Hello ladies, hope no one minds me taking the liberty of creating a new thread and approves of the name choice. We've been moving a bit slower than antenatal so though we'd most certainly have some year-olds by the time we finished this one!

Ooh exciting DWB! Can't wait to find out either!

Poor little Ioan, sorry to hear he's still not on the mend yet.

And helips - glad to hear you made it back! Hope you enjoyed Christmas and New Year. how much more time do you have in your winter clothes before flying back to the sunshine?

tigger32 · 02/01/2011 10:11

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all have a healthy and happy year.
DWB I hope your scan goes well and I look forward to your update, will you be finding out the sex of your baby at the scan?
Scarlotti I hope your ds is feeling better.
We've had a great time over Christmas and new year, ds3 has started to walk more and now walks more than he crawls, my Dad took us shopping for ds's 1st pair of shoes, he looks so cute in them!

I'm going to take my Christmas tree down today so that we can start to get back to normal.

DontWorryBaby · 02/01/2011 16:06

I'd like to find out, if the sonographer will tell me! DH won't be at the scan with me and he doesn't want to know so that will be a very difficult secret to keep!

To all the bookworms out there - I was delighted to receive a kindle for Christmas! Have been looking through the bookclub on here for suggestions and have recently read the January book - Trespass by Rose Tremain, which I found a bit depressing. Now reading Week in December by Sebastian Faulks which was one of last year's choices and I'm finding it a lot more enjoyable so would quite like to read some more of his stuff next. Any other recommendations?

longwayaway · 02/01/2011 23:09

Hi all,

Sorry to hear about all the colds. I've just gotten my first one in a year and it's kicking my butt! Really hope DH and DD manage to avoid picking it up.

Don't know what got into DD last night but our usually-excellent little sleeper screamed whenever we put her down in her crib :( We took turns getting up every couple hours, rocking her to sleep, putting her down and sneaking away with fingers crossed. Finally around 4:30 I just let her cry, it was horrible! At her regular wake-up time DH brought her into our bed for a BF and we all fell back asleep until 9:30! Then DH got up with her and I stayed in bed until 11:30, feeling miserable with this cold. Not sure if she was teething, or the rain woke her up or what.

We had a lovely Christmas with DH's family in Chicago, bookended with delayed flights but fortunately no cancelled ones. Now LO is swimming in toys! I'm starting to really dislike anything with lots of pieces, she just scatters them across the floor. Not quite walking yet.

DWB That's tough! But you'll tell us if you find out, right? Grin

Happy New Year, everyone!

Fruitpastels · 03/01/2011 12:47

Happy New Year everyone!

I hope those who have been ill and babies too are on the mend.

DWB How exciting! Are you going to be able to keep it secret from your DH? Can't believe how quickly your pregnancy seems to be going. My BF is also pg. I love hearing her talk about it all. It doesn't make me broody, which I thought it would.

Longway I feel your pain.

C has never been a good sleeper, but recently had improved loads, but the last 4 weeks have been a nightmare at night. He had a bad cold and then 4 teeth started to cut through (his first ones!) and they still continue to bother him. I've had hardly any sleep, I think the stocks of sleep I built up on recently are keeping me going. We have a couple of wake ups and then a major one at 4am (out of habit) and he crys for 1hr normally until he falls back to sleep and then wakes at 6.30am. My new found energy has been taken away Sad. I'm sticking to controlled crying as back in the day I would have him in my bed. Not going back to that, so this way is the long haul until the teeth calm down and C gets the message that 4am isn't a time to wake up!

Has any of the babies dropped their morning nap? C has almost dropped his since Xmas.

SirBoobAlot · 03/01/2011 18:57

Hey everyone, just popping by to say I hope you're all well. Hoping to get internet sorted at some point at my place. Getting used to living by ourselves, Bryn is happily crawling from room to room now, and is slowly adjusting to sleeping in his own room too.

