Greens adopt policy treating Zionism as racism

The Greens have formally adopted a policy which equates Zionism with racism, a move that will dismay the bulk of the party’s MPs and has alarmed some Jewish members.

In a vote on Sunday at the party’s annual conference in Brighton about whether to back a motion which calls for Zionism, the movement for a Jewish state, to be “treated as any other form of racism”, it passed by 1,022 votes to 813.

The motion, which is now formal policy for the Greens in England and Wales, also calls for a single Palestinian state in place of Israel “with equal rights for all”.

Four of the party’s five MPs have condemned the motion, as did Caroline Lucas, the former leader who was the Greens’ first MP.

Adrian Ramsay, who co-led the Greens before Polanski, said in a statement he would vote against it, as it set out what sort of Palestinian state should exist without taking into account the self-determination of Israelis and Palestinians.

Siân Berry, another of the MPs, made the same point.

Carla Denyer, the Bristol Central MP who was co-leader with Ramsay, said the wording “risks alienating a significant proportion of Jewish people, including those who vehemently disagree with the Israeli government”.

Another Green MP, Ellie Chowns, said the motion “risks fuelling division, and risks undermining the party’s ability to advocate effectively for justice and peace”.

I want to hear it from Burnham and Badenoch too.

Badenoch posted this two days ago, so I don't think she will hold back (I assume she's busy with her conference at the moment)

The fact that they voted down an amendment that would have protected British Jews ( so not ' Israelis or 'Zionists' but British Jewish members of the Green Party) shows exactly their intentions. They deserve to be bankrupted out of existence for this. Just at a time when we need a party that prioritises the environment.

There's no difference in acceptability between discriminating against Israelis and Jews. 'We're only discriminating against Israelis' is not a moral loophole.

Most British people have never met a Jewish person?? Really? Chat GPT estimates 75% of the UK population live within 10 miles of a synagogue.

To be fair, Chris Philp is an utter twat.

It’s definitely me! I copied and pasted an explanation of Biradari and the source of the information in case others were not familiar with it.

Was referring to the existing structure of the green party rather than your mn account😶

Yes I'm expecting a strong response from her.

Not so strong a response from Burnham but he does need to take a stand against this.

Sorry - my misunderstanding, whoops! 😊

And quite agree, it IS cuckooing of the party by an antisemitic cohort.

I know but the people who defend this say they are ' anti zionist' not anti Jewish. Well they have voted to actively intimidate British Jews in their party.

Craftysue · 04/10/2026 20:10

I had a lot of respect for Caroline Lucas when she was the leader, I did consider voting for them. The Green party today seems to have strayed so far from it's original ethos in recent years. At least their views are out in the open now and people know exactly what they're voting for. They're not the only ones - my MP is constantly posting the same thing - Zahra Sultana of Your Party. Vile racists , I hope Polanski loses his deposit in the vote on Thursday.

It was Austin Mitchell who said it! He is Jewish. There are so few remaining Jews in the world it wouldn't be surprising if a lot of people hadn't met one knowingly. I hope it makes the Greens feel great, their persecution of a tiny minority. Makes a change from their persecution of women.

Really not sure we should be discriminating against Zionists either. People have all sorts of viewpoints but they still deserve to be treated fairly.

I happen to be proud of being Israeli AND British AND Jewish… and also proud of being a regular food bank volunteer and library helper. I recycle and look after my kids and am pretty much nice to everyone (though my patience is fraying at work lately). Am not sure anyone should be telling me I’m not allowed to join a political party or go to whatever synagogue I choose or go to the cinema or whatever other things these people think aren’t allowed for people like me.

I mean, they had to establish a safe space for Jews who do not feel safe in their own party but don't understand why any Jews might feel the need for a Jewish state.

I know what you mean, I just wanted to point out that the distinction of 'we only firebombed the synagogue because we hate Israel'/'we hate Israelis, not Jews' etc is meaningless.

It is 'it's not Judenhass, it's antisemitism all over again.

Completely. Weirdly, there's no word for a movement aiming to dismantle any other state.

No one questions Egypt's borders and safety measures. Most of historic Palestine is Jordan, not Israel, and we don't hear a peep about that. They don't condemn other countries' right to exist. It is now politically correct to assign to Israel all of the classic one-dimensional demonisation that was before assigned t Jews. And carefully substituting the vocabulary doesn't update the age-old violence.

Yes you and @PurpleThistle7 are both correct to correct my clumsy wording. These people have decided to take a word that has always meant one thing and twist the meaning into something else as an excuse to firebomb synagogues and abuse Jewish people. They have shown people exactly who they are and hopefully will have to explain themselves in a discrimination tribunal. Hope they paid for an annual parking space the amount of times they have had to go there.

I think we’ll find in the next few months that deputy leader, Mothin Ali, will sideline an openly gay and Jewish Polanski and the Greens will become a fully fundamentalist party that will be tapping into the Biradari system.

“In countries like Pakistan, as well as in local council elections in Western nations with large South Asian diasporas (such as the UK), political candidates negotiate directly with clan elders. The candidate promises political favours, infrastructure, or jobs in exchange for the elders delivering the entire clan’s bloc of votes.”

“Because the system is traditionally patriarchal and hierarchical, the choices of male community elders often dictate how the rest of the network, including women and youth, are expected to vote.“

People should really get used to this in the future. In my experience, nothing makes a person sour on the idea of multiculturalism quite like encountering people you have supported importing into the country who still possess an ethnic/cultural/religious preference to their own people.

Expect politics to continue to devolve into issues of competing cultural grievances and ever increasing demands from single issue lobby groups for an extra slice of the national pie.

Since Labour got rid of Corbyn and his merry band of antisemites.

Some headed off to the Greens, some went to create Your Party but that was a hilarious failure and so they went to the Greens too.

Vanillaicelatte · 04/10/2026 20:46

Douglasmummy · 04/10/2026 17:10

Bloody hell. To be honest, Polanski deserves all he gets. He's allowed himself to be used as a human shield for antisemitism within the Green Party. Sadly there are a tiny amount of Jewish people compared to Muslims, and The Greens have gone out of their way to attract the most fundamentalist element of that community. I hope this leads to an exodus of decent people from The Greens. Polanski is the one who did this and he can live with the consequences

I don’t get how ZP wants the Muslim vote for his party

he is gay Jewish and has crap teeth
why would he want to support & pander to people who say that being gay is a sin and hate Jews

they use to be all about the environment
WTF happened to them

They let Farage and his mates go on about refugees without much in the way of censure, so probably not, really.
