what did GB say? heeeeelp

Hassled · 07/05/2010 13:59

I don't know what I think anymore . Clegg is putting it in First Past The Post terms, isn't he - Cameron has most seats, hence should get first dibs. But that's bollocks if you look at it in PR/%age terms, which is what Clegg should be all about. So yes, you're right and I was wrong - Clegg needs to hold out for PR.

Hassled · 07/05/2010 14:00

Do you think they've given Dimbleby speed? How is he still functioning?

Francagoestohollywood · 07/05/2010 14:02

Oh hang on, I found it on the guardian website

Beachcomber · 07/05/2010 14:03

He sounded yesterday like he had a cold, i reckon he's doing it on sudafed and cough syrup (poor lamb).

jennylindinha · 07/05/2010 14:03

Hassled - I was thinking the same thing! How can he still be going?

LordVoldemandy · 07/05/2010 14:03

Sooo whilst GB and Darling are taking care of business with the other adults....I wonder who is sliding up the back stairs at LibDem House?

Sllllide slink slivvvvvvver

PfftThePinkoLeftyDragon · 07/05/2010 14:03

It's not over though- just because Clegg speaks to Hameron first, doesn't mean he will go with him, surely he will want to hear what everyone offers?

auberginesrus · 07/05/2010 14:04

The tension is unbearable, its worse than waiting for exit polls/results/swings etc last night.

Thought Gordon was excellent (and have never really been a fan)

Nervous about what Hamface will be like though...

jennylindinha · 07/05/2010 14:05

OOh, go Cheltenham!

auberginesrus · 07/05/2010 14:05

LD hold Cheltenham - increased majority

Was I the only one who thought when GB mentioned problems in the Eurozone/Alastair Darling, that they could hardly imagine candle child Osborne being taken seriously by the Euros in such serious circumstances?

He's such a dignified man. He's really done a brilliant job to keep things this close, after 13 years and the recession, it's some acheivement.

I agree with wubblybubbly

I am finding it amusing how often we can slip ham or some variation into the conversation.

Gordonsavingexpertdotcom · 07/05/2010 14:15

Gordon is so statesmanlike at the moment.
Do wish Nick Robinson didn't come across as such a Tory - revels in Labour misfortune, IMHO.
Yes, the nod to the G7 conference did sound like "the real men are carrying on with the job - you squabble amongst yourselves and we'll talk to anyone about what is best for the country" which is a bit rich given the Blair/Brown nonsense and how destructive all that was at the time, both to the party and the country.

Was I the only one who thought when I saw Mandelson on TV at 6.30 this morning after falling asleep while he was talking at 3am "Oh I don't suppose he sleeps anyway as he's one of the undead"?

Nymphadora · 07/05/2010 14:16

Going to have to get ready to go away for the weekend. Still have kids party stuff to do and meeting dh at 3pm.

PLEASE let me know the rest of the results esp Westmorland and Penrith!

TIA

"Do you think they've given Dimbleby speed? How is he still functioning?"

They've probably swapped Dimblebys while no-one was looking. Come on, who can really tell the difference anyway?

Yay for Cheltenham!!!

Hassled · 07/05/2010 14:16

Beachcomber - the thought of Osbourne being there talking about Things That Matter in Europe makes me want to weep. The full horror of what it all might mean is just coming home to me - I've been in a happy bubble of denial up to now.

nearlytoolate · 07/05/2010 14:16

A few comments
-as I thought, gordon's hanging on. who knows where this will end
-no one knows what the result would have been under 'PR'. If we had an AV system, highly unlikely that LibDems would have 23% of the seats. Basically it just reallocates second places. It might not change things much at all - little evidence in most constituencies that the combined anti tory vote would been the tories (assuming indeed that lib and lab would always put the other second, and that's a large stretch).
-I still maintain that there is little evidence that voters have voted for electoral reform. Nobody voted for a hung parliament, its just where we ended up
-heard the DUP naming his price for support on R4. Basically, no cuts for NI. Despicable pork barrel politics of the lowest order.
