Hello ladies, hope no one minds me taking the liberty of creating a new thread and approves of the name choice. We've been moving a bit slower than antenatal so though we'd most certainly have some year-olds by the time we finished this one!

Happy birthday Ethan!!!

And sorry longwayaway and katster sorry i did not say happy birthday to Maeve and Sam Sad hope you had great days.

Yesterday was lovely, Roo has a fab time, lots of children running about, lovely food mostly done by DH and lots of cars bought for the lovely Roo. He spent a lot of time bewildered, but loved his morning bath with me, DD and his new bath toys before people arrived in the afternoon. He is such a lovely happy boy and really seemed to love his presents, much to the delight of those giving! However, he slept like poop last night, after caving at 7pm and not having much tea, and was awake at 4am talking away to me and himself! I reckon he was aiming to be awake the full 24 hours his birthday celebration!

Sorry for not posting more, will read and post a bit more later when I sit down for longer (i am meant to be asking MN a question for DH!)

DontWorryBaby · 29/11/2010 15:53

Not sure if this will help you bf'ing mummies, but I'd read they should be having 500ml of milk a day. Ethan is now only on whole fat cow's milk so he has a full bottle in the morning with his breakfast (usually porridge & toast) and another full bottle before bed.

Ethan has some lovely new toys, he's done very well for his first birthday! Not sure what to get him for Christmas now... Smile

katster37 · 29/11/2010 18:22

HI all,
So lovely to hear of all the birthday news/celebrations! Happy Birthday to Ethan and Roo - I am sure I've missed others from the past few days so apologies....
We have been stuck in since Thursday and I am going slightly bonkers! Sam has had bronchitis and is still on anti biotics, and I have some awful cough/cold/nastiness that is making me feel rubbish and it is so cold out, I don't think we should venture far. But I am going mad in the one warm room of the flat! Hopefully tomorrow we will all be feeling better and can go for a walk somewhere.

Skorpion I have worried about the milk thing too. When I was BFing up to a month ago, I don't think S was getting much milk at all, I don't think I had much for the last month or so. But he still comfort fed anyway, and then he always had cows milk on his cereal and I made sure he had plenty of yoghurt and cheese. I read somewhere that they need 20oz of calcium products (not that that's much help if you're BFing, I know) so I tried to make sure I added bits of milk to mashed potato and put philadelphia or equivalent on it. It sounds like L is feeding a lot when she does feed though? I am sure it's fine.

Longwayaway I felt v emotional on Sam's birthday too. It's mad thinking back to all the emotions of last year, and how we've come over the last 12 months! Happy Thanksgiving!

Helips I started going in a few minutes after Sam starts crying in the night (not long) and more often than not, he gets himself back to sleep now.

Hope everyone's keeping warm!

Hope everyone is enjoying the snow, I am slightly jealous!

My period returned yesterday, first one since Millie was conceived! I've forgotten how annoying they are!

Katster Poor little Sam, I hope he feels better soon, and hope your cough goes soon.

MsInterpret [wave] how are you?

Ninjacat · 01/12/2010 08:44

Oh no Alfred has learnt to move the entire play pen across the room when he's inside. This is a whole new level of mischief!

Sorry Helpis that your period returned. Mine came back after 5mnths despite breastfeeding. Ugh they are a pain but at least you know everything is working so to speak.

Not much snow but very cold here. I suppose we just have to grin and Bear it.

skorpion · 01/12/2010 09:12

Very good, Ninja! Good to get it out of the system Grin And how on earth is he managing to do that? Must be a strong boy you have there.

Hi MsInterpret, how are you and Rosa?

No periods here yet... Not that I miss them, but am getting more and more concerned of it coming back at the most inappropriate time. Haven't had one off the pill for well over ten years now so it will be interesting to see the difference.

Have a household full of lurgy, went to bed early last night and my wonderful daughter let me sleep until 3am! And slept again in our bed until we had to get up to come to work / nursery at six.

She has also started to find her feet and manages to get up on them from crawling more and more. Forfot to say earlier, well done Pavlov's Roo for walking!!

Laugs I hope you had some respite sleep wise, too.

Oxford looking lovely in brilliant winter sunshine. Cold and sparkly.

skorpion · 01/12/2010 09:13

Forfot? That's a funny word...

helips · 01/12/2010 12:30

Hee Hee Ninja Xmas Grin

PavlovtheCat · 01/12/2010 20:25

omg it is official. i am sad. i am doing the thing i love most in the world - tucked up in bed, on my own, with laptop, phish food and intention of going to sleep in a moment - the pavlov of 6 years ago would be Shock at the notion of going to bed early for anything other than sex Grin. i have Arrived.

I do hope you lovely ladies all get as close to a good night's sleep as possible, and have all had good days with your babies. I missed my little boy a lot today, have been busy, worked late, had some sad news (a person i was working with on alcohol issues died at the weekend), had to run around, and realised before i knew it, it was bedtime! tomorrow, i finish at 1pm and the whole afternoon will be me and him, playing with his birthday toys. I wish i worked less, there just does not seem to be enough time, for either of my babies Sad

scarlotti · 01/12/2010 22:11

lurking here too Blush and freezing cold. Think the dc's will be off tomorrow as schools and college likely to be shut - they're delighted, I'm dreading a full day of them bouncing off the walls!

