2010 - the best year of my life, for half of it I was pregnant and for the other half had my baybee. Grin

Pol, re co-sleeping, Artie slept in his sleeping bag on top of duvet, or without his sleeping bag under duvet, but duvet only coming to his waist. I am aware this is Wrong.

You see Rastus has the full 8oz (210mls) at 10.30/11 after a full 6-8oz at 7pm (and that after protein-based dinner at 5.15)and then is still awake around 3 for some more. He's on two solid meals a day too, breakfast is followed by bottle or breast, so he's not lacking. It's a routine thing, so I just wondered whether I should be cracking it by now to try and get rid of the 3am angst. I think he'll be in his own room by this time next week.

alps re porridge. Mix with fruit. I was given a special baby blender/steamer so I make up fruit purees - favourites are mango, strawberry and apple, banana, papaya or a combination of a couple of those together. I use wholegrain porridge as well so he's getting some roughage.

CUNextTuesday · 10/01/2011 09:48

fuck me that sounds pretentious

AlpinePony · 10/01/2011 09:52

That's a good idea. He gets fruit & fromage frais at ~9am and then meat/fish & veg at ~3. He is not a fan of mango. I thought strawberries were on the "no" list due to allergy risks? I wouldn't say I'm allergic but I do seem to get spots having eaten them. Confused

I've been using baby breakfasts from a pack. Porridge went down ok - and I would mix fruit. The Heinz fruit and yoghurt one went down a treat. She's less keen on the current Heinz oats and apple breakfast. Mind you, she's also refused my latest carrot surprise the past few nights. (I thought it was delish).

She hasn't had teeth through, but seems to have a sore inner bottom lip. Any ideas why it might be blistered/ulcered? I haven't given anything hot Hmm

CUNextTuesday · 10/01/2011 10:19

Has she been ill gasper? Perhaps a bit of a depressed immune system? What's your surprise in carrot surprise? I put cinnamon in and it went down well.

alps I have no time for allergies, they can fuck off. Rastus can't eat mango as a fruit by itself but mixed with anything (e.g. his dinners have been chicken and rice with mango - yeah yeah ok I bought one and it went a long way Grin) and it goes down a treat.

SomethingSuitablyWitty · 10/01/2011 10:29

I am also admiring of silv getting out for a ride. I can't really remember what exercise is. With the exception of one hike with boyfy and baby over the hols, I have done nada...

Well, my earlier optimisim proved unfounded: missy has reverted to screaming when I try to feed her again. It is so awful. I feel like I'm torturing by trying to force something truly vile down her throat. That's bad enough, but it's also hard not to take it a bit personally. I know I mustn't, but I sometimes do. Anyway, the midwife said if things hadn't resolved by Monday to call her back and they haven't, so I guess I will.

THanks for the kudos on the swaddle curls but I came very close to putting her back into it last night, after an hour of rocking the quinny and singing to her. I then did an emergency transfer to the cradle (she hasn't really used it yet but it is waaay easier to rock) and she seemed to get the hang of sucking her fingers and finally went down.I can't figure out if the sleeping bag is keeping her warm enough or not. Her hands are icy but the rest of her seems fairly toasty. Do people put an extra cardigan or anything on to compensate for lack of sleeves?

CUNextTuesday · 10/01/2011 11:03

swits I put scratch mitts on Rastus in the early days to keep his hands warm. He has no truck with them now of course

AlpinePony · 10/01/2011 11:13

switty Bear's 0-3 months sleepsuits had in-built mitts which we used. Since then the sleepsuits haven't had them and we did use scratch mitts a couple of times but he seemed to find them frustrating as he wanted to get at his fingers to suck/scratch his face up with. By around 4.5 months he was no longer getting cold hands at night so I don't worry about it anymore. But as you say, the rest of his body was fine - just the cold hands. Curly and I also found that if we put gloves, they were going in the mouth and then the hands were cold and wet. What can you do?

OP posts:
Cosmosis · 10/01/2011 11:41

i just ignored cold hands, as long as his body was warm.

