My dh's car had a flat battery today too

And his car was parked in front of mine on the driveway so he couldn't take my car to work.

And we're not in the AA...

Luckily he has a friend who owns a garage.

CakeandRoses · 17/01/2011 09:19

Does that mean you'll get a bonus day of dp help dh or has he gone now?

Another pondering I had last night was about different 'methods' of parenting within extended families and the tension it can cause.

We're pretty strict with F in terms of manners, not giving him sweets, fizzy drinks/squash, going to bed on time and not watching much tv. One of my sils is the total opposite with her two, their DCs (6 and 13) stay up watching tv and go to bed when they fancy, eat and drink sweets and coke to their hearts content (and have done since 2yo. The older one now has terrible teeth) etc. Poor mil struggles to get it right when she's looking after her grandchildren. And of course we're all fiercely judging each other!

Do you guys have anything similar in your extended family?

How's things there tsc? How was your inaugural night out sans frankles?

DesperateHousewife20 · 17/01/2011 10:32

lol at spooky battery coincedence!

cakes no he called work (as its a company van) and they sent out a break down truck (who got here remarkably quick) and they jump started the van.

Ive got a baby group to go to later so he'd only be lonely!

wonderstuff · 17/01/2011 11:26

Dylan has started shivering from time to time, he has no temp and isn't cold - otherwise seems well - anyone else's babes do this? Can't decide whether to worry or not.

WinterChillita · 17/01/2011 12:09

woodlands we had a jumperoo for L and she liked it for a while but it was sooooo big we got rid of it. We now have a bigger living/dining room so it could have lived quite happily here and sometimes I wish we'd kept it but they are huge aren't they!?! L only used it for about a month too so not really worth it for her.
I've been told that both children look just like me - lucky them Grin I can see DH in L but not in S yet, they've both got my brown eyes so that kind of dominates at the moment, babies are all eyes aren't they!
cakes we don't have any pics of just the two of us. In fact most pics are of one or the other of us, very rarely do both of us get the wrong side of a camera at the right time. I'm not bothered though, children are who we are for the time being.
wonder if D's alright other than shivering he's most likely fine. There would be other signs if he was ill.
mlic great night's sleep! brilliant, long may it last though i suspect it- -wont if sams anything to go by
And finally, dragged DH to a toddler group today just to get him out of the house only to bump into the boss's wife Blush hopefully he looked suitably ill otherwise there could be trouble!

hey cake there's drastically different parenting styles in our family as my thinks she's bloody perfect sil breastfed my niece til she was 2 and looks down on me for only managing 2 weeks even tho Dreya was tongue tied and wouldnt latch properly!
Altho they give my niece cherry coke which i passed comment on the amount of sugar and caffeine and was then astounded to see my sil's mum say she had saved half a bottle of lucozade for Lily - she's 2 years old for fuck sake and you're giving her glucose drink!!!! side order of diabetes anyone!!

I will be parenting Dreya gastapo style with no fizzy drinks or caffeine and sweets very rarely.

Glad to hear you sounding a bit more upbeat TSC

Stac2011 · 17/01/2011 15:52

cakes i can foresee crap from my mil as R gets older, it was bad enough she fed my not weaned daughter a yoghurt but i can see her just allowing her to do what she wants. Tbh just means she wont get to babysit.

tsc sounds like dp has listened. Was it strange being out without frankie?

nixster lucozade for a 2yo, you'd have to scrape her from the ceiling and she has the cheek to look down her nose at you

Great news bout the creche place mlic. The crafts course sounds good too. Fab night for you, long may it last.

Lol winter thats the sort of thing that would happen to us, hope alls ok with dh's boss

Ds went away today with school. He had a bit of a wobble just before getting on the bus but he was fine. I didn't cry but i am missing him already as he's never been away from me that long. It was strange seeing the kids he started p1 with all looking so grown up.

Get my laptop back tonight yay. Hows everyone today? R had a shit night and has had 2 10min naps, she's just fell over again.

Ooh very nice mlic! did it have lumps and all? go william! really hope the sleep keeps going the way it is too!
Tsc glad you enjoyed yourself! Dp and i are going to your neck of the woods on saturday! just a day trip over to the united match. Pity we're not staying the weekend and we could have done a mini meet up!!
wrt to different parenting, my cousin has a 3 year old who is absolutely spoilt red rotten and is never reprimanded for things and so has turned out to be a cheeky bold lottle thing
she's allowed anything she wants while her mother sits on the laptop all day. She actually punched ellie on the top of yhe head when she was a few weeks old and never got given out to over it Hmm.
Heading yo the gym now so will be back later

DesperateHousewife20 · 17/01/2011 19:01

tsc thats exactly how much my friend's baby weighed! He really was so diddy.