JuicyLips · 02/12/2010 11:19

That sounds like heaven Pav (your evening in, not your sad news that is Sad), we went to see the new Harry Potter film so that was good, but I was really cold throughout the film even with lots of layers on.

Have just been out in the snow, was fun. didn't stay out very long as really was freezing and worried about the littlens but at least Annabelle got to see the snow for a bit, albeit from her sling.

lemontop · 02/12/2010 11:39

Brrrrrrrr

Isaac's feeling better after the worst week of cold, poo, vomit x 100 but he's so bored with us just staying in all the time. We made it out yesterday but it was difficult to get the buggy through the snow and he's too heavy for the sling. How are you all keeping your little 'uns occupied?

Also wanted to ask about xmas trees. Are you going to put one up? We've seen a few in shopping centres and restaurants and Isaac has been totally amazed. I'd love to put one up but reckon he'd just try and climb on it, pull it over, eat the decorations. Hmmm.

ursigurke · 02/12/2010 12:11

quick update from here:
Paula and I are both just getting over another cold.
tooth no 13 definitely cut through, no 14, not quite sure, but rather not. seems to be covered still by a thin layer of skin since about two weeks and since this morning, no 15 and 16 are definitly closer better to see than yesterday. I suppose, those three will be soon out.
I think this is excuse enough for my absence lately...

Although I have to say, last night was much better (than about the last 8 weeks). It was impossible to get her back into the cot at around 10 and had even problems to fall asleep on me / next to me but then she slept until 4! and after a quick feed again until 6.15.

Oh, and Paula finally started to say mama. She did it once in the morning with a big smile and huged me. Since that she keeps calling me papa (german for daddy) though Confused. I think papa means something like "hello person I like", whereas mama means "hey, I want something NOW". So actually it is not too bad to be called papa.

And as I have missed to much, just a couple of general statements:

I hope all those with colds, nappy rash or other problems will soon feel much better!

periods, mine are back since june and have been light and without pain. But the one that started yesterday was actually with headache and cramps! How annoying! I guess, time to get pregnant again Wink

milk, I've heard they need about a pint. Hard to say if you bf but I do one when we wake up, one with dinner, one for bedtime and then 1-3 at night. So I'm sure that is enough. But I do wonder how to move on to cowsmilk. So far it is in her porridge at breakfast and I think I will try a bottle on the weekend. Is there anything we have to consider? Does it have to be cooked first? Or just heated to a nice temperature? And I'm quite sure she won't take it.

snow, we have just been to the park and she walked around in the snow. Very cute. And she fell asleep on the way home. Before even having lunch.

entertainment. Paula definitely prefers being around other children. So we try to go to an activity, like rhyme time at the library or drop-in play centres,... almost every morning. Especially when she is in a bad mood, she forgets about it if we are out. But as we both had a cold, it wasn't quite possible. And then it gets really annoying at home. On some days, I had to sit next to her or she would start crying really sadly.

tree, good question. We will certainly put one up but traditionally we'll only do it on the 24th. As we are leaving on the 25th, there is luckily no time to climb on it. But that is definitely a good point. (and if you worry about us wasting a tree for just one day + a couple of days when we come back, we always take an ugly one who no one else would buy :) )

Sorry for the long post but it has been a while. I hope I can be here more regularly from now on

JuicyLips · 02/12/2010 12:41

lemontop Poor Isaac, glad to hear he's a bit better today. Annabelle is just about ok in the sling but cant carry her for long in it.

Tree yes, will be putting our plastic one up, but keeping an eye on it as I know she will be curious and want to play with it plus pull off all the decorations and tinsel. it'll still be worth it though. Id be worried about a real one as those pins are sharp on the floor and I'd be worried about annabelle getting them in her hands and legs whilst crawling about. might put ours up today actually. like to put it up early!

skorpion · 02/12/2010 14:59

Aw, ursi, and 'ugly tree'... :) We'll put one up the day before Christmas Eve, live one. I'm always on a lookout for Lucy anyway, as there are lots of plants on our floors, one in particular in a very silly and easily toppled pot.

Sorry to hear, ursi, that you've had such a difficult time with Paula's sleep. But, limey, all those teeth? Will she ever stop, do you think? GrinGrin

And she sounds very cute with her mama/papa thing.

My day off tomorrow, plan to go shopping for some felt, buttons, cotton and ribbons to make my own tree decorations. I love the little stuffed felt hearts they sell in Ikea and have gone all mushy at the thought of starting my own Christmas production tradition. Haven't done this since my sister and I were children.

katster37 · 02/12/2010 17:43

Hi all Grin

Ursi good to hear from you. Wow, what a lot of teeth - I didn't realise they got that many Grin Sam only has 7. Does she even have the back chompy ones? She must be v good at chewing! Sam likes other babies' company too, although as we have now not left the flat for A WHOLE WEEK he has not had much in the way of other babies to play with. Both of us still coughing, and and he's only been eating normally today. My parents are coming down tomorrow so that should cheer him up, and Daddy was off work today as no trains/roads ungritted so that was a bit of a treat.

