Oh, and the strategy for treats in this house is that we're healthy all day then have 'Tasty Time' in the evening (before teeth brushing).

Tasty Time means you get to have one small piece of delicious, like a posh chocolate or a glass of wine. Other temptations during the day are easier to ignore, if you focus on the fact that you can have something really nice in the evening. Grin

Calories aren't too bad as ultimately you're only having something small, and teeth are ok as you brush them a short while afterwards. :)

SpiraelingSnowflakes · 21/12/2010 12:23

Loads of cross-posting. Confused

There are already 'interesting wind effects' here, Cake. Grin I've rarely had to wind M, even as a newborn. She swallows it all down and gives us a regular brass band serenade! Which she, naturally, finds highly amusing!

Leading to the unfortunate nickname of Windy Mindy... Better stop that before nursery!

DesperateHousewifeIsXmasCrazy · 21/12/2010 12:26

spirael I wish I had your discipline, Ive just had 2 biscuits and a packet of crisps Xmas Blush

Im planning on weaning this weekend/next week when DP is here to see how it goes, we're both quite excited to see what D thinks of diff foods. He loves to put everything in his mouth and think hes a bit disappointed that he cant eat his toys.

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 21/12/2010 12:39

See we're part-time veggies Grin (I'm an ex-veggie who does eat meat now on rare occassions but chooses the veggie option most of the time if out and dh will only eat chicken, nothing else, and only on occassion - it's a blue moon when we eat meat in the house) but we were both of the opinion it is up to the DCs what they want to do when they're old enough to decide. I therefore buy mince etc. (yuk) and batch up a bolognaise or whatever for the freezer. I will obviously do this for ds2 too.

If you've decided to bring Mindy up as a vegetarian, it is important she gets a varied, balanced diet from now on. I don't wish to teach granny to suck eggs but if she's on 3 meals+ a day she is classed as 'fully weaned' and as such needs protein etc in her diet, I would suggest in at least one meal a day. I always try to make sure ds1 has protein in his tea if he hasn't had any in his lunch. I'm not at that stage with ds2 yet as he's only on 1 to 2 small meals a day so it tends to be porridge for breakfast (if anything) and some veg at tea time.

W is pretty good with his hand to outh co-ordination, I might try giving him a floret of broccoli at tea time and see what he makes of it :)

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 21/12/2010 12:40

hand to mouth, of course....

Forgot to mention W is napping in his cot in his brother's room for the first time. So far so good!

SpiraelingSnowflakes · 21/12/2010 12:51

Protein... Cheese! Grin Is cheese ok now? [runs cackling into the kitchen to fetch Mindy her super-special very first piece of cheese] ... I might be a bit cheese obsessed. Blush

More seriously, she will get some meat/fish (when old enough). Probably about once per week or so? :) She gets a protein breakfast each day, but I'll give it a go with a protein option for lunch too, thanks!

Lentils, beans and pulses are ok to give now, I'm assuming?

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 21/12/2010 12:58

What does she have for breakfast, out of interest?

SpiraelingSnowflakes · 21/12/2010 13:30

Fruit yoghurt, baby ones without refined sugar in.

CrimboCakeandRoses · 21/12/2010 14:22

Help please - quickly! :-)

Can anyone think where (chain stores obv) would sell a plaque, sign, mug etc saying 'best cook' or similar?

Want to get one for the Nursery cook this afternoon if poss.

mlic congrats on w napping in e's room! He's becoming a different baby!

Remind me to tell you my philosophy on children being veggie at some point (not soap-boxing just a different viewpoint as I was brought up veggie from birth)

But must dash to shops now!