I gave Dylan a bit of steak yesterday, he sucked it like theres no tomorrow, he loved it!

pleased things sounds like they're getting back on track and that you didn't end up face down in a kebab after all Grin

sounds as tho you and your sisters cover every parenting style between you! What does your mother do when she looks after your children - her own thing?

The cornetto under the table example is exactly the kind of thing I'm dreading in future when our families get together. Thankfully it's not too often. it was bad enough at the weekend - i saw sil do a proper Hmm face when i asked F to put down his toys and sit up to eat his dinner.

mlic perhaps W is only gonna eat italian - or maybe just red meat Grin. none of this milk and slops business for him!

i'm just starting to plan A's new room ready for her to move into in the next few weeks. Am very excited about it. So far am planning to paint her fireplace white (it's not used), that wall peppermint and then will handpaint on some white polkadots, i've bought some rose fairylights and some really pretty bunting. I'll probably leave the other walls white (as they are at the mo). It has wooden floorboards so will probably just buy a pretty rug.

memphis83 · 17/01/2011 21:00

mlic love that W is eating more and sleeping better, think i will still not bother with red meat i cant stand the smell of it cooking and rarely cook it for dh!!
tsc you seem a lot more positive! that baby sounds tiny, i saw one today in costa coffee and it looked tiny it was 8 pound, shows how much i can remember of how small L was!! poor kid was wearing clothes that looked so grubbly and old and grey and she looked a bit grubby herself poor little thing.
cakes L has my chin and eyes apparently, and his dads nose both of our noses are pretty big but dh's is a bit roman, used to get called jewboy at school and when L yawns or cries his nose hooks down a bit!! my sil is a hairdresser and says L has a triple crown so his hair will always stick up (like his dad). on subject of family, my mil always puts L in front of the tv and his nan always says i cant wait to buy him choc buttons, i have said he wont eat chocolate until he is 2, i want a good diet in him before people start feeding him crappy sugary foods!

CakeandRoses · 17/01/2011 22:40

Nothing wrong with a roman nose on a man memphis! Quite sexy I reckon! Just watched a film with adrien brody who's all about the nose, he's not my cuppa but he def has a fan club :-)

Think its a good idea to tell family clear guidelines like that as they're less likely to be 'misinterpreted'. We did similar and I think it stopped any aggro over family giving F something we wouldn't be happy with.

Stac2011 · 18/01/2011 03:06

on the subject of sweets has anyone been told to take lo to the dentist? Even if they don't have teeth? I was getting R weighed last week and there was a dental nurse into see new mums and telling us to take kids at 6mths i was waiting for a bit as i took jack young and was told to come back when we was 1. Different guidelines now i suppose

WinterChillita · 18/01/2011 07:42

stac I was told with L to take them once they get their first couple of teeth. Can't see what they'd get out of seeing a 6 month old. Maybe she was just trying to get people to remember to take their child to the dentist
memphis my grandad always buys L marshmallows/starbursts/milk bottles etc, I just don't give them to her but it's funny when he turns up with a huge bag of sweets 'for the little one'. Mind you, he did spoon feed my older brother ribena at 6 weeks old, my mum was livid (still is I think Grin )
cake I'd love to decorate rooms, I'm always jealous of people who can paint their walls! Peppermint and white is a lovely fresh combo.
mlic hope your night was a good one :)
Up every 2 hours again last night, he gave me one night last week when he slept for 6 hours then a feed and 3 hours but that's one night and hasn't done it since. I'm going to try and get some more food in him today cos every feed was a semi-decent one.

chulita why can't you paint your walls?

Did you regret that pizza, btw?

Crap night casa cake. Found out it was onion that gave aurelia terrible wind last week (when I thought I must jhave had a dairy hot choc in error) as I had onion again last night and then was up with her half the night whilst she trumped for england.

mlic w def sounds like he's getting there

Just had to drop F to nursery myself as dh took early flight to glasgow for work (away tonight too - gah!) So I went looking like a scarecrow as tryimg to groom two children and me in a short space of time is beyond me.

Nappy calls. Back soon!

cakes i had a lovely knitted advent calender made for L little deep red stockings and mil tried telling me at 1 next year he will have a chocolate advent calender it turned into no he wont yes he will, i end it with whos his mother? if you buy one i will bin it!! i have my ideads and im sticking to them, really wanted L to just have water to a year but he wont even sip it once, so i put a spoon of puree in his water, still doesnt like it though!! my dh was away last night and tonight i hate it, dont know when i will get a bath in!!
the room sounds lovely. ive just decorated with a couple of canvas and bunting, ours is rented but his room is meters squared and dont fancy painting back when we move in a year!oh and i know there is nothing wrong with a roman nose just glad he was a boy!! its only when he is tired, upset or frustrated, have warned dh though that if at 21 he wants to use his savings on a nose job and not a motorbike he can!!
stac i got told to take him with me when i go so he gets used to smells and noises but not taken him yet as im in such pain i dont want his 1st memory of me shouting and crying as i get poked!! Grin
