Would the police not caution them about speaking to the press during a live murder investigation?

Depends who got to them first - the police or the press.

I guess certain parts of the press need their click bait headlines

The neighbours of Ann have been asked not to speak to the media.

I can imagine anyone speaking to the media may not always have the best interests of the case at heart.

I think the neighbours who spoke to the press are the neighbours of the suspect not of Ann.

It cant be a burglary. What burglar would drive all the way from Yorkshire and rock up on someone's drive in the middle of the day if they wanted to steal a bit of cash or a couple of bits of silver or something. It doesnt make sense.
I think it could very well be someone who wanted to confront her about her views. Or, it could be a family member or acquaintance who got into an argument. But if she'd got into an argument and was in a precarious situation, you have to wonder how she would have also had the time and opportunity to send a text. It's weird.

I'm afraid I dont know what you mean and is it necessary to be quite so rude. How unnecessary and childish.

If I told you what I think may have happened, the thread will be pulled.

What. Say what you mean.

You are obviously very happy to to support a trashy speculative article about the horrific killing of Ann Widdecombe.

I'm not sure what you are saying here.

The Times reported that:

Ann Widdecombe murder suspect drove 300 miles with ‘foot-long stick’

A 28-year-old man who was arrested in South Yorkshire on Saturday evening was seen in CCTV shared with police

The man suspected of murdering Ann Widdecombe drove almost 300 miles to her Dartmoor home with a “foot-long stick” on the morning of her death, neighbours said.

The 28-year-old was arrested by armed police at a former council house in South Yorkshire shortly after 9pm on Saturday.

The former Conservative minister was found dead at her secluded home in Haytor, Devon, on Thursday at 11.40am after sustaining serious head injuries.

CCTV shared with police shows a man leaving a property, in the Kimberworth Park suburb of Rotherham, and driving off in a red Vauxhall Corsa just before 7 o’clock on the morning of her death.

[...]

Neighbours said about a dozen armed officers surrounded the home in Rotherham at about 9pm.

I read the article and thought ,me and my husband are pretty quiet - it seems that is enough to draw attention to yourself to be labelled as loners !! we don't go out that much - see how easily people can make you sound weird ? a foot long pole ? that's not very long is it ? what a crap made up story of some poor sod who is grieving the loss of his dad and happens to be out of work .

igelkott2026 · Today 20:06

If someone travels from Yorkshire to Devon to murder someone, it's not a burglary. It could be someone who heard one of her recent broadcasts, didn't like her views and is enough of a nutter to kill her. I also wondered if it was someone whose mother/sister had been in jail when she was prisons minister but then the question arises why now.

I hope some nice custard creams were involved. Or even a garibaldi or two

Alan Bennett would not have a Garibaldi biscuit in any work.

Though speculation about his work is appropriate. It is not appropriate about Ann Widdecombe and her death.

Of course you won't link to this because it's behind a pay wall and the headline is designed solely for monetary purposes to cash in on the appalling killing of Ann Widdecombe.

It’s not behind a paywall.
So calm down and check your bias.

No intentions of reading it out of respect for Ann Widdecombe and her family.

Ah that’s different, I thought you meant just because it was in that paper.

"me and my husband are pretty quiet - it seems that is enough to draw attention to yourself to be labelled as loners !! we don't go out that much - see how easily people can make you sound weird ?"

I think that would likely apply to DH and myself as well! DH works odd hours and people who do a normal 9 to 5 would probably never see him come or go.

" a foot long pole ? that's not very long is it ? "

In contrast though, I think that this is different.

The article (at least in The Times) reported:

"One neighbour who had seen the video said: “It looked like a wooden stick or an iron bar, about a foot long"

So, it may well have been an iron bar. A foot long iron bar?

A typical car wheel brace (for undoing the wheel nuts on a car wheel when you need to change a tyre) is about a foot long.

I'm sure that a young man could cause a lot of injuries to an elderly woman with a car wheel brace.

Although, we should wait for the police to say more.

Calm down .This is an opinion , no need to jump to conclusions .A lot of people are making assumptions - based on other people's assumptions .Let's just see what the police do next .

So you wrote what you wrote in the belief he isn’t the killer.

The Times has lost a lot of credibility as well, remember the made up private school family.

It's just copying the same speculation story and sticks it behind a paywall

That was the Telegraph, not the Times.

Gosh I can’t beleive you made that about you. That’s quite extraordinary. Clearly No one made up he is arrested for murder simply as he’s a loner.

Gosh ! That's extraordinary ! you've missed the a very important fact ! he's been arrested "on suspicion " of murder - big difference - but don't let the facts get in the way of your drama .

Wouldn’t that make it political though?

He could have had a weird obsession with her without her views being an issue I guess.

I do still wonder if a family member/friend lives near her/works for her etc and told them about how she lives alone etc and the perpetrator thought he’d rob her, thinking it would never be connected to Yorkshire.

I still do wonder if it was a burglary that went wrong.

Oh for fuck sake you aren’t feeling sorry for the specimen if he happens to be the killer are you.

The point here though is that this is all speculation.

Someone saw someone leave the house with some kind of implement and the press are putting two and two together.

And yet A, nobody has yet been charged with a crime.

And B, the person could have gone somewhere else beforehand, and now people on here are turning this into a story with crowbars and what-not when for all we know this person might not actually have done anything wrong.

It’s worth remembering here that someone was already arrested and then released, so just because someone is in custody doesn’t make the neighbour gossip valid or him guilty of a crime.