CrimboCakeandRoses · 21/12/2010 14:35

oh and spirael

i think 'they' say go easy on cheese to begin with as it's loaded with salt

SpiraelingSnowflakes · 21/12/2010 14:36

Clintons, maybe? Or whatever card shops you have nearby. Good luck, Cake!

memphis83 · 21/12/2010 15:40

vik my dad caught his hand up in machinary and it mangled it up inc his mincing his wedding ring into his hand!! and reason for mil not liking me before was 1) me not wanting him to have dh's surname (i gave in in the end on that one) and when i came out of hospital after losing an ectopic twin and having keyhole surgery i said IM never doing this again, apparently it isnt just my decision...er yes it is love, i said I and ME as there is nothing stopping dh having more kids i even told her while pregnant if she wanted dh to have more kids tell him to leave me, apperently she is starting to like me now and prefers me to his coke snorting cheating ex, hmm cheers Grin
spirael L doesnt turn his nose at anything either, loves cauliflower, sweet potato and parsnip and mango you cant get in quick enough! not a big lover of banana but he still eats it!
mlic i agree about chocolate im so strict already with L if he doesnt eat all his veg he doesnt get his fruit!! Blush i said about L having an advent calender and mil said next year he can have a choc one i said er no he wont!! Hmm

kkfairybrains · 21/12/2010 15:49

don't really know about the cheese spireal. how would you give her the cheese just out of interest? E is on 3 meals a day too and wolfs them down and her 8 oz bottles. haven't yet tried her with any meat but im going to get dp's mum to leave her a small bit of everything, without salt and seasoning, from christmas dinner including turkey and i'll puree it up for her! not sure what the guidelines are about chocolate either! i'm definately in no rush to give her chocolate anyway! she'll be begging for it soon enough so until then she'll be ok without it!
is everyone else getting the mama dada baba thing? Ellie just sits all day shouting all them 'words'! not that i thing she knows what they mean but its funny all the same! not so funny at 5:45 this morn when thats what woke me up coming from her room! i went in then to put the dummy in her mouth so she'd go back asleep and she was full of smiles and excitement. i went back to bed and then as soon as i got into it...'dadadadadadadadadabababarararara' and so on.Confused.
still no water here and doesnt look like we'll get it back anytime soon Sad

MyLifeIsFeelingFestive · 21/12/2010 20:10

cake don't get me wrong, if I / we were vegetarians, I would ensure that the DCs are too - but we're not so it's hypocritical for me to not give them meat iyswim. And because I want him to eat meat, I want him to have enough variation, often enough for him to not refuse it (like you say, babies and toddlers are definitely different species. In fact my toddler from one day to the next will change his mind about what he will and won't eat). I love vegetables of all shapes and sizes, but I'm not keen on beans and pulses, am fussy with lentils and positively detest nuts. So I'd struggle to cook balanced meals - ok to do to myself, but not to ds1. I already feel guilty about the fact he has a lot of vegetarian meals (because it's easier) but that those meals don't have protein in them. So I compensate with stews / bolognaise / fishcakes etc.

kk I'm going to ask my mam to get the blender out and do the same for Christmas dineer - it feels nice we'll all be eating the same thing! And yes, the last few days have seen lots of mmmmmmmmmmaa, mmmmmmmmmmaa, mmmmmmmmmmaa. Very cute. And of course I keep telling dh he's saying 'mama' Wink

I didn't have a productive afternoon. Couldn't find any presents for dh, had to carry ds2 for most of the time as he was constantly crying in the buggy (miraculously, smiling once picked up though Angry and got home late so no time for bath. I did manage to get the mil's present, the presents for the boys from my aunt with the vouchers that eventually turned up and a new snowsuit for him in 6-9mths to see us through til Spring. Oh, and an M&S tea cos I couldn't be arsed after all of that to cook!

SpiraelingSnowflakes · 21/12/2010 20:11

I'd probably start by mixing some avocado with soft cheese and offering that, kkfairybrains. Then maybe move on to making a cheese sauce and serving it with cauliflower... Then maybe some sticks of hard cheese or corners of (cooled) cheese on toast once BLW gets underway?

That's great that E's on 'words'. Grin M's no where near, and has in fact regressed to squealing over the last few days... Hmm I'm becoming surprisingly tolerant to it, but poor DH has a bit of a cold so his ears are feeling delicate.

I'm intrigued by the feelings towards chocolate, I didn't think it was that bad in occasional small doses! Though I'm willing to reconsider. :) I've ventured into the viper pit AIBU with it to see what the masses think. Or be verbally abused, whichever happens. Wink

WhatSheSaid · 21/12/2010 20:57

Just had a read of your AIBU, Spirael, looks like the general consensus is that it's OK.