Think of you all lots, hopefully will catch up soon. x

katster37 · 03/01/2011 21:08

Hi all,

Just popping on to say Happy New Year, and I hope you all had a lovely Christmas. Just been trying to catch up on all the news - sounds like there are a lot of nasty bugs flying around. S had a bit of a virus combined with a back chompy tooth on the way and went on hunger strike for a week so that was a bit stressful. He's back eating now, but refuses anything from a spoon so I am having to become more and more creative with finger foods!

We are in the middle of packing - moving in 5 days, to my parents' temporarily (until new baby arrives) - have literally no idea where all our stuff will squeeze!

DWB eeek, 20 w scan already - v exciting! Will you really be able to find out the sex and not tell DH?! You must be far more controlled than I am Grin

BBL did you have a good birthday?

MsInterpret - or fellow IoE PGCE-er (!) your NYE actually sounds lovely! Ours was ridiculously dull, and I didn't even make it to midnight - shock horror!!! Next year I vow not to be pregnant or BFing (much) and will definitely be on the champagne. Hopefully in vast quantities.

SirBoob good to hear from you and to hear that you are getting settled in your new home. I found it really difficult to sleep for ages when S first went in his own room!

For everyone back at work tomorrow - hope it's not too bad. My mat leave starts on thurs (which would be my first day back as I only work thurs and fri) -can't believe it....

skorpion · 04/01/2011 09:21

Happy New Year everyone!!

Had a lovely Christmas and New Year, it has gone sooo fast though!

Goodness, katster, that's come quick! Good luck with the move.

SirBoob hope you're settling in well.

DWB good luck with the scan. You sound much more disciplined than I am - no way I could keep the secret.

Sorry to hear of the bugs and colds. Lucy's one is just starting to go but she's back at nursery today so we will see... Still haven't sorted out her jabs.

Sleep still is bad our way - Fruit I feel your pain. She's cut two teeth in a space of a week or so, but I don't know if I can blame this for the wakings. To be honest I have given up trying to guess the reasons and just resigned myself to it.

She has started to use my nipples as a dummy recently, which is another new thing. Last night she latched on for about an hour and made a racket when I tried to get away Hmm

Anyway, back to work...

ursigurke · 04/01/2011 12:59

Quick hello and Happy New Year from Austria.
We were supposed to fly back today but as Paula has the worst cold she has ever had, we rebooked for sunday. Luckily it seems to get better now.
So I really feel with those with colds, bugs, teething pain and sleepless nights.

sirboob, congratulations on your new home, I missed your move somehow.

Oh, and much more interesting: It seems as if I have joined katster and DWB :)
I'm only 5 weeks tomorrow so much too early to talk about it but hey, we are on mumsnet...
It's actually fun to keep the secret and as I have to bf Paula more often at night due to her cold, it is very clear to everyone that I should not drink when everybody is drinking. We decided to wait a bit longer before telling my family as my SIL is enjoying her first pregnancy so I think she should get all the attention she deserves.

katster37 · 04/01/2011 14:13

Yay Usigurke!!!!!! Lovely news!! Smile

skorpion · 04/01/2011 15:39

Ursi Huge congratulations!!! :) :) :)

DontWorryBaby · 04/01/2011 16:37

Welcome to the club ursi - hope you are keeping well. Will post a longer message after scan tomorrow :)

MsInterpret · 04/01/2011 18:09

Woo, congratulations ursi! Fantastic news Grin

Good luck for the scan tomorrow DWB

OP posts:
Fruitpastels · 04/01/2011 18:46

Lovely news Ursi!! Smile

DWB Will you be sharing with us your pink or blue news tomorrow?

scarlotti · 04/01/2011 19:07

Ursi congratulations, lovely news and how nice of you to let your SIL enjoy her moment a while longer.

DWB good luck for tomorrow.

Katster when are you due then? Heavens, I didn't realise it was fairly soon!

Back to work this morning, what a shock to the system. Must find a way to ease the stress of the mornings...