Lemontop Sorry to hear you have had a rough week too. I'm glad ISaac's feeling abit better now. Horrid bug though, sounds awful.

Skorpion I am loving the sound of your home-made decorations - you have almost inspired me!! Did you brave Ikea today??? I can only go if I am promised a Daim bar cake at the end of it!

Pavlov also like the sound of your early night - I must be officially sad too!

Tree - we will be at my parents' from the 19th this year, and they always have one, but I don't think we'll bother getting one at ours before then. I am sure Sam would probably just eat it/ pull it down or something. But then I do like being festive. Hmm...

katster37 · 02/12/2010 17:44

Skorpion - sorry - just seen you are going TOMORROW. Duh.

scarlotti · 02/12/2010 21:25

Ursi good to hear from you and wow on all those teeth!

skorpion lovely tradition to start!

Pav another fan of your early night here!!

tree we have one every year, a fake one as I can't be faffed hoovering all the pine needles and it's cheaper. My favourite bit is taking out the decorations and re-living the years of my dc's through the things they've made for my tree. It's just magic. There are things that DD made 15 years ago when she was first at nursery, and Ioan has made some stuff at the childminders so I'll have his to add to my collection this year Grin

I've always just put one up and said no if they've gone to pull anything off. If you make sure it's weighted down properly so it's solid, then keep any precious decorations for higher up then the babies will be fine.

No school today so dc's at home and slowly climbing the walls, no school tomorrow either so not sure my sanity will survive!

skorpion · 03/12/2010 20:17

Scarlotti that's precisely what I am after and am already looking forward to all the Christmases of the future. Our little tradition between my sister and me is that every year there has to be something new for the tree. She goes a bit further with piling on every old thing that she's already got, so over the years there's not much tree left to see through all the decorations Grin

I used to love making paper chains and stars and am going all giddy just thinking about how lovely it will be to involve Lucy.

BTW, I hope you survived today OK.

My shopping trip has to be postponed until tomorrow. I fell over leaving work last night, went smack on my bum and banged the back of my head. Thank goodness it was on a rubbery running track and not tarmac (I work at a sports centre and no, was NOT out running). Head seems to be OK, but my tail bone is giving me grief. BE CAREFUL WALKING OUT THERE, the black ice is lethal!

katster37 · 03/12/2010 20:39

Skorpion you poor thing. I am completely terrified of falling in this. Braved it to Sainsbury's today, the car park was like an ice rink. I was holding onto all the cars to get to the shop! Am so paranoid about falling and landing on my (enormous) bump... Would rather hide indoors and wait for it all to go! Anyway, I hope you're ok. Falling is not fun Sad

lemontop · 03/12/2010 22:32

Skorpion hope you're OK. I had to carry Isaac in the sling yesterday and was terrified of falling over.

katster It must be so scary being pregnant and worrying about falling in this weather. When are you due? Does it feel any different second time around?

Am wondering when to try for #2 myself. I've lost about 2.5 stone to try and reduce chances of getting GD again but would like to lose a bit more really just because I'll never know if it was the GD that resulted in me having Isaac prematurely (although my mam had both me and my brother prematurely and she was tiny!)

Just put the tree up-early I know- but I love Xmas! and can't wait to see Isaac's reaction in the morning!

Ninjacat · 04/12/2010 08:03

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMES Bear

DontWorryBaby · 04/12/2010 09:01

Happy Birthday James & Alfie!

Has anyone noticed the snowman in the mumsnet logo?

katster I too am terrified of falling and unfortunately just look a bit fat and not obviously pregnant yet so no offers of help when I'm skating around like bambi. Very undignified! Skorpion hope you are feeling better x

I made the mistake of going to a girl's work night out with my old work last night, booked before I changed jobs. It was a Beyonce & Lady Gaga tribute night so even the meal was served with a disco in the background. Ive almost lost my voice this morning and feel hungover. It's hardly worth the bother of going out while pregnant, is it? I also have a scissor sisters gig next week with mum & DSIL. I'll be going from work. Hoping to get away with not dressing up for it, I'm sooo not in the mood! Moan moan moan...

Ursi Ethan has just got his second tooth. Hopefully you'll have lots of sleep-filled nights if Paula has a full set!

I'm off back to bed with my bad mood, sore throat and "hangover". Hope everyone has a good weekend x

lemontop · 04/12/2010 13:24

Happy Birthday James and Alfie

DWB lots of respect for going to a party like that sober! It sounds like something you'd need a lot of booze for.

Isaac was amazed by the Christmas tree. He gave out several ooh ooh gasps then sat down and clapped. I think he likes it!