I can't remember when I first gave dd1 chocolate/sweets etc but she eats really well now and doesn't clamour for sweet stuff. Well, no more than the average 3 year old Wink.

CrimboCakeandRoses · 21/12/2010 22:24

productive afternoon here (sorry about yours tho mlic!) ticked a whole load of stuff off my list/s. actually sent some xmas cards at last too.

oh and what i learnt this evening:

The sofa ain't so bad

My tummy now needs lighting and angles and shit Sad

Risotto doesn't need non-stop stirring - one can actually turn off the heat and go back to it 'later'

I still really fancy my dh Grin

viksam · 21/12/2010 22:30

OMG im such a looser but i dont know what AIBU stands for, help me not to be such a window licker..........

WhatSheSaid · 21/12/2010 22:40

Vik AIBU stands for Am I Being Unreasonable. It's a section of Mumsnet where huge fights happen things can get a little heated. Not the only section though.

CrimboCakeandRoses · 21/12/2010 23:18

Starting to panic a bit now. Does this still sound like teething?

Felix was happy all day at nursery, was slow to eat but otherwise normal.

No sick or loose nappies since one of each yday.

Hardly eating at home but is drinking fine.

Wouldn't let dh brush his teeth twice this week.

Really upset and clingy this evening - woke up at 10pm and had to be brought down with us.

Temp of 38.4 but now gone down (with neurofen. Was chewing the syringe afterwards)

Has a bit of a cough and cold but nothing major.

Note: I did take a stool sample to docs yday just in case it's related to last week's tummy bug.

What do you think?

I was never a panicker before dc and now look at me :-(

kkfairybrains · 21/12/2010 23:22

Kinky cakes!!
thats a lot of ways to have cheese spireal!! Would i be mistaken in thinking you really like cheese?! Whatever you want to do and feel comfortable with, go for it. Let us know if she enjoys it!!
Keep meaning to ask cakes about your camera. Is it a professional one? most of the pics i take of ellie on my camera she has red eyes in them. How do i stop this from happening? and lastly i'd like to get a new camera that has lovely clear pictures like yours so what kind of thing do i look for in a camera? If you can't answer it's fine but you just seem to know what you're doing when it comes to photography :)

OP posts:
kkfairybrains · 21/12/2010 23:24

X post cakes. All them signs definately point to teething i'd say. They say as they get older they suffer more with them so maybe that's why he's different to normal. But it definately sounds like teething to me.

OP posts:
CrimboCakeandRoses · 21/12/2010 23:57

thank you kk. you're right it does. even writing it all down made it more obvious.

if i don't give you a proper reply tomo re cameras, can you remind me please? too late now to type as much as i want to!

in the meantime - what camera do you have at the mo? how much would you want to spend on a new one? how often do you take photos and where - ie do you want one that's easily portable even if images aren't so good?

Xmasstac · 22/12/2010 00:08

evening all

dh rileigh was 2 weeks early like mindy and they were born the same day lol her weaning is going fine, She was a bit off her grub but think that was or is teething

I am just unsure when I should be moving onto chunkier stuff, any ideas anyone?

kk Rileigh is gibbering but it has only sounded like dada a couple of times her favourite just now is say ddiiisss kind of sound like ten in french lmao. Any idea when your getting water back

cakes sounds like teething really hurting the poor soul. youhave had a very productive day lol

memphis are you feeling better from yesterday?

spireal I dont think a little bit of chocolate on a special occaission will do any harm, hows your thread going?

mlic we are getting food made seperate for Rileigh too, seems only fair she should have the same for dinner

I havent been giving her pudding after dinner, think I would be pushing it. She has 3 meals per day and still drinks 8oz bottles, am I doing something wrong? Got her weighed today and at nearly 24wks she is 18lbs 1oz so the hv is happy. She has a rash on her neck which the hv says is due to saliva from teething so she has got me a prescription for cream. Also today she had spots on her face and we think she may be allergic to johnsons baby wipes (moves to bad mother corner for using wipes) the think is we always used them then switched to huggies pure just so happened to pick johnsons up the other day and now this, anyway hv says if its not away by tomorrow then I have to phone the doc for and appointment. Sorry bit of a me,me, me post. Hope everyones well Xmas Grin

memphis83 · 22/12/2010 08:42
