Greens adopt policy treating Zionism as racism

The Greens have formally adopted a policy which equates Zionism with racism, a move that will dismay the bulk of the party’s MPs and has alarmed some Jewish members.

In a vote on Sunday at the party’s annual conference in Brighton about whether to back a motion which calls for Zionism, the movement for a Jewish state, to be “treated as any other form of racism”, it passed by 1,022 votes to 813.

The motion, which is now formal policy for the Greens in England and Wales, also calls for a single Palestinian state in place of Israel “with equal rights for all”.

Four of the party’s five MPs have condemned the motion, as did Caroline Lucas, the former leader who was the Greens’ first MP.

Adrian Ramsay, who co-led the Greens before Polanski, said in a statement he would vote against it, as it set out what sort of Palestinian state should exist without taking into account the self-determination of Israelis and Palestinians.

Siân Berry, another of the MPs, made the same point.

Carla Denyer, the Bristol Central MP who was co-leader with Ramsay, said the wording “risks alienating a significant proportion of Jewish people, including those who vehemently disagree with the Israeli government”.

Another Green MP, Ellie Chowns, said the motion “risks fuelling division, and risks undermining the party’s ability to advocate effectively for justice and peace”.

Weirdly I feel like this shocking but not surprising, given how far the greens have fallen into batshittery in the last few years.

They should have stuck to recycling and carbon emissions.

IMO they are completely unelectable by anyone with common sense. I'm embarrassed I used to vote for them.

Bloody hell. To be honest, Polanski deserves all he gets. He's allowed himself to be used as a human shield for antisemitism within the Green Party. Sadly there are a tiny amount of Jewish people compared to Muslims, and The Greens have gone out of their way to attract the most fundamentalist element of that community. I hope this leads to an exodus of decent people from The Greens. Polanski is the one who did this and he can live with the consequences

He's allowed himself to be used as a human shield for antisemitism within the Green Party.

This is exactly what’s happened. I wonder if he now realises it.

Imveryold · 04/10/2026 18:08

I’m relieved not to have seen anyone on this thread supporting this antisemitic policy, but I would have liked to ask any supporters to explain to me why Israel is a racist country but Pakistan, created specifically as a homeland for the Indian sub-continent Muslims, isn’t.

Obviously I will never vote Green again (and I despise their leader the boob-botherer, as I saw him referred to recently!)

They used to be a centre-left environmentalist party. There are seemingly plenty of low-information voters who still believe them to be.

I didn't think of that. Also, they market themselves as the true left wing UK party which i think attracts a certain type of follow the herd type voter.

A friend of mine raves about ZP. She is a very intelligent woman but is seemingly blinded to the insanity of what the Greens really stand for. I just don't get it.

DottysCollywobbles · 04/10/2026 18:17

What shocked me was the part of the motion to report Green Party members who attend a synagogue. Wtf?!

Hannah Spencer has to vote for it; she got in on the Muslim vote. She’s a chancer and a fool.

SpottyAlpaca · 04/10/2026 18:18

Political suicide. Burnham must be punching the air in delight.

The Greens have been (surprise, surprise) extremely naive. They have allowed their party to be infiltrated & now hijacked by far left activists who might pay lip service to environmentalism but the only thing they really care about is Palestine / Gaza. Their new comrades have brought their far-left antisemitism with them.

Many of these people are Corbynites who Starmer, to his immense credit, kicked out of the Labour Party. They followed their bearded messiah in the direction of Your Party and when that imploded they then moved on to the Greens using classic Trotskyite entryist tactics.

The fact that Caroline Lucas spoke out strongly against this policy tells you everything you need to know.

The only comforting thing is that the Green Party will never win a GE with policies like this. Might as well rename it at this point.

I believe that most people in the UK including me are in favour of a 2 state solution and this will not be a popular policy country wide.

I believe "most people in the UK are in favour of"

Is different to:
Having evidence that "most people in the UK are in favour of"

He’ll be out soon as well.

This is what happens if you get your politics from skimming through social media. This is what happens when people believe politics should be binary. It’s really scary

It’s not the only thing they care about. There is a significant tension point between the two things they care about the most: Gaza/Islam and “trans rights”. It will tear them apart eventually but it’s going to be messy.

Agree. Age old Trotskyite tactics. These are the kind of people who flounced out of Your Party because Corbyn wasn't antisemitic enough, and they still welcomed them with open arms.

@DemBonesDemBones Which part of what @Batsratscatsgnats wrote are you objecting to?

What the hell is going on? I would have supported the Greens potentially. There is no way im giving my support to a party that wants to end the State of Israel and leave Jews with no home. Displace millions of people. Its obscene.
Its actually insane.

Douglasmummy · 04/10/2026 17:13

Yes people on a day out chanting this not knowing what it meant or what river and what sea. Well this is what it means. Not a ' two state solution'. They rejected Polanski's pathetic attempt to put Pandora back in the box and support a two state solution so Green policy is now the elimination of Israel.

I find it all so depressing, scary, and yet predictable.
‘Be kind’ middle class people supporting something they don’t seem to fully understand.
I was at a gig recently where a young guy was wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a watermelon slice shaped as the outline of Israel/ Gaza/ West Bank. So innocent looking while basically deleting Israel.

It will be very interesting to see the result of Thursday's by-election. This vote is in the news at the moment and could well impact voters' intentions. No wonder Zack was so against it.

Polanski turned a blind eye and every time anyone showed concern was very quick to say ' Oh but I'm Jewish!' as a deflection tactic. He will be out because the takeover by the Far Left/Far Right ( interchangeable at this point) will be complete. And shame on the Green Party members who knew this was going to be proposed and sat back and did nothing. They will have to decide what to do.

The latest poll I could find on this subject was from 2024.

Two thirds of Britons (65%) say they support a two-state solution, where independent Israeli and Palestinian states exist alongside each other.

By contrast, only 24% support a one-state solution, which would see a single state including both Israelis and Palestinians.

It's horrific that a policy of a political party in the UK is to deny people their right to freely practice their religion, and that they will expel members who attend synagogue. Even Restore UK aren't saying this. Disgusting.

Is this even legal?

An interesting question. I'm not sure such open racism is legal. Maybe someone will challenge it and we will find out.

Just looked up the list of candidates and they are an eclectic bunch.

There is an alternative for those who genuinely want to vote based on their environmental concerns. Clare Fischer representing the Climate Party.

Also a strong looking Labour candidate in Sagal Abdi-Wali, who has * *been a councillor for Camden Square since 2022.

An appalling, sectarian, racist party that are even more disgusting because they claim they're the good guys. An outrageous motion. Imagine voting that through, and being proud to do so. Blinded by anti-semitism.
