Not long. The electorate want everything solved yesterday and without cost, so it doesn't matter who is in the chair, they will be unpopular almost immediately.

I feel like we’re turning into a ScandiNoir drama where the government is based on flaky coalitions and can fall at any moment.

He hasn't actually started yet

People wanted Starmer out, so they have got what they wanted. But they aren't going to like Burnham, so within weeks they will want him out.
We can't keep having a revolving door of leaders it isn't good for the country and makes us look like idiots to the rest of the world!

I dunno, he’s not got that much room to manoeuvre if he follows the fiscal policy rules inherited. I’m glad to hear his emphasis in tackling monopolies in privatised utilities. And prioritising council house building. I’m worried about his position on foreign policy, which we don’t seem to know anything about, and that’s critical in a Trumpian age. That’s something KS was clearly very good at and Burnham localism agenda may overlook.

He would have benefited from a big bounce had England won yesterday and then in the final.

Sadly, for him, it didn’t happen.

My guess is that he will last until the next GE but then be replaced by Kemi Badenoch as PM.

He’s not even in power yet and you’re already hoping for him to go. This is what’s wrong with British politics.

I would have seen that as more positive for Starmer - especially if he had given us an extra Bank Holiday as suggested.

Keir Starmer is a decent man who did his best. There are so many people who think that he hadn’t sorted out a free money tree and so he needed to go. The UK needs consistency and stability hence a government has a five year term. A lot of shouters demand change every five minutes. I thought the Labour Party might be better about recognising the need for time to change policies. It is not. I think Andy Burnham has behaved badly. I have lost respect for him over this.

I’m a realist.

I’m sure that in dark corners his replacement is already being discussed. Wheels within wheels.

I’m going to set an alarm on my phone for a year’s time - see how things are by then (fully expecting things to not be good).

I think the labour backbenchers will now rule the roost and make life hell for the working population with ways to increase tax, measures that increase unemployment and plans which push high earners out of the jurisdiction. But I think we will have to survive this until the next election as I can’t see them replacing another PM. I also think the backbenchers will enjoy this level of control, even if they harm the economy and punish skilled workers, business owners and wealth creators.

Problem is the country IS full of idiots.

We've got some kind of political sickness. I can't see a way out of revolving door PMs now as things stand. It's an embarrassment at the world stage level, and the instability will have longstanding negative impacts - either that or we'll discover that we don't need this top level of government. Perhaps we could be the first nation to do away with that level of government! I'm no royalist, but since we have them, we could just use them for international representation and diplomacy, whilst our local MPs govern at local level.

I think he will do two years, like Starmer, then it will be planning for the general election, Labour will switch him out, but this will end Labour for ever.

I give it a year. I think this will backfire badly on Labour

He’s an experienced minister and experienced mayor with a lot of good will behind him.

He’s in post until the general election and then it’s up to the electorate

He’s the best chance of a) turning things round for the country b) for Labour and c) stopping Farage getting into no 10.

That’s a really silly comment, Starmer was decent, no one wanted a free money tree. Starmer has gone due to the terrible policies Labour has put in, from shutting down the North Sea to removing the child benefit cap, to increasing stealth taxes , and punishing the working person. Even raising the minimum wage wage for young people, meaning companies don’t employ them any more, raising employers national insurance, costing us jobs. They even tried to take he fuel allowance off pensioners, saving so little. Just because they thought some people who weren’t entitled got it, and they didn’t wish them to.

it has been the biggest shit show in politics for decades and the damage is unprecedented, they have now gone way further in terms of fiscal damage than truss did.

A few months. He's out of his depth here - he'll no doubt do some vague'tax the rich' to appease his supporters but actually achieve very little.

I was listening to Times radio and some one on there was saying the reason for the revolving door of prime ministers is because we simply haven’t got anyone yet who can get a grip of economics and growth. There needs to be radical changes and quick. I hate the constant change of PM too but very frustratingly Kier Starmer just couldn’t make a decision to save his life.

I am not a labour voter but really really hope Andy Burnham can get things moving on the economy. I am fully behind him. He has to do some very difficult things - like decrease taxes on businesses, reduce spending on welfare, scrap the triple lock and increase taxes on the working population - he has no other choices whatsoever. Let’s see if he has the tick skin needed - my concern is that he is a politician that likes to be liked…

Otherwise he’s going to have a very painful years dancing on the head of a pin juggling zero growth with a huge welfare bill.
