BTW if you haven't heard of this significant and well-advanced plan for a mass-casualty at the White House and assassination of the US president, ask yourselves why.

The reporting on it exists, as you can see. But the story doesn't fit the right-wing narrative.

So it's is not being spammed to our social media accounts by the right-wing media machine.Hmm

Speculation.

I see MNHQ has deleted the other AW thread. It is about time this one went too IMHO.

Police have made arrest, are “not looking for anyone else” and have asked for no speculation online. https://news.devon-cornwall.police.uk/news-article/5ed1de49-e27d-f111-9d98-6045bdd24049

Thanks, @BarkSideOfTheMoon .

Here's that Devon & Cornwall Police statement in full.

https://news.devon-cornwall.police.uk/news-article/5ed1de49-e27d-f111-9d98-6045bdd24049

STATEMENT | Murder enquiry launched following death of Anne Widdecombe, Dartmoor

Our investigation into the death of 78-year-old Ann Widdecombe has continued to develop over the past 24 hours.

Shortly after 9pm on Saturday 11 July, a 28-year-old white British man was arrested at an address in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, on suspicion of the murder of Miss Widdecombe.

We were supported by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing North East and South Yorkshire Police who carried out the arrest on behalf of Devon & Cornwall Police.

Miss Widdecombe’s family have been informed of the update and continue to be supported by specialist officers. Our thoughts remain with her friends and family at what is a very difficult time.

At this time, there is still no information to suggest that this is a terrorism related incident. And at this point we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the murder. We retain primacy of this investigation and Detectives remain open minded about any potential motive, but at this stage there is nothing to suggest that it was politically motivated.

A cordon is still in place as officers continue enquiries at the scene, and we anticipate this will be the case for the next few days. The local community can also expect to see a heightened police presence in the coming weeks to provide reassurance – however I wish to reassure you that we do not have any information to suggest there is any wider threat to the public.

We are grateful to our colleagues in South Yorkshire and they will continue to support us as our investigation continues.

Over the past few days, we have received in excess of 120 reports of information into our Major Incident Public Portal. We thank those who have reported their information to us and ask anyone who has not yet submitted relevant information to us, to do so as a priority.

We are aware of online and public speculation, particularly with regard to motive – again I urge people not to share or engage with speculation. It is unhelpful and distressing to Miss Widdecombe’s friends and family and potentially harmful to our investigation.

We understand that there is a huge appetite for information – but progressing and protecting the integrity of our investigation is paramount. We recognise that there is still some way to go in this case and the release of any information will continue to be a decision made on an operational basis.

I would like to thank local communities, the wider public and the media for their ongoing support and patience, and would ask them to continue to support us in the next stage of our investigation.

Any relevant information, images or footage can be reported via the Major Incident Public Portal. Please follow the link to the public portal or scan the QR code.

Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers.

I doubt it would have been intentional if it was just a burglary.

More likely that she startled him and he panicked.

That’s exactly what I don’t think it was.

Less than 1 in 10,000 burglaries result in the murder of someone in the household.

They’re startled, they turn and run.

She was working all day and so whoever it was probably expecting her to be out.

But she generally worked from home. Like lots of people do these days. Isn’t it more likely that whomever did it was expecting her to be in?

Please stop speculating about this awful killing. Show some respect.

There is also the Trump factor in that. As in, do we believe anything that comes from Trumps DOJ ?

But yes, even Trump is not broadcasting it, so it is being kept very quiet. Although the information is out there.

I don't understand why mnhq are allowing it.

Speculation.

Everything on here is speculation.

But we do know that she was working in the morning and afternoon, which is how the alarm was raised and the police know the time of death.

If it was premeditated murder then they would have to research when she was going to be home etc and so it seems odd to do it on a day that she’s so busy and expected to be on live TV a couple hours later.

So I don’t think it was premeditated murder.

puyr · Today 13:41

doubt this is a burglary gone wrong. It feels deliberate and targeted, like the Jo Cox murder.

I was more pointing out why Farage is talking shite and his motivation for talking shite. But I suppose it was speculation so I won't do it again, especially given what the police have just said.

We don’t know if the suspect was from Yorkshire. Just that he was arrested there.

There is a direct train from Newton Abbot (12 minutes from her house) to Sheffield at 1pm on a Wednesday. It’s totally possible that, given nobody found her for 24 hours, the suspect jumped on a train and fled. Newton Abbot station is tiny and the station staff there don’t really care as long as you have a ticket.

It’s more like 25 minute drive from Haytor to Newton Abbot or a 3 hr walk…

And the police have said not to speculate out of respect for Ann Widdicombe's friends and family as it's deeply upsetting. And yet still you persist.

NeverLookInTheMirror · Today 14:02

At the end of the day the police have said there is currently nothing to suggest that this was political.

They’ve arrested someone and have said they’re not looking for anyone else.

For them to make those statements they clearly have a lot more than they’re making public right now. Especially the fact they’re not looking for anyone else.

It’s literally a thread about her death.

If you’re uncomfortable with it then don’t read it.

Myself and others have been asked not to speak to the media but we haven’t been asked to not speculate online.

The police have specifically stated no online speculation as it's detrimental to ongoing investigation and is deeply upsetting for family and friends of Ann Widdicombe. Is that hard for you to comprehend?

That makes no sense, the only way that could make sense is if the person who killed her had details of her schedule. Anyone else all they had to know what she was home.

Ok I didn’t see that, it would be very easy for someone else not to. If it’s the guy who’s been arrested he’s hardly the smartest tool in the box.

PeachOctopus · Today 15:33

EasternStandard · Today 12:42

I just read an article on her last text messages. She was clearly working well at 78. I’m glad she had people around her who cared and immediately checked up on her.

But it’s really sad, what an awful thing to happen.

It has been stated that she had curvature of the spine, as many women do in old age.