I've lost a pack of 33 Fairy washing tabs somewhere in this house, and I have a stack of pooey baby clothes to wash

OkieCokie · 10/01/2011 14:44

Cunts I didn;t drop 10.30pm feed until oke was on 3 soild meals a day. I then brought it forward gradually and reduced amount I was giving. Eventually he was taking longer to wake up, only taking 1oz and then taking ages to get back off to sleep so I just dropped it. No sure if that helps but he was on 3 meals during day for sure.

OkieCokie · 10/01/2011 14:44

cunts he was 7 months old

PollyPoo · 10/01/2011 16:12

Hello all. Thanks for the info on co-sleeping all. We've made it through the last few nights starting off in the moses basket and usually ending up with her in bed with me sometime around 3.

We've had a nightmare with painful feeding and bleeding/cracked nips, despite mw telling me that latch was fine. I was really low yesterday and spent the evening with my tits out with loads of lansinoh on (even though it brings BB up in a rash) in an effort to heal them. Felt really crap and tearful, like I'd failed somehow (gave up after a month with Boo so felt it was all going pear shaped again). TG and I started snapping at each other and it was pretty rubbish. Then I spent some time with Dr Google and found some ace pics of perfect latch and found I had been doing it wrong after all. Didn't help that my midwife had told me 'I think people who say BF doesn't hurt are lying, or have forgotten what it is like in the beginning because I found it agony with all three of my children'. Hmm Made me feel I was making a fuss and should have just continued as we were but thank god I didn't as BB was bringing up loads of bloody vom which was starting to freak me out. It seems babies can digest milk but store up the blood until there is enough to make it look like you have slaughtered a pig in your bed. Still, I'm so glad we sorted the latch as she fed pretty much continuously last night from 2am - 9am. Seems she is having her first growth spurt and just in time for her first weigh in! The midwife came today for the day 5 weigh and heel prick test. Instead of losing weight as expected, BB has managed to put on 2 ounces so I was well chuffed!

Midwife was talking to me about contraception.... HAH. Having nips like bits of minced beef and a baybee in your bed, not to mention husband in spare room, is about all the contraception we'll be needing for a while. Grin

CUNextTuesday · 10/01/2011 16:15

I also found that calling Hom all the names under the sun with some quite personal insult thrown in (Blush) worked well as contraception for a while. However, those who have absorbed my posts on Hom will understand when I say you can't keep a good man down, for long. He simply grew a thicker skin...

CUNextTuesday · 10/01/2011 16:16

erk, not for contraceptive purposes I hasten to add. Although that maaaaaaaaay work

CUNextTuesday · 10/01/2011 16:21

And when I say 'good man' what I mean is 'desperate man'

Poll My midwife said to count to 10 slowly after latching, if it still hurts then relatch. I can't believe your midwife said that, how ridiculous.

PollyPoo · 10/01/2011 22:35

That is good advice thanks Boo, just used it with latest feed. Smile

PrincessBoo · 10/01/2011 22:37

Most welcome Poll my midwife was really ace :o Glad it worked.

She also said offer both breasts at each feed, and start the next feed off with the one you finished with - she said it helps to keep mastitis at bay.

PrincessBoo · 10/01/2011 22:38

which it did :)

CluckyKate · 10/01/2011 22:40

Yep Alps - actually an apology would've sufficed with some recognition that their service was lacking and needed improvement but hey ho....what goes around comes around.

Good to hear you've sorted the latch Pol - makes such a difference, no?!

Cunty - try the fridge.....is my automatic storage location for all manner of stuff.

SilverSky · 10/01/2011 23:01

polecat yup all about the latch. You are mega for perservering ESP when it hurts so bad. Have been there crying and sobbing whilst MB fed his chubby fat face.

Well the bloody cats fighting on the landing woke MB up and its taken HI 30mins to soothe him. He wanted to feed him but it's not hunger why he woke so no feed. . HI wanted my help reswaddling and comforting MB. I told him to stop being so needy and what would he do if I wasn't here? Blinking handholding all the time. Not sure if pathetic or plain lazy???