Teething here still causing problems, along with the cough that won't go. Fruit we were dropping the morning nap before all this but it's hit and miss now depending on when he's slept at night.
I'm struggling to know whether what he's doing re sleep/feeding/etc is normal now or a phase or down to illness. Am trying, but failing, to go with the flow and it's actually making me feel like a bit of a rubbish mum. Sorry to bring the tone down.. Both DS and DD were sleeping through (I think!) by now so I'm struggling a bit with this one. Hopefully soon he'll either crawl or get up and walk, then will tire himself out properly during the day so he'll sleep through at night.

DontWorryBaby · 04/01/2011 19:25

Fruit I think so, provided those of you who are on facebook don't mention it!! I'm lousy at keeping secrets but will do my best to ensure DH gets his surprise. We both know it's unlikely though!

Scarlotti if he's still teething and coughing, try to ride it out a little longer. He'll get there. And while you mention stressful mornings, someone posted on twitter the other day a saying which rang true with me - "The more organized you are, the less stress you will have, and the more present you will become." I'm going to try to do more preparation the night before!

scarlotti · 04/01/2011 19:27

DWB so true - the DS' are at DH's tonight and it's DS1's first day back at school tomorrow. Did I get his uniform and back packed last night? No, I sat on my backside in front of the tv instead, and then ran around like a headless chicken this morning Hmm
I am my own worst enemy at times.

Fruitpastels · 04/01/2011 20:00

DWB I will say nada on FB Smile Good luck tomorrow!

Scarlotti I have been feeling the same as you these days. I'm not sure what C wants anymore with naps and meal times. I'm just trying to go with the flow as much as possible. I keep telling myself it will get easier when C starts walking and tires himself out more. It feels tougher when I've had no sleep. I've joined a housekeeping thread, it's given me some incentive to start a better routine. Once we're back to school I will be making an effort to organise myself the night before.

scarlotti · 04/01/2011 20:09

Fruit what is this housekeeping thread you speak of? I could really do with some motivation to get things sorted out. I think the situation at home isn't helping either - I would love to get to a point where I'm juggling things with some ease!

katster37 · 04/01/2011 20:09

God luck DWB*! You are so disciplined! I would be hopeless at keeping it a secret Grin YOu'll have to alternate between he and she, whatever happens, and leave random pink and blue things lying around to deliberately confuse him. That would be the only way I could do it!

Scarlotti, I really feel for you. I don't know if it's relevant, but DS had a massive back tooth come through last week and he was terrible with sleep but especially food for a good 8 - 9 days. He turned the sleep thing around literally overnight at 11 months, and went from waking 6 - 7 x per night, every night, to sleeping through, 7pm-6am. Which was nice!! We followed the Toddler Taming sleep thing, which is like a toned down version of controlled crying, I don't know if that would help? We never had to leave him to cry for longer than 5 minutes. Yes, due quite soon - 31 weeks tomorrow, eeek. It has gone so, so, so much quicker this time. And I am not remotely prepared!

Fruitpastels · 04/01/2011 20:25

here scarlotti. I came across it the other day. It's given me a helping hand to start off slowly with a housework routine. The ladies are lovely and we are adapting things to suit our own household. Might not be your cup of tea. Not sure if it's mine - yet Grin

scarlotti · 05/01/2011 12:26

Thanks, might just join you on there!

helips · 05/01/2011 13:02

Happy New Year lovely mummies! And big congrats to Ursi on your lovely news!

I am back in Singapore, jet lagged but had a great time in the UK. Had a lovely Christmas and caught up with loads of friends and family, it was so good to be back, although we all got the sickness bug which wasn't so great (although good to lose a few of those Christmas pounds!)

DWB good luck with the scan today, let us know if it's pink or blue and I promise not to utter a word on facebook!

Better go, Millie has woken up twice screaming her head off, does this baby ever stop teething?! My New Years resolution is to try and join in here more!

JuicyLips · 05/01/2011 14:36

ongratulations Ursi!

Hope the scan goes/went well today DWB

Sirboob Glad the move went ok and you and Bryn are settling well.

MsInterpret · 05/01/2011 18:16

Ooh, DWB's scan pic is on FB and she's remainig tight-lipped about gender.

She'll tell us though, right.......Shock?
