter.

CluckyKate · 12/01/2011 20:31

Not sure on the VB vs. CS view on the feeling of "I'm not worthy" - is most likely an individual thing so different for everyone.
Just to add my thoughts.....I often wonder how I got to be so lucky to have been gifted this wonderful little person. The maternal paranoia sometimes strikes and I get a very vivid and real sense that I might one day lose her, to what I have no idea. Think it is more that I feel I don't deserve her rather than that she doesn't belong to me.

'tis only what I think though so feel free to disagree Smile

rollerbaby · 12/01/2011 21:08

Silver, nope I still can't believe that babymoo actually was ever in my body even though he came out of it in quite a dramatic fashion - so I think that sense of unreality is true whatever...

I also feel your pain on back isshoos. I have no idea how I am going to manage when he gets heavier. I rock him to sleep alot so this cannot continue.

Managed to get him to take roughly 80ml of formula at bedtime today in 2 sessions. He still bloody woke up hungry an hour later though. this is the most he's taken from the bottle ever - although most of it went down his chin - is this common? His bib and clothes were soaked. Not exactly efficient. Still at least he is taking something from a bottle. We're definitely improving although I think he finds it a bit fast flowing... no other bottles work though so will keep going with this one. PResumably he will just get better at coping with the flow?

Swimming was ace today. HE was much more relaxed and the teacher took them under very quickly. He squeaked and looked very surprised but then was fine. Whatta boy! Bloody knackering day though getting him ready and trying to make sure he eats exactly 1 hour before (which of course he didn't) plus has enough sleep not to meltdown in lesson... We both conked out when we got back.

It's the big NCT talk tomorrow at the teachers house. Looks like I'll be on my own now as the other girl is ill. Feel quite nervous about it actually...

Right off to bed, knackered.
